- 1:01Speaker 1: let everybody know it's hot out there, when of the
- 1:05Speaker 1: people who cut grass for a living say, hey, it's hot,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'm not gonna cut grass. I'm just gonna sit at
- 1:11Speaker 1: the house. So he cuts grass between six and eight
- 1:14Speaker 1: in the morning or like six and eight pm. He
- 1:17Speaker 1: don't cut grass in the middle of the day no more.
- 1:19Speaker 1: He cutting grass in the morning and late afternoon. That's it.

- 2:00Speaker 1: an actress now in twenty twenty two, she did that.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But we're gonna talk about the strike because everybody's not
- 2:05Speaker 1: acting nowadays. I remember of SAD. I'm a member of
- 2:08Speaker 1: w G. So we're gonna talk different. I'm not saying
- 2:10Speaker 1: she's an expert, but we're gonna talk about the striking
- 2:12Speaker 1: house impacting in Atlanta and the business community. She's also
- 2:15Speaker 1: the host of Black Is a New Green on radar
- 2:17Speaker 1: vision dot Com. Also, we're bringing also brought on the
- 2:21Speaker 1: show to talk about her book that we're going to
- 2:23Speaker 1: delve into. I hope we want to take phone calls
- 2:25Speaker 1: for that raising significance a guy to raise an independent,
- 2:29Speaker 1: well rounded and confident kids. Please welcome in the Money
- 2:31Speaker 1: Making Conversations Masterclass, Michelle Taylor Willis, how are you doing, Michelle? Hey, Mashawan,
- 2:37Speaker 1: how are you pretty good? I get enough information out
- 2:41Speaker 1: there about you.
- 2:42Speaker 3: I mean you gotta know if I mean you didn't mention,
- 2:44Speaker 3: like you know, my own day in the State of
- 2:46Speaker 3: Georgia or you know, talk, but I mean at that important,
- 2:54Speaker 3: I mean it's tomato tomato, no no, no.
- 2:57Speaker 1: No, no no, no, I'm sorry. Everybody. You know you
- 3:00Speaker 1: go through a bio, you got to like pull out
- 3:02Speaker 1: what you think is nuggets. Now I missed the day.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I missed the day in the state of Georgia. Now
- 3:06Speaker 1: that's that's significant.
- 3:09Speaker 4: You know.
- 3:09Speaker 1: To think about it is that you know those things
- 3:11Speaker 1: when you get an honor. I will tell people being
- 3:13Speaker 1: honored sometimes you know you want it, but then you
- 3:17Speaker 1: get there and you realize that's such a powerful journey
- 3:20Speaker 1: to for somebody to sit back and say, you know,
- 3:22Speaker 1: some we want to show respect. We want to let
- 3:26Speaker 1: you know what you're doing is well recognized in the community,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and we want to give you this, whether it's a
- 3:32Speaker 1: trophy or a day or moment. How do you react
- 3:35Speaker 1: to that? And when people come to you and recognize
- 3:38Speaker 1: you for your community efforts?
- 3:42Speaker 3: Man, I like, literally, I don't mean to sound cliche,
- 3:45Speaker 3: is I always try to find a different way to
- 3:46Speaker 3: say this. I don't sound like everybody else, but like
- 3:49Speaker 3: I count it and honor. Like, I don't think I'm
- 3:52Speaker 3: ever one to get a stick of being recognized just
- 3:56Speaker 3: because I mean, you know, I'm in Atlanta, and there
- 3:58Speaker 3: are a lot of people doing amazing things right Atlanta.
- 4:03Speaker 3: There really are, you know what I'm saying, And and
- 4:07Speaker 3: so I always like I just I'm always thankful. My
- 4:11Speaker 3: husband makes sun of me because he'll be like, you
- 4:13Speaker 3: get like an award a week, aren't you don't you
- 4:15Speaker 3: get sick of it? And I'm like, no, I don't,
- 4:17Speaker 3: Like I will. I will never be sick of somebody
- 4:22Speaker 3: telling me that they value what I do, they value
- 4:25Speaker 3: what my team does, they value what I do as
- 4:28Speaker 3: a collaborator. Like that will never get old of me.
- 4:31Speaker 3: So I don't ever want to be in a position
- 4:34Speaker 3: where I'm like, ah, another way, like, I don't. I
- 4:36Speaker 3: don't ever see myself being in that position. It's an
- 4:39Speaker 3: honor and and I don't. I don't. I don't take
- 4:42Speaker 3: that lightly at all.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Well, you know the thing about it is that you know,
- 4:45Speaker 1: whenever I see in the resume, because I'm a member
- 4:47Speaker 1: of Omega sign Fire Attorney Incorporate.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Okay, you're a huge wait wait wait wait are you
- 4:51Speaker 3: a cute dog? Are you an Omega man?
