- 1:15Speaker 1: hard stories about athlete. Not Lawrence Sidbury Junr. A former
- 1:19Speaker 1: two thousand nine fourth round draft pick of the Atlanta Factors.
- 1:22Speaker 1: He graduated from Richmond University in Richmond, Virginia, and was
- 1:26Speaker 1: part of that famed two thousand and eight National Championship team.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Lawrence is on, I think that team was undefeated. To
- 1:32Speaker 1: Lawrence is on the show that they discussed the importance
- 1:34Speaker 1: of preparing for life after the NFL. Please, welcome to
- 1:37Speaker 1: money making Conversations. Lawrence Sidbury Junior. How you doing, my friend,
- 1:42Speaker 1: I'm doing pretty good. Thanks for having me. Now, not Lawrence,
- 1:45Speaker 1: that team that you want, the two thousand eight National
- 1:47Speaker 1: Championship team. That team was undefeated, right? Did they have
- 1:49Speaker 1: any losses? Uh? Not quite. We actually had a pretty
- 1:53Speaker 1: trying season get into the championship game. We won a
- 1:56Speaker 1: bunch of games in the beginning of the season and
- 1:58Speaker 1: we hit a rough patch and with it was like
- 2:00Speaker 1: three or four games in a row. We were kind
- 2:02Speaker 1: of at a point well, you know, we actually called
- 2:04Speaker 1: the players only meeting and we just we had to
- 2:06Speaker 1: you know, galvanize everybody, and we had to win every game.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You know, to the end of the season, pretty much
- 2:12Speaker 1: every game was like a playoff game, and we just
- 2:14Speaker 1: you know, we pulled it out game at the game,
- 2:17Speaker 1: at the game gotten to the playoffs, and one of
- 2:19Speaker 1: these games finally we won. We beat Montana and uh
- 2:23Speaker 1: in Chattan Nouga. That's where the championship game was at
- 2:25Speaker 1: that point, and I brought the first first championship home
- 2:28Speaker 1: school history. Right now, I hear that a lot in sports,
- 2:32Speaker 1: the team only meeting players on the players only meeting,
- 2:36Speaker 1: right absolutely, without you know, giving away the names. I'm
- 2:38Speaker 1: asking for names. What is the purpose of the players
- 2:41Speaker 1: on their meeting and uh and what what what was
- 2:44Speaker 1: accomplished out of that players only meeting that you guys
- 2:47Speaker 1: did that led to the run for the national championship
- 2:49Speaker 1: in two thousand and eight. You know, sometimes you get
- 2:53Speaker 1: to a point where a coach's voice can go still
- 2:57Speaker 1: and they coaching that. They coaching me every day. They're
- 2:59Speaker 1: telling you what you're doing along every day. You know,
- 3:02Speaker 1: when you got a group of guys, at some point
- 3:04Speaker 1: everyone has to hold each other accountable. It is really
- 3:06Speaker 1: to the point where the coach doesn't even matter because
- 3:08Speaker 1: we're truly playing for each other. Right. Um, you know,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I wasn't really I'm not really the vocal leader. I'm
- 3:15Speaker 1: kind of a lead by action type person, but I
- 3:17Speaker 1: was kind of vocal at that point. Plus and I
- 3:19Speaker 1: had some aspirations after the season, so I kind of
- 3:21Speaker 1: needed everybody. Yeah, I wanted to win, but I kind
- 3:25Speaker 1: of needed to happen to keep going. So I get
- 3:27Speaker 1: you know, get more film about that from Scott to Sea.
