Latest / The Lila Rose Show / E4: Social Media Censorship
Transcript
- 0:00Hello everyone, welcome to the Lila Rose Show.
- 0:04I'm Lila Rose. And in this episode today we are
- 0:07going to be talking about something that's really current.
- 0:10It's something that's happening, just happening this week, but
- 0:13it's also something that's been happening for a long time.
- 0:15And that is big tech company suppression or censorship of
- 0:21information that they don't like because of their ideology or
- 0:24their political persuasion. And so they ultimately try to
- 0:28silence it or to suppress it amongst the users on their
- 0:32platform. So I'm going to be sharing about
- 0:35Pinterest, which some of you guys may already know about and
- 0:39what live actions been facing there, what I've been facing
- 0:41there. And then just walk through some
- 0:43of the history with not just Pinterest, but some other big
- 0:46tech companies and some of the suppression that we've seen and
- 0:48that is out there. And then what we can do about
- 0:51it. Because I think a lot of the
- 0:52times there, a lot of the time there is a sense that we, those
- 0:57that possess conservative, more conservative values or maybe
- 1:01more libertarian values, those that are Christians or those
- 1:04that are Catholics that are viewpoints, we're pro-life.
- 1:08Our viewpoints are in the Super minority and we are extremely
- 1:11radical. And then there's everybody else.
- 1:14But that's actually not the case.
- 1:15So let's start with Pinterest. So I don't know if any of you
- 1:19guys are pinners, honestly. I tried to open a Pinterest
- 1:22account a few years ago and I got more interested in doing it
- 1:26when my then boyfriend and I were talking about getting
- 1:29married. So I was like, oh, maybe I
- 1:30should think about my future wedding.
- 1:32I actually wasn't one of those girls who had their whole
- 1:34wedding planned out. I didn't have anything planned
- 1:37out. And so I thought maybe I should
- 1:39start thinking about it. And so I wanted to try to use
- 1:42Pinterest because I'd heard all these great things about it.
- 1:44And when I tried to open an account, I was immediately
- 1:46suspended. So this was a, this was probably
- 1:49three years ago now, maybe 2 1/2 years ago.
- 1:51And so I kept trying to see what was wrong, trying to like appeal
- 1:55it or find out how to make an account on Pinterest personally,
- 1:58privately, and I was never able to use it.
- 2:03I mean, I actually had an account before that that I had
- 2:05used like a year or two prior for something.
- 2:07But when I tried to use it again, ultimately it got
- 2:10suspended. So that was kind of interesting
- 2:13to me, but I thought it was, maybe it's like a glitch in the
- 2:15matrix. There was just some issue.
- 2:17And so I didn't think too much of it and I just didn't use
- 2:19Pinterest for any. I have my wedding planning.
- 2:22My husband and I just got married last fall.
- 2:25Nor did I use it for anything else.
- 2:26I just didn't use it. But Live Action has been using
- 2:28Pinterest over the years. But we've always noticed that
- 2:31for some reason it's been really hard to get our content out on
- 2:36the platform, which is really surprising for us because our
- 2:38content is really popular. Our pro-life content is really
- 2:41popular on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and other places.
- 2:45So we actually just found out recently why that is.
- 2:49So we found out, and some of you might know already, that
- 2:53Pinterest has actually been blocking live action content.
- 2:59So we've had an account on the platform, but it's been blocking
- 3:02live actions pro-life content from being posted from our
- 3:06website, liveaction.org. And we create graphics and
- 3:09sometimes memes. And we have different web pages
- 3:12that could have been pinned that talk about the risks of
- 3:15abortion, fetal development development, the arguments
- 3:18against abortion. I mean, all kinds of great
- 3:20information. And we found out that Pinterest
- 3:23had been blocking any pins or any posts on the website, on
- 3:28pinterestfromtheliveaction.org website.
- 3:31And this is, we found this out through a whistleblower, an
- 3:34insider that was actually an employee at Pinterest who came
- 3:37out with documentation of this, this this blocking of live
- 3:41action and some other serious issues at Pinterest.
- 3:45And he shared it with Project there, a task which is run by
- 3:47James O'Keefe. And we were alerted to this.
- 3:50So we found out from this whistleblower that this very
- 3:54brave employee at Pinterest, which is, you know,
- 3:57headquartered in San Francisco, it's one of, it has 300 million
- 4:00users. It's not as big as Facebook or
- 4:03YouTube or I think it's maybe on par with Twitter, but its user
- 4:07base is not as maybe active in in ways as Twitter.
- 4:11I mean not as active at least in the political space.
- 4:14It's a lot of pinning of inspirational quotes, products,
- 4:19decor, but also messages. And these messages include
- 4:22things about abortion or can include things about pro-life or
- 4:26other political or cultural issues.
- 4:29So anyways, the whistleblower told us that actually live
- 4:33action had been placed on a porn block list by an employee.
- 4:38And it was, you know, a high-ranking employee who had
- 4:41the power to do that. And that when another employee
- 4:44said, hey, does live action, is this correct?