- 4:54Speaker 1: I am a cute dog. Okay, a cute dog for real?
- 4:59Speaker 1: For real, I am I'm the real deal here, Okay
- 5:02Speaker 1: players thirteen weeks you know what I'm saying, wal dog collar,
- 5:05Speaker 1: gold boots. You know my first step show, I didn't
- 5:08Speaker 1: have no shirt on body was paying in gold. My
- 5:17Speaker 1: my trucks were purple and my gold. My boots were gold.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I'm tall, I was real cute all back in college.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Now there's some pictures out there people got me. They
- 5:25Speaker 1: still send them to I remember this, Remember that, I
- 5:28Speaker 1: tell them where you find that for it, because you know,
- 5:30Speaker 1: back when I was called. You know, I graduated in
- 5:32Speaker 1: college in eighty three, so it wasn't there wasn't no
- 5:35Speaker 1: phones out there. You know, I don't know what these
- 5:37Speaker 1: people got these pictures from, but it's so many people
- 5:39Speaker 1: that pictures of me stepping. People got pictures of me half.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I guess you could say naked because I was in
- 5:45Speaker 1: public with shorts on, no shirt on and just some
- 5:47Speaker 1: gold boots and purple shorts. So but you can tell
- 5:51Speaker 1: me nothing. You can tell me Sean nothing back in
- 5:53Speaker 1: the day. And so now you you you remember of Aka,
- 5:56Speaker 1: and I wanted to bring that up because I know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: and I tell this to everybody that you know, fraternities
- 6:04Speaker 1: and sororities are not for everyone. But I will tell
- 6:07Speaker 1: you this about Rashaan McDonald pledging Omega sift Fire Fraternity.
- 6:11Speaker 1: That's the fraternity I chose the pledge and I'm not
- 6:13Speaker 1: denouncing any other fraternity. It changed my life because it
- 6:18Speaker 1: gave me focus. I was wandering around in college. It
- 6:21Speaker 1: took me seven years to graduate, Michelle, seven years of graduate.
- 6:25Speaker 1: That was for real, seven years, Okay, four and a
- 6:29Speaker 1: half years. I was still a sophomore in college, still sophomore.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And when it didn't matter, it didn't matter. I wasn't
- 6:38Speaker 1: earning no hours. I wasn't earning no hours, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 1: because because you know, I was just I. You know,
- 6:46Speaker 1: I had no relationships or with individual I was when focused,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I
- 6:52Speaker 1: did maintain my GPA and so which which which was
- 6:56Speaker 1: enough to allow me to pledge. And that pledge what
- 7:01Speaker 1: I always talk to people about. That's when I learned
- 7:03Speaker 1: about goal setting when I played, because that was a
- 7:06Speaker 1: window that I could reach. The playge program says six weeks,
- 7:10Speaker 1: it winded up. They you know, they didn't tell it
- 7:11Speaker 1: two because of thirteen weeks. But in that thirteen weeks,
- 7:14Speaker 1: there was a goal I was able to accomplish. And
- 7:17Speaker 1: I tell you, Michelle, it changed my life because once
- 7:19Speaker 1: I was able to accomplish that goal, guess what two
- 7:22Speaker 1: and a half years later I graduated from college. Just
- 7:25Speaker 1: tells your backstory of why being a member of AKA.
- 7:28Speaker 1: You also know Vice President Kamala Harris is a member
- 7:31Speaker 1: of your sorority. Talk about the impact of being a
- 7:33Speaker 1: member of sorority had on your life, a hass on
- 7:36Speaker 1: your life? Excuse me?
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yeah, and still does I mean to this day. No,
- 7:41Speaker 3: You're absolutely right. It was a life changing event. And
- 7:47Speaker 3: you know, I don't want to say I would. I
- 7:49Speaker 3: don't know where I would be if I weren't if
- 7:51Speaker 3: I hadn't pledged. I mean, I'm sure i'd be doing
- 7:53Speaker 3: you know, I'd be doing fine, I'd be doing something.