- 3:29Speaker 1: But you know, we brought it together and kind of
- 3:32Speaker 1: looked at each other and man and man and we
- 3:35Speaker 1: just you know, we just banded together and decided, you know,
- 3:37Speaker 1: we had a big ad mission and we wanted, you know, something,
- 3:39Speaker 1: wanted to accomplish man, and we got it done. So
- 3:42Speaker 1: that's absolutely true because you know, for a fact, the
- 3:45Speaker 1: winning National championship two thousand and eight versus not winning it.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It's a difference between being a forefround draft pick maybe
- 3:52Speaker 1: a seventh round draft pick or being an undrafted free agent. Correct,
- 3:57Speaker 1: especially especially at the level of which I played. We
- 4:00Speaker 1: played at the FCS level, which is back then it
- 4:02Speaker 1: was called the one double A level, So we kind
- 4:04Speaker 1: of we had to prove ourselves. You know, there's a
- 4:07Speaker 1: there's a question about level competition came to play against. Yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 1: you know, from the bigger school, So you want to
- 4:13Speaker 1: get as much film, as much tape out there as possible.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And not only for myself, you know, us making that run,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you know, gave other people on the team opportunities and
- 4:21Speaker 1: to get seen that. We had guys who signed this
- 4:23Speaker 1: free agents. Uh that played a few years in the
- 4:25Speaker 1: league as well. So it just was it was big
- 4:27Speaker 1: for everybody. Now that that's now, I'm just talking about
- 4:31Speaker 1: college and two thousand they win the national championship. Is
- 4:33Speaker 1: Richmond University of Talking to Lawrence Sidbury Jr. For a
- 4:36Speaker 1: frown draft tick back then in two thousand and nine.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So preparing for the draft, how did you prepare for
- 4:41Speaker 1: the draft and then when you got drafted? How did
- 4:45Speaker 1: that change your life financially? Uh? He got me going
- 4:49Speaker 1: way back in the see, so come on down for
- 4:51Speaker 1: the preparing for the draft was like it was a
- 4:54Speaker 1: world win for me because you know, in college we
- 4:56Speaker 1: actually played sixteen games with the regular season and the layoffs. Um.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Then it was I played in two All Star games.
- 5:03Speaker 1: So I played in the Trine Game and also played
- 5:05Speaker 1: in the Senior Bowl, and I went. I did all that,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and I went to New Jersey and Pure C Speed school.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Uh I trained for the Combine. And uh I went
- 5:14Speaker 1: to the Combine ran the fastest for they had all
- 5:16Speaker 1: the defensive mends there. I really was kind of tired.
- 5:19Speaker 1: My body never really got arrest. Um. And then after
- 5:23Speaker 1: that this protoy workout was like what's going on right now?
- 5:26Speaker 1: So it's the whole game of things that had to
- 5:28Speaker 1: be done before April. Then once you get drafted, you know, yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 1: I got drafted the fourth round. It was considerable sign
- 5:35Speaker 1: up onest, and then I see, you wake up, you
- 5:40Speaker 1: wake up one day and don't have any money. You
- 5:42Speaker 1: wake up the next day you do have some money.
- 5:43Speaker 1: So it's it does change that Lauren. So so I I,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know, you have the first round, So did you
- 5:48Speaker 1: have an idea through your agent round you may go.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Uh I thought that it was a chance that I
- 5:56Speaker 1: would go on the second, but we were predicting anywhere
- 5:59Speaker 1: between kind of two to five, and I happened to
- 6:01Speaker 1: be the facons in the foreth round. So you sitting
- 6:05Speaker 1: there and I'm just going through the emotion because what
- 6:07Speaker 1: happens is people in life have so many emotions. They
- 6:10Speaker 1: have certain dreams and when they don't, like you said,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you thinking about the second but now the second pass,
- 6:16Speaker 1: third pass? Where were you aty emotionally? And then the
- 6:20Speaker 1: people around you, where were they at emotionally prior to
- 6:23Speaker 1: the selection? Um, you know, I didn't really have too
- 6:26Speaker 1: many people there. Actually, what I did the first day
- 6:29Speaker 1: because I thought it was a chance that will go
- 6:30Speaker 1: in the second round, actually had coaches throughout my you know,
- 6:34Speaker 1: my life that was influenial to me. Uh. They sat
- 6:37Speaker 1: with me the first day they might be a chance
- 6:39Speaker 1: that my name get called at the end of the
- 6:41Speaker 1: second round. Um, And I did that because of appreciation, man,
- 6:44Speaker 1: because I had a lot of people helped me along
- 6:46Speaker 1: the way, right, and I didn't I didn't know how
- 6:48Speaker 1: to probably do that with my family. So I broke
- 6:50Speaker 1: it up in two days. So they sat with me
- 6:52Speaker 1: the first night. I was a little dejected at first.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Then the second day game, I didn't know what was
- 6:57Speaker 1: gonna happen. I didn't have many people at the house. Uh.
- 7:00Speaker 1: And then once in the name got called, people start
- 7:02Speaker 1: coming over and the cookout stuff because I know, because
- 7:06Speaker 1: this is gonna air as we're leading up to the
- 7:09Speaker 1: fame NFL Draft. So I wanted to I'm asking you
- 7:12Speaker 1: some questions to understand that mindset and so people can
- 7:15Speaker 1: understand that mindset because you know they fly in the
- 7:18Speaker 1: first round draft picks. You know they will get to
- 7:20Speaker 1: walk on stage. But really the workhouses of this league
- 7:25Speaker 1: is the people who are not the first round draft picks.
