- 1:12Speaker 1: good friend, somebody I've admired over the years, and I've
- 1:15Speaker 1: told her many times to to herself personally. She's been imparied,
- 1:19Speaker 1: said should shut up. My next guest is A. Is
- 1:23Speaker 1: the first female to perform hip hop in the White
- 1:25Speaker 1: House and the first African American female to serve as
- 1:28Speaker 1: president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Recording Academy,
- 1:32Speaker 1: which is the Grammy organization. The first rap artists ever
- 1:36Speaker 1: to perform in New York's historic Carnegie Hall, the first
- 1:39Speaker 1: female rapper to ever receive a gold single, the first
- 1:42Speaker 1: female solo rapper ever nominated for a Grammy. In two
- 1:45Speaker 1: thousand and eight, uh MC Life became the first solo
- 1:48Speaker 1: female rapper to be honored and ductor on v H
- 1:51Speaker 1: one's Hip Hop Honors. She's a pioneer in the in
- 1:54Speaker 1: the industry. She opened the door for future female hip
- 1:57Speaker 1: hop artists, but Darren to do what had never been
- 2:00Speaker 1: done before because it's only something that she loved to do.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Please work with the money making conversations. She's my good friend.
- 2:07Speaker 1: MC light Hey, hey, good morning. I had a lot
- 2:12Speaker 1: to say about the MC. You know, I see see
- 2:16Speaker 1: all good things you because you're you're really one of
- 2:19Speaker 1: those people that you know, you're so talented and you're
- 2:22Speaker 1: so nice. Let's get that out the way first. And
- 2:24Speaker 1: you're you're always making a difference in the community. And
- 2:27Speaker 1: it's kind of like you kind of you you know,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you need a rushan mcdonalode. They're barking for you, telling
- 2:32Speaker 1: everybody how good you are, how special you are, not
- 2:35Speaker 1: saying you don't do it because I see you posting
- 2:37Speaker 1: on social media. You're doing your thing. But then you
- 2:39Speaker 1: know other people say it to you. That's why it
- 2:42Speaker 1: don't sound like you're bragging you, you know, right right right. No,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I'm all for that, Thank you very much. I'll take it.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I'll take the uh the promo, I'll take the help.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Thank you. Good well, I got some most things I
- 2:53Speaker 1: want to say about you. Okay, here's the part that
- 2:55Speaker 1: I love about you and um and we're gonna do
- 2:57Speaker 1: some things together and that's in uh, you know, giving
- 3:00Speaker 1: back to the community. Why is that so important to
- 3:03Speaker 1: MC light? Oh goodness, Um, it's just the godly thing
- 3:09Speaker 1: to do. You know, I feel like it's so crazy
- 3:12Speaker 1: when we have UH team meetings and you know, getting
- 3:16Speaker 1: everybody piped up to do some great works. It's only
- 3:20Speaker 1: because we're going to bring more notoriety to the brand
- 3:24Speaker 1: that is mc light. But then we're able to garner
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, good scenarios with corporations and move one you know,
- 3:33Speaker 1: move money from one pocket to the other. So they
- 3:36Speaker 1: got to get it from the corporation and give it
- 3:38Speaker 1: to the people who need it. And you know, one
- 3:41Speaker 1: of our initiatives is education. Our signature initiative is hashtag
- 3:45Speaker 1: Educate our Men, but one of our primary focuses with
- 3:49Speaker 1: our hip hop Sisters foundations education. So being able to
- 3:55Speaker 1: give back in that way is you know, it's amazing.
- 3:58Speaker 1: It's God said, it's a cool thing to buy her.
- 4:02Speaker 1: She does what she said. I'm gonna I'm gonna site
- 4:05Speaker 1: three examples you can google because I left a lot
- 4:08Speaker 1: of love about the internet. They can find out if
- 4:10Speaker 1: you're lying real fast, just say it and Steve Harvey show.