- 7:55Speaker 3: But you know, one of the things that pledge in
- 7:58Speaker 3: AKA taught me was the value or expanded my value
- 8:02Speaker 3: of relationships, networking and having you know, kind of an
- 8:08Speaker 3: automatic right, you have an automatic network of people, right
- 8:14Speaker 3: that will you know, go to that for you so
- 8:17Speaker 3: to speak and it and it you know when you're
- 8:19Speaker 3: when you're doing it, then you can't project fifteen, twenty
- 8:23Speaker 3: twenty five years down the road, right, you just know
- 8:25Speaker 3: you're doing it. You know, service to all mankind right
- 8:28Speaker 3: as an AA, but as an adult sporting number. You know,
- 8:34Speaker 3: when I talk to somebody right now, o'shauna. You know
- 8:36Speaker 3: this If I say, hey, I'm looking to do such
- 8:39Speaker 3: and such and such I need this, and they're like, oh,
- 8:42Speaker 3: connect you to such a she's a soul war she'll
- 8:44Speaker 3: take care of you know what I mean? Right right
- 8:46Speaker 3: right right that you know? I mean, I'm sure it
- 8:48Speaker 3: happens to you, right, We're not that's a bro. We
- 8:50Speaker 3: got you, right, I mean, it's literally like an it's
- 8:53Speaker 3: an automatic, no hose barred like we got you. And
- 8:58Speaker 3: I think, you know, for us as black people, that's
- 9:01Speaker 3: a great thing to have because so much historically of
- 9:05Speaker 3: what we've done and what we've accomplished and what we've
- 9:08Speaker 3: had to do has been conditional.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Right.
- 9:11Speaker 3: The relationships were conditional, Right, The accomplishments were conditional. There
- 9:16Speaker 3: are all these things that if you do this, this, this,
- 9:19Speaker 3: this and this, this can happen. So to be able
- 9:21Speaker 3: to be amongst a network of people that prove themselves
- 9:26Speaker 3: over and over again that they like they are in
- 9:29Speaker 3: it for you no matter what, and there's no condition, right,
- 9:32Speaker 3: All you got to do is say I'm an aka.
- 9:35Speaker 3: It's kind of like you know, saying hey, you know
- 9:39Speaker 3: I'm white, so I'm good right, I mean it really is.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I mean, you know it's interesting how you how you
- 9:45Speaker 1: are you going to the storytelling about you know, because
- 9:49Speaker 1: you get into stereotypes, you know, because you know, organizations
- 9:52Speaker 1: are like fraternity and sororities can be you know, misjudged,
- 9:57Speaker 1: you know, a party, Why should I join? But the
- 10:00Speaker 1: whole basis of all of us about academics and community
- 10:04Speaker 1: of community, uplift, that's that is the basis of it
- 10:07Speaker 1: all that's about, you know. I was on I was
- 10:10Speaker 1: it was so it was so cool. I was on
- 10:11Speaker 1: a call with I'm gonna say this Public American Red Cross,
- 10:15Speaker 1: American arth COSS and we was talking about doing some
- 10:17Speaker 1: so because because September is Sickle Seale Awareness Month and
- 10:21Speaker 1: I have sickle cell trade and so we were just
- 10:23Speaker 1: talking about blood with blood drives and things like that
- 10:26Speaker 1: and uh and then the the national director she said
- 10:30Speaker 1: the number one blood donating fraternity is a mega sci
- 10:35Speaker 1: Fi And I didn't even know that, and I was
- 10:37Speaker 1: like wow, wow.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Wow, Yeah, I mean it's there's there is a there
- 10:42Speaker 3: is the fabric of all of these organizations. Really it's service.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Ranson right to your point, and that's what we're here for.
- 10:50Speaker 3: I mean, whether you're in a subverity or fraternity or not.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I mean, at the end of the day, it's my belief.
- 10:55Speaker 3: And you know, I don't always say that what I
- 10:58Speaker 3: say is the absolute truth, but I I believe that
- 11:01Speaker 3: we are here for everybody else. I mean, I just
- 11:03Speaker 3: believe that. I don't think we're here for ourselves, right,
- 11:07Speaker 3: So absolutely, I think, you know, the premise of these
- 11:11Speaker 3: organizations is to, you know, get you focused on the
- 11:15Speaker 3: fact that that we are here for everybody else, right,
- 11:19Speaker 3: And it's kind of if you don't believe that, then
- 11:21Speaker 3: you will once you're finished.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Right.
- 11:23Speaker 1: These are these are problems, these are these are moments
- 11:26Speaker 1: that allow us to be ourselves, allow us to focus
- 11:29Speaker 1: and become go already successful, whether it's successful as an individuals,
- 11:33Speaker 1: successful as business leaders, successful as community leaders, are successful
- 11:37Speaker 1: as entrepreneurs. That's important. And I wanted I want to
- 11:40Speaker 1: transition to your book. One of the reasons I read
- 11:42Speaker 1: your guy, I should say a guide, you know, because
- 11:44Speaker 1: it's like fifty nine pages and I've.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Read it's so easy.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I've read it. And uh, And the reason I
- 11:51Speaker 1: wanted to bring it up call is called raising significance.
- 11:55Speaker 1: And I want you to before we go to break,
- 11:56Speaker 1: I want you to tell everybody what does that title mean?
- 11:58Speaker 1: Because when it come back, everybody gonna know what the
- 12:01Speaker 1: title means. So when we start talking about the book
- 12:03Speaker 1: or the guide that we'll be they'll be engaged. Raise
- 12:06Speaker 1: the significance, Michelle Taylor willis what does that mean?
