- 0:00The B -Side in boxing. B -Side shit. B -Side.
- 0:04B -Side. And the B -Side. Don't brag about taking
- 0:06my side piece! Don't brag about taking my side
- 0:08piece! The B -Side thing. This is the B -Sides
- 0:11Boxing Podcast. I left with his belt and his
- 0:14girl. Hey, as I'm sure you've noticed by now,
- 0:23Shanada's not on the main show and two other
- 0:26people have come into play. This wasn't like
- 0:29a conflict or anything. It's just a scheduling
- 0:31problem. And we decided to resolve that problem
- 0:34by having Shanada be the co -panel on a show
- 0:39of her own. And this is where we're at. So this
- 0:42is a little bit more freeform, less... in the
- 0:45news i guess like or in the fights that just
- 0:48happen unless it's like a major event but it's
- 0:52just flowing conversation so you'll get to hear
- 0:56that whenever we get on to chat uh i don't have
- 0:59like a formal introduction the same way i do
- 1:01with b -sides so instead i'm just going to drop
- 1:05you into the conversation right where it begins
- 1:07now is it in that chair space thing yes And where
- 1:15would I find said document? If you go to Boxing
- 1:21B -Sides, it's at the root of it. My files? No.
- 1:31No. Shared files? Boxing B -Sides. Logos written.
- 1:39Side piece. Yep. Get it. What is a knee? Was
- 1:47it a knee? I've been actually throwing around,
- 1:51bouncing around some ideas for a new name. Side
- 1:55piece doesn't seem quite as good as I thought
- 1:58it would be. People aren't liking it. I thought
- 2:02it was funny. I think it's funny too, but I think
- 2:04it's like too inside. Too much of an inside joke.
- 2:08Our fans are too casual for the name. I guess,
- 2:12even when you explain it to them. Or young, maybe.
- 2:16Maybe too young. The audio is cut into the intro.
- 2:20You can hear them saying it. Right, but when
- 2:23was that? Shit, was it 2015? 2014? It's like
- 2:2810 years ago. Yeah. Some interesting ones. Extra
- 2:34rounds. corner corner talk the locker room locker
- 2:40room talk nice uh training camp uh ringside now
- 2:46ringside stories i don't know now that i'm saying
- 2:48it out loud no i don't think that one fits um
- 2:52hmm i'll have to think about it maybe yeah boxing
- 2:57overtime overtime but that's more uh i guess
- 3:01there's overtime boxing extra rounds overtime
- 3:04box yeah The after round? The deeper cut? What
- 3:14do they call the change room that the guys go
- 3:17to? Is that a locker room? Yes, locker room.
- 3:19In boxing? Dressing room or locker room? The
- 3:24aftermath? CTE? New name TBD. Yours are better.
- 3:35Yeah, yours are better. Bell to bell, the clinch,
- 3:38in the clinch. After the bell. After the bell's
- 3:43pretty good. But then it's a matter of making
- 3:46sure these aren't taken. Yeah, yeah. All the
- 3:50good ones are probably taken. People come up
- 3:52with some interesting word combinations to try
- 3:58to get out of overlapping. We'll just spell it
- 4:03wrong. oh geez z's instead of s's every time
- 4:08yeah uh so the burning question was it a knee
- 4:17it was obviously a knee yeah was it a kd should
- 4:24have been should have been so everybody's talking
- 4:27about it of course uh the pro box guys had two
- 4:31whole podcast shows about it i got the hiccups
- 4:35all of a sudden and uh they had they called people
- 4:39in from all over to discuss this i'd actually
- 4:42recommend that people go look or watch the the
- 4:47pro box one yeah everybody agrees that it should
- 4:51have been at least a point deduction a bunch
- 4:54of people are like it's a disqualification uh
- 4:58chris algieri was like well his corner came up
- 5:02the stairs with a white towel, so I thought at
- 5:06the time that they were conceding, or like throwing
- 5:09in the towel. Yeah, it's crazy. And his excuse
- 5:19that it was grease doesn't change anything. It
- 5:23doesn't make it better. You can't explain your
- 5:26way out of it. I'm of the mind. that any explanation
- 5:33is just going to make it worse. Just say, like,
- 5:36I took a knee, and that was that. Yeah, and,
- 5:41like, you can take a knee. That's fine. People
- 5:44do it all the time. But even his corner, if you
- 5:48listen, they were like, that looked like a submission,
- 5:52or whatever the wording is. Like, that looked
- 5:56like you were quitting, basically. When he turned
- 6:00his back and stuff. Turned his back. And they're
- 6:02like, you can't be doing that shit. You're not
- 6:04allowed to turn your back. It's in the fucking
- 6:06rules. You can't. So you take a knee. You turn
- 6:09your back, take a knee, run and lean halfway
- 6:13out of the ring. Your corner comes in and interacts
- 6:17with you, which is a disqualification. Yeah.
- 6:22Like, I don't know. And the ref started counting.
- 6:27He did. And then Tank told him to stop. Which
- 6:31is fucking madness. Absolutely. And the argument
- 6:35that everybody has that is 100 % correct is if
- 6:39Roach did any of these, it definitely would have
- 6:42been a point off. He probably would have just
- 6:44been disqualified. I don't know if they would
- 6:47have went as far as disqualifying him, but if
- 6:50the roles were reversed, it would 100 % have
- 6:52been a point off and definitely would have...
- 6:58The very least, a stern, very strong warning.
- 7:01Like, that is absolutely not allowed. Any other
- 7:05funny business and you're disqualified. Yeah,
- 7:08so the turning your back thing is whatever, but
- 7:12the corner coming up on the apron, I think, is
- 7:15a disqualification 85 % of the time. Yeah. Like,
- 7:21and they touched him and stuff. They can't be
- 7:24doing that. If you got shit in your eye, you
- 7:27have to wait for the ref to tell you you can
- 7:29get it. And if it was his hair, people fight
- 7:35with their hair all fucked up and bothering them
- 7:38and in their face constantly. Like, there was
- 7:41that lady whose weave kept falling out. Jesus.
