- 0:00Speaker 1: A specter is haunting the United States, the specter of
- 0:04Speaker 1: Bernie's revolution. We are joined tonight not just by the Senator,
- 0:08Speaker 1: but by someone who fled another socialist revolution, one that
- 0:12Speaker 1: Bernie Sanders speaks very highly of. This is Verdict with
- 0:15Speaker 1: Ted Cruz. Welcome back to Verdict with Ted Cruz. We
- 0:25Speaker 1: are joined as ever by the Senator and also by
- 0:28Speaker 1: the senators. Tia sonja is. My Spanish is not very good,
- 0:31Speaker 1: but I think that was about right, Aunt, thank you.
- 0:35Speaker 1: This is in a few days going to be the
- 0:38Speaker 1: fifty eighth anniversary of your fleeing the communist regime in Cuba,
- 0:43Speaker 1: and yet we've got the leader of the Democratic Party
- 0:46Speaker 1: nomination process is praising the Fidel Castro regime. I think
- 0:51Speaker 1: we have the clip very opposed to the authoritarian nature
- 0:54Speaker 1: of Cuba. But you know, it's unfair to simple say
- 0:56Speaker 1: everything goes bad. You know, when Fidel Castro came into office,
- 1:00Speaker 1: you know what he did. He had a massive literacy program.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Is that a bad thing? Listen? Bernie has spent his
- 1:06Speaker 1: entire life, his entire career, praising communist dictators, but this
- 1:11Speaker 1: week his latest ode to Fidel Castro frankly just pissed
- 1:16Speaker 1: me off. It and this is this is not a joke.
- 1:20Speaker 1: This guy is the front runner for the Democratic nomination
- 1:23Speaker 1: to be president. And and and he sings the praises
- 1:28Speaker 1: of Castro and Cuban communism. My dad fled Cuban fifty seven.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Matthiasonia was still there. She was a kid, and so
- 1:37Speaker 1: she saw the Cuban revolution firsthand, and she ended up
- 1:40Speaker 1: fighting against Castro. So THEA if you would, I just
- 1:44Speaker 1: want you to, first of all, tell me what it
- 1:46Speaker 1: was like to be in Cuba when when the revolution happened,
- 1:50Speaker 1: when Castro took over, Actually he was, he was a
- 1:56Speaker 1: lot of people were happy because finally somebody was coming
- 1:59Speaker 1: in that was pretty seen. We're gonna give you a
- 2:02Speaker 1: chance to change a hope, We're going to change things around.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Everybody was going to have whatever they want to. The
- 2:08Speaker 1: poor will never be poor, the rich continued to have money,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and everybody will be the same. In reality, yes, everybody
- 2:16Speaker 1: went the same, but everybody was poor. Everybody went down.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Everybody got paid the same amount of money. There was
- 2:25Speaker 1: no difference between the poor and the rich. Everybody. It's
- 2:29Speaker 1: not everyone was. Everyone was poor and suffering and miserable.
- 2:33Speaker 1: And everybody was miserable. Everybody was miserable. What Bernie's saying
- 2:38Speaker 1: is a bunch of garbage. So you're there, you're you're
- 2:42Speaker 1: a teenager. Held were you? Probably he's sixteen fifteen? Okay,
- 2:46Speaker 1: so you're seeing this. You're a teenage girl. Right, you
- 2:49Speaker 1: see what's happening. You see Castro begin executing people, Yeah,
- 2:55Speaker 1: persecuting people. Nobody could talk, nobody could say anything. They
- 2:59Speaker 1: actually trained the people to even be against the family,
- 3:04Speaker 1: the sons, against the father, the daughter seconds. So how
- 3:07Speaker 1: did he do that by indoctrinated in these people by
- 3:11Speaker 1: telling them, we're going to give you this and that
- 3:13Speaker 1: and the other, and it's all going to be free.