- 12:10Speaker 3: Yeah? So real quick. I believe there's a difference between
- 12:14Speaker 3: success and significance.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Success is you've accomplished what you and your family and
- 12:20Speaker 3: society bems as what you should have done. Right. You
- 12:23Speaker 3: graduate from college or whatever that looks like. You get
- 12:26Speaker 3: a good job or start a business, you have two
- 12:28Speaker 3: and a half kids, you get a garage or the sense,
- 12:30Speaker 3: and you don't you wake up, you go to school,
- 12:32Speaker 3: get your kids to school, you go to work, come back,
- 12:34Speaker 3: close the garage, do or have dinner with your family,
- 12:36Speaker 3: and wake up and do it all again. Right that
- 12:38Speaker 3: success and you have an enclosure circle. Success is about
- 12:42Speaker 3: you and your immediate whatever or whoever they are. Significance
- 12:46Speaker 3: is about how you turn your success to work for
- 12:50Speaker 3: everybody else. Right, And I think most people are playing
- 12:54Speaker 3: most people who are quote unquote successful or playing at
- 12:57Speaker 3: a successful level, right, but they don't. They don't want to,
- 13:00Speaker 3: you know, dive into this realm and sphere of significance.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Significance is how you are using what you can do
- 13:09Speaker 3: to change the world to teach everybody else how to
- 13:11Speaker 3: change the world, so that they can then teach everybody
- 13:14Speaker 3: else to change the world. It's like a huge domino
- 13:17Speaker 3: effect basically of success, and most people are operating in
- 13:21Speaker 3: a successful realm and the world is kind of falling
- 13:25Speaker 3: apart because people are okay with being successful and nobody's
- 13:29Speaker 3: comfortable with being significant. So raising significance is, you know, fundamental, well.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Raising significance is about raising significant children. It is about
- 13:41Speaker 3: like eight things that you can do that I'm not
- 13:43Speaker 3: fool proof. I tell people I'm not a parenting expert.
- 13:46Speaker 3: My kids aren't perfect. I'm not am nowhere near the
- 13:48Speaker 3: perfect parents, right, But they're just these eight tenants that
- 13:53Speaker 3: you can do that if you instill these things into
- 13:55Speaker 3: your children as early as possible, they will become independent,
- 13:59Speaker 3: they'll be where well rounded, they'll be out of the
- 14:02Speaker 3: box thinkers, so that significance will not be something they
- 14:07Speaker 3: happen upon. It'll be intentional and they won't have a
- 14:10Speaker 3: choice but to be significant. Because you have trained them. Wow,
- 14:13Speaker 3: that way cool.
- 14:14Speaker 1: She set the stage. Michelle Taylor willis the book raising
- 14:17Speaker 1: significance if you want to call or talk to us
- 14:20Speaker 1: when come back. I'm a delve into various chapters and
- 14:22Speaker 1: also share my feedback of personal The book impacted me.
- 14:27Speaker 1: You know, I come from a big family, you know,
- 14:29Speaker 1: so I only have one child. So all these things
- 14:31Speaker 1: play a role in how we look in But the
- 14:33Speaker 1: number one thing we always say is that as a parent,
- 14:36Speaker 1: you just want your child to have a better life
- 14:38Speaker 1: than what you have. When we'll be right back with
- 14:40Speaker 1: more Money Making Conversation Masterclass.
- 14:50Speaker 4: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass

- 15:02Speaker 5: Grammar Award nominated singer Kara shared Kelly's new book, Big
- 15:06Speaker 5: Bowld and Beautiful Owning The Woman God Made You to
- 15:09Speaker 5: Be is a must read as she shares her advice
- 15:12Speaker 5: on body positivity, goal setting, and leading with your gifts.
- 15:16Speaker 7: Everything should not be taken personally, So I absolutely agree
- 15:20Speaker 7: with you. And if we don't have that understanding, and
- 15:22Speaker 7: if we're always taking things personally, We'll always be responding
- 15:25Speaker 7: to any and everything to where it'll take so much
- 15:28Speaker 7: energy it'll shift our focus off of what we really
- 15:31Speaker 7: should be focused on. And so I have had to
- 15:33Speaker 7: learn that the picture is bigger than me. It's so
- 15:36Speaker 7: far beyond one moment, like be a student at every
- 15:40Speaker 7: opportunity you get. But even in the book I talk
- 15:43Speaker 7: about it, it's a chapter called making the most of
- 15:46Speaker 7: every Opportunity.

- 17:03Speaker 4: Now, let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashaan McDonald.
