- 1:24Speaker 1: I see him all the time. We never had time
- 1:26Speaker 1: to talk, but every time we talk, we look at
- 1:29Speaker 1: each other like we've been friends all out lives. My
- 1:32Speaker 1: next guest is a successful actor. Let me put that
- 1:34Speaker 1: at the top. Producer and director from I've Been to
- 1:38Speaker 1: This City, Clinton, South Carolina, from comedy shows, the recent
- 1:42Speaker 1: work movie TV shows, uh, the Modern Reboot. He's on
- 1:45Speaker 1: the show to talk about all of these things, but
- 1:47Speaker 1: more importantly, the new anti bully movie he directed entitled
- 1:51Speaker 1: Misguided Behavior. Please work with the money making conversation call
- 1:55Speaker 1: Anthony Payne and Hey col Man. Uh. First of all,
- 2:07Speaker 1: you know, congratulations own everything that you accomplish, but the
- 2:11Speaker 1: reason I want to congratulation and say great things about
- 2:14Speaker 1: you because you know, you do the big projects. But
- 2:16Speaker 1: I always know that that it's important that you do
- 2:19Speaker 1: independent projects. Why isn't that so important to you? Because man,
- 2:24Speaker 1: it's it's uh, well, first of all, just how creative
- 2:28Speaker 1: you're able to be, you know, um, within within those
- 2:31Speaker 1: uh so called boundaries, um, because there really aren't any,
- 2:36Speaker 1: right and and um it's also it's about the work,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know. You know when when it's an independent project,
- 2:45Speaker 1: most of the time there's not a lot of money involved,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and uh, you know, I love what I do. So
- 2:51Speaker 1: it's about the art. It's about the art of it
- 2:53Speaker 1: and the story that you're trying to tell, you know, um,
- 2:57Speaker 1: or just being a part of something that that is
- 2:58Speaker 1: bigger than just what's on the paper, you know. It's
- 3:02Speaker 1: it's really interesting when I when I look at your
- 3:04Speaker 1: career and I look at the characters you play, you know,
- 3:07Speaker 1: how it is how difficult is it to go from
- 3:09Speaker 1: drama the comedy or comedy the drama? Is that just
- 3:13Speaker 1: is that something natural you are, This something that you've
- 3:16Speaker 1: you've you've you wanted to do in your resume. Man,
- 3:20Speaker 1: it's it's it's supernatural. It's supernatural because it's like I
- 3:23Speaker 1: think about, man, every day is drama, but you gotta laugh.
- 3:27Speaker 1: You gotta laugh at it, you know, and I think, uh,
- 3:31Speaker 1: you know, um to answer your question a little better, man,
- 3:34Speaker 1: I started off doing drama first, you know, I want
- 3:37Speaker 1: to uh High School of Performing Arts in New York,
- 3:40Speaker 1: which is now called LaGuardia. You know, I really got
- 3:43Speaker 1: accepted the Juilliard that chose to go to Howard University.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Everything started off with more drama anyway. Comedy is just
- 3:51Speaker 1: something that I just happened to be good at, I
- 3:54Speaker 1: guess and and and made a living doing that as well.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So it's it's it's not it's not hard to go
- 4:00Speaker 1: back and forth at all, you know, because again we
- 4:03Speaker 1: deal with enough drama to be able to laugh about it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: You know. I love talking to talent people. They make
- 4:08Speaker 1: it seem like you knows no big deal, you know,
- 4:10Speaker 1: back and forth. You know I'm talking about you know
- 4:15Speaker 1: what I'm talking you know this show comedy. Comedy is
- 4:18Speaker 1: definitely harder, you know, it's definitely because because because it's
- 4:23Speaker 1: about timing, it's right, right, I mean, and it's one
- 4:26Speaker 1: of those things where you can't teach that. You know
- 4:29Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I mean, you can, you can, but
- 4:32Speaker 1: it's it's if it's natural and and you know, it's
- 4:36Speaker 1: just this is one of those things that makes it happen. Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 1: So now let's talk about the movie Misguided Behavior. Uh.
