- 0:00John chapter 6. After these things Jesus went
- 0:03away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee or Tiberius.
- 0:06A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs which
- 0:09he was performing on those who were sick.
- 0:11Then Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down
- 0:14with his disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of
- 0:16the Jews, was near. Therefore Jesus, lifting up his
- 0:19eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to him, said to
- 0:21Philip, Where are we to buy bread so that these may eat?
- 0:26This he was saying to test Him, for He Himself knew what he was
- 0:28intending to do. Philip answered him, 200 denarii
- 0:32worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for everyone to
- 0:35receive a little. One of his disciples, Andrew,
- 0:38Simon Peter's brother, said to him, There is a lad here who has
- 0:41five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these for so many
- 0:45people? Jesus said, have the people sit
- 0:47down. Now there was much grass in this
- 0:50place, so the men sat down in number about 5000.
- 0:54Jesus then took the loaves, and having given thanks, He
- 0:56distributed to those who were seated likewise also of the
- 0:59fish, as much as they wanted. When they were filled, he said
- 1:03to the disciples, Gather up the leftover fragments so that
- 1:06nothing will be lost. So they gathered them up and
- 1:09filled 12 baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that
- 1:12were leftover by those who had not eaten.
- 1:15Therefore, when the people saw the sign which he had performed,
- 1:17they said, this is truly the prophet who is coming to the
- 1:20world. So Jesus, perceiving that they
- 1:23were intending to come and take him by force to make him king,
- 1:26withdrew again to the mountain by himself alone.
- 1:29Now when evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
- 1:32and after getting into a boat, they started to cross the sea to
- 1:34Capernaum. It had already become dark, and
- 1:37Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea began to be stirred up
- 1:40because a strong wind was blowing.
- 1:42Then when they had rowed about 3 or 4 miles, they saw Jesus
- 1:45walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat, and they were
- 1:48frightened. But he said to them, It is I do
- 1:50not be afraid. So they were willing to receive
- 1:53him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the
- 1:55land to which they were going. The next day the crowd that
- 1:58stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other
- 2:01small boat there except one, and that Jesus had not entered with
- 2:04His disciples into the boat, but that his disciples had gone away
- 2:07alone. There came other small boats
- 2:09from Tiberius near to the place where they ate the bread after
- 2:12the Lord had given thanks. So when the crowd saw that Jesus
- 2:15was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got
- 2:18into the small boats and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus.
- 2:22When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to
- 2:24him, Rabbi, when did you get here?
- 2:27Jesus answered them and said, Truly, truly.
- 2:29I say to you, You seek me, not because you saw signs, but
- 2:33because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
- 2:35Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which
- 2:38endures to eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you.
- 2:42For on him the Father God has set his seal.
- 2:45Therefore they said to him, What shall we do so that we may work
- 2:49the works of God? Jesus answered and said to them,
- 2:52This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has
- 2:55sent. So they said to him, What then
- 2:59do you do for a sign so that we may see and believe you?
- 3:02What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the
- 3:05wilderness as it is written. He gave them bread out of heaven
- 3:08to eat. Jesus then said to them, Truly,
- 3:11truly. I say to you, It is not Moses
- 3:14who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is my Father
- 3:17who gives you the true bread out of heaven.
- 3:19For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven
- 3:22and gives life to the world. Then they said to him, Lord,
- 3:25always give us this bread. Jesus said to them, I am the
- 3:29bread of life. He who comes to me will not
- 3:32hunger, and he who believes in me will never thirst.
- 3:35But I said to you that you have seen me, and yet do not believe.
- 3:39All that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who
- 3:42comes to me I will certainly not cast out.
- 3:45For I have come down from heaven not to do my own will, but the
- 3:48will of him who sent me. This is the will of him who sent
- 3:51me, that of all that He has given me I lose nothing, but I
- 3:55raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my
- 3:58Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in
- 4:01Him will have eternal life, and I myself will raise him up on
- 4:05the last day. Therefore the Jews were
- 4:07grumbling about him, because he said, I am the bread that came
- 4:10down out of heaven. They were saying, is not this
- 4:13Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?
- 4:17How does he now say, I have come down out of heaven?
- 4:20Jesus answered and said to them, Do not grumble among yourselves,
- 4:24No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him,
- 4:27and I will raise him up on the last day.
- 4:30It is written in the prophets, and they shall all be taught by
- 4:32God. Everyone who has heard and
- 4:35learned from the Father comes to me.
- 4:37Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is
- 4:39from God. He has seen the Father truly,
- 4:42truly. I say to you, he who believes
- 4:44has eternal life. I am the bread of life.
- 4:47Your Father's ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
- 4:50This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one
- 4:53may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came
- 4:56down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he
- 4:59will live forever. The bread also, which I will
- 5:02give for the life of the world is my flesh.
- 5:05Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, How
- 5:07can this man give us his flesh to eat?
- 5:10So Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you
- 5:13eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no
- 5:16life in yourselves. He who eats my flesh and drinks
- 5:19my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last
- 5:23day, for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
- 5:26He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in
- 5:30Him. As the living Father sent me,
- 5:33and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me, He
- 5:36also will live because of me. This is the bread which came
- 5:39down out of heaven, not as the fathers ate and died.
- 5:43He who eats this bread will live forever.
- 5:46These things He said in the synagogue, as He taught in
- 5:48Capernaum. Therefore many of His disciples,
- 5:50when they heard this, said. This is a difficult statement,
- 5:54who can listen to it? But Jesus, conscious that His
- 5:57disciples grumbled at this, said to them, Does this cause you to
- 6:00stumble? What then if you see the Son of
- 6:02Man ascending to where He was before?
- 6:05It is the Spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing.
- 6:08The words that I have spoken to you are Spirit and our life.
- 6:12But there are some of you who do not believe.
- 6:14For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did
- 6:17not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.
- 6:20And he was saying, For this reason I have said to you that
- 6:23no one can come to me unless it has been granted him from the
- 6:25Father. As a result of this, many of his
- 6:28disciples withdrew and were not walking with him any more.
- 6:31So Jesus said to the 12 You do not want to go away also, do
- 6:35you? Simon Peter answered him, Lord,
- 6:37to whom shall we go? Lord, to whom shall we go?
- 6:41You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come
- 6:44to know that you are the Holy One of God.
- 6:47Jesus answered them. Did I myself not choose you the
- 6:5012 And yet one of you is a devil.
- 6:53Now he meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of
- 6:56the 12, was going to betray him.