- 7:46seen multiple people multiple guys get their
- 7:50hair cut in the corner yeah between rounds absolutely
- 7:53or taped up yeah but i mean like the the men
- 8:00especially tend to just go fuck it cut it off
- 8:02it's i don't know his excuse doesn't change the
- 8:10fact that it was a knockdown yes if nothing else
- 8:13if nothing else it was a knockdown You voluntarily
- 8:17took one. People take them all the time. One
- 8:21of the quote -unquote hardcore fans fucking boner
- 8:25fights, Jose Luis Castillo versus Diego Corrales.
- 8:32In that one, he took knees, he spit out his mouthpiece,
- 8:36got a point deducted for it because he needed
- 8:39the time. People take knees. It happens for whatever
- 8:44reason. yeah and if i don't even think he had
- 8:49grease in his face or in his eye because if it
- 8:54was just grease from sweating like he would have
- 8:58been wiping at it he never once wiped his eyes
- 9:01not that i saw anyway yeah i shouldn't say never
- 9:06once because somebody's gonna go back and watch
- 9:08the round and be like you lied but at the time
- 9:12he took the knee He wasn't wiping at his eyes
- 9:15multiple times. The equivalent would be if somebody
- 9:22was getting blood in their eye and just called
- 9:24a timeout so that their corner could wipe it
- 9:27off. Tim Zoo. I'm sure he would have loved to
- 9:32take a break in the middle of the round to get
- 9:34the blood wiped off. I was not a Tank fan anyways,
- 9:42but this is fucking ridiculous. Yeah, inexcusable.
- 9:45And two of the three refs gave him that round.
- 9:51Like, did you see that? Yeah, to make it worse,
- 9:54there's chatter. The WBA president, he's kind
- 10:00of spearheading it, like, this shit needs to
- 10:02get overturned. That was absolutely wrong. And
- 10:06he has as much to lose. With Tank not having
- 10:10that title, because he's a cash cow. Of course
- 10:14he's going to want Tank to be a belt holder.
- 10:17Well, and they do have video replay, right? That
- 10:20fight was in New York? I don't know if New York
- 10:22does. New York definitely does. If the fight
- 10:25was in New York, they have video replay. Like,
- 10:29what the fuck, guys? Seriously. That was round
- 10:33nine, was it? No, it was early. Seven? I think
- 10:39it was earlier than that. I'm going to check.
- 10:42You go ahead. You have like multiple rounds.
- 10:46You have 10 fucking minutes to figure it out.
- 10:51Like, I don't know. It's ridiculous. How did
- 10:55that not rear its head before is curious to me.
- 11:02I am sure New York has video replay because I've
- 11:06seen a couple times where they. called, like,
- 11:09knockdowns and then were like, oh, no punch,
- 11:12or called, you know, cuts caused by headbutts.
- 11:17You were right, it's the 9th. But still, you
- 11:21have, like, that's a lot of time to look at a
- 11:24video replay and announce it to the judges and
- 11:27the crowd. And you had eight rounds where you
- 11:33weren't having grease problems. Yeah, that's
- 11:37the other thing. Such a bullshit made -up story.
- 11:44Yeah, I'm not a fan of it either. Anyways, it
- 11:51was a knockdown and Roach won. Roach absolutely
- 11:53won the fight. That knockdown is 115 -112 justice
- 11:59for Roach. Well, it'd be even more of a swing,
- 12:04wouldn't it? If two judges gave it that round
- 12:09to Tank, it'd have to go the other way. That's
- 12:11a three -point swing on two cards. So then it'd
- 12:16be 116 -111. Yeah. Which is a fair margin. That
- 12:25is quite... He beat Tank. He definitely beat
- 12:30Tank. The world knows. The hood knows who won
- 12:35that. The whole hood knows who won that fight.
- 12:41Speaking of the whole hood knowing, Serrano Taylor
- 12:46Part 3 is officially official for July. I don't
- 12:54know how to feel about it. They were both really
- 12:58good fights. I could see why. the trilogy is
- 13:02needed but taylor's old man i've been saying
- 13:10for a while that i just want her to retire and
- 13:14be the living legend that she is like right off
- 13:17into the sunset before you're because i swear
- 13:21to god she's starting to slur her words and stuff
- 13:24everybody's like oh that's just her accent but
- 13:27i don't think it is No, I don't think it is either.
- 13:30It's getting worse. Before, what, side piece
- 13:34era time frame, like, yeah, it's her accent,
- 13:38but not anymore. Yeah, I don't know. I don't
- 13:44know how to feel about it either. They were two
- 13:46good fights. Third fight's probably going to
- 13:48be great. I said it last time and I was wrong,
- 13:51but I think Serrano's going to win. And then
- 13:54you have, what, two to one? Still? The more they
- 14:00do this, the more time between the fights, it's
- 14:04just more time that Taylor gets older, Serrano
- 14:08gets more time to figure it out. And I hope they
- 14:12do three -minute rounds. I really do. If they
- 14:16do three -minute rounds, that would be better,
- 14:19for sure. But Taylor's getting old. And it's
- 14:25not like she gassed in the last fight, but...
- 14:29Suddenly jumping to three -minute rounds when
- 14:31you're... She's got to be close to 40, isn't
- 14:33she? If she's not 40? I believe she's 38, but
- 14:36I'm not 100%. Like... Jumping to three -minute
- 14:45rounds that late in your career... I mean, if
- 14:49anybody can do it, Katie Taylor can do it, but
- 14:51it just seems like a bad idea to me. But... She
- 14:58could be, you know, one of the first women to
- 15:02do three -minute rounds for... That would be
- 15:04a title fight, right? Yeah, undisputed. Yeah.
- 15:09Yeah, and you're right. She is 38. Look at me.
- 15:13I don't know what round Tank went down in, but
- 15:16I know how old Katie Taylor is. Well done, me.