- 4:47Speaker 1: First of all, he's very drama dramatic in this movie. Okay,
- 4:51Speaker 1: um um. But also you you you went behind the lens,
- 4:55Speaker 1: you know how difficulty. Let's let's talk about the movie
- 4:58Speaker 1: just how everybody move. This is a movie that I'm
- 5:00Speaker 1: I'm blessed to be an executive producer in the movie.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It's an anti bullet movie. It's about the typical situation
- 5:05Speaker 1: that he's a young man who's being bullied and he
- 5:08Speaker 1: has to add he lives in a lifestyle that you say,
- 5:10Speaker 1: why is he underrass? Why is he not? In fact,
- 5:13Speaker 1: where was his parents? Where his parents were always always
- 5:15Speaker 1: there for this young man. Father was in a little
- 5:18Speaker 1: bit of denial about what was going on. Mother was
- 5:21Speaker 1: overly concerned. So you had a confidict right there. You
- 5:24Speaker 1: had to over the concerned mom and the dad said
- 5:27Speaker 1: be a man, be a man, be a man. But
- 5:30Speaker 1: neither one of the parents was listening to the young
- 5:32Speaker 1: man's emotional pain. And that's what this movie is about. Uh,
- 5:37Speaker 1: I throw it back to you. I wanted to just
- 5:38Speaker 1: set it up for your call, because it's really a
- 5:40Speaker 1: movie that more and more people should be aware of
- 5:43Speaker 1: and parents should exposed and teachers should expose these young
- 5:48Speaker 1: adults to this movie, right right. I mean that was
- 5:51Speaker 1: the thing that drew me to it, the story of
- 5:54Speaker 1: it all. As a matter of fact, once I started
- 5:57Speaker 1: doing the film, you know, I it hit home even
- 6:01Speaker 1: more so because my my son, my youngest son, was
- 6:05Speaker 1: actually going through that and I didn't even know it.
- 6:08Speaker 1: You know, he was actually, you know, the same thing
- 6:11Speaker 1: was happening right at home and I did not even
- 6:13Speaker 1: know it. And you know, we have to stop. We
- 6:17Speaker 1: have to first of all. First of all, everything starts
- 6:19Speaker 1: in the home. Everything starts at home, you know. And yes,
- 6:21Speaker 1: we have to hold ourselves as well as the teachers
- 6:23Speaker 1: who we leave our children with for the majority of
- 6:26Speaker 1: the day, the same thing, you know, And so we
- 6:30Speaker 1: have to have these dialogues. I have to have these conversations.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Then we have to be able to recognize things that
- 6:35Speaker 1: that are unsaid, because that's because sometimes it's too late
- 6:39Speaker 1: whether it's because someone has you know, taken their own
- 6:42Speaker 1: life tragically or by taking someone else's lives. You know,
- 6:46Speaker 1: I'm saying, we see that happen all the time, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and so it's about recognizing, uh, this this particular epidemic
- 6:54Speaker 1: before it gets out of control, and then having solutions
- 6:57Speaker 1: and ways of dealing with it. So I just thought
- 7:01Speaker 1: it was very important to tell this story so that
- 7:03Speaker 1: we can kind of bring awareness to to what's what's
- 7:08Speaker 1: really going on. And you know that it's important. It's
- 7:11Speaker 1: important to you to to say that because of the fact
- 7:13Speaker 1: that a bullying is not something you just started last
- 7:16Speaker 1: week or last year or five years ago. It just
- 7:19Speaker 1: keeps it, just keep getting more technology technically friendly, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: you can access it's his issue is issue. So when
- 7:28Speaker 1: I was younger, right, I mean, I think we may
- 7:29Speaker 1: have all gone through some some of this, you know,
- 7:32Speaker 1: but we cut from a different cloth. This is a
- 7:33Speaker 1: different day of time. Let's just keep it behind it.
- 7:35Speaker 1: It's a different day of time, you know, said I
- 7:37Speaker 1: grew up in the age where I had to go
- 7:38Speaker 1: outside the play you know, saying that there was no tech.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You know, what's't all this technology? And if I got bullied.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It stayed right there. It didn't follow me for you know,
- 7:46Speaker 1: give out the universe like it does on the internet.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You know, it didn't live where everybody could see it
- 7:52Speaker 1: over and over, you know, a million times a day.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So that's that's a huge difference right there alone, you
- 7:59Speaker 1: know what I mean. It's one thing when you've got
- 8:01Speaker 1: a small three people you know, who are witnessed or something,
- 8:05Speaker 1: and then you have to deal with that versus millions
- 8:08Speaker 1: of people. That's so true. That's so true. There's a
- 8:12Speaker 1: huge difference, you know what I'm saying, um and and uh,
- 8:17Speaker 1: you know so again, you know, when I was younger
- 8:21Speaker 1: and it happened to me, it was one of those
- 8:22Speaker 1: things that you know, it kind of shames your character.