- 4:46But we shouldn't but also said that they shouldn't change it.
- 4:50And so we remain on the porn block list.
- 4:51So we saw from documentations, internal documentations from
- 4:54Slack used by Pinterest, that this was done, that live action
- 4:58was put on the porn block list so that we could not pin any
- 5:02content from liveaction.org to to Pinterest and neither could
- 5:05anybody else. And we would get sometimes
- 5:08complaints about this from emails from people that follow
- 5:11us, but we weren't sure. You know, we're actually really
- 5:14conservative at live action about how we approach censorship
- 5:17issues. So we don't jump to a conclusion
- 5:20anytime we reach to reach a issue with a platform like a
- 5:23something that seems off. You know, I think sometimes
- 5:25there's a tendency because there is real suppression that you
- 5:28think anytime there's a glitch or anytime that, you know, an
- 5:31algorithm changes and your contents not getting as much
- 5:33view or traction and maybe you're being suppressed or
- 5:36you're being discriminated against.
- 5:38Well, live action takes a really conservative view.
- 5:39And so we actually really, unless there's more evidence
- 5:43that we're actually being banned or suppressed, like there's
- 5:45clear cut evidence of it, then we don't go around complaining
- 5:49about it. You know, we're very
- 5:50conservative about when we report on what is suppression
- 5:54and what isn't of live action content.
- 5:56So we weren't making a big hullabaloo, you know,
- 5:59complaining about Pinterest blocking live actions website
- 6:03because it was hard to know exactly what was happening
- 6:06because we had didn't have evidence on the back end.
- 6:08So now we do. And the end this very brave
- 6:11insider revealed that he also revealed some other really
- 6:13troubling things. He revealed that not only was
- 6:16live action placed in the porn block list, but that but
- 6:19Pinterest was also. Employees at Pinterest had also
- 6:22labeled Ben Shapiro a white supremacist in the on the back
- 6:26end on Pinterest, that they had made it so that if you tried to
- 6:30type the word Christian or Bible, typically there's
- 6:34autofill for very popular Pinterest searches.
- 6:37So if you type in Muslim or Jewish, it autofills for
- 6:40holidays or for other things related to those religious
- 6:45traditions. But when you type in Christian,
- 6:47there's no, you know, auto fill and instead it actually auto
- 6:50fills to something that is kind of nonsensical Christian
- 6:53inspiration as one word instead of allowing it to auto fill for
- 6:56the different kinds of maybe Christian content that you could
- 6:58find on Pinterest. And similarly, when you type in
- 7:01Bible verses, instead of auto filling for Bible verses, it
- 7:04auto fills for Bible verse SUS. So it misspells the word verses
- 7:09to be nonsensical. So it's VERSUS like I'm versus
- 7:14you. I'm against you.
- 7:15You know, me versus you as opposed to Bible verses, which
- 7:19is VERSES. Anyways, the point being that it
- 7:23was basically suppressing searches for Christian content
- 7:27and it was not doing that for other religions.
- 7:29So this Pinterest insider put out that information that came
- 7:33out yesterday, Tuesday, Tuesday, January or June 11th, 2019 for
- 7:39those who are listening to this podcast later.
- 7:41And all that to say, there was quite the uproar.
- 7:45So Project Veritas had reached out to Pinterest the day before
- 7:48asking them for comment before they made the whistleblowers
- 7:51report public. We found out basically midnight
- 7:55on Monday, June 10th of that we were removed from the porn block
- 7:58list. The insider let us know, showed
- 8:00us a screenshot and actually we all of a sudden were able to
- 8:03post pro-life content to from our website to Pinterest.
- 8:06So we were like, wow, it looks like Pinterest is kind of
- 8:09covering their tracks because this reports about to be made
- 8:12public and we're off the porn block list.
- 8:14Well, guess what? Several hours later, right
- 8:16before the report became public live action, this account was
- 8:19totally completely permanently suspended.
- 8:24And we get this e-mail from Pinterest, which I mean, I, I
- 8:27kind of want to share, share some of it because I mean,
- 8:30we've, we've reported this at Live Action News.
- 8:32So you can actually see this on our website, liveaction.org or
- 8:36Live Action News if you would like to.
- 8:38But it was almost kind of comical because it was so
- 8:42ridiculous. And I'm just going to share with
- 8:44you some of what this e-mail said.
- 8:46So it says, hello, your account was permanently suspended
- 8:49because its contents were against our policies on
- 8:51misinformation. It in your, your content
- 8:54includes medical misinformation and conspiracies.
- 8:58And it says our principles maintain a safe, useful and
- 9:01positive experience for users. We don't allow advice on
- 9:04Pinterest that has immediate and detrimental effects on a
- 9:08Pinner's health or public safety.
- 9:11So basically saying that live action is spreading
- 9:13misinformation without telling us any of what that supposedly
- 9:16is. And we absolutely don't.