- 15:22I mean, arguably, Katie Taylor is more... important
- 15:26than tank anyways now that he's a fucking loser
- 15:30and a whiny bitch oh i got grease in my eyes
- 15:35coach come wipe it off for me this guy's beating
- 15:39me up and i don't know what to do if they rematch
- 15:44i think roach is probably going to get knocked
- 15:46out if they rematch maybe but everybody knows
- 15:52he won that first fight absolutely man the whole
- 15:59hood knows it's gonna it's gonna keep coming
- 16:02up because i'm still fucking miffed every time
- 16:06i think i'm like okay i'm gonna stop talking
- 16:08about it i'm gonna stop thinking about it and
- 16:10then less than an hour later i'm like fucking
- 16:13that was angry that was a fucking knee it was
- 16:16clearly a knee yeah god tank lost he lost Well,
- 16:24and it bugs me because what's that ref's name?
- 16:26Steve Willis. Yeah, he's usually so good. He
- 16:30is? Like, I usually like Steve Willis. He's a
- 16:33good ref. He is. And he started the count. Why
- 16:37did he stop? I remember back when I had hair,
- 16:44I remember having to deal with grease as well.
- 16:51I almost did a racism. I was talking about it
- 16:56with Alex and Josh on the proper B -sides. And
- 17:03that was something I had mentioned. I had called
- 17:06it pomade. Oh, yeah. I know pomade. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:11yeah. I was like, did you guys not use that?
- 17:13Because I... the way i grew up like i always
- 17:17had this i'm surprised if they haven't the slick
- 17:19back hair and i used it's called three flowers
- 17:22that was the pomade it's just hair grease uh
- 17:25no my my boyfriend used a different one and we
- 17:29had to drive all over to find it because it was
- 17:32not popular anymore when he was still using it
- 17:36but uh he had he went gray really really young
- 17:41and when you go gray it changes the texture and
- 17:45so he would use it almost as leave -in conditioner
- 17:47oh yeah i know exactly the type you're talking
- 17:51about i don't know any names any brand names
- 17:55but i know the type you're talking about well
- 17:58it is just pomade like it says on it pomade but
- 18:01this one has softener in it softener is not the
- 18:05right word but when we go yeah when we go rock
- 18:08climbing he'd slick back his hair so it wasn't
- 18:10in his face and then for the next like Four or
- 18:14five days, his hair would be super soft. Was
- 18:17it Dapper Dan? No. I looked all over for Dapper
- 18:22Dan. I don't think that's even a real one. It's
- 18:25not. That's from the movie. Yeah. I don't want
- 18:29pop, god damn it. I'm a Dapper Dan man. Dapper
- 18:32Dan. I'm a Dapper Dan man. I can't remember what
- 18:37it was called. That's going to bother me now.
- 18:40I also don't know how you spell pomade. I think
- 18:44it's P -O -M -A -D -E. Yeah. It'll be one of
- 18:49the top brands in Canada, I'm sure it is. Speaking
- 18:53of bothering you, the Times Square card. Are
- 18:57you familiar? Yeah, kind of. I've been trying
- 19:03my best not to pay attention. Although it sounds
- 19:06like the Discord guys are going, so that's cool.
- 19:09Yeah, might. I might go to that one as well.
- 19:13We'll see how it plays out. Old Spice makes pomade.
- 19:19It must be making a comeback. Axe makes pomade
- 19:23too. Pomade sounds fucking terrible. Yeah, it's
- 19:28not a great name, but I used to use the Axe one
- 19:30when I had longer hair. No, I can't find the
- 19:35name. It's going to bug me. I'm going to have
- 19:36to text my ex to ask him what he put in his hair.
- 19:39It starts with a B. It's in a red can. It was
- 19:44only at Walmart, but it was only at certain Walmarts,
- 19:47and the city we lived in had three Walmarts,
- 19:49so we'd have to drive around to figure out which
- 19:51one had it in stock. It was fun. Sweet Georgia
- 19:57Brown? No, that's too American. Anyways, doesn't
- 20:03matter. I will let it go. Uh -uh. We're not letting
- 20:06this go. Tuxedo Club? Maybe. Is it red? Yes.
- 20:13Maybe, but I thought it started with a B. I do
- 20:18this all the time, though. There's that. That
- 20:23might be it, actually. Yeah. It has a very dapper
- 20:26-looking man on it. Yep. Yeah. That's probably
- 20:30it. But that's as far as I'm going to go in looking
- 20:35for it. I think that's close enough. That's probably
- 20:39the stuff. Anyways, it was fucking hilarious
- 20:42because people liked it, but they never ordered
- 20:45much of it. So we'd race the three other guys
- 20:50who buy it to figure out which store it was in
- 20:54that month. Why not order directly from the shop
- 20:59then? I don't know. Because I didn't think of
- 21:03that. You drive to Walmart and you get it. Yeah,
- 21:06I guess. It's also Walmart. A trip to Walmart
- 21:09is never wasted. You always come home with something.
- 21:12Oh, coming home with something. The Times Square
- 21:16card. I'm really going to try to fit this one
- 21:20in here. Coming home with all of the mental illnesses.
- 21:24Devin Haney versus Jose Ramirez. He's moving
- 21:28up to welterweight. So that's fun. Not surprising.
- 21:32Devin Haney's always shrunk down quite a bit.
- 21:35I don't think he's going to be able to do it,
- 21:38but fuck, I would love for Jose Ramirez to win
- 21:41that one. Yeah, so his particular mental illness
- 21:44is bitchitis, so that's fun. Ryan Garcia versus
- 21:51Raleigh Romero. What is that? Two egomaniacs?
- 21:58Yeah, Garcia's got multiple things going on,
- 22:01I think. But yeah. Ego being a big part of it.
- 22:07Narcissism. And Teofimo. Teofimo's just... That
- 22:13dude's bipolar and he's got fucking problems.