- 3:15Speaker 1: But you gotta tell us what's going on in your house?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Who talk against the government. So everything was persecuting one another,
- 3:22Speaker 1: especially the older people that actually we leave a good
- 3:26Speaker 1: life before in Cuba it was beautiful. What do people
- 3:29Speaker 1: face in terms of their friends and neighbors and families
- 3:33Speaker 1: spying on them. You have people in each blog, there
- 3:37Speaker 1: is somebody that is responsible to keep an eye on
- 3:40Speaker 1: you in your house. So there are an individual every
- 3:45Speaker 1: bye and every block. And they tell you you keep
- 3:48Speaker 1: an eye on every neighbor of this blog. So what
- 3:52Speaker 1: thing watch for? They're watching for everything if you bring
- 3:54Speaker 1: anything you maybe I'm going from United States to Cuba,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and they there's somebody coming in, so we need to
- 4:03Speaker 1: wash the house in case they go out and sell
- 4:06Speaker 1: in the black market or they do something with what
- 4:08Speaker 1: you brought in. So there somebody's always keeping an iron
- 4:11Speaker 1: you and try to report you a good A good
- 4:15Speaker 1: thing that happened to something that happened to me that
- 4:17Speaker 1: is very interesting. One of the trips that I went
- 4:20Speaker 1: back to Cuba, I wanted to take the kids, some
- 4:22Speaker 1: of the kids from there, to go fishing. I love fishing.
- 4:26Speaker 1: So I went in and try to rent a boat
- 4:29Speaker 1: and they told me we can't. We don't rambows to
- 4:32Speaker 1: Cuban people. And I said, you may leave. And I said, look,
- 4:36Speaker 1: I have a passport, I have a fly. Little Friday
- 4:39Speaker 1: already left, so I'm coming in to take my family
- 4:42Speaker 1: on a boat run. We can't give it to you.
- 4:45Speaker 1: We can't rent you a boat. You're you're Cuban. So
- 4:50Speaker 1: because she can't rent a boat because she's Cuban, even
- 4:56Speaker 1: though she's an American citizen. Now, yes, you're a Cuban.
- 5:00Speaker 1: So you can't do it. That there was a boat
- 5:02Speaker 1: in the river that my niece wanted to go in.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And when we get in, to ride the boat with
- 5:10Speaker 1: the rest of the people, and say, y'all cannot get in.
- 5:13Speaker 1: You'll like Cuban, And I said, but we're paying with
- 5:15Speaker 1: the same money that they're paying. Well, I'm sorry, you
- 5:18Speaker 1: can't come in. You're not from another country. You're a Cuban,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and Cuban people are not allowed. They're not allowed to
- 5:24Speaker 1: leave because they know if they were allowed to leave,
- 5:27Speaker 1: they'd all live. Sona. How quickly after, as you say,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you know, people liked Castro initially they he was promising
- 5:36Speaker 1: in the world. How quickly did it turn? I mean,
- 5:38Speaker 1: how quickly did it turn? Right away? Right away? He
- 5:42Speaker 1: immediately starts saying the policies that he wanted to do.
- 5:46Speaker 1: He was going to take tents away from the ridge.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He was going to take tents away from the people
- 5:51Speaker 1: to give to other He was to actually take money
- 5:55Speaker 1: from you and give it to the poors on the
- 5:57Speaker 1: other side. I make my money for what a half.
- 6:01Speaker 1: My father worked hard to be where he was. My
- 6:05Speaker 1: mother was the greatest school teacher. She was really was
- 6:09Speaker 1: proud of what she was doing. My mother itself was
- 6:12Speaker 1: told did she have to teach at the school a
- 6:15Speaker 1: different kind of curriculum. She was told she need to
- 6:18Speaker 1: teach about the revolution, cast through the regime, the things
- 6:22Speaker 1: that needed to happen. My mother have to actually pretend
- 6:26Speaker 1: that she was losing her mind and she was just
- 6:29Speaker 1: missing immediately. So let me underscore this story and listen.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I grew up hearing this story as a kid. I mean,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I would sit with my cousin Beebe, who's Sonia's daughter.