- 9:18Everything we do, especially when it comes to the abortion
- 9:21procedure, we work with a group of doctors, OBGY, NS, former
- 9:25abortionists to document what actually an abortion procedure
- 9:28does. It's risks, what happens during
- 9:30the procedure. So that is very clear.
- 9:32There's no other complaints from any kind of legitimate critical
- 9:35source about it. It's just the facts about
- 9:38abortion. That's our job.
- 9:39So for Pinterest to say this is really concerning and also
- 9:42really inaccurate of them. But then for them to say that
- 9:46we, our content has, could have immediate and detrimental
- 9:50effects on Pinners health or public safety is just, I mean,
- 9:54it's, it would be laughable if it wasn't also heartbreaking.
- 9:57I mean, the reality is we're defending life.
- 9:59We're fighting to protect, to share the facts about life in
- 10:02the womb, to provide empowering positive messages to women, to
- 10:05promote other options like adoption.
- 10:07And here they are saying that that is going to hurt health and
- 10:11public safety of basically the Pinterest community, which is
- 10:14ridiculous. If anybody's hurting the health
- 10:16or public safety of others, it is the abortion industry, which,
- 10:19by the way, is very active on Twitter, in fact, are very
- 10:24active on Pinterest. I'm sorry.
- 10:25In fact, Pinterest allows abortion clinics to post their
- 10:30ads for abortion on Pinterest freely.
- 10:33And Planned Parenthood has dozens of accounts on Pinterest.
- 10:37And some of these abortion clinics are actually posting ads
- 10:40on Pinterest for mail order abortion.
- 10:42So you can order the chemical abortion pill online, which is
- 10:46very dangerous. There's multiple reasons for
- 10:48that. I mean, if you have an ectopic
- 10:49pregnancy, which means your baby is not in the womb, the baby's
- 10:53in the fallopian tube and you take are you 46, then you could
- 10:57still be in a life threatening situation even if you take the
- 10:59abortion pill because you can't. When you when the part of the
- 11:02pill that induces labor happens, you can't just have that.
- 11:06That baby can't just come out of you the way that it would if the
- 11:10baby was in your uterus where it belongs instead of the fallopian
- 11:13tube. So anyways, I digress, but the
- 11:15point is it's ridiculous. So after that happened, to make
- 11:19this brief, there is a fair amount of reporting on this
- 11:23yesterday, which is good. There needs to be a lot more of
- 11:25it. And then Twitter respond,
- 11:28Pinterest, I keep mixing them up.
- 11:29I'm going to get to Twitter in a second.
- 11:30And then Pinterest responds again.
- 11:33And Pinterest says through a spokesperson, another reason
- 11:38that live action was supposedly banned.
- 11:40So they say that live action was actioned for misinformation
- 11:45related to conspiracies and anti vaccination advice and not porn.
- 11:51Sometimes our internal tools have legacy names for the
- 11:54technology that enforces our policies.
- 11:56This technology was named years ago to combat porn, but it's
- 11:59since expanded to a variety of content, blah blah blah.
- 12:02OK, so it's saying yeah, yeah, you're right, we shouldn't have
- 12:05blocked them because of porn. I mean, obviously live actions
- 12:08on a porn group. We're a pro-life organization,
- 12:10but then they're also saying that we are being banned for
- 12:13misinformation around anti vaccination advice, which we do
- 12:19not take a position on vaccines. I understand the debate to some
- 12:25degree. You know, I, I'm Privy to it a
- 12:27little bit on both sides when it comes to vaccines.
- 12:29But live action absolutely is not giving medical advice on
- 12:31vaccines nor taking a position on vaccines.
- 12:34The only times that we've ever reported on vaccines is when it
- 12:37has to do what is when it what it has had to do with aborted
- 12:41baby cell lines that some vaccines are made from to report
- 12:47on that for people to be aware of because they deserve to know
- 12:49that. But that's it.
- 12:51So this is just goes from more crazy to crazy to even more
- 12:57crazy from Pinterest. It goes from where porn to where
- 13:01misinformation that's hurting the community to we are anti
- 13:04vaxxers. These are the reasons that
- 13:06Pinterest is claiming that we are banned.
- 13:08So later in the day yesterday, the brave insider from Pinterest
- 13:13was fired. He was escorted from the
- 13:14building. He's going to come be coming out
- 13:16soon with more of his story. This guy is so brave.
- 13:19And by the way, if anybody listening, you work in big tech
- 13:21companies or you know somebody who does and you have, you have
- 13:27values and believes convictions, you, you have you see certain
- 13:30realities that maybe those on the far left refuse to see.