- 8:25Speaker 1: It does, because you either stand up to the bully,
- 8:27Speaker 1: you know, or you're looking for help and support from
- 8:30Speaker 1: the people around you who you know, to help defend
- 8:33Speaker 1: you in those situations. Now, your character in the in
- 8:37Speaker 1: the in the movie, I won't expose too much of it,
- 8:39Speaker 1: because it's definitely The movie is called Misguided Behavior is
- 8:43Speaker 1: directed by the incredible called Pain and the movie your
- 8:47Speaker 1: character is a very tortured soul in the movie and
- 8:51Speaker 1: it's a major role. Absolutely most most of times people
- 8:57Speaker 1: don't understand that the bullying starts sometimes at home with
- 9:02Speaker 1: an older sibling or a parent who is verbally, mentally,
- 9:10Speaker 1: physically abusing, you know, abusing the child, and then you
- 9:14Speaker 1: know that that carries on on over into the child
- 9:18Speaker 1: at coming then as well or having to deal with
- 9:20Speaker 1: that lashing out. Um so yeah, yeah, but it's it's
- 9:25Speaker 1: it's just dysfunction, that's just count You know that we
- 9:30Speaker 1: soil we have had to deal with for generations that
- 9:33Speaker 1: we've never dealt with the problem, never metter you this
- 9:35Speaker 1: when you found out your son, like my daughter I was,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I found out she was being bullied in school and
- 9:41Speaker 1: you know, my three young boys, you know that my
- 9:44Speaker 1: son was being my son was being bullied by a girl.
- 9:48Speaker 1: The stigma there, the stigma there. It was like he
- 9:50Speaker 1: didn't want to He definitely didn't want to tell me that,
- 9:53Speaker 1: you know, and it's not but it's not because you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: because we do we kind of we kind of put
- 9:58Speaker 1: that machines out there, you know, indirectly, you know what
- 10:01Speaker 1: I'm saying, But he definitely didn't want to tell me that,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and do not want to tell me that it is
- 10:06Speaker 1: a certain shame about any level. I could say. You
- 10:09Speaker 1: know that the thing about it when you look at
- 10:10Speaker 1: the individual like you and that like success. You know
- 10:13Speaker 1: your your your own point as a parent. But like
- 10:16Speaker 1: I said, I'm own point as a parent. And then
- 10:18Speaker 1: I realized that my daughter for weeks or maybe months,
- 10:21Speaker 1: has been terrorized at school. You go to school and
- 10:24Speaker 1: you go, Okay, how is this happening? And they don't
- 10:28Speaker 1: have a response. They don't have a response. And so
- 10:31Speaker 1: so right there, if you're the one, they don't have
- 10:33Speaker 1: the proper training to deal with it, they don't have
- 10:35Speaker 1: the properties in place to those kind of situations. And
- 10:39Speaker 1: they do, they definitely just put a band aid on it.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And that's the whole thing. So so the project we
- 10:44Speaker 1: brought to you by our good friend Sharon Tomlinson, uh
- 10:47Speaker 1: really talented independent movie producer and director herself. And so
- 10:52Speaker 1: so you have the other set aside of time to
- 10:55Speaker 1: do this project. How do you with your schedule blockout
- 10:58Speaker 1: time to do an independent at that? Call? Very careful, No,
- 11:07Speaker 1: it's listen, you want to I'll be totally honest with you.
- 11:10Speaker 1: She knows it, she'll attest to this. We set out
- 11:15Speaker 1: of trying to do this and I said okay, and
- 11:18Speaker 1: literally literally the day we wrapped, the day we wrapped,
- 11:23Speaker 1: the very next day, I was on a plane to
- 11:25Speaker 1: go shoot the movie in South Africa. It was like
- 11:28Speaker 1: I didn't have one the moment to breathe, not one,
- 11:32Speaker 1: not one. But I welcomed the experience, the challenged all
- 11:37Speaker 1: of it, you know what I mean. Um, And it's
- 11:41Speaker 1: just important, you know, Like I said, it was important.