- 17:09Speaker 1: How you doing this is Rashawn McDonald, Welcome back to
- 17:11Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Master Class. Parenting. You know, I have
- 17:14Speaker 1: one daughter, a beautiful daughter, lover to death if we
- 17:17Speaker 1: talk every day. She's now twenty six, wow, And I
- 17:24Speaker 1: can remember just yesterday her on my laying on my
- 17:27Speaker 1: chest and not being able to push up. And so
- 17:31Speaker 1: all I ever wanted and still want is for her
- 17:34Speaker 1: to live a better life and for her. When I
- 17:36Speaker 1: read your guide, it was about raising significance. It was
- 17:38Speaker 1: about placing a child in the position to win. That
- 17:41Speaker 1: was my takeaway from your book.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Right man, you nailed it. You nailed it, Rashaw, you
- 17:47Speaker 3: nailed it.
- 17:48Speaker 1: And because of the fact that when it was a
- 17:50Speaker 1: couple of things, I want to break up and just
- 17:52Speaker 1: give a little history about me, so you know where
- 17:54Speaker 1: I'm coming from, because Michelle, you have four boys, correct,
- 17:57Speaker 1: I do.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Have four boys and you have one girl, right.
- 18:00Speaker 1: And your my daughter's twenty six is the age range
- 18:02Speaker 1: of your boys.
- 18:04Speaker 3: So my oldest is twenty four. And then I have
- 18:07Speaker 3: a sixteen of fifteen and a twelve.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Sixteen thirteen twelve. I grew up my personally. I grew
- 18:13Speaker 1: up with six sisters and two brothers. I was a
- 18:15Speaker 1: middle child and four older sisters, and I grew up
- 18:17Speaker 1: in the era where you know, you know, we've still
- 18:20Speaker 1: had diapers and safety pins. So they always laughed. You know,
- 18:23Speaker 1: we stuck you. We stuck you a lot growing up.
- 18:26Speaker 1: I was pre pappered, so they did me in. But
- 18:28Speaker 1: the big part about by having a child is that
- 18:32Speaker 1: it is a miracle to have a healthy child. A
- 18:35Speaker 1: lot of people don't understand that until you have a child,
- 18:38Speaker 1: you realize, Wow, I am really really blessed. And one
- 18:41Speaker 1: of the things in reading your book are raised significance.
- 18:44Speaker 1: You said some fear is good. It just is.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you mean the fear that kids should have of
- 18:51Speaker 3: their parents.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yes, yes, you know of anything, a police of authority,
- 18:57Speaker 1: of anything, be afraid.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Look I did say all that, didn't I forget? Yeah,
- 19:05Speaker 3: I did. No, it is because that's would keeps you
- 19:09Speaker 3: in check, right, I mean, if you are you know,
- 19:13Speaker 3: godly or Christian, you know, you know the whole thing
- 19:14Speaker 3: about the healthy fear of God, right, the healthy fear
- 19:17Speaker 3: of God should keep you from doing you know, dumb
- 19:19Speaker 3: stuff theoretically right. And I just had this conversation with
- 19:24Speaker 3: my twelve year old a few days ago. A quick story.
- 19:28Speaker 3: We were at the we were at the football game
- 19:30Speaker 3: for my sixteen year old, and we were getting we
- 19:34Speaker 3: were walking back to the car, and it was just
- 19:36Speaker 3: a twelve year old in me and a car was
- 19:40Speaker 3: I saw the car flying down the road. And at
- 19:45Speaker 3: the same time as I see are flying down the road,
- 19:47Speaker 3: there's a bug, like a huge bug. I'm afraid of bugs.
- 19:50Speaker 3: I'm just telling you, I don't like them. I don't
- 19:51Speaker 3: care if it's a mesquito or the biggest bee. I'm
- 19:54Speaker 3: going to run from a bug. So I saw this
- 19:56Speaker 3: huge bug approaching the car. So I'm telling him to
- 19:59Speaker 3: get in the car as quickly as possible to avoid
- 20:02Speaker 3: the car that's oncoming, and to avoid this big that's
- 20:08Speaker 3: not to get enough. So it's like a double you know,
- 20:10Speaker 3: a double win.
- 20:11Speaker 1: An right, heavy metal heavy metal object fly either one.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Either one of these are the enemy, okay or both.
- 20:21Speaker 3: And I literally say, Pace, get in the car, Get
- 20:25Speaker 3: in the car now, And I mean he books that
- 20:27Speaker 3: he opens the car, or he gets in the car. Boom,
- 20:29Speaker 3: he like, in like two seconds, he's in the car.
- 20:33Speaker 3: It immediately brought me back to this point in the
- 20:37Speaker 3: book that you're mentioning right now, because what happens is,
- 20:41Speaker 3: you know, we try to have these negotiations with our kids,
- 20:44Speaker 3: and I do think that it's it's good sometimes that
- 20:47Speaker 3: you have these discussions and we want to hear what
- 20:49Speaker 3: they're thinking and what their thoughts are and in their philosophies.
