- 0:12Speaker 2: and then the other one one point six zero four million.
- 0:16Speaker 2: In fiscal year twenty twenty five, fiscal year twenty twenty
- 0:19Speaker 2: four they got buddy hundred thousand, and twenty fiscal year
- 0:23Speaker 2: twenty twenty three, they got nine hundred and four thousand
- 0:25Speaker 2: and fifty nine dollars.
- 0:27Speaker 3: This place, right here, you're listening to the forty seven
- 0:30Speaker 3: Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Good Monday morning.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Nice to have you with us on the forty seven
- 0:35Speaker 4: Morning Update, and we've got one.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Big story for you.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Minnesota's Somali fraud scandal has exploded over the weekend. Cashpittel,
- 0:44Speaker 4: the FBI director, is now threatening the Somali scammers with
- 0:48Speaker 4: not only denaturalization and deportation over the uncovered Minnesota fraud,
- 0:54Speaker 4: but he calls it the tip of a very large iceberg.
- 0:59Speaker 4: What's happening now?
- 1:00Speaker 5: Now?
- 1:00Speaker 1: I break it all down for you.
- 1:02Speaker 4: It's the forty seven Morning Update, and it starts right now.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Story number one.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Minnesota's Somali fraud scandal has exploded, and now the FBI
- 1:12Speaker 4: Director Cash Ptel is confirming that the FBI has surged
- 1:17Speaker 4: personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle the large
- 1:23Speaker 4: scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs, describing the current events
- 1:29Speaker 4: as just a tip of a very large iceberg. The
- 1:33Speaker 4: new claim is hundreds of millions in fake daycares, your
- 1:38Speaker 4: tax dollars going to these centers, all of this being
- 1:42Speaker 4: exposed by a twenty three year old YouTuber who did
- 1:46Speaker 4: the job that no one in the media was willing
- 1:49Speaker 4: to do. Now, the Bureau says that it has identified
- 1:53Speaker 4: and dismantled a two hundred and fifty million dollar fraud
- 1:58Speaker 4: scheme tied to federal food aid programs, leading to seventy
- 2:04Speaker 4: eight indictments and fifty seven convictions. Caspertel also stated that
- 2:10Speaker 4: some convicted fraudsters are being referred for denaturalization and deportation
- 2:17Speaker 4: proceedings where eligible, signaling serious legal consequences beyond prison sentences,
- 2:24Speaker 4: and the broader scope of the fraud is now being exposed.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Federal prosecutors are now estimating the fraud across multiple programs
- 2:33Speaker 4: in Minnesota alone will total into the billions of dollars,
- 2:38Speaker 4: with part of the spotlight falling on social services, childcare assistance,
- 2:44Speaker 4: healthcare billing, and nutrition programs. In other words, if there
- 2:49Speaker 4: was a government program, it was being abused by the fraudsters.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Now the FBI is continuing, they say, an ongoing investigation,
- 2:59Speaker 4: and their expectations for more prosecutions and potential recoveries of
- 3:04Speaker 4: misused taxpayer funds. National figures including Elon Musk and political
- 3:09Speaker 4: leaders such as JD Vance and Representative Tom Emmer have
- 3:14Speaker 4: amplified the incredible undercover video that exposed all of this,
- 3:19Speaker 4: pushing for accountability and broader investigations into alleged misuse of
- 3:24Speaker 4: taxpayer funds. And it may not just be Minnesota where
- 3:27Speaker 4: the corruption is. Now we're saying that others are coming
- 3:31Speaker 4: forward and saying it could be happening in other states. Now,
- 3:35Speaker 4: how did we get to this point? Well, an independent journalist,
- 3:40Speaker 4: a hero by the name of Nick Shirley posted a
- 3:43Speaker 4: forty two minute investigative video on social media showing visits
- 3:49Speaker 4: to multiple licensed childcare centers that allegedly received millions and
- 3:54Speaker 4: millions of dollars in public funding, meaning taxpayer dollars, but
- 3:59Speaker 4: we're empty or inactive, or wouldn't even answer a question
- 4:03Speaker 4: on how he could enroll his son in daycare, including
- 4:07Speaker 4: the Minneapolis Quality Learning Center and one lightly shared scene,
- 4:12Speaker 4: Shirley highlighted that one center received roughly one point nine
- 4:16Speaker 4: million alone in twenty twenty five from the Minnesota Childcare
- 4:20Speaker 4: Assistants program, despite no children or activity being a parent
- 4:25Speaker 4: at the site during daytime visits. Shirley's video claims that
- 4:31Speaker 4: over one hundred and ten million in questionable payments were
- 4:34Speaker 4: documented in a single day of investigating, and that is
- 4:37Speaker 4: where the video went viral, garnering tens of millions of
- 4:42Speaker 4: views and sparking national outrage, particularly among conservatives and political
- 4:48Speaker 4: figures who share this footage saying it's time to clean house,
- 4:53Speaker 4: which brings us to cash PTEL. Now, when something like
- 4:56Speaker 4: this gets exposed, we're learning very quickly that the Trump
- 5:00Speaker 4: administration is willing to do what others were unwilling to
- 5:03Speaker 4: do in the Biden administration and what Democrats are unwilling
- 5:08Speaker 4: to do on their own in Minnesota. Here's more of
- 5:11Speaker 4: how Fox News covered it earlier and.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Welcome back everybody. FAI Director Cash Mattel responding to a
- 5:17Speaker 5: viral video that has raised even more concerns about Minnesota's
- 5:21Speaker 5: massive fraud scandal. The video showing misspelled signs, locked doors,
- 5:25Speaker 5: empty classrooms even at a Minneapolis daycare center. Now the
- 5:29Speaker 5: state allegedly is also given the center millions in funding.