- 13:34I just encourage you that if you do see stuff that is censorship
- 13:38and suppression and deception and lies coming from these
- 13:41companies to, to look at this, this example of this
- 13:46whistleblower and hopefully take courage from him because he just
- 13:51shows the amount of impact you can make by sharing your story
- 13:56and sharing what you know to be true, even though it also brings
- 13:59the heat. So I'll be talking more about
- 14:01the heat in a minute, but before I get to that, I do want to
- 14:04mention Twitter. I do want to mention the fact
- 14:06that both Twitter and YouTube and Facebook to some degree, but
- 14:09mostly Twitter and YouTube, there have been censorship and
- 14:11suppression issues with them, other things that live action
- 14:14has faced. So for Twitter, you guys may be
- 14:16aware. So I'm pretty active on Twitter.
- 14:18Live action is as well, but we've been banned for over 3-4
- 14:22years now. I think it's been 4 years.
- 14:25We've been completely banned from all advertising.
- 14:27So we're not allowed to promote any of our tweets to people
- 14:30beyond our immediate followers or even to our our followers.
- 14:33And why is this problematic? Well, we were banned because we
- 14:37were told by Twitter that we after a long time, we kept
- 14:40asking why is our account not able to run ads?
- 14:42And it took us I think over a year to finally get an answer
- 14:45from Twitter. We did not go public with it.
- 14:48We waited. We waited.
- 14:49We tried to work with them, and then finally they said it was
- 14:51because we had violated their hate and sensitive topics
- 14:55policy. Yeah, we're very hateful at live
- 14:57action. No, we love everyone.
- 14:59We love everyone. We want everyone to have the
- 15:00right to live. We believe in that passionately.
- 15:03All that to say then they specifically said that the only
- 15:06way that we could run ads on Twitter, whether it's my
- 15:10account, Lila Grace Rose or live actions account, would be if we
- 15:14remove all tweets that included ultrasound images.
- 15:19Yep, ultrasound images. Those violate the hate and
- 15:21sensitive topics policy at Twitter.
- 15:24Any tweets that criticize Planned Parenthood, Yep, not
- 15:27allowed to criticize Planned Parenthood and advertise on
- 15:29Twitter. Any tweets that talk about
- 15:31abortion, like you can't just talk about abortion period, or
- 15:35explain what it is. Nope, can't do that.
- 15:38And they gave us this, gave us this list of what we were not
- 15:41allowed to talk about on Twitter if we wanted to advertise.
- 15:43And this isn't just for the ads themselves.
- 15:45This is for any tweets we do whatsoever from our accounts.
- 15:49And then Twitter said that we would have to delete any content
- 15:54related to criticism of Planned Parenthood.
- 15:56Ultrasound images, pro-life quotes, abortion facts.
- 16:00We'd have to also delete that from our websites in order for
- 16:04us to promote tweets on Twitter. So this was such an egregious
- 16:10response from Twitter, especially because Planned
- 16:13Parenthood has spent and continues to spend hundreds of
- 16:17thousands of dollars to promote their tweets on Twitter.
- 16:20Planned Parenthood, the biggest abortion chain and other groups
- 16:23like repro action, a very pro abortion militant group is also
- 16:27running ads on Twitter and their ads that they're actually paying
- 16:31Twitter to run are telling are include petitions demanding that
- 16:36groups like ours pro-life groups are banned from Twitter.
- 16:41So the irony here is so crazy, but the reality is Twitter is a
- 16:46pro abortion platform. And this is despite the fact
- 16:48that Jack Dorsey, their their, their, their CEO testified
- 16:53before Congress about censorship, claiming claimed
- 16:56that he said yes, Most of our staff at Twitter, it's
- 16:59headquartered in San Francisco, most of our staff at Twitter is,
- 17:02you know, on the left or liberal, he said.
- 17:05But we do not discriminate based on political viewpoint.
- 17:09We on our ideological viewpoint, he said.
- 17:11We do not discriminate, but the discrimination, at least when it
- 17:15comes to pro-life content, is crystal clear.
- 17:19So just to this morning, Wednesday, June 12th, Twitter
- 17:23actually suspended parts of Project Veritas's Twitter
- 17:28account for tweeting the insider information of the Pinterest
- 17:33whistleblower who was exposing Pinterest blocking of pro-life
- 17:38content. So I mean, Twitter is so clearly
- 17:41motivated ideologically for abortion.
- 17:44They are left on the hard left. They don't like freedom of
- 17:48speech. I think they're upset that so
- 17:49many people that oppose their ideologies are on their platform
- 17:54to begin with. YouTube lately has been
- 17:57demonetizing, which means that for YouTube users who build an
- 18:02audience and a following, it's the way that they can help make
- 18:04money is to run ads on their videos.
- 18:07Well recently they demonetized Steven Crowders YouTube channel
- 18:11completely and he's this very popular conservative kind of
- 18:14like bro type figure who is very kind of rough and comedic in
- 18:20what he says. I don't agree with everything he
- 18:22says, but I think he says some smart things.
- 18:25But he was basically making fun of journalists, which
- 18:28journalists do to each other all day long.
- 18:31And they've not just make fun of each other.
- 18:33They say some really horrible snarky things.