- 20:53Speaker 3: But sometimes you just need to do what I say
- 20:55Speaker 3: do right, And you don't need to ask me, You
- 20:58Speaker 3: don't need to wonder. You just need to know when
- 21:00Speaker 3: I tell you sometimes, you're gonna do it because I'm
- 21:03Speaker 3: saving your life and you should operate when I tell
- 21:07Speaker 3: you that, you should operate under the premise and I'm
- 21:10Speaker 3: saving your life. And when I say, I say it
- 21:12Speaker 3: one time and you do it. And that is the
- 21:16Speaker 3: first the first tenant of the book is obey immediately
- 21:20Speaker 3: and happily. And my kids have been saying that since
- 21:23Speaker 3: they were since take a talk, it's obey immediately and happily.
- 21:27Speaker 3: You do what I say to do, and you act
- 21:29Speaker 3: happy about it, because if you don't act happy, then
- 21:31Speaker 3: you're gonna make me unhappy. And I promise you you
- 21:34Speaker 3: don't want me unhappy.
- 21:37Speaker 1: You know it is really And that's because that that
- 21:39Speaker 1: jumped out of me because I'm not saying my daughter
- 21:42Speaker 1: is fearful of me, but my daughter knew. My daughter
- 21:45Speaker 1: knew and who our dad was, and then she knew
- 21:49Speaker 1: when I was upset and uh, and she knew when
- 21:52Speaker 1: she did wrong. And it's important I think that when
- 21:55Speaker 1: we look at you know, look, uh we my mom
- 21:59Speaker 1: was raised, when her grandparents were all raised, are a
- 22:02Speaker 1: different era of different rules because technology allows a certain
- 22:05Speaker 1: I grew up on the rotary done telephone, okay, and
- 22:08Speaker 1: now I'm living in the video videophones and so so
- 22:12Speaker 1: I don't think that when I hear people talking about
- 22:15Speaker 1: parenting and things like, I think it all goes back
- 22:17Speaker 1: to discipline, It all goes back to consistency, It all
- 22:20Speaker 1: goes back to fear. If they fear the consequences. I
- 22:25Speaker 1: think that's the key word in this whole, because he
- 22:27Speaker 1: feared consequences if he didn't get in.
- 22:29Speaker 3: That car, that's right, correct, right, Yeah, Now.
- 22:33Speaker 1: We don't know. We don't know what michelle consequences were.
- 22:37Speaker 1: All I know is she's instilled in him there are
- 22:41Speaker 1: consequences out there that he know about that if you
- 22:44Speaker 1: don't get in this car, we're gonna have proud that's right.
- 22:47Speaker 3: And the thing to your point right when you said
- 22:49Speaker 3: about it could be the police or the or authority.
- 22:52Speaker 3: You know, they need to have a healthy fear of authority.
- 22:54Speaker 3: I mean, we just do. We don't want to, we
- 22:56Speaker 3: don't want to have to yield to people, but it
- 22:58Speaker 3: just is the way it is. You're going to have
- 23:00Speaker 3: to yield. If you're going to work for somebody or
- 23:02Speaker 3: work with you have to learn how to submit at
- 23:05Speaker 3: a certain in a certain way to authority Like these
- 23:09Speaker 3: are just it's just the way it is until you
- 23:11Speaker 3: are able to call the shots right, and so it
- 23:14Speaker 3: doesn't matter what the consequence is, It's always going to
- 23:17Speaker 3: be a consequence, right, and so sometimes it's mine and
- 23:22Speaker 3: you don't want those right.
- 23:24Speaker 4: You know?
- 23:24Speaker 1: Interesting, you know, because I called you earlier. You know,
- 23:27Speaker 1: you know, we get to talk, and when you talking
- 23:29Speaker 1: to people, this is a friendly conversation. You everybody just
- 23:33Speaker 1: happened to be listening to Michelle and I talked because
- 23:35Speaker 1: we weren't going to talk about fraternity, as alreadies. We're
- 23:38Speaker 1: gonna be talking about acting. But this book I want
- 23:40Speaker 1: to make sure I get the time in called raising.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Significance is that you said get them piano lists. And
- 23:46Speaker 1: I'm not saying you got to go out and buy
- 23:47Speaker 1: a piano. This is all about music. It's all about
- 23:50Speaker 1: And I called her before this show. I said, wow,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I said I read. I said, I've read that that chapter.