- 7:27Speaker 1: They undrafted the draft picks. And so you drafted, you
- 7:31Speaker 1: come on the team and Atlanta Factors in the city
- 7:34Speaker 1: of Atlanta, you still stand in the city of Atlanta.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm assuming correct. Atlanta brought you in and you have
- 7:39Speaker 1: not left. This is where you do your business. So
- 7:42Speaker 1: what what were the positives other than just having a
- 7:45Speaker 1: plan for the Atlanta Falcons and what did they do
- 7:48Speaker 1: to help you transition out of the NFL playing for
- 7:51Speaker 1: the Atlanta Factons. You know, I started working on my
- 7:54Speaker 1: transition while I was so active. So the the association
- 8:00Speaker 1: in the LEADU they have, but you know, they have
- 8:02Speaker 1: a bunch of programs that guys can take advantage of
- 8:04Speaker 1: in the off season. They have business management, entrepreneurship programs,
- 8:08Speaker 1: guys can go back and their degrees. UM, there's internships
- 8:11Speaker 1: and externships you can do. So I tried to stay
- 8:14Speaker 1: active UM as much as possible each off season. So
- 8:17Speaker 1: even if I, you know, travel worked out, have fun,
- 8:20Speaker 1: always made sure I did something to enrich myself. So
- 8:23Speaker 1: I I did two business management UH programs, one awarding
- 8:26Speaker 1: Business School and you can and wanted kell All Business
- 8:29Speaker 1: School and Northwestern I did those. I did two internships UM,
- 8:33Speaker 1: one with under Armour at one of the events DC
- 8:36Speaker 1: and Washington d C. And then UH prior of too
- 8:39Speaker 1: conclusion of my career as she started my NBA UH
- 8:42Speaker 1: while I was still playing at University of Indiana Online
- 8:44Speaker 1: and finished it as soon as I got done. So
- 8:46Speaker 1: I just did a pretty good job of taking advantage
- 8:48Speaker 1: of the resources that were there so that my transition
- 8:51Speaker 1: would be a little bit easier. So I wouldn't get
- 8:53Speaker 1: to the end and be like, Okay, I'm done, Now
- 8:55Speaker 1: what do I do? Because there's always that startup pier well,
- 8:57Speaker 1: that's always that period I'm sorry. We just have to
- 9:00Speaker 1: kind of figure it out. So why not try to
- 9:02Speaker 1: get it figured out a little bit earlier so you're
- 9:03Speaker 1: not caught behind the eight ball. Wants some check stuff.
- 9:06Speaker 1: But so many get caught behind the eight ball, so
- 9:09Speaker 1: many don't see the incoming Is it is it? It's
- 9:13Speaker 1: just just youth because you've seen their figured it out.
- 9:16Speaker 1: You know, you played and you realize that, hey, there
- 9:19Speaker 1: is a stopping point to this. Let me take this
- 9:21Speaker 1: money and not spending on everything or every good party
- 9:24Speaker 1: or every good car or every good house you want
- 9:27Speaker 1: those things. What was it? Was it role models on
- 9:30Speaker 1: the team or just you know, your your your parenting
- 9:33Speaker 1: background that allowed you to be able to uh support
- 9:36Speaker 1: these ideas and see things a lot clearer than the
- 9:38Speaker 1: average person your age. I look a combination all of that.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I did have both my parents were there, which is
- 9:46Speaker 1: no today's world unfortunately not as common. So they did
- 9:50Speaker 1: teach me a lot, kept me grounded. I did develop
- 9:54Speaker 1: relationships within the locker room. You know, guys, you know
- 9:57Speaker 1: that was a little bit smarter. You know that's that
- 10:00Speaker 1: we're kind of moving, you know, outside of football, but
- 10:04Speaker 1: not not really doing too much. You don't want to
- 10:05Speaker 1: be seen as someone who just not focused on your craft.
- 10:08Speaker 1: But the fact is there's there's gonna be him. There's
- 10:13Speaker 1: only one player that's playing well into his sporties right now,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and that's Tom Bray. Everyone else you know, you're gonna
- 10:20Speaker 1: you're gonna retire. The game is gonna be done with
- 10:21Speaker 1: you before you're done with it. Um. But there's also
- 10:25Speaker 1: see your point, there's a guys are getta a lot smarter.
- 10:28Speaker 1: You know, you're seeing guys kind of walking away early.
