- 0:00Luke chapter 15 Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were
- 0:04coming near to listen to him. Both the Pharisees and the
- 0:07scribes began to grumble, saying, This man receives
- 0:09sinners and eats with them. So he told them this parable,
- 0:12saying, What man among you, if he has 100 sheep and has lost
- 0:16one of them, does not leave the 99 in the open pasture and go
- 0:19after the one which is lost, until he finds it?
- 0:22When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
- 0:25When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his
- 0:28neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have
- 0:30found my sheep which was lost. I tell you that in the same way
- 0:34there will be more joy in heaven over 1 Sinner who repents than
- 0:38over 99 righteous persons who need no repentance.
- 0:41Or what woman, if she has 10 silver coins and loses one coin,
- 0:45does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully
- 0:48until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls
- 0:51together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with
- 0:54me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.
- 0:57In the same way I tell you there is joy in the presence of the
- 1:00angels of God. Over 1 Sinner who repents.
- 1:03And he said, a man had two sons. The younger of them said to his
- 1:07father, Father, give me the share of the estate that falls
- 1:09to me. So he divided his wealth between
- 1:12them. And not many days later the
- 1:14younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey
- 1:16into a distant country, and there he squandered his estate
- 1:20with loose living. Now when he had spent
- 1:22everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he
- 1:25began to be impoverished. So he went and hired himself out
- 1:28to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into
- 1:31his fields to feed swine. And he would have gladly filled
- 1:34his stomach with the pods that the swine were eating, and no
- 1:37one was giving anything to him. But when he came to his senses,
- 1:40he said, How many of my father's hired men have more than enough
- 1:44bread? But I am dying here with hunger.
- 1:46I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him,
- 1:49Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight I'm no
- 1:52longer worthy to be called your son.
- 1:55Make me as one of your hired men.
- 1:57So he got up and came to his father, But while he was still a
- 2:00long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and
- 2:04ran and embraced him and kissed him.
- 2:06And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven,
- 2:08and in your sight I'm no longer worthy to be called your son.
- 2:12But the father said to his slaves, quickly bring out the
- 2:15best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and
- 2:18sandals on his feet, and bring the fattened calf, Kill it and
- 2:21let us eat and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead
- 2:25and has come to life again. He was lost and has been found.
- 2:28And they began to celebrate. Now his older son was in the
- 2:32field, and when he came and approached the house, he heard
- 2:34music and dancing, and he summoned one of the servants and
- 2:37began inquiring what these things could be.
- 2:40And he said to him, Your brother has come, and your father has
- 2:43killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back
- 2:45safe and sound. But he became angry and was not
- 2:48willing to go in. And his father came out and
- 2:51began pleading with him. But he answered and said to his
- 2:53father, Look, for so many years I have been serving you, and I
- 2:57have never neglected a command of yours, and yet you have never
- 3:00given me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends.
- 3:04When this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with
- 3:07prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.
- 3:11And he said to him, Son, you have always been with me, and
- 3:14all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and
- 3:17rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to
- 3:20live, and was lost and has been found.