- 22:18He has been trying to be normal in interviews
- 22:21lately. And it makes it worse, almost. Because
- 22:26you can see he's trying so fucking hard, and
- 22:29at some point he always fails. And the crazy
- 22:32shows. And then sometimes he gets it back together,
- 22:36and sometimes they just end the interviews. Jesus.
- 22:40He was saying some shit like, I can't be a racist
- 22:44because everyone's racist. I mean, everyone is
- 22:50a little racist. Right. But that doesn't make
- 22:53you... Not racist. It does not take away... I
- 22:58don't know. Everybody has the thoughts. That's
- 23:03like saying I can't be dying because everybody's
- 23:05dying. Some people are dying more than others.
- 23:08Right, like in the Sylvia Plath, like, oh, everyone's
- 23:12a wilting flower kind of bullshit. The inevitable
- 23:16march of time. Yeah, but, like, I'm dying in
- 23:2130 years and you're dying next week. You're a
- 23:23little more dying than I am. Right. Tio's a little
- 23:27more racist than I am. And I'm more racist than
- 23:31most people, so. I don't know, is it worse when
- 23:35it's unintentional? Like, it's just, like, ingrained
- 23:39into you and you don't even mean to? I mean,
- 23:43I think, I don't know. I think Tio feels just
- 23:47a douchebag. Yeah, I think T .O. just has some
- 23:51problems. I'm hopeful that Arnold Barbosa would
- 23:55beat him, but it's similar to Jose Ramirez. It's
- 23:57probably not going to happen. No. And I would
- 24:00fucking love for Rawley to just knock Garcia
- 24:04out. How fucking funny would that be? For Rawley
- 24:10to beat Ryan Garcia? Not even just beat him.
- 24:14I want him to knock him the fuck out. Oh, embarrass
- 24:16him? Yeah. Oof. That would be something. That
- 24:22would be amazing. I would be so happy. Oh, that's
- 24:29it. I'm sure there's more shit on there, but
- 24:31that's the triple whatever. They had one press
- 24:36conference, and I didn't watch it because I assumed
- 24:39it would just be a lot of yelling and crazy,
- 24:41but people said it was more normal than they
- 24:44were expecting. Relatively tame. No, they haven't.
- 24:49The moderator was keeping a lid on things, I
- 24:52think. They also haven't started their cycles
- 24:55since they're not in camp yet. Fair. Bitch, how
- 25:06you do this? Yeah. Speaking of cycles, Dana White
- 25:10with his new shit. With Riyadh season and TKO
- 25:18Enterprises, this joint venture. Yeah, I haven't
- 25:22particularly been following up, but so Turkey's
- 25:26putting money in UFC now? No, he's putting money
- 25:29into a boxing venture that is going to be headed
- 25:32by UFC president Dana White. Ow. Yeah. Why? Right.
- 25:40That's the question on a lot of people's minds.
- 25:42Why are you doing this? I don't get it. I'm thinking
- 25:48they want more managerial control over the fighters.
- 25:54Fuck, that would be so bad for boxing. Yes. Turning
- 25:58into a one promotion league. Yeah, I'm not too
- 26:02keen on it either. Also, Dana White is a terrible
- 26:07human being. Yes. He's quite a piece of shit.
- 26:14Actually, ha -ha, shoehorning in. One of Josh's
- 26:20articles is actually about Dana White. Yeah,
- 26:23have you mentioned on the podcast that we're
- 26:26doing written stuff now? No, I have not. This
- 26:29is the debut. Yeah, the editing is kind of fun,
- 26:35actually. He's writing really short articles,
- 26:38like one to two pages, super fast. Yeah, that's
- 26:41kind of the... the level we need to keep it at
- 26:45the attention landscape is yeah not that great
- 26:51so fair but still I thought at first when I saw
- 26:58the name why not Dana White this is me encouraging
- 27:02you beloved listener to go read it because it's
- 27:05pretty pretty good and it sounds like oh why
- 27:08not why should why not allow Dana White to have
- 27:11a shot at the at Taming the beast that is. Boxing.
- 27:16But then it comes off as. Like. This is why not
- 27:21Dana White. Why not Dana White. Because he's
- 27:24a piece of fucking garbage. Not that. There aren't.
- 27:30Pieces of fucking garbage in boxing. Yeah. Let
- 27:34me quote him here. Which is why I encourage Dana
- 27:38White. For the moment. Entering the space. He's
- 27:42not subtle. He's all of the scummiest aspects
- 27:45of the sport rolled into one person. Into one
- 27:49visually displeasing person. I do like the not
- 27:56subtle jabs mixed in the article. It was fun.
- 28:00Man. I don't think people realize how good, only
- 28:06when you compare it to UFC, that we can say...
- 28:10Like, boxers have it really good. And I really
- 28:14doubt... Compared to UFC, for sure. I sincerely
- 28:17doubt they're going to want to give up a lot
- 28:20of their autonomy for what? For what exactly?
- 28:25Prestige? For getting fucked. Yeah, the prestige
- 28:29of getting fucked by Dana White instead of getting,
- 28:33like, lubricated finger -banged by your current
- 28:36promoter. There are a couple decent promoters
- 28:44as well. Shit, I'm drawing blanks on names again.
- 28:50Is it Al Heyman that seems like an actual decent
- 28:53human being? Yeah, he's more of a manager than
- 28:56a promoter, but same, same. I don't know much
- 29:00about the business side of boxing. I just like
- 29:03watching people punch each other. Samson? I've
- 29:07yet to hear of a Samson fighter that doesn't
- 29:10like him. Yeah. I mean, the really big ones,
- 29:15it's like anything else. If you're a decent human
- 29:17being, you are never going to be the richest
- 29:19person in your field. It's just a fact. If you
- 29:23are a decent human being, you're never going
- 29:26to be a billionaire because you will give away
- 29:28money when you need no more money or stop fucking
- 29:33people for every dime if you're a decent human
- 29:36being. Yeah, you're not going to cut anyone's
- 29:38throat to advance. You're not going to step on
- 29:40people to climb higher. Yeah, and if you have
- 29:43$50 million that keep bringing in income because
- 29:48that's how money works, you don't need any more
- 29:51money. Yep. I have more money than I can spend.