- 5:33Speaker 5: Connor Hansen Live in New York City was the latest
- 5:35Speaker 5: on that for us Hey, Connor.
- 5:37Speaker 6: Hi Kevin Well. Four years now there have been allegations
- 5:40Speaker 6: of widespread fraud and investigations in Minnesota, but now there's
- 5:45Speaker 6: even more scrutiny following a new video that's gone viral
- 5:48Speaker 6: coming from an independent journalist visiting daycare centers in the
- 5:52Speaker 6: state that are receiving millions, apparently in tax dollars, with
- 5:56Speaker 6: no signs of children there.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Take a look. Put my son into daycare here?
- 6:01Speaker 2: No, no, no, I don't know.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Can I speak to someone I don't know? No?
- 6:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I would like to see if I can put
- 6:07Speaker 6: my son Joey here now. Twenty three year old journalist
- 6:09Speaker 6: Nick Shirley visited one business that couldn't even spell its
- 6:13Speaker 6: name correctly, with a sign saying leering center instead of learning.
- 6:17Speaker 6: Some had blacked out windows and most had no signs
- 6:20Speaker 6: of children there on a weekday. The viral video sparking
- 6:24Speaker 6: a strong reaction from Vice President jd Vance, who wrote,
- 6:28Speaker 6: politicians like it because they get power. Welfare cheats like
- 6:31Speaker 6: it because they get rich.
- 6:33Speaker 1: But it's a zero.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Sum game and they're stealing both money and political power
- 6:37Speaker 6: from Minnesota's Earlier this month, Minnesota's assistant US Attorney said
- 6:42Speaker 6: fraud involving Medicaid services likely reached more than nine billion dollars.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Fraud is not small, It isn't isolated. The magnitude cannot
- 6:53Speaker 1: be overstated. It's a staggering, industrial scale fraud.
- 6:58Speaker 6: The eye director of Cash Pattel just posted on x
- 7:01Speaker 6: saying that might just be the tip of the iceberg.
- 7:04Speaker 6: Despite mounting criticism aimed at him from the White House
- 7:07Speaker 6: and others, Governor Tim Walls has blamed Republicans for the
- 7:11Speaker 6: lack of a solution.
- 7:13Speaker 7: Nobody in the legislature on the Republican side is interested
- 7:16Speaker 7: in solving this. Mike God, it would be the worst
- 7:18Speaker 7: thing in the world for them if this is solved
- 7:20Speaker 7: like we're doing it here early this year, because then
- 7:22Speaker 7: what are they going to run on?
- 7:24Speaker 6: And we've reached down to Governor Wallace for comment on
- 7:26Speaker 6: that video, no response so far. Cash Battel also warning
- 7:30Speaker 6: that possible denaturalization and deportation proceedings could come from this.