- 4:17Speaker 1: She just came on my show. Steve was hosting I
- 4:20Speaker 1: was executive producing. She awarded a student on that show
- 4:23Speaker 1: a fifty thousand dollars scholarship. Okay, seen m c light
- 4:29Speaker 1: presents a new scholar, Jaden Johnson, with a fifty dollars
- 4:32Speaker 1: scholarship on the red carpet of the seventeen Sould Trained
- 4:36Speaker 1: Music Awards correct andeen. Just recently, I posted on my
- 4:41Speaker 1: social media and then I turned around saw she posted
- 4:43Speaker 1: on hard soship media too. My owner shop, my my owner.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Short student awarded a four year mc light scholarship, becomes
- 4:51Speaker 1: the first black woman to earn the degree in astrophysicistics
- 4:55Speaker 1: with a with diploma from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
- 5:00Speaker 1: That's just three examples. Yes, and we have we have
- 5:05Speaker 1: four young men in school right now, and from what
- 5:08Speaker 1: we understand from President Kim bro Down at Dillard University,
- 5:12Speaker 1: looks like he may be valedictorians. We are excited. Yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 1: four point oh through his whole existence there at Dillard.
- 5:22Speaker 1: So so this, this is this is something that you've done.
- 5:27Speaker 1: How did it How did it all come together? You know,
- 5:29Speaker 1: because we all know that, you know, I was doing
- 5:31Speaker 1: the Neighborhood Awards and I had the staff you know,
- 5:34Speaker 1: you know Steve and I, you know, we are in
- 5:36Speaker 1: the front of everything. But you don't do these things
- 5:38Speaker 1: by yourself. Who are to key people in your life
- 5:41Speaker 1: that keep you moving forward. We're gonna get to the
- 5:43Speaker 1: MC light, the superstar on stage, the pie. That's why
- 5:47Speaker 1: I put all that out front, the entertainment side, because
- 5:50Speaker 1: I wanted to We we talked about we're gonna we're
- 5:52Speaker 1: gonna talk about that, We're gonna talk about the app
- 5:54Speaker 1: and all that, but I really wanted to talk about
- 5:56Speaker 1: this side because a lot of people don't know about it,
- 6:00Speaker 1: because you know, sometimes that doesn't make the headline. The
- 6:03Speaker 1: gold the sole lot of events, the television, the parents
- 6:06Speaker 1: that those making make headlines. But like you just said,
- 6:09Speaker 1: we have four students right now, young men at Dealer University,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and one of them got a four M and they're
- 6:17Speaker 1: all doing well. Uh. One has an internship at Goldman
- 6:20Speaker 1: Sacks up in Seattle, another one has an internship in
- 6:24Speaker 1: Los Angeles at Toyota. Another one is doing coding for Google,
- 6:28Speaker 1: so they're kind of moving him all around during this summer,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and the other is working at home with his dad
- 6:34Speaker 1: and his construction business. But nonetheless they are all extremely
- 6:38Speaker 1: busy and doing well. So who's the key person that
- 6:42Speaker 1: that that that pushes you, you know, because you're like
- 6:45Speaker 1: I tell everybody MC like one of the people. She
- 6:47Speaker 1: do what she do, man, she just drift right back
- 6:49Speaker 1: in the shadow. Who keeps pushing you out there? That's
- 6:52Speaker 1: a young lady to stand. I know who it is now,
- 6:55Speaker 1: you know she's not that tall. Yes, for sure, it
- 7:01Speaker 1: is Dr Lynn Richardson. And you know we met through
- 7:04Speaker 1: Russell Simmons many moons ago during to Get Your Money
- 7:07Speaker 1: Right UH Time era of eight SAN, which is the
- 7:13Speaker 1: Hip Hop Summit Action Network, which she still stands as
- 7:17Speaker 1: uh CEO of Dr Benjamin Chavis. And she called me
- 7:21Speaker 1: up and asked me, did I want to start a foundation?