- 29:56I'm happy. Maybe I could pay my workers more
- 30:00than a livable wage and a decent wage. Right.
- 30:06Or you're Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk and you're
- 30:08a terrible fucking human being and you don't
- 30:10care. Yeah. You have five minutes of break time.
- 30:16You get to decide if you're going to the bathroom
- 30:18or you're going to eat. Your shift is 12 hours
- 30:20long. Good luck. Yeah. I saw a Ragebait article
- 30:25about... How did they word it? Because it was
- 30:28the stupidest shit I've ever heard. Ethically
- 30:32encompassing or something. one of those dumb
- 30:37phrases toilets and they're the squatty potties
- 30:41like you find them sometimes here in japan where
- 30:44it's just in the floor and you squat right and
- 30:48people were outraged that they were doing all
- 30:52this stuff to make immigrants that work at amazon
- 30:54feel better i was like guys it's so you can't
- 30:56sit right like you can't sit on the toilet and
- 31:01relax for two minutes while I guess for women,
- 31:05it wouldn't work for men anyways, but you can't
- 31:08sit and relax for two minutes while you take
- 31:10a piss. That's the whole point of those toilets.
- 31:14It's not to make people from India or Japan or
- 31:17anywhere else feel at home. It's so you can't
- 31:21waste time by peeing. Yeah. It's fucking stupid.
- 31:26You walk in, do your business, and get out. Yeah.
- 31:31so name to be determined of this venture i had
- 31:34uh in in discord i had mentioned why not call
- 31:38it whiplash boxing and it's not because it's
- 31:42high octane uh thunder yeah entertainment it's
- 31:47because you're you're gonna be a slave driver
- 31:50with these whatever poor kids you entice into
- 31:54signing on to this because you're gonna have
- 31:57to start from the bottom up you're not gonna
- 31:59sign names to your To your promotion here. Yeah,
- 32:05I don't know. Do not let Dana White into boxing.
- 32:10Fucking ridiculous. Do not allow Dana White into
- 32:15living. I mean, we already did that. I know.
- 32:19We can chivvy him out. That would be nice. Great.
- 32:26Another interesting sort of format that came
- 32:29up, the WBC Grand Prix. Have you heard of this
- 32:32one? No. So, four divisions. It's 126, 140, 160.
- 32:42I typoed there. And heavyweights. It's 32 athletes
- 32:48per division. Okay. At least they have one interesting
- 32:54weight class in there. 126? Yeah, well, 140 is
- 33:00kind of in the bin right now, isn't it? Who's
- 33:03that 140 that's... Or is that Garcia and all
- 33:07those guys? They're 147, aren't they? No, they're
- 33:10not. Brian Garcia is not going to fucking make
- 33:13140. He hasn't made 140 in five years. Let's
- 33:17see. Let's check, because... You're probably
- 33:22right. And I just assumed he was going to be
- 33:25at 140 because Raleigh's at 140. I got to look
- 33:29up who's actually at 140. I'm so bad at keeping
- 33:36track of the weight classes. Last time, when
- 33:43we recorded a few days ago, BoxRec was in the
- 33:48middle of maintenance at the time. So looking
- 33:51stuff up was proved to be a little challenging.
- 33:54Ah, yeah. So Tapology has their rankings here.
- 34:00Yeah, Tapology is a good alternative. Tiafimo,
- 34:05Jack Catterall, Richardson Hitchens, Liam Paro,
- 34:09Matias, Jaime? Jaime? Ortiz? Jemaine? I don't
- 34:16think I even... Is it Jemaine? Yeah. I just assumed
- 34:20he was... Mexican. With Ortiz. Yeah, I can see
- 34:23why, but he's from New York somewhere. Fair enough.
- 34:27I mean, I cannot say anything about names like
- 34:30that. My name's like that. Regis Progray. No
- 34:35mention of Arnold Barbosa. Is he not listed?
- 34:39Barbosa's nine. What? Haney's listed as 12. They
- 34:44got Sandor Martin above him. Well, Sandor Martin
- 34:48should be... fucking champion right now. Yeah,
- 34:52they fucked my boy again. They did. I was upset.
- 34:58I actually haven't watched the full fight. I
- 35:00just watched highlights, but it really looked
- 35:03like he won that fight in the highlights. Even
- 35:06though the highlights were designed to make it
- 35:08look like he didn't. He did better than the highlights
- 35:13would suggest, obviously. Pueyo wasn't terrible.
- 35:19It was just like a really slow start. Think same
- 35:22way like Teofimo versus Lomachenko. Or Teofimo
- 35:27versus Sandor Martin. Because I think Martin
- 35:32won that one too. It was just a matter of like
- 35:35once Pueyo got going, he started doing really
- 35:37well. And that was kind of it. So it was just
- 35:40a matter of like two halves. But I had it like
- 35:43a 7 -5 situation for Martin. Fair. I don't know.
- 35:50I just... They're never gonna let him win. And
- 35:53he doesn't have knockout power. So he's kind
- 35:56of fucked, I think. Which is not how it should
- 36:00be, but... Yeah. Shouldn't be. God. I have a
- 36:06foster and she likes to hang out on my footrest.
- 36:12That... Cat. This time, right? Yes. Yeah. Does
- 36:18she attack your feet? No, she doesn't. She's
- 36:20a little sweetheart. That's good. She likes getting
- 36:24in the way. Back to the Grand Prix. So, Ryan
- 36:28Garcia has not made 140 pounds since he fought
- 36:33Tank Davis, which was at 135, and he still missed
- 36:37weight there. And that was in 2023. Has it been
- 36:45that long? yes oh my god april what's the fourth
- 36:49month april 2023 so he's fought twice at 140
- 36:55since then and he was 143 and 143 and a half
- 36:59that i mean if we want to get technical 140 .1
- 37:06is welterweight that's the beginning yeah so
- 37:11i'm just saying Fucking Ryan Garcia hasn't fought
- 37:15at 140 for years. Yeah, I'm on BoxRec, and I
- 37:20don't see where they're saying what weight the
- 37:25fight is at. I'm on El Paso Times. And they say
- 37:31140? Yes. Yeah, okay. That doesn't surprise me.