- 18:35I've received them on Twitter from blue check mark accounts,
- 18:38meaning these are like legit accounts at Twitter honors with
- 18:41a blue check mark of public figures or journalists or other
- 18:44people working in media. And anyways, in retaliation,
- 18:49Steven Crowder for him basically insulting a journalist on his
- 18:53YouTube channel and the journalist complained and went
- 18:56on this outrage against Steven Crowder.
- 19:01He got completely demonetized. And I think he has, I want to
- 19:04say 1,000,000 or over 1,000,000 YouTube subscribers.
- 19:07So this was a big deal. And then YouTube rolled out
- 19:10their hate, their hate speech policy, which basically includes
- 19:17things that say you can't even, you know, you can't say your
- 19:19religion is better than another religion.
- 19:21I mean, all of these, all of these standards for what is
- 19:24supposedly hate speech and that if you don't abide by these
- 19:29standards at YouTube, then your account could be compromised.
- 19:32You can't necessarily. Your account might be
- 19:34demonetized or you can't make money on the platform.
- 19:36So really concerning, but the thing I wanted to say about
- 19:39YouTube with relation to live action is we've had our abortion
- 19:43procedure videos on YouTube for now, I think it's been 4 years.
- 19:47And these were created with doctors, with OBGYN's.
- 19:50It's narrated by a former abortionist doctor, Anthony
- 19:53Lovettino. So these are videos of the
- 19:55medical animations of the abortion procedures that are
- 19:57most prevalent. They're not gory, but they're
- 19:59medical animations. And we've had them up on YouTube
- 20:03and on Facebook. They've received these four
- 20:05videos have received over I think 100.
- 20:08Million views now it is over. Well over 100 million views now
- 20:12O it's just incredible to see the response.
- 20:14I mean mostly positive including from RO choice people saying wow
- 20:17thanks for the information. I didn't know this made me
- 20:19rethink my opinion, but these videos were so well watched, so,
- 20:25so hot. He had so many views and so many
- 20:27comments that they were ranked high on the YouTube search.
- 20:30So when you type in on YouTube abortion or abortion procedure,
- 20:33our videos would come up. At least one of them would come
- 20:35up. Well, a journalist over at Slate
- 20:39complained about this in an article last December, saying
- 20:43that she was upset that we were spreading misinformation.
- 20:46That was her claim, which again, this misinformation word,
- 20:49there's no misinformation there. Information has become the term
- 20:54that people on the far left use when they hear something or see
- 20:59something that they don't agree with or they don't like.
- 21:02So they just call it misinformation to try to shut it
- 21:04down and to make the person look less credible.
- 21:07It is nothing to do with reality.
- 21:09There is no backing to it. So this reporter Glazier her
- 21:12name was wrote in us in a Slate article that YouTube was
- 21:16allowing, you know, our live actions content and higher in
- 21:19the search search results as well.
- 21:21Ben Shapiro also said it about Ben Shapiro saying that some of
- 21:25his pro-life speeches were included high in the search
- 21:27results because if they had millions of views.
- 21:30And so guess what happened within, I think it was a few
- 21:32days, YouTube changed the search results and all the search
- 21:36results that they included were pro abortion content, videos
- 21:40that we're saying I had an abortion and it was great or
- 21:43videos that made abortion look try attempted to make abortion
- 21:47look positive anyways. And then the reporter Glazier
- 21:50said YouTube changed the results after I asked and she said now
- 21:55anti abortion content meant to enrage or provoke viewers is no
- 21:59longer purely dominating the results.
- 22:02So anyways, all that to say, YouTube has buried live action
- 22:05videos in the search results on purpose because a leftist
- 22:10reporter said that she wanted it so that that's how serious this
- 22:14is. That's how serious this has
- 22:15become. Anyways, I say all this to say,
- 22:18you know what? What is the bigger picture here?
- 22:19The bigger picture here has very much to do with our response and
- 22:24the with the reality that we are on Instagram, we are on
- 22:27Facebook, we are on YouTube, some of us are on Twitter.
- 22:29Many of you listening to this right now are on these social
- 22:32media platforms at least once a day, if not maybe too much time
- 22:35during the day. We all, you know, sometimes it's
- 22:37that that old issue of too much social media.
- 22:41It's just it's taken up all of our time.
- 22:43It's eating our time. But what we see on social media
- 22:48is often not reflective of reality.
- 22:50These companies, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest,
- 22:56their leadership is far left. Their executives are far left.
- 23:01Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg donated $1 million publicly.
- 23:05She's the COO of Facebook. This was just a couple years
- 23:09ago. Very publicly donated $1 million
- 23:12to the biggest abortion chain to Planned Parenthood.
- 23:14They are far left and many of them pro abortion ideologues.
- 23:19So the so for us to think that what we see when we're using
- 23:22these platforms is necessarily what actually is out there, the
- 23:26beliefs of people, the posts of people, we need to take it all
- 23:30with a big grain of salt. What we're consuming from the
- 23:33media, and it's not just this doesn't just go for social
- 23:35media, this goes for reporters, this goes for Slate and BuzzFeed
- 23:40and Washington Post and New York Times.