- 6:40Speaker 1: The two of us would sit literally on the floor
- 6:43Speaker 1: in the living room and listen to my dad and
- 6:44Speaker 1: Mythasonia tell us stories about the revolution, and my Abuela
- 6:48Speaker 1: and Abuela, their parents were there also. So my grandmother, Abuela,
- 6:53Speaker 1: she's a sixth grade teacher. Castro takes over and she's ordered,
- 6:57Speaker 1: you must teach Communism to the kids. You must indoctrinate,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you must brainwash the kids. And my grandmother said she
- 7:04Speaker 1: wasn't going to do it. And so it's funny, Mathiason,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you mentioned something just very mild, but my grandmother pretended
- 7:11Speaker 1: she was insane in the classroom. She began literally foaming
- 7:15Speaker 1: at the mouth and pretending she was insane. Why because
- 7:18Speaker 1: she couldn't quit in the communist dictatorship. See, she wasn't
- 7:21Speaker 1: allowed to quit, and she made the decision she would
- 7:24Speaker 1: rather have the stigma, have the shame of people thinking
- 7:28Speaker 1: she was a crazy person, right then be a part
- 7:31Speaker 1: of indoctrinating these kids. That is true, and it was
- 7:34Speaker 1: very painful because my mother was a great teutory was
- 7:37Speaker 1: loved by many people, but she had to play crazy
- 7:41Speaker 1: in order to get out of that s What I
- 7:43Speaker 1: want to know is how in Cuba the public opinion
- 7:47Speaker 1: changes very quickly. People see what a monster Castro is
- 7:50Speaker 1: and they start to hate his guts. How is it
- 7:52Speaker 1: that in the United States, now, so many years on,
- 7:56Speaker 1: fifty eight years on since you left, you have a
- 8:00Speaker 1: presidential candidate, You got a US senator who's still singing
- 8:04Speaker 1: the praises of this guy. What did he miss? He
- 8:07Speaker 1: had not been with the human people. He only if
- 8:10Speaker 1: you go there as a Cuban, you go and see somebody,
- 8:14Speaker 1: a relative, you're going to see the misery that they
- 8:16Speaker 1: leave in. They don't know what to put on the
- 8:18Speaker 1: table to serve their kids, They don't know how to
- 8:21Speaker 1: get They're gonna get the food that they're going to
- 8:23Speaker 1: eat tomorrow. If you're going as somebody from another country
- 8:28Speaker 1: or a sa tourist, you're taken to you are actually
- 8:31Speaker 1: become prisoner of the government. They take you where they
- 8:35Speaker 1: want you to go. They showed you the model school,
- 8:38Speaker 1: they showed you the best hospitals, they showed you the
- 8:41Speaker 1: best restaurants. In nineteen eighty nine, Sanders stated, after visiting Cuba,
- 8:45Speaker 1: quote I did not see a hungry child. I did
- 8:49Speaker 1: not see any homeless people. Bernie said the Cuban people
- 8:53Speaker 1: quote had an almost religious affection for Castra. That is
- 8:57Speaker 1: not true. He is lying, and he's lying to the
- 9:01Speaker 1: people of this country. He is playing on the mind
- 9:03Speaker 1: of the younger generation here. He was either himself complicit
- 9:09Speaker 1: in the lie, or he was naive enough or ideological
- 9:13Speaker 1: enough to let the Castro regime lie to him and say,
- 9:16Speaker 1: look at this, this paradise. They didn't take into what
- 9:20Speaker 1: the Cuban people were. Cuban people are starving to death.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Cuban people don't have any money to buy anything. So
- 9:27Speaker 1: let me take you back there, back to fifty nine,
- 9:30Speaker 1: back to sixty the revolution succeeded, you begin fighting against Castro.
- 9:38Speaker 1: What happened to you as a result. What happened when
- 9:41Speaker 1: you start? I was constantly persecuted. Our people was looking
- 9:46Speaker 1: for me everywhere. They want to take me to prison.