- 23:57Speaker 1: And I remember in the step and grade, I used
- 24:01Speaker 1: to drag my B flat clarinet and my up to
- 24:03Speaker 1: school and back, you know, because because you know, my
- 24:06Speaker 1: parents can afford to pick me up after school. So
- 24:08Speaker 1: when I stayed at for band practice, I had to
- 24:12Speaker 1: walk home, or to walk home from middle school. Then
- 24:14Speaker 1: that was a long walk, I'm tell you something. And
- 24:16Speaker 1: when I went from B flat clarenef to a tennis saxophone,
- 24:19Speaker 1: that was a really long walk, dragging that big old
- 24:22Speaker 1: device all the way home. But what you're talking about
- 24:25Speaker 1: is recall addition, multiplication, and rhythm. That was my huge
- 24:29Speaker 1: takeaway from that chapter. And that's what And I told her,
- 24:32Speaker 1: I said, guess what, I said. My degree is in mathematics.
- 24:36Speaker 1: And she just smiled because if I didn't do music,
- 24:39Speaker 1: I don't think i'd be a My degree would have
- 24:42Speaker 1: been in mathematic mathematics today.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's and it's really it's critical thinking, right, I mean,
- 24:47Speaker 3: what we are lacking as a society and our children, like,
- 24:51Speaker 3: it's critical thinking. And there's several studies out there. I mean,
- 24:55Speaker 3: like I don't I'm certainly not an expert on this,
- 24:57Speaker 3: but I've read enough of them and I've seen enough
- 24:59Speaker 3: of them. Like there's a direct correlate between you know,
- 25:03Speaker 3: classical music and brain wigs and young kids and babies. Right,
- 25:08Speaker 3: there's a direct correlation between critical thinking and math. There's
- 25:13Speaker 3: a direct correlation between critical thinking and early introduction of music.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I mean, it's all, it's all connected. I mean, something
- 25:22Speaker 3: happens when classical music is playing and the synapses are
- 25:26Speaker 3: firing at different levels in young children's brains that prepares
- 25:31Speaker 3: them to be able to do things differently. And I mean,
- 25:34Speaker 3: and I was taught and this is what I've dealt
- 25:36Speaker 3: with all of my children. They all started piano at five,
- 25:40Speaker 3: and they all play musical instruments to this state. Even
- 25:42Speaker 3: my twenty four year old can still play the piano.
- 25:45Speaker 3: He doesn't want to admit it, but when he can.
- 25:48Speaker 3: But it's all I mean, they've all done well in
- 25:51Speaker 3: math and science and it's because they had to add
- 25:55Speaker 3: add up notes right when they were five.
- 25:57Speaker 1: And my wife we got to get a piano, gotta
- 26:00Speaker 1: get a panel listening to Yeah, my greatest disappointment was
- 26:10Speaker 1: that I walked away from music and I didn't maintain
- 26:13Speaker 1: that relationship that music incorporated into my life because of
- 26:17Speaker 1: the fact that it really played a significant role on
- 26:19Speaker 1: who I am and my memory was was totally tied
- 26:23Speaker 1: to music. It was totally enhanced my recall and all
- 26:27Speaker 1: of the good stuff. But as we wrap up this
- 26:29Speaker 1: interview with you, Michelle, how do how do we get
- 26:32Speaker 1: in touch with you? And what are you working on?
- 26:33Speaker 7: When?
- 26:33Speaker 1: Make sure I get your projects out of there and
- 26:35Speaker 1: just not hogged this commercial by Rashon McDonald and his
- 26:38Speaker 1: questions what's going on in Michelle's life?
- 26:41Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I you know, we need another two
- 26:44Speaker 3: to three days with Shawn, I think to move through.
- 26:54Speaker 4: We'll be right back with more money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 26:57Speaker 4: with Through Seawan McDonald.
- 27:01Speaker 6: You are now tuned into the money Making Conversations Minute
- 27:04Speaker 6: of Inspiration with Rashawn McDonald.
- 27:06Speaker 5: This week, I sat down with media mobile, Hollywood executive
- 27:09Speaker 5: and philanthropists Nick Cannon. Although the former child star has
- 27:13Speaker 5: experienced a long career of success with no signs of
- 27:16Speaker 5: slowing down, he explains why he's so passionate about creating
- 27:20Speaker 5: opportunities for others.
- 27:22Speaker 9: It's all about the community. For me, It's about giving
- 27:24Speaker 9: other people opportunities. It's about opening doors and sharing their knowledge,
- 27:27Speaker 9: wealth and wisdom that I've obtained with everyone else. I mean,
- 27:31Speaker 9: you know, obviously I'm still in school. Hopefully, you know,
- 27:34Speaker 9: I'll be able to you know, HU Howard University. I
- 27:37Speaker 9: want to go all the way. I'm getting my masters,
- 27:38Speaker 9: want to go to my doctorate and eventually be a
- 27:41Speaker 9: professor and teach the things that I've picked up along
- 27:46Speaker 9: the way. But it's all about the community, whether it's teaching,
- 27:49Speaker 9: whether it's entertaining, whether it's investing into us.