- 23:42This goes for all of them. What we are consuming isn't real
- 23:46life and we have to be really critical when reviewing this
- 23:50stuff. We have to be really critical
- 23:52about what's showing up in our feed and why.
- 23:54Now maybe, you know, we're just following really positive
- 23:57accounts and that's all we see and that's great.
- 24:00But we just have to be very discerning because the reality
- 24:03is there is an agenda out there and it's becoming more and more
- 24:07clear. There is an agenda out there to
- 24:09silence disagreement, to silence diversity of views, and
- 24:14especially to target conservative pro-life, more
- 24:18Christian, more libertarian ideals and values.
- 24:23And some of these are could even be considered classically
- 24:25liberal ideals and values that have to do with free speech.
- 24:28This has become in many ways the new book, the new book burning.
- 24:33Call things you disagree with misinformation.
- 24:36Label it as such and then try to ban it forever from the places
- 24:41that people go on the Internet. There was a article recently
- 24:46from the New York Times. I don't know if any of you guys
- 24:48saw this, but it was a big story and they came out and they
- 24:52basically said the name of the article was The Making of a
- 24:56YouTube Radical. And it said that there was.
- 25:00It says Caleb Kane was a college dropout.
- 25:02Looking for direction, he turned to YouTube and there's a collage
- 25:06on the back of this article and this was like front page
- 25:09newyorktimes.com. And the collage includes
- 25:12pictures of Dave Rubin, who is he considers himself a classical
- 25:16liberal. This guy isn't even doesn't even
- 25:18say he's a conservative. It includes and I've been on his
- 25:21show. He's a very thoughtful,
- 25:23reasonable person. This includes Ben Shapiro, it
- 25:26includes Jordan Peterson, who is fantastic.
- 25:30I don't know anything he said that you can prove to be false.
- 25:32I mean, he's extremely thoughtful, a psychiatrist from
- 25:34Canada. So it includes these, these
- 25:38folks who are not alt right, who are not far, even far right.
- 25:42I mean, these are people that are very thoughtful people that
- 25:46we all have a lot to learn from. And then the articles next sub
- 25:50header was soon Caleb Kane was pulled into a far right universe
- 25:55watching thousands of videos filled with conspiracy theories,
- 25:58misogyny, and racism. Let me just flag something for
- 26:02you. When you hear somebody on the
- 26:04left accusing somebody like Ben Shapiro or Jordan Peterson or
- 26:09live action or whatever, like whether it's Pinterest calling
- 26:11live action conspiracy theorists or it's The New York Times
- 26:15insinuating that someone like Dave Rubin could be a conspiracy
- 26:18theorist and always think twice, that is a dead giveaway that
- 26:23they are probably lying to try to attempt to convince people
- 26:27not to pay attention to what the person's actually saying.
- 26:30Or if they accuse you of misogyny or racism or
- 26:34misinformation, also think twice Now, I think it's really
- 26:38important that we take racism extremely seriously, that we
- 26:42take misogyny extremely seriously.
- 26:43These are real. That's the thing.
- 26:45They're using real issues as fig leaves to attack conservatives,
- 26:50to attack people that are respectful, that they disagree
- 26:54with. And This is why it's so shameful
- 26:56what The New York Times did. And you know, then it goes on to
- 26:59talk about this kid who's watching YouTube videos, and it
- 27:03basically conflates all these people on YouTube as the same,
- 27:08whether it's Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro or it's somebody
- 27:11like Alex Jones who has shared conspiracy theories.
- 27:14I don't think just because you share a conspiracy theory
- 27:17theory, by the way, you should be banned.
- 27:18I think that the reality is let people be discerning.
- 27:22Let them be thoughtful, let them take the time to do their
- 27:24research. I've err on the side of less
- 27:26bans, not more. But the reality is conflating
- 27:29people like Ben Shapiro with a white supremacist, whoever that
- 27:33might be, is insanity. Ben Shapiro's Jewish and his
- 27:36community has been viciously attacked by white supremacists,
- 27:39and he is very vocal against it, as are as is really anyone else
- 27:44in the conservative movement. So this is something that just
- 27:47shows the New York Times. I mean, they put us on the front
- 27:49page. They're trying to paint
- 27:52everybody with a broad brush who opposes leftist ideology
- 27:56basically as white supremacists, as hanging out with misogynists
- 28:01and racists and conspiracy theorists.
- 28:03This is what they try to do. So people who oppose your
- 28:07viewpoint, whether you're pro-life, whether you're
- 28:10conservative, whether you're libertarian, whatever you are,
- 28:14those in high places of power, whether you're a New York Times
- 28:17editor, you're a big tech boss over at Facebook or Pinterest or
- 28:22Twitter, those people who oppose your viewpoint are going to try
- 28:27to make you look extreme, to make you look radical, to make
- 28:31you look fringe. And they're going to try to
- 28:32isolate you and they're going to use all the tricks they have in
- 28:35their toolbox to do that. And that's why these platforms,
- 28:38we have to take them very carefully.