- 11:43Speaker 1: So it's important to me because when I was exposed
- 11:45Speaker 1: to the movie in Las Vegas for the very first
- 11:48Speaker 1: time and watching grown people cry and young teenagers confess
- 11:53Speaker 1: about us. And I think that's the big thing that
- 11:55Speaker 1: comes out of this movie is that it will open
- 11:57Speaker 1: up young people to say there is a problem, and
- 12:00Speaker 1: we'll talk about the problem, because so many times projects
- 12:04Speaker 1: out there so unrelatable to them, are too extreme to
- 12:07Speaker 1: them that they can't talk and call for you to
- 12:09Speaker 1: come on and as you say, you know, it's Indy,
- 12:12Speaker 1: you blocked at your time you came on board and
- 12:15Speaker 1: misguided behaviors. The movie that we all should be going
- 12:17Speaker 1: out to watch. The big push start this week. UM,
- 12:21Speaker 1: call anything you know, you know, it's interesting. Yeah, it's
- 12:25Speaker 1: a couple of things. One of the things that I
- 12:26Speaker 1: felt was so so the something my son that was
- 12:29Speaker 1: being bullied. He has a cameo in the movie, right,
- 12:32Speaker 1: he's a young young actor. And then my other son, Malick,
- 12:37Speaker 1: actually plays the bully in the movie. Right. It was real, Yeah, yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 1: it was. It was great being able to just work
- 12:45Speaker 1: with my sons so closely too, and hold that thought.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna bring you right back. Call hold that thought
- 12:50Speaker 1: right back out of the commercial break just for Sean
- 12:54Speaker 1: McDonald on the phone. Is called Anthony Pain. He's the
- 12:56Speaker 1: director of the new movie A Misguided Behavior is an
- 12:59Speaker 1: anti bully movie where a team is being terrorized, and
- 13:03Speaker 1: he has great parents. You would think that great parents
- 13:06Speaker 1: would recognize these issues, but like all situations, you don't know,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and sometimes your child will not communicate the problem because
- 13:12Speaker 1: guess what, they don't know how to communicate the problem.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So I'll call you. Was about to wrap up a
- 13:16Speaker 1: couple of statements before I was yes, I'm sorry, Yeah,
- 13:20Speaker 1: I know you gotta get I gotta get out of
- 13:22Speaker 1: here as well, But I just wanted to say it
- 13:24Speaker 1: was just a great experience overall. Um and and me
- 13:28Speaker 1: actually working on the project, like I said, brought a
- 13:30Speaker 1: lot of things to like within my own home as well,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and me working very closely with my sons was one
- 13:35Speaker 1: of the best experiences ever, just bonding with them over
- 13:39Speaker 1: the summer in Las Vegas. So that's uh, yeah, that's
- 13:43Speaker 1: I just wanted to add that Suns a fantastic actor,
- 13:46Speaker 1: by the way, fantastic actor, fantastic Thank you man, Frank.
- 13:51Speaker 1: And again he just he just like you. He has
- 13:52Speaker 1: those levels, those levels, those different levels of being able
- 13:55Speaker 1: to be. And now I think that's a gift that
- 13:56Speaker 1: you've passed onto your son. Well, I'm trying to pass
- 14:00Speaker 1: on the work ethic gift the next gift because you
- 14:04Speaker 1: know this generation board, they feel it tighter, its win.
- 14:09Speaker 1: They want to dare the to them. So I got
- 14:11Speaker 1: trying to work that one on too. Man. I appreciate
- 14:14Speaker 1: you getting on the call and go do what you
- 14:16Speaker 1: gotta do. Okay, yes, sir, yes, sir. I mean Chicago
- 14:20Speaker 1: shooting this Christmas film right now. But you know we
- 14:23Speaker 1: could be putting the gang back together. So we're about
- 14:25Speaker 1: to bring um about. You know, we're about to bring
- 14:27Speaker 1: that funny man. But you know everybody's been asking about
- 14:30Speaker 1: this reboot, so that's another interview. That's you know, I
- 14:33Speaker 1: know about that. That's another interview that I'm gonna bring
- 14:36Speaker 1: a couple of all on my show side moortainous you
- 14:38Speaker 1: talk about that? So now, no, that's I'm bringing you
- 14:40Speaker 1: back for that one on that one call. Okay, all right,
- 14:43Speaker 1: stay strong man and stay warm in Chicago. Oh yeah,
- 14:46Speaker 1: for sure, it's cold out here right. Listening makes us smarter,