- 9:50Speaker 1: They picked me up several times. So you were pretty
- 9:53Speaker 1: clearly fighting against totally against Castro. Yes, yes, son, this
- 9:57Speaker 1: is after Castro has taken over, so he's to dictate. Yes.
- 10:00Speaker 1: So what like when they picked you up? What happened?
- 10:03Speaker 1: What does that mean? Well, they they put you in
- 10:06Speaker 1: a room and there was people sitting on the floor
- 10:09Speaker 1: and everybody's you know, that's where you were, with a
- 10:12Speaker 1: whole bunch of people in the floor, and they keep
- 10:15Speaker 1: it there for two or three days. My parents did
- 10:17Speaker 1: not know where I was. My mother did not know,
- 10:20Speaker 1: so she was going crazy trying to find me. My friends,
- 10:24Speaker 1: friends that I have could not even come and find
- 10:28Speaker 1: out with my parents where was I or what was
- 10:30Speaker 1: wrong with me. They were afraid because everybody was persecuted.
- 10:35Speaker 1: So it was very difficult to leave on the Castro regime.
- 10:41Speaker 1: When you left Cube, it was sixty two. You left, right,
- 10:44Speaker 1: You've been back a bunch of times, right? Yes? What if?
- 10:47Speaker 1: So when you come back you usually bring a duffel
- 10:51Speaker 1: bag with medicine, medicine, I drink, food, clothes, cheets, just
- 10:57Speaker 1: for relatives, friends, people that need so they can't get anything, nothing, nothing.
- 11:03Speaker 1: She leaves a suitcase, she leaves every body, but she
- 11:07Speaker 1: leaves her underwear and brawl everything because nobody has underwear there.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Because there's so much poverty. You'll wear like sweatpants, a
- 11:15Speaker 1: T shirt. That's one coming right. That is correct. A
- 11:20Speaker 1: lot of people don't understand what is the difference between socialism.
- 11:24Speaker 1: That is correct. Socialism is simply the economic system of communism.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Socialism is government ownership of the means of production or distribution.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Cuba in the nineteen fifties was the world's number one
- 11:36Speaker 1: producer of sugar. Yeah, it had problems. Look, Batista was
- 11:39Speaker 1: a corrupt dictator. He was a bastard. My father to
- 11:42Speaker 1: this day doesn't have his front teeth because Batista's police
- 11:46Speaker 1: kicked them in, his guards kick his army officers kicked
- 11:49Speaker 1: them in. But what about the universal healthcare? I mean,
- 11:52Speaker 1: we're told by a lot of people in the United States,
- 11:54Speaker 1: a lot of left wingers. They say Cuba has some
- 11:57Speaker 1: of the best healthcare in the world, and everybody's covered.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I can personally, I tell you that I went to
- 12:01Speaker 1: the doctor there because I have mosquito buys that he
- 12:04Speaker 1: got into effects infection, and they put a shot on
- 12:08Speaker 1: me in front of sixty other people that were there
- 12:11Speaker 1: waiting for to being seen by a doctor. There's no transportation,
- 12:16Speaker 1: there's no gas, so you can't move. Doctors come to
- 12:19Speaker 1: a house in a bicycle and they're hungry. They're hungry
- 12:23Speaker 1: when they get there. They come to the house to
- 12:25Speaker 1: see a matter of fact, I was in a house
- 12:27Speaker 1: visiting and they were trying to see the little girl.
- 12:30Speaker 1: He came in a bicycle and I bought some things
- 12:33Speaker 1: that there was somebody in the streets selling, and he said,
- 12:37Speaker 1: kind of have one. Probably the most visible sign that
- 12:41Speaker 1: Cuba hasn't changed or hasn't progressed is they have those
- 12:44Speaker 1: old cars, right yes. And you know, people like to
- 12:46Speaker 1: think that that's sort of quaint and cute that they
- 12:48Speaker 1: have cars from the nineteen fifties. The reason they had
- 12:52Speaker 1: cars from the nineteen fifties is they can't get anything else.