- 27:53Speaker 5: If you want to listen to this full interview with
- 27:55Speaker 5: Nick Cannon, it's available on money Making Conversations dot com.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Now let's return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashawn McDonald.
- 28:06Speaker 1: What's going on in the Shield?
- 28:07Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, you know, we'd need another two to
- 28:10Speaker 3: three days for Shawn, I think to move through. I
- 28:13Speaker 3: got a lot of things. I'm really unfortunate. I mean,
- 28:15Speaker 3: like you mentioned earlier, the acting is taken off. I
- 28:19Speaker 3: just finished the female lead and I'll play and never
- 28:21Speaker 3: play with the Woman's Heart, which is going to be
- 28:22Speaker 3: remounted again in November here in Atlanta, and then thank you,
- 28:27Speaker 3: and then there's an uh it'll be running again at
- 28:30Speaker 3: another playhouse in Atlanta shortly thereafter. You know, we can't
- 28:35Speaker 3: do too much right because of the strike. But I
- 28:37Speaker 3: am doing a public reading at the Atlanta Black Theater Festival,
- 28:40Speaker 3: which they're actually taken to making this year. That's next week.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I did get books for an independent project that's coming.
- 28:47Speaker 3: So the acting is great. I've been speaking a lot.
- 28:49Speaker 3: I'll be hosting one of the very few ted exes
- 28:54Speaker 3: that are going to be hosted at an HBCU. I
- 28:56Speaker 3: don't know if you know this, but Morris Brown is
- 28:58Speaker 3: actually hosting a ted X.
- 29:00Speaker 1: And Wen what's that day? What's that day?
- 29:03Speaker 3: That is September twenty first, from eleven to three. Yeah,
- 29:06Speaker 3: and Jamal Bryant speaking all of those guys. So I'll
- 29:10Speaker 3: be hosting that event as well.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Gratulation.
- 29:12Speaker 3: I've got speaking stuff coming up. Yeah, we've got September
- 29:15Speaker 3: twenty fourth.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Right, September twenty first, twenty first. Okay, please please give
- 29:20Speaker 1: me a fly on that. Sure, I remind my listeners
- 29:25Speaker 1: about it because that's significant. That's black excellence and they're
- 29:28Speaker 1: doing it on the age.
- 29:29Speaker 3: We've got a lot of productions. Yeah, it's huge, and
- 29:31Speaker 3: we've got a lot of productions coming up. I've just
- 29:33Speaker 3: finished producing a podcast for a mer who formerly looms
- 29:37Speaker 3: from you know, from Tough, I mean, Didy Gosh, I'm
- 29:42Speaker 3: trying to think bad boy, thank you. I know, right,
- 29:47Speaker 3: there's so much so, you know, I want I want
- 29:49Speaker 3: to tell you this a couple of products I'm cping.
- 29:51Speaker 3: It's a lot. Yeah, what you got?
- 29:53Speaker 1: You know when when I talk about excellence and I'm

- 30:06Speaker 1: say value what I bring to the table and what
- 30:10Speaker 1: I wanted to bring an introduce just like an introducing
- 30:13Speaker 1: you through my show Everybody Knows You, and it just shows.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Its premieres on wc OK. It's syndicated various H twenty,
- 30:21Speaker 1: HBCU campuses, it streams internationally. You know, one thought as
- 30:26Speaker 1: we close, what is what? What is the one walk
- 30:28Speaker 1: away you'd like to have for our listeners to know
- 30:31Speaker 1: about Michelle Taylor.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Willis the one thing to know about me? Yes, ma'am,
- 30:38Speaker 3: It's never about me.
- 30:40Speaker 1: I like that. I like that because you know what.
- 30:43Speaker 1: I like that because that's what your book is about.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Your book is about raising four men who understand society
- 30:49Speaker 1: has a lot of ups and downs and you want
- 30:51Speaker 1: them in a winning situation. And that's what your book
- 30:54Speaker 1: is about. For any parent who reads that guy, it's
- 30:56Speaker 1: called raising significance.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's never It's never about you people. Yeah, the
- 31:03Speaker 3: people see people like you or like me, Verrashawn, and
- 31:05Speaker 3: they think Michelle Michelle, Michelle Michelle or shaw Rashan, And
- 31:08Speaker 3: it's not about me. It's about you know what. You know,
- 31:11Speaker 3: It's about the team or lord of it. I'm me
- 31:13Speaker 3: because I have a fantastic team. I'm me because a
- 31:17Speaker 3: great support. That's right.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you Kelly is the moll I want to thank
- 31:22Speaker 1: you for.