- 7:24Speaker 1: And I said, yeah, why not? And um, I'll tell
- 7:28Speaker 1: you what. Four months later, we had five or one
- 7:31Speaker 1: C three status and we had to one hundred thousand
- 7:33Speaker 1: dollar scholarships to give away at the University of Wisconsin
- 7:36Speaker 1: Madison and the and the truth is, you know, I've
- 7:41Speaker 1: given my celebrity to many foundations over the years and
- 7:45Speaker 1: it's been great, you know, in a collaborative effort, but
- 7:48Speaker 1: nothing nothing beat starting your own, you know, starting your
- 7:52Speaker 1: own foundation and being able to collaborate with others as
- 7:57Speaker 1: a full fledged, you know, work foundation. Now, I was
- 8:01Speaker 1: looking at some of your advisory board numbers to your foundation,
- 8:05Speaker 1: Faith Evans LETTU See, Jada Pinkett Smith, Chili uh Sheryl Salt,
- 8:14Speaker 1: Melinda Williams. A lot of names here now, Kelly Price Bought,
- 8:18Speaker 1: Malcolm Jamar Warner, and Kenny Lattimore as a Melanie Fiona,
- 8:25Speaker 1: Dr Benjamin Chavis, Russell Simmons. This is this is uh,
- 8:30Speaker 1: this is a lot of This is a lot of
- 8:32Speaker 1: people that that that are that consistently I do are busy, yeah, absolutely,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and those are what we call our ambassadors. And when
- 8:42Speaker 1: we call on them to show up, you know, for
- 8:46Speaker 1: a an address of some sort of press conference, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: to talk about the next the next scholarship that we
- 8:56Speaker 1: have to give away. I mean we've actually been on
- 8:58Speaker 1: that red carpet us who train I think six years
- 9:02Speaker 1: in a row giving away dollars scholarships and usually we
- 9:07Speaker 1: have two people that we're giving them to, and so
- 9:10Speaker 1: we may call on a board member to come and
- 9:13Speaker 1: help us celebrate and present those scholarships on the red carpet.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And so they all have been uh, you know, hand
- 9:21Speaker 1: selected and we are honored to have them. Cool. Well,
- 9:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something. Um, she does an event
- 9:28Speaker 1: annually in Miami, correct in the month of January, and
- 9:32Speaker 1: we're gonna come back. We're gonna talk about that because
- 9:34Speaker 1: you know, she has contacted me. Rashan McDonald the hide
- 9:40Speaker 1: I want you. You're a bad man, because we're going
- 9:45Speaker 1: because you know, she knows how I am. You know
- 9:47Speaker 1: I can't turn it down. She knows that we have
- 9:49Speaker 1: similar dreams and similar aspiration to change the world. And
- 9:52Speaker 1: we're gonna talk more about that when we come back
- 9:54Speaker 1: with mcl my good friend. He wanted everybody money making conversations.
- 10:01Speaker 1: She's still on the line. I got to talk to
- 10:03Speaker 1: her your board, I didn't you know, I didn't want
- 10:06Speaker 1: to loss over that. M c about your board that
- 10:09Speaker 1: you're that's that's so key because a lot of them
- 10:11Speaker 1: participate in your event, your physical event that you host
- 10:14Speaker 1: every year in Miami. Tell us about that physical event
- 10:16Speaker 1: that you do every year in Miami, and why are
- 10:18Speaker 1: you do in Miami. Well, it's called the Wealth Experience,
- 10:23Speaker 1: and the wealth is womanhood, expansion, assets, leadership, transformation, and health,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and that are that is all the aspects that we
- 10:33Speaker 1: we aim to cover in that three day journey is
- 10:38Speaker 1: really what it is. You know, at the top of
- 10:40Speaker 1: the year, people want to change everything and start of
- 10:43Speaker 1: fresh and new. Because those who are looking to change,
- 10:47Speaker 1: you know, um, their minds, uh, their businesses, you know,
- 10:52Speaker 1: entrepreneurs looking to make changes so that they can put
- 10:55Speaker 1: themselves in a space where they can be more successful.
- 11:00Speaker 1: This is where we come and we come here for
- 11:02Speaker 1: three days. We have breakout sessions, general sessions that address
- 11:06Speaker 1: all of those aspects of life. And so yes, it
- 11:09Speaker 1: has been in Miami because the weather is so beautiful
- 11:12Speaker 1: come January in the state and that yeah, and that
- 11:19Speaker 1: is the reason. But now you know, the board is
- 11:22Speaker 1: talking and it maybe moves to bring this thing to Arizona. So, um,
- 11:27Speaker 1: what's the same time of the year, same time of
- 11:29Speaker 1: the year, same time of the year, top of the
- 11:32Speaker 1: year in January. We're looking at the first Thursday through
- 11:36Speaker 1: Sunday after the new year. I'm not mad at that.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I went to many events, uh you know in Arizona
- 11:43Speaker 1: at that time of the year, and I think that's
- 11:45Speaker 1: a that's a smart move. Is it going to be
- 11:47Speaker 1: the same multi day event, the same same schedule, the
- 11:51Speaker 1: same breakout sessions and things like that. When do you
- 11:53Speaker 1: start in general sessions? Yes, okay, when do you make
- 11:57Speaker 1: that an official announcement? Will probably make it next month. Okay.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I want to be a part of that. But we're
- 12:05Speaker 1: making it right here. You know. I'm talking about you know,
- 12:08Speaker 1: when you could when the when the link is open,
- 12:09Speaker 1: because you want to drive traffic, you know, because I
- 12:11Speaker 1: wanted you to come back on the show so we
- 12:13Speaker 1: can officially drive traffic. Because that's my whole thing. Because
- 12:16Speaker 1: we're gonna talking to fu. I'm just let everybody to know.