- 12:54Speaker 1: You know. The scary thing about all of this is
- 12:57Speaker 1: you've got the experience of it, fifty eight years of
- 13:00Speaker 1: experience since you left Cuba. There are various studies that
- 13:03Speaker 1: have come out that show that even the majority of
- 13:07Speaker 1: young Americans, millennials and gen z now embrace socialism and
- 13:11Speaker 1: prefer it to capitalism. Now, the bright side, I will say,
- 13:14Speaker 1: the silver lining, is that a much smaller percentage can
- 13:16Speaker 1: actually define socialism. So there would seem to be a
- 13:19Speaker 1: problem there. But beyond just ignorance, beyond just not knowing
- 13:23Speaker 1: what it is, what is drawing young Americans to this evil,
- 13:28Speaker 1: evil ideology is the work that they is given out
- 13:32Speaker 1: the change. They want to see something different, they want
- 13:36Speaker 1: to try something new. It doesn't work, guys, it does
- 13:40Speaker 1: not work. All of this ambition and given it, given
- 13:45Speaker 1: it to me, there's nothing given to you. You need
- 13:48Speaker 1: to work and try to achieve your dream by hard work,
- 13:52Speaker 1: but by doing what you want to get ahead. I mean,
- 13:56Speaker 1: I've noticed this with your colleague, Senator Sanders, you know,
- 13:59Speaker 1: I mean, he's been talking about this for fifty years
- 14:01Speaker 1: and no one listened. But now only you know, now
- 14:05Speaker 1: that he's in his mid seventies. It's it's catching on.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And I even think of this absent Bernie Sanders. Forget
- 14:13Speaker 1: about him for a second. It took a long time
- 14:16Speaker 1: people knew that communism socialism were terrible for so long,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and now they don't know that well, and too often
- 14:24Speaker 1: they're not taught in schools what happened. You know, how
- 14:28Speaker 1: many Bernie supporters know that the Soviet Union killed twenty
- 14:34Speaker 1: million people and China killed seventy seven million people. They
- 14:37Speaker 1: don't know that, and so when Bernie defends it, it
- 14:41Speaker 1: seems look and I have to admit, I remember in
- 14:45Speaker 1: college a guy who lived down the hall for me
- 14:47Speaker 1: had a poster on the wall of che Guvar, Yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and I went in. I said, hey, that that's really cool.
- 14:53Speaker 1: That's all you know. Che Guvar was a guerrilla fought
- 14:54Speaker 1: with Fidel Castro in Cuba, And I said, hey, that's
- 14:57Speaker 1: really cool, that's awesome. Have you thought of maybe putting
- 15:00Speaker 1: a poster of Hitler next year and maybe Stalin and Mao,
- 15:04Speaker 1: like if you're going to celebrate people that torture and murder.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Actually Chay was. He was low on the totem pot,
- 15:11Speaker 1: but you know, he was good looking, he had stubble
- 15:14Speaker 1: and he was you know it. These villains have been
- 15:19Speaker 1: glamorized and it's it's dangerous. You know. We've talked a
- 15:24Speaker 1: lot about the political and the economic side of things,
- 15:26Speaker 1: how the government takes all your stuff and then they
- 15:28Speaker 1: take power away from you. You're both religious. I notice, Sonia,
- 15:33Speaker 1: you have a cross that you're wearing. Obviously, Senator Cruz,
- 15:39Speaker 1: one of the big aspects of communisms, it's always been practiced,
- 15:42Speaker 1: is the atheism of it all. And I wonder if
- 15:45Speaker 1: there's a relation here that, as religiosity in America's declined,
- 15:48Speaker 1: as young people are raised more or less without a religion,
- 15:51Speaker 1: if maybe that's playing some role in why communism is
- 15:54Speaker 1: catching on. You know, one of the great men of
- 15:56Speaker 1: the twentieth century to defeat communism was the Pope was
- 16:00Speaker 1: John Paul the Second, Well and and Pope John Paul
- 16:02Speaker 1: the Second played a profound role of going going to
- 16:05Speaker 1: Poland and and and and and and promising that Poland
- 16:09Speaker 1: would be free and speaking up and it was truly