- 37:35He's going to blow weight again. Fucking piece
- 37:37of crap. Right, back to the Grand Prix. It's
- 37:43a cool idea. It is. I like it. I think this is
- 37:46a good way you're going to... The same way like
- 37:48Overtime or any other tournament format works
- 37:52where the winner is going to get projected into
- 37:55something bigger. And you can kind of recycle
- 37:58the third place and below guys. Yeah. And just
- 38:04keep doing it. Like the Super Series that happened
- 38:08a long time ago. Yeah, that's when Inouye unified
- 38:14the first time, right? Was a super series? He
- 38:17fought Donair. He had all of them but one, and
- 38:20he fought Paul Butler outside of the tournament.
- 38:25Okay, yeah. But he got those other ones in the
- 38:28tournament, right? Yes. So 41 different nations.
- 38:3341 nations. That's pretty cool. That is very
- 38:35cool. I like it. And then, so it's going to be
- 38:39five cards, 128 fighters. Man, that's, what,
- 38:4764 fights total across five cards? 32 athletes
- 38:56in four divisions would be 64 fights. Yeah. Yeah.
- 39:02Across five events. Would be... 12? Yeah. And
- 39:09a few extras. That's crazy. That's a lot of fight.
- 39:15Yeah, but depending on the level, they might
- 39:18not be all 12 round fights. Some of them might
- 39:21be 10s, 8s. Still. Yeah. Just 12 fights of any
- 39:27kind on one card is a lot. It is, yeah. I've
- 39:30been to some like that with local promotions.
- 39:33They tend to have just a ton of four -rounders.
- 39:37yeah i was gonna say like the four round ones
- 39:41but none of these will be four rounds i don't
- 39:43think that's too short maybe the first uh the
- 39:48first round of the tournament is the four is
- 39:51four rounders and then they move to six and then
- 39:54move to eight and then then they would have half
- 39:56as many fight yeah that that would make sense
- 39:59i'm sure they planned this yeah they they haven't
- 40:03figured out but you can still hit me up uh suleiman
- 40:06i'll hook you up i used to design the the curling
- 40:11tournament brackets for the local tournaments
- 40:15and uh we did double knockouts and man sometimes
- 40:19those double knockouts with odd numbers of teams
- 40:22just get so complicated that doesn't sound very
- 40:25fun at all i mean i cheated and used uh like
- 40:31templates and stuff, but it would still take
- 40:35some time. Did you know that the baseball schedule
- 40:39for like decades was hand done by a couple, like
- 40:45a husband and wife somewhere in the States would
- 40:48just sit down and figure out. And those guys
- 40:51play so many fucking games. I think triple digits
- 40:54of games. Oh. Yeah, it's like, what is a baseball
- 41:00season? Like, 118 games or something crazy? Yeah.
- 41:03And there's... Ah, the baseball guys are going
- 41:07to hate me. I think it's 36 teams? I don't know.
- 41:10Like, that's crazy to sit down and, oh, well,
- 41:14these guys... But it is baseball, so you can
- 41:16have multiple games in a day and stuff, but still.
- 41:20And a lot of them are series. Like, they'll play
- 41:24three or four game series. Yeah. But like, oh,
- 41:29I'm flying to Toronto and doing a triple header,
- 41:32so then we need at least five days off before
- 41:35we fly back to Florida. Ew. I was just picking
- 41:42places as far away as I could think. Jade Jones.
- 41:52I don't know who that is. It's a British taekwondo
- 41:55gold medalist. It's crossing into boxing. Taekwondo?
- 42:02That's a weird one to come into boxing, isn't
- 42:04it? Yeah, because it's all kicks. Yeah, Taekwondo
- 42:09doesn't throw that many punches. No, they avoid
- 42:12throwing punches. Interesting. Why wouldn't you
- 42:19go into mixed martial arts? That's what I would
- 42:23do. The women make good money there. The men
- 42:26get hosed, but the women probably make pretty...
- 42:28maybe more than boxing. Clarissa Shields fights
- 42:32in MMA for that exact reason. Yeah. Hmm. That'll
- 42:39be interesting. Yeah, I'm interested to see how
- 42:42she does. She's been in... Taekwondo footwork
- 42:45is really different, isn't it? Like, even among
- 42:48martial arts, their footwork is distinct. I'm
- 42:52thinking... That she's going to dominate the
- 42:55pro ranks the same way that Tenshin Nasukawa
- 42:58is going to dominate Japan. Maloney had him hurt.
- 43:06He did. If Maloney had any fucking power, Tenshin
- 43:09was out. Yeah. I still love that Maloney had
- 43:15his little Japanese cheering section that was
- 43:17trying to yell in English. They were so cute.
- 43:21What kind of things were they yelling? So I think
- 43:26it was people who have actually met him. So some
- 43:29of it, I think, was, like, inside jokes. Not
- 43:34jokes, but, like, phrases that didn't really
- 43:37make sense in English that they must have used
- 43:39in training camp. Oh. Japonglish? Nihonglish?