- 12:18Speaker 1: You know, I want you know, m C and I
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know, we want to build this brand and build
- 12:24Speaker 1: the brand of success and uplift and pay it forward.
- 12:26Speaker 1: That's what this call is all about today. Just let
- 12:29Speaker 1: everybody know that we're creating a relationship, and this relationship
- 12:32Speaker 1: about being able to expand awareness because we want donations.
- 12:37Speaker 1: We want bigger uh not so bigger, more uh sponsors
- 12:42Speaker 1: in the corporate world to become aware of this brand.
- 12:44Speaker 1: That is to become a bigger event. We want to
- 12:47Speaker 1: increase the attendance to the event and because we just
- 12:50Speaker 1: want to we want to impact more more people, and
- 12:53Speaker 1: I feel that's important and and like I said, and
- 12:57Speaker 1: the reason we're creating this relationship because that's what I do,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and I'll be honest with you, that's what I do.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I market in brand. God has giving me the ability
- 13:04Speaker 1: that they innate talent to be able to connect the
- 13:07Speaker 1: dots as an amazing high amazingly highly in an effective manner.
- 13:12Speaker 1: And uh, I'm just happy to be part of the team.
- 13:14Speaker 1: I let everybody know I'm part of the MPT like team. Now, okay,
- 13:18Speaker 1: all right, I love it. I love it, and thank
- 13:20Speaker 1: you very much. You know, this platform means a lot,
- 13:24Speaker 1: and what you're doing is, you know, changing lives by
- 13:27Speaker 1: making information available and accessible. Well, you know, like I said,
- 13:31Speaker 1: that's why I had to tell people. Just just announced
- 13:33Speaker 1: three situations where you know, you can go to the
- 13:37Speaker 1: internet because a lot of things you do in in
- 13:40Speaker 1: a scholar and in a scholarship matter doesn't make the news.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And I just wanted to point out three examples. If
- 13:45Speaker 1: anybody's listening to the show live or what is replays
- 13:48Speaker 1: on podcast or series XM, or replays on on the
- 13:52Speaker 1: station here in Atlanta, that she's doing it and she
- 13:56Speaker 1: has a team of people and she has an advisory
- 13:58Speaker 1: board of significant people. And the only way you grow,
- 14:02Speaker 1: you know. The Neighborhood Awards started as a simple idea
- 14:04Speaker 1: in Houston, Texas. They went to next day. You know,
- 14:07Speaker 1: it's a large scale event in Las Vegas in Atlanta,
- 14:10Speaker 1: drawing anywhere from thousand to a hundred and fifty thousand people,
- 14:13Speaker 1: when when it was in Atlanta, Georgia. So I know,
- 14:17Speaker 1: you have to shape an idea and you have to
- 14:18Speaker 1: bring a unique thinking people, you know, people who think
- 14:21Speaker 1: out the box. And I feel that that's where you're
- 14:24Speaker 1: about to take this. This is this is the next level. Uh.
- 14:27Speaker 1: You know, you've done great things. Now you want to
- 14:28Speaker 1: affect more. And it's almost like a kind of like
- 14:32Speaker 1: a greedy thing, but it's a good greedy. You know.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I want to do more of I want to give
- 14:36Speaker 1: away a half million dollars. I want to give way
- 14:38Speaker 1: a million dollars scholarships. Come on, I never her. This
- 14:47Speaker 1: is the lady have been the first in the White House.