- 16:11Speaker 1: I think divine providence, providence, we want God and and
- 16:15Speaker 1: and Reagan and Margaret Thatcher all at the same time.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And I think those three people, more than any human
- 16:22Speaker 1: beings on earth, defeated the Soviet Union and won the
- 16:25Speaker 1: Cold War. Mind you, Bernie was rooting for the Soviet
- 16:28Speaker 1: Union during all the rights um it's hiding that, But
- 16:33Speaker 1: it's Bernie honeymooned in the Soviet Union, Michael. Where you
- 16:39Speaker 1: honeymooned in Hawaii, USA? Okay, that's where, like normal people,
- 16:44Speaker 1: you go to the beach, you go to how do
- 16:46Speaker 1: you know which? Same times? It was beautiful, We were
- 16:48Speaker 1: walking along the beach, we had fun. What kind of
- 16:52Speaker 1: crazy idealogue? Yeah, says sweetheart, I love you so much.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Let's do a honeymoon in the Soviet Union. You know
- 16:59Speaker 1: that club you play? He says, he's no friend of Putin.
- 17:02Speaker 1: There's only one person I know on the national stage
- 17:05Speaker 1: that your honeymood. And the Soviet Union. You know, the
- 17:07Speaker 1: Soviet Union killed over twenty million people. This is not cute,
- 17:14Speaker 1: little faculty leftist. If Bernie was a professor at some
- 17:17Speaker 1: liberal arts college out in the frozen tundra, who cares,
- 17:20Speaker 1: He's just corrupting a few young minds. This is someone
- 17:23Speaker 1: who wants to be president of the United States, and
- 17:25Speaker 1: he kisses up to and apologizes for totalitarian dictators and
- 17:31Speaker 1: you know who. He doesn't praise Americans, right, Like, when
- 17:36Speaker 1: have you ever heard him speak as positively about Abraham
- 17:39Speaker 1: Lincoln as he does about Castro and Ortega and Mao
- 17:43Speaker 1: and Stalinist and communism also hates God. Yeah. If you
- 17:49Speaker 1: look at these communist regimes, they persecute faith, They persecute,
- 17:54Speaker 1: they prevent people from the beauty of the First Amendment
- 17:59Speaker 1: is it gives everyone the right to choose how to worship,
- 18:02Speaker 1: what your faith will be. You know, Bernie when he
- 18:05Speaker 1: praised China in the debate this week, somehow, when Bernie
- 18:10Speaker 1: talked about it, it's great poverty eradication. You don't have
- 18:12Speaker 1: to go back to Mao to find the torture and murder.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Right now today there are one million weakers, yeah, a
- 18:19Speaker 1: religious and ethnic minority, one million in concentration camps in
- 18:25Speaker 1: China today. Why is burning and why are leftists so
- 18:31Speaker 1: willing to praise and be proud of regimes that are
- 18:35Speaker 1: torturing and murdering people. Do you think this is part
- 18:40Speaker 1: of why they make their appeal successfully though, Because the
- 18:43Speaker 1: thing I notice so much about the socialists in America
- 18:47Speaker 1: today is they're all making these very moral arguments. It's
- 18:50Speaker 1: about human rights. It's about giving people their right to
- 18:52Speaker 1: healthcare and their right to have a lot of money.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Here's a story my grandmother told me. In the schools
- 18:59Speaker 1: you would have of Cuban soldiers come in, and this
- 19:02Speaker 1: is kindergarten, first grade, and they'd tell the children. They'd say,
- 19:07Speaker 1: close your eyes and pray to Jesus for a piece
- 19:12Speaker 1: of candy. And the kids would all do it, and
- 19:15Speaker 1: they'd open their eyes and there'd be no candy. And
- 19:18Speaker 1: then the soldiers would say, close your eyes and pray
- 19:21Speaker 1: to Fidel Castro for a piece of candy. You're kidding me,
- 19:25Speaker 1: And the kids would close their eyes and the soldiers
- 19:27Speaker 1: would put candy on their desks, and they'd open their
- 19:30Speaker 1: eyes and there was candy. This is the literacy program,
- 19:34Speaker 1: Bernie Sanders. It is praising. This is this is the
- 19:38Speaker 1: indoctrination that Miabuela refused to participate in. And that is true.