- 28:41We have to approach them with with a lot of distrust.
- 28:44We have to consume media content really critically.
- 28:48So I'm going to leave you with just a few things here on what I
- 28:51think our response should be. As I was saying, number one, it
- 28:54could be very difficult, I understand to do this.
- 28:56But whenever we read articles, whenever we look at what shows
- 29:00up on our newsfeed, you know, why does Facebook choose to put
- 29:02certain things on our newsfeed versus others?
- 29:05And why do you know groups like Now This News or Miley Cyrus's
- 29:10account when she posts a pro abortion cake that she's
- 29:13licking? Why do all the pro-life comments
- 29:15get deleted? So it looks like there's just
- 29:17pro-choice people in the world. I mean, I, I posted a pro-life
- 29:21comment on Miley Cyrus's Instagram account in response to
- 29:25her picture where she encouraged people to support Planned
- 29:28Parenthood. And she's licking a cake that
- 29:30says abortion is healthcare. And I commented saying Miley,
- 29:34Miley abortions, not healthcare. You know, you're pro animal.
- 29:37Why can't you be pro human basically?
- 29:39And you know, I hope you're only did this because you got paid.
- 29:42I mean, Planned Parenthood has shown out the big bucks right
- 29:44now to Instagram influencers to try to get them to promote
- 29:47abortion. But if we don't consume
- 29:50critically, we might think that just because we don't
- 29:52immediately see pro-life comments on Miley's picture that
- 29:56they don't exist, that pro-life people don't exist.
- 29:59So it's so important they do exist.
- 30:02We exist. Nearly half the country
- 30:04identifies as pro-life. Nearly half the country and most
- 30:08Americans want abortion restrictions.
- 30:10They want at least some abortion bans.
- 30:12So number one, we have to consume critically and realize
- 30:16that what the tech companies are giving us, what the media is
- 30:19giving us are not an accurate picture of what other people
- 30:23actually believe and what our community, our state, our
- 30:26nation, our world actually thinks.
- 30:29So we have to consume critically.
- 30:30And I really encourage you to find a lot of diverse news
- 30:33sources. Like when you're reading the
- 30:34news, don't just get it from social media.
- 30:37Don't definitely don't get it from the New York Times, but go
- 30:39to I mean, check out live Action News, check out life news, check
- 30:43out life site news, check out pro-life blogs.
- 30:45Check out a lot of different news sources, whether it's
- 30:48National Review, check out Christian news, surf sources or
- 30:51other conservative news sources. Yes, you can check out the New
- 30:54York Times, check out Washington Post, but look at a swath of
- 30:57news sources instead of just going to 1 because you will
- 31:01quickly see the discrepancies in how the reporting is done and
- 31:05then you can draw your own conclusions.
- 31:07And I would also say keep in mind that you are not alone.
- 31:11You are not fringe, You are not radical in your beliefs.
- 31:15Actually, many of your beliefs are very mainstream.
- 31:17Many of your positions are very mainstream.
- 31:19But you would never think that or know that in a million years,
- 31:22if all you got information from was now this news, or from Vox
- 31:27Media or from BuzzFeed or from the New York Times, you would
- 31:29think, wow, nobody agrees with me.
- 31:32I'm so out of touch. I'm weird.
- 31:34No, you're not. Most people agree with you when
- 31:35it comes to pro-life. Most people want abortions, some
- 31:39abortions at least to be restricted.
- 31:41The vast majority of Americans and almost half the country
- 31:44identifies as pro-life. And the voting bloc, by the way,
- 31:48that is pro-life that wants to make abortion their number one
- 31:52issue versus the voting bloc that is pro-choice, that wants
- 31:55to make a pro abortion their number one issue in the voting
- 31:58booth. It's actually the pro lifers
- 32:00that beat it out by a few percentage points, meaning more
- 32:03people are so passionately pro-life in this country that
- 32:06they will make it their number one issue versus people who are
- 32:09pro abortion. So we are actually like our, the
- 32:11strength of our passion of our movement is actually stronger
- 32:14than the pro abortion movement. Remember that we might not have,
- 32:19you know, Planned Parenthood's $1.4 billion budget behind us.
- 32:23We might not have best besties and at the New York Times and
- 32:26the Washington Post and at Facebook and Twitter and
- 32:28Pinterest and all these places. But we have the truth and we
- 32:31also have the ear of of a lot of people.
- 32:33A lot of people agree with this. It actually amazes me how many
- 32:37people are still pro-life and and conservative and libertarian
- 32:41and Christian and Catholic people strongly stand for these
- 32:45stands for stands for these truths.
- 32:47Despite the fact that so many on social media that rule these
- 32:51companies and that rule the mainstream media are pro
- 32:54abortion, including a lot of celebrities from Hollywood are
- 32:56pro abortion and against these values.
- 32:59All right, Number 2, so #1 consume critically #2 really
- 33:04important that all of us are brave and that we speak up.