- 43:46They were all English words, but the order was
- 43:49wrong. That sort of thing. And a lot of nice,
- 43:53nice body. Nice body, Jason. Is that for a body
- 43:59punch? Yeah, yeah. When somebody lands a body
- 44:03punch in Japan, you just get this like chorus
- 44:06of nice body. I'm sure at this point. And it
- 44:10makes me giggle every time. they do not know
- 44:13they don't i have laughed no i have laughed and
- 44:16a couple times i've sat beside people who were
- 44:18friendly enough to talk to me the one guy was
- 44:21like what's funny and i was like it sounds like
- 44:24they're saying he's very handsome like he has
- 44:26a nice body he's very sexy yeah and the guy's
- 44:31like no i was like in english you would say body
- 44:34punch yeah or shots or something but nice body
- 44:39it just sounds like you're you know complimenting
- 44:42his abs i'm thinking they call like this happens
- 44:48in spanish too where they just call uppercuts
- 44:50they just call them uppers yeah japan does that
- 44:53too so i'm thinking that rather than say body
- 44:56shot all the way out they just like oh it's a
- 44:59body yeah yeah yeah yeah and that's what it is
- 45:03and it makes sense but it still sounds funny
- 45:05when you get like a bunch of old men yelling
- 45:07nice body To an Australian man? Exactly. In their
- 45:14very thick Japanese accent. Nice buddy. Exactly.
- 45:22Yeah, that's great. That was all that I had.
- 45:28Oh, I have something. Oh, go ahead. So I did
- 45:32manage to get a ticket to see Kiyoguchi. So my
- 45:37very random list of five fighters I wanted to
- 45:40see when I came to Japan will be finished on
- 45:42March 13th. It was Inoue and Nakatani, of course.
- 45:48And then the other three were my own random likes.
- 45:53So I saw Kenichi Ogawa, I saw Ioka, and Kiyoguchi
- 46:00was the last one on the list. And just the one
- 46:06missing, though. How many times have you seen
- 46:11the legend himself? Tension? Yeah. Like three,
- 46:20something like that. You are a bigger fan than
- 46:23you care to admit. No, he just fights on other
- 46:26people's cards. He fights on the Nakatani cards
- 46:29almost every time. Because I've seen Nakatani
- 46:34three times now. Oh, okay. Two of those were
- 46:38really fast knockouts. Yeah, super fast. Like
- 46:42the Astrolavio knockout was, why did I come here?
- 46:47Why did I pay for this? Yeah. Could have at least
- 46:51been at the boxing bar. Yeah, well, oh, I haven't
- 46:56told that story on here yet. So I usually buy
- 46:59from that website where you basically just...
- 47:02Bank transfer money to the fighter directly and
- 47:05they mail you a ticket. But Kiyoguchi is based
- 47:10in Osaka, I want to say. Yokohama? Or he's based
- 47:16in Osaka, okay. Yeah. His cutoff was really early
- 47:20because he's worried about mail times. So there
- 47:24was somebody fighting who is based in Tokyo who
- 47:28I think the cutoff was the 5th? and i didn't
- 47:34try and buy tickets until the 6th i missed it
- 47:36by a day whatever day the cutoff was and then
- 47:39i still can't find i think i figured it out now
- 47:43but i can't find fucking tickets because if you
- 47:47google their name and ticket nothing comes up
- 47:50so i got in the chat with the the old men at
- 47:54the bar and i was like guys i fucked up i can't
- 47:57find tickets to buy and the one guy was like
- 48:00oh well You can just buy them on this other website.
- 48:05And there's one guy is actually a boxing promoter.
- 48:09And he goes, I'll get you tickets. He's like,
- 48:11what tickets do you want? Just let me know. And
- 48:15you can bank transfer me the money. And I was
- 48:17like, yeah, that works. That's easy. So I'm pretty
- 48:20sure he just went to the place they're fighting,
- 48:24the arena, and bought me tickets and mailed them
- 48:26to me. Should be here tomorrow or the next day.
- 48:36That's cool, though. Yeah. To have that little
- 48:38niche community. Yeah. His name is Kenta Kaneko.
- 48:51Because he has the same last name as one of the
- 48:53people I work with. Kaneko, I don't think, is
- 48:55that common. Or I've only met... yeah i've only
- 48:59met the one so i asked her if they were related
- 49:01and she basically called me racist i was like
- 49:03you guys live in the same city and you have the
- 49:06same last name and it's not a common one i didn't
- 49:10think it was and she's like there's millions
- 49:12of us and i was like yeah i know but you live
- 49:14in the same city i've been using trying to learn
- 49:19how to use ai a little better make it more how
- 49:22to complement my life i guess so i typed in just
- 49:26now Who are the current top 10 pound -for -pound
- 49:29boxers into Google Gemini? Okay. So here's what
- 49:34they came up with. Number 10, Devin Haney. No.
- 49:41Wrong. Wrong. I know. Number 9, Junto Nakatani.
- 49:46That low. I know. But it gets better as it moves
- 49:50up, I think. Junto Nakatani's blurb, a very skilled
- 49:54boxer that continues to impress. Number eight,
- 49:59and this is wrong as well, Gervonta Davis. Yep.
- 50:04No. He just got beat. Right. He just lost. Number
- 50:10seven, Canelo Alvarez. Actually, I'm okay with
- 50:14that one. I don't think Canelo would be in my
- 50:18top ten anymore, though. Not top five at this
- 50:23point. At the very least, not in top fives. Yeah.
- 50:28Long -standing presence in the top rankings,
- 50:31known for his skill and popularity. Known for
- 50:35being a fucking ginger. Yeah. Number six, Jesse
- 50:40Rodriguez. Really? Yeah. A very talented younger
- 50:45boxer who has been very impressive. He has been.
- 50:49Yeah. Number five, Artur Beterbiev. A very powerful
- 50:54puncher and a force to be reckoned with in the
- 50:57light heavyweight division. I'd have Jesse above
- 50:59him. For sure. Like, Better BF is definitely
- 51:04really good, but I don't know if I'd put him
- 51:07on a pound -for -pound list. If you shrunk him
- 51:11down and took away his power, I don't think he
- 51:14would be that good. If you scaled him down to
- 51:16Bam's size, I think Bam beats him. Yeah, that's
- 51:20what I mean. Jujutsu Nakatani beats him. People
- 51:23always do it the other way. They always make
- 51:25the small guys bigger, but if you make the big
- 51:27guys smaller, I think it's more of a test in
- 51:34my imaginary pound for pound. Bigger guys tend
- 51:38to rely on their power a lot more. Yeah. I mean,
- 51:43Junto has power, but... He's also a freak of
- 51:49nature. He's so tall. Yeah, he's very tall for
- 51:52where he fights. After number four, Dimitri Bevel.