- 19:43Speaker 1: They are actually inductrinating the people since they were tiny
- 19:50Speaker 1: little kids. Did it work? I mean, the course she
- 19:52Speaker 1: doesn't work. It does people? What don't they work? They
- 19:57Speaker 1: don't work. Nobody want to work in Cuba. What do
- 20:00Speaker 1: they want to work? They're gonna make the same money
- 20:03Speaker 1: that you're making that he's making. What do I want
- 20:06Speaker 1: to do that? But do they believe the theory? I mean,
- 20:08Speaker 1: does the indoctrination end up persuading purely. They thought that
- 20:12Speaker 1: it was going to be reality. They really blind them
- 20:16Speaker 1: to believe what they were saying. But they immediately took
- 20:20Speaker 1: the blind off. I'm saying, everybody's in the same boat.
- 20:24Speaker 1: We're all hungry. They know they're hungry, they know they're poor,
- 20:27Speaker 1: they know miserable, they know that has him. That's right.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I mean, there's a reason people every day risk their
- 20:34Speaker 1: lives to fleet Cuba. That's correct. You know. You know
- 20:37Speaker 1: Reagan the height of the Cold War, he had a
- 20:39Speaker 1: great way of putting it. He said, the thing liberals
- 20:41Speaker 1: never seemed to notice is on the Berlin Wall, the
- 20:45Speaker 1: machine guns all point in one direction. That you didn't
- 20:48Speaker 1: get anyone from East Germany saying or from West Germany
- 20:52Speaker 1: saying I gotta go live in that communist paradise. Right.
- 20:56Speaker 1: The way I like to put it is a Cuban American.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Is the thing liberals ever notice is in Cuba, the
- 21:02Speaker 1: rafts are all going one way. Just once. I'd like
- 21:04Speaker 1: to see Bernie Sanders go hop on a raft in
- 21:06Speaker 1: Key West. Yeah. And by the way, he had a
- 21:10Speaker 1: lot of racialized medicine. They there. It's just you can't
- 21:14Speaker 1: get you can't actually see a doctor you can't get medicine.
- 21:17Speaker 1: You you can't get toilet paper. Yeah. Well, actually, you know,
- 21:21Speaker 1: tying in all of these points on the economic, on
- 21:24Speaker 1: the political, and on the religious, Communism has been called
- 21:27Speaker 1: the God that failed, right. It was a sort of
- 21:30Speaker 1: substitute religion, aus substitute god, and it failed, and you
- 21:33Speaker 1: saw it fail personally. What was the what was the
- 21:40Speaker 1: biggest shock, I mean, what was the biggest despair, the
- 21:45Speaker 1: biggest regret when when you saw something that you had
- 21:47Speaker 1: believed in fail. Well, the the biggest it was seeing
- 21:54Speaker 1: the people suffering for not being able to even get
- 21:58Speaker 1: food to put a They played so basic, the basic
- 22:02Speaker 1: thins that no, don't being able to work, because why
- 22:07Speaker 1: do you want to work when you don't have anything
- 22:08Speaker 1: to buy with? You know that money disappear from you immediately,
- 22:14Speaker 1: and you all know the numbers, but you know an
- 22:16Speaker 1: average person make thirty dollars a month, thirty dollars per
- 22:21Speaker 1: thirty dollars per month. Wow, so what are you going
- 22:24Speaker 1: to do with that? Right? So, people are being drinking water.