- 33:09I, you know, the worst thing we can do is say stay silent.
- 33:12The worst thing that we can do is feel the heat, feel people
- 33:14attacking you or mocking you or making fun of you or saying
- 33:18you're a fringe or radical or whatever they call you.
- 33:21And so we're silenced. That's the worst thing that we
- 33:24can do. But sometimes it just takes one
- 33:28person to speak up to create a chain reaction of so many others
- 33:32speaking up as well. We have to be that person who's
- 33:35willing to speak, whether it's online respectfully or whether
- 33:40it's just with a friend. It's raising our hand in class
- 33:43when a professor says something crazy and asking a question.
- 33:47It's with our family members, it's with our community members.
- 33:50It's having respectful conversations, you know, trying
- 33:53to remain calm as best we can, but being respectful and
- 33:57speaking up against the, the lies that we hear, the
- 34:00misinformation that we hear against the leftist ideologies
- 34:04that are presented to us as if they're fact without any room
- 34:06for disagreement. So we have to be unafraid.
- 34:09I mean, we might feel afraid, but we have to recognize that,
- 34:13look, when we speak up, we will empower others that might want
- 34:18to speak up next. We will be an example.
- 34:20And other people, they might be silent still, but they'll be
- 34:23secretly, secretly agreeing with us.
- 34:25And we might give them courage down the line to then speak up.
- 34:29The guy from Pinterest, the gentleman that was fired
- 34:32recently, I mean, he's so brave. He is so brave.
- 34:35He stood up against this, his own company.
- 34:37I mean, it's like his livelihood.
- 34:39And he exposed the the crazy bias going on at Pinterest that
- 34:43was secretive behind the scenes. And he was fired for it.
- 34:46So not everybody can do that. Not everybody is in the position
- 34:50that he was in to even expose what he exposed.
- 34:53And, you know, to take that incredible act of courage.
- 34:56But let's look to examples like the whistleblower from Pinterest
- 34:59and, and hopefully get inspiration from that.
- 35:02The reality is, is that we have to be willing to express our
- 35:06beliefs respectfully, honestly, courageously.
- 35:10We have to be willing to build relationships with those close
- 35:13to us. And it will have an effect.
- 35:15It might not be an overnight effect.
- 35:17You know, it might take, it might even take years.
- 35:20I mean, it might take years to persuade someone in our personal
- 35:22life, or maybe we just give them food for thought, but at least
- 35:25we're the person giving them that food for thought that maybe
- 35:28they would otherwise never hear in that way.
- 35:32So it might not be the overnight effect, but it will help.
- 35:34And if we are unwilling to be silenced, and if we are willing
- 35:38to get to know other people, to be friends with them, to be
- 35:40respectful, but to continue to share our views, other people's
- 35:43attitudes and positions will change.
- 35:47And part of that is because they will see us as consistent.
- 35:50They'll see us as respectful, they'll see us as integrity.
- 35:53And it will also happen through our friendships.
- 35:55That's why we have to be people that respect others.
- 35:57We care about others, that we that we love people.
- 36:00And you know, maybe we'll get pushback.
- 36:03We actually will get pushback. But even how we deal with that
- 36:06pushback in our respect and in our kindness, that also will be
- 36:11a sign that we are not these extreme radicals that are full
- 36:14of hate that the left paints us out to be, but that we are
- 36:17actually people that are loving, that actually care about others,
- 36:21and that we view our fellow human beings as made in the
- 36:24image of God. We view them with profound
- 36:26respect because they are also children of God.
- 36:29So when you look at your timeline, when you look at
- 36:32Facebook, Twitter, etcetera, look at it critically.
- 36:36Don't, don't buy the don't buy what they're selling when they
- 36:40hate your beliefs as a Christian or as a pro-life, as extremists.
- 36:43Understand the agenda that is rooted here and that is at work
- 36:48here and don't buy it. Do not buy it because look, we
- 36:54have the truth on our side. We, we are.
- 36:56And we're willing to keep learning.
- 36:57We're willing to keep growing. And the truth is a very powerful
- 37:01thing. You know, there have been entire
- 37:02regimes. I mean, when you look at human
- 37:04history, there have been regimes that have ultimately imprisoned,
- 37:08enslaved, I mean, literally killed millions of people.
- 37:11You look at the last century, the Soviet Union, you look at
- 37:14the gulag, you look at what happened during the Holocaust
- 37:17and the lies that were being told about human dignity and
- 37:20freedom and all of these things that we hold dear.
- 37:22But the truth ultimately did win out because brave people were
- 37:27willing to still stand up and fight back.
- 37:29And the best way we can do that right now is by being critical
- 37:32of what we consume and what we look at and being unafraid to
- 37:35speak, continuing to speak the truth whenever we have the
- 37:39opportunity. Thank you guys so much for
- 37:41listening. I hope this episode was a little
- 37:43bit encouraging. I know it's rough, can be tough