- 14:48Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, first goal first, She used
- 14:51Speaker 1: to be in first. Come on, now, so let's make
- 14:53Speaker 1: you first in scholarships. Yes, I love it. Let's do it.
- 14:59Speaker 1: We'll do it. Let's send these kids to school. Yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 1: let's talk about a couple of entrepreneur things before we
- 15:03Speaker 1: get out of here. The m C light app. What
- 15:06Speaker 1: is that and how do you use them? Well, the
- 15:10Speaker 1: m C light app is available for androids and iPhones.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's free. It is where you find me. So it's
- 15:17Speaker 1: all the music that people may not hear in various places.
- 15:21Speaker 1: You will definitely be able to get it on em
- 15:24Speaker 1: C light and be able to stream it. And I
- 15:26Speaker 1: release new music all the time, so I make it
- 15:29Speaker 1: specifically for the fans. And then also the schedule is
- 15:33Speaker 1: there to see where I'm going to be. If you
- 15:35Speaker 1: want to come out and listen to some good hip
- 15:37Speaker 1: hop and you know, and show your support and dance
- 15:41Speaker 1: and and just be in the company of some good folks.
- 15:45Speaker 1: You can see the schedule there, I think, and pictures
- 15:49Speaker 1: and video is just uh, welcome into the m C
- 15:53Speaker 1: light world on your phone. Now, does the does the
- 15:57Speaker 1: scholarship part of pere your app as well? Or there's
- 16:01Speaker 1: actually a link. There's actually a link that goes to it. Yes, okay,
- 16:07Speaker 1: Now what is the Beauty, Brains and Business Tour? What
- 16:10Speaker 1: is that? Oh? Yeah, this is all for the entrepreneur.
- 16:14Speaker 1: It's wonderful. It's an intimate conversation. You know, we come
- 16:17Speaker 1: into your city and we um, we pick up space.
- 16:21Speaker 1: That's uh. That lends itself to a real serious but
- 16:26Speaker 1: lounge scenario. And so we've done many of them across
- 16:31Speaker 1: the nation and it's been really it's been really awesome.
- 16:35Speaker 1: And we come you know, full force, and we have
- 16:40Speaker 1: about I don't know, maybe thirty five to seventy women.
- 16:45Speaker 1: They're a little bit smaller and intimate than what we're
- 16:48Speaker 1: accustomed to do it. But now with this particular forum,
- 16:52Speaker 1: it lends itself to people really getting answers to their questions.
- 16:57Speaker 1: And it's a room full of entrepreneurs. Were men who
- 17:01Speaker 1: have owned their own businesses for some time, and then
- 17:03Speaker 1: you have those who are just beginning, and it's a
- 17:06Speaker 1: great place to to network and meet people, but also
- 17:10Speaker 1: to get information that can help your business. Well, I
- 17:13Speaker 1: know your voice is being heard because you are a
- 17:15Speaker 1: real power player on LinkedIn and LinkedIn. If you're not
- 17:19Speaker 1: familiar with that, that is an entrepreneurship where people are
- 17:22Speaker 1: seeking opportunities employment. They put the resume. It's not where
- 17:26Speaker 1: you you show you your side profile or you're behind.
- 17:29Speaker 1: You don't do that on LinkedIn. You know that ain't
- 17:32Speaker 1: on linked In, your LinkedIn you And that lets me
- 17:34Speaker 1: know that that that there's strong validation to your brand
- 17:38Speaker 1: in the entrepreneur world because you're such a power player
- 17:41Speaker 1: on LinkedIn. Yeah. Yeah, you gotta use all your social
- 17:45Speaker 1: media and especially when there's a business aspect to it,
- 17:50Speaker 1: it's just another tool to help you, you know, reach
- 17:54Speaker 1: out and get connected with like minded individuals. Well, my friend,
- 17:58Speaker 1: you know you're doing so much in the community. I'm
- 18:00Speaker 1: happy to announce the world that I'm part of the
- 18:03Speaker 1: m c light team and we're gonna do some special
- 18:06Speaker 1: things together. Um, your website. We want to start about
- 18:09Speaker 1: your website and also we already mentioned downloading the mc
- 18:12Speaker 1: light app on Android or your iPhone. Go to Google
- 18:15Speaker 1: play Store or go to the Apple Store as well