- 22:31Speaker 1: You see the kids they dink water with sugar to
- 22:35Speaker 1: get their stomach. Fool. It's it's that that basic need.
- 22:39Speaker 1: It's so interesting that you say that, because it's communism
- 22:41Speaker 1: starts at as this idealistic fantasy, very high falutin, very
- 22:46Speaker 1: high minded literacy programs, all that, and then the reality
- 22:49Speaker 1: of the failures, people can't even fill their stomach. That
- 22:52Speaker 1: is true, although you know there is one exception, which
- 22:54Speaker 1: is the Communist Party rulers look Fidel Castro lived like
- 22:58Speaker 1: a billionaire. By the way, Putin lives like a billionaire.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Maduro and Hugo Chabez before him, they live like billionaires. Right,
- 23:07Speaker 1: Communism when you have all the power at the top,
- 23:10Speaker 1: and and and what does Bernie suggest it would be
- 23:14Speaker 1: any different if the government is in charge of everything
- 23:17Speaker 1: every place that has happened, the rulers live like kings,
- 23:22Speaker 1: and everyone else's is miserable. Right. Well, we did actually
- 23:26Speaker 1: get one mail bad question that I think is very
- 23:28Speaker 1: much on this topic, which is with the Democratic Party
- 23:32Speaker 1: veering so far to the left of embracing these absolutely
- 23:36Speaker 1: disgusting positions, hopefully we'll turn off most of the American people.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Should conservatives be happy? Should conservatives be happy that the
- 23:43Speaker 1: God that failed is about to fail? The Democratic Party?
- 23:46Speaker 1: Not necessarily You're not as as complacent. I understand people saying, Okay, great,
- 23:51Speaker 1: Bernie's so extreme that means Trump will get reelected. I
- 23:54Speaker 1: hope Trump gets re elected. I'm working hard to reelect
- 23:57Speaker 1: the president. But listen, what is truly terrifying is I
- 24:03Speaker 1: think the American people could elect a wild eyed socialist. Yeah,
- 24:07Speaker 1: the media. We're a divided country. If one hundred thousand
- 24:10Speaker 1: votes had flipped in twenty sixteen, Hillary Clinton would be
- 24:14Speaker 1: the president right now. And Bernie, the media treats him
- 24:17Speaker 1: kind of like your crazy uncle. Oh, he's just the
- 24:20Speaker 1: crazy uncle. Hadn't that cute? He's praising, murdering, torturing communist dictators. Well,
- 24:27Speaker 1: this guy believes this stuff in his heart and soul.
- 24:32Speaker 1: He believes that his whole life has been dedicated to it.
- 24:35Speaker 1: And and and I got to admit, I am it's
- 24:42Speaker 1: all fine and good to celebrate unless he ends up when,
- 24:46Speaker 1: Oh God help the direction this country goes. If that happens, well,
- 24:49Speaker 1: because you already fled one communist hellhole. And this was
- 24:54Speaker 1: the great hope as America is the great to go.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Where do you go there after? The place to go? Well,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I hope you won't go anywhere you the listener, we've
- 25:03Speaker 1: already used up more than our time, and we've taken
- 25:06Speaker 1: up too much of your time, Tisania, But thank you
- 25:08Speaker 1: so much for being here, and we've got a lot
- 25:10Speaker 1: more coming up on the show anyway, so be sure
- 25:13Speaker 1: not to flee anywhere. I'm Michael Knowles. This is Verdict
- 25:17Speaker 1: with Ted Cruz. This episode of Verdict with Ted Cruz
- 25:28Speaker 1: is being brought to you by Jobs, Freedom and Security Pack,
- 25:31Speaker 1: a political action committee dedicated to supporting conservative causes, organizations,
- 25:36Speaker 1: and candidates across the country. In twenty twenty two, Jobs
- 25:40Speaker 1: Freedom and Security Pack plans to donate to conservative candidates
- 25:43Speaker 1: running for Congress and help the Republican Party across the nation.