- 7:36Speaker 4: And this is exactly why the FBI Director cash Battel
- 7:39Speaker 4: not only came out but recognize that the ongoing fraud
- 7:42Speaker 4: scandal and folding in Minnesota involving these childcare centers, saying
- 7:48Speaker 4: it is a top priority of the FBI. This video
- 7:53Speaker 4: all from a journalist on YouTube, Nick Shirley, going viral
- 7:57Speaker 4: over the weekend because he did what the media refused
- 8:01Speaker 4: to do, which is the second part of this story
- 8:04Speaker 4: that everyone should be asking questions about. How is it
- 8:07Speaker 4: that a twenty something who has a YouTube channel did
- 8:11Speaker 4: more reporting on this fraud than the entire media conglomerate
- 8:17Speaker 4: of the United States of America combined. How is it
- 8:21Speaker 4: that he was able to go and confront employees at
- 8:25Speaker 4: these alleged learning centers in Minnesota receiving millions of dollars
- 8:29Speaker 4: in aid despite showing no signs of operational activity. How
- 8:35Speaker 4: is it that four million dollars of hard earned tax
- 8:38Speaker 4: dollars went to one center where they couldn't even spell
- 8:43Speaker 4: the word learning correctly? And how did the media not
- 8:47Speaker 4: do their job. The FBI Caspertel posted on x is
- 8:52Speaker 4: aware of the recent social media report in Minnesota. However,
- 8:57Speaker 4: even before the public conversation escalated online, the FBI had
- 9:02Speaker 4: surged personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle the
- 9:07Speaker 4: large scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs, fraud that steals
- 9:13Speaker 4: from taxpayers. The FBI director goes on to say, and
- 9:17Speaker 4: Rob's vulnerable children will remain a top FBI priority in
- 9:21Speaker 4: Minnesota and nationwide. Bettel then noted that the FBI dismantled
- 9:27Speaker 4: a two hundred and fifty million dollar fraud scheme that
- 9:30Speaker 4: stole federal food aid meant for vulnerable children during COVID say.
- 9:36Speaker 4: The investigation exposed sham vendors, shell companies, and large scale
- 9:41Speaker 4: money laundering tied to the Feeding Our Future network. The
- 9:45Speaker 4: case led to seventy eight indictments and fifty seven convictions.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Defendants included high level and high named individuals, each of
- 9:55Speaker 4: them charged for their roles ranging from wirefraud to money
- 9:58Speaker 4: laundering to conspiracy. Patel concluded that these schemes quote are
- 10:04Speaker 4: just the tip of the very large ice berg. The
- 10:08Speaker 4: assistant US attorney. By the way, Joseph Thompson also revealed
- 10:12Speaker 4: earlier this month at half of the eighteen billion in
- 10:16Speaker 4: federal welfare funds which support fourteen Minnesota run programs since
- 10:21Speaker 4: twenty eighteen, have been lost to fraud. Quote, Minnesota has
- 10:27Speaker 4: become a magnet for fraud, so much so that we
- 10:31Speaker 4: have developed a fraud tourism industry, people coming to our
- 10:35Speaker 4: state purely to exploit and defraud its programs. Thompson said,
- 10:40Speaker 4: this is deeply unsettling and a reality that all Minnesotans
- 10:44Speaker 4: should understand. So you go back to the big question,
- 10:49Speaker 4: how is it that one man was able to do
- 10:51Speaker 4: so much good? And how was it that the media
- 10:54Speaker 4: and the Democratic Party did nothing to stop it? Well,
- 10:59Speaker 4: it could be for two reasons. One, the media was
- 11:01Speaker 4: in on it. They knew there was reports of fraud,
- 11:04Speaker 4: and they deliberately chose to look the other way. Why
- 11:08Speaker 4: because much of that money was coming back to support
- 11:12Speaker 4: Democrats who were running for office and who had been elected.
- 11:17Speaker 4: There's also the other question, how much to Governor Waltz,
- 11:20Speaker 4: the former man who could have been one heartbeat away
- 11:24Speaker 4: from the presidency. What did he know and when did
- 11:27Speaker 4: he know it? And how involved was he and why
- 11:29Speaker 4: is he not doing more? You have to remember all
- 11:32Speaker 4: he's saying now is somehow this is the Republican's fault,
- 11:36Speaker 4: even though Democrats are in charge of every aspect of
- 11:39Speaker 4: the state of Minnesota. And he doesn't answer the question,
- 11:43Speaker 4: and he also doesn't seem to be angry at all.
- 11:46Speaker 4: He doesn't seem to care about the fraud, which brings
- 11:49Speaker 4: us back to exactly what Casptel said. Not only is
- 11:53Speaker 4: the FBI aware of the recent social media reports, but
- 11:56Speaker 4: we are dismantling large scale frauds and it's only the
- 12:00Speaker 4: tip of the iceberg.
- 12:03Speaker 1: That's why Donald Trump put him in charge.
- 12:05Speaker 4: And one thing's for sure, the President is honed in
- 12:08Speaker 4: on this fraud and gonna do everything he can to
- 12:11Speaker 4: stop it.