- 51:57His skill and wins in the light heavyweight division
- 52:00have caused his rank to rise. All right. I will
- 52:06take it. Number three, Terrence Crawford. Crawford's
- 52:11skill and dominance in his weight divisions keeps
- 52:13him high on the list. Right now, I'd have Beeble
- 52:18above Terrence Crawford. Yeah. Crawford just
- 52:22doesn't fight very often. Exactly. Part of my
- 52:25problem. And now that he's fighting in weight
- 52:29classes that don't suit him, he's not... He's
- 52:33beatable looking. I mean, he hasn't been beat,
- 52:35but he looks like he could be. I would also argue
- 52:38that... What's his name? Did beat Crawford. Oh,
- 52:43Madrimov? Yeah. Arguable. And number two and
- 52:49number one. You can probably guess which they
- 52:52are, but which order? They'll have Usyk number
- 52:56one and Inoue number two. That's correct. Inoue,
- 53:00the monster continues to dominate with his power
- 53:03and skill across multiple weight classes. Yeah,
- 53:08number two is like at the minimum. Yeah, I'm
- 53:13okay with people putting Usyk above Italy, honestly.
- 53:18A long time ago, a friend of mine had an interesting
- 53:21criterion for pound -for -pound list, which is
- 53:26the idea of a pound -for -pound list is how would
- 53:31the smaller guys compare to the heavyweights,
- 53:33like you had mentioned about moving guys up.
- 53:36So he never included heavyweights because...
- 53:41Yeah, but is Usyk a heavyweight? He's a bridger.
- 53:48Well, I just mean, like, he went up into heavyweight,
- 53:52but he really is a cruiserweight. Yeah. And he
- 53:55is the only person who's fighting people that
- 53:58much bigger than him and winning. True. Like,
- 54:01as much as I love Inoue, if you put him up against
- 54:04somebody who's 40 pounds bigger than him and
- 54:06at the top of their division, he's probably not
- 54:09going to win. For him, that would be middleweights
- 54:14right now. So what, fighting Johnny Beck? Yeah,
- 54:17he can maybe beat Johnny Beck. And one more AI
- 54:22list. Who are the top five Japanese boxers right
- 54:29now? Oh, they're going to fuck this up. They
- 54:34gave me six. But they're going to fuck this up.
- 54:36It's not an order. Okay. I don't think so anyway.
- 54:41It's not numbered. Inoue and Nakatani need to
- 54:44be on the list, of course. They are. So, from
- 54:47the bottom up. Kosei Tanaka. Okay. Takuma Inoue.
- 54:54Kazuto Ioka. Yeah, maybe. Kazuto, that's a good
- 55:00pick. I don't know if he's top five still, though.
- 55:04No. Really. Like, being honest. Taraji? Yeah,
- 55:09then Taraji. It's not bad. He's been winning.
- 55:12It's not terrible, but it's missing the people
- 55:17that they don't put in articles, because of course
- 55:20it is. Yeah, Tsutsumi's missing, for sure. You
- 55:24could even just tangentially mention honorable
- 55:27mentions of Ryosuke Nishida and Yoshiki Takei.
- 55:34Those are... Yeah, they... Top five is a hard
- 55:39one, but I wouldn't put Ioka in the top five
- 55:43anymore. Top five in my heart, but... Number
- 55:49two and number one are Nakatani and Inoue. Yeah.
- 55:53As one would expect. I suspect that that AI strictly
- 55:57went on article hits. Yeah, that's how they're
- 56:01trained. Yeah. Like, Ioka's in more articles
- 56:05than Tsutsumi for sure. But right now, Tsutsumi
- 56:09is definitely the better boxer. Right. Actually,
- 56:15I changed the prompt to top 10 and it cut it
- 56:19down to four. Why? I don't know. Here's the reasoning.
- 56:24It's tricky to give a definitive top 10 because
- 56:27rankings shift and top can mean different things
- 56:30like pound for pound skill, current title holders,
- 56:34etc. So I can highlight some of the most prominent
- 56:38and highly regarded Japanese boxers currently.
- 56:42So a top five list gives you six and a top 10
- 56:45list gives you four. Yes. Makes a lot of sense.
- 56:48Excellent. Excellent. And so Kosei Tanaka, Junto
- 56:53Nakatani, Kazuto Ioka, and Naoya Inoue. As one
- 56:59would expect. That must just be article hits.
- 57:01It is. It even gave me its top sources. ESPN,
- 57:09Boxing News Online, and Ring Magazine. Right.
- 57:16Well, Anioka would have a ton of articles because
- 57:19of his cancellation in his last fight. Yeah.
- 57:24Double heartbreak. That was so sad. Yeah, absolutely.
- 57:32Well, we are at an hour. Nice. Yeah. I'm going
- 57:40to ask. How are you going to give me six names
- 57:45for top five prompts, but only four for top ten?
- 57:53I hate the AI shit. It drives me nuts. It apologized
- 57:58and gave me more names. It does that a lot. Especially
- 58:06if you ask it opinion questions. Improved list.
- 58:12So this is ranked. No, it's not ranked. Never
- 58:16mind. I don't even know who that is. Riku Kano.
- 58:33Ginjiro Shigeoka. Shigeoka I've heard of, at
- 58:37least. Yudai Shigeoka. I've heard of him and
- 58:41their brothers, so whatever. They'd apologize
- 58:46for not giving me 10. And then gave you the most
- 58:51random fucking list of names I've ever heard.
- 58:54Yeah. It's an odd one, Gemini, but I'll take
- 58:57it, I guess. It's a good starting point. I hate
- 59:02that AI -generated shit at the top of people
- 59:04now. 833 -589 -7637. If you want to stand on