- 10:31Speaker 1: You don't want to do don't want to damn with
- 10:32Speaker 1: their bodies as much. This guy's taking advantage of some
- 10:35Speaker 1: of these programs. Um, probably not as much, you know
- 10:40Speaker 1: as when they get done. But they are all guys
- 10:41Speaker 1: who focus on, you know, what's going on after they
- 10:43Speaker 1: understand the business, like the business of the league is.
- 10:46Speaker 1: You're telling you abody every day on TV. Guys using
- 10:48Speaker 1: their job because of contract situations, capt room, not necessarily
- 10:51Speaker 1: because of their talent, because of the business. So you
- 10:54Speaker 1: gotta respect as a business and you gotta handle your
- 10:56Speaker 1: business now. You you grew up in your career group
- 11:00Speaker 1: in the era of social media. You know, you know,
- 11:04Speaker 1: I I know when I was managed Steve Harvey. Uh.
- 11:07Speaker 1: When social media we had like a big old fan
- 11:09Speaker 1: club about me and people. We didn't give a hood
- 11:12Speaker 1: about social media because we have fan club members. Now
- 11:15Speaker 1: you did. I'm sure you use social media as a player,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and now you as a as a businessman. You're a businessman,
- 11:22Speaker 1: how do you use social media to grow your business
- 11:25Speaker 1: or promote your business? I'm still still trying to figure
- 11:29Speaker 1: that out because I'm in a transportation transportation industry, so
- 11:34Speaker 1: there's really not much social media needed. And I'm saying
- 11:38Speaker 1: that because I'm young in this game. I'm less than
- 11:40Speaker 1: a year end. I really haven't quite found out how
- 11:43Speaker 1: I can really leverage uh my social media page, um
- 11:47Speaker 1: to my business unless I moved into the consultan area,
- 11:50Speaker 1: which I am starting to do UM. But I will
- 11:52Speaker 1: say I didn't take the advantage of social media as
- 11:55Speaker 1: much as I should as a player that I've always
- 11:57Speaker 1: been like a private person. I kind of didn't want
- 11:58Speaker 1: to just do some much. But now that I'm done,
- 12:01Speaker 1: I wish I would have done that a little a
- 12:02Speaker 1: little bit more. Playing a bust that left for a million,
- 12:05Speaker 1: left with a million, I wish I would have used it.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I wish I would have used a little bit more
- 12:09Speaker 1: while I was planned to grow my following. But uh
- 12:14Speaker 1: but um, you know, but it's it's not it's not
- 12:18Speaker 1: hurting performance performers of our company is kind of helping it, bro,
- 12:24Speaker 1: But I wish I would have been a lot more
- 12:25Speaker 1: acts to grow that follow up sippline. Now it's finally here,
- 12:29Speaker 1: the season of celebration, and no matter how you celebrate
- 12:33Speaker 1: with family and friends, whether you're preparing for reys magos
- 12:36Speaker 1: or Karamu lighting the Manura, are going to midnight mass,
- 12:40Speaker 1: Coals has just what you need to make those traditions special.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Plus you'll find gifts for all your loved ones. Send
- 12:47Speaker 1: warm wishes with Cozy Fleece's sweaters, loungeware, blankets and throws.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Support minority owned or founded brands by giving gifts from
- 12:55Speaker 1: Human Nation and shame moisture, or treat them to everyone's
- 12:59Speaker 1: favorite act of wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and under Armour. And in the spirit of giving, Coals
- 13:06Speaker 1: Cares is donating eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide
- 13:10Speaker 1: committed to the health and well being of our communities.
- 13:13Speaker 1: No matter how you celebrate, when you shop at Coals
- 13:16Speaker 1: you're right where you belong. So this season give with
- 13:20Speaker 1: all your heart with great gifts from Coals or Coals
- 13:23Speaker 1: dot com. And we're live here outside the Perez family home,
- 13:27Speaker 1: just waiting for the And there they go, almost on time.
- 13:30Speaker 1: This morning. Mom is coming off the front door, strong
- 13:33Speaker 1: with a double arm kid carry. Looks like dad has
- 13:36Speaker 1: the bags. Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh but
- 13:39Speaker 1: the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Oh but mom has just nailed the perfect car seat
- 13:48Speaker 1: buckle for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who
- 13:51Speaker 1: looks to be about nine or ten, has secured herself
- 13:54Speaker 1: in the booster seat. Dad zips the bad clothes and
- 13:57Speaker 1: they're off. But looks like Mom does realize your coffee
- 14:01Speaker 1: cup is still on the roof of the car, and
- 14:03Speaker 1: very goes, Oh, that's a shame. That mug was a
- 14:07Speaker 1: fan favorite. Don't sweat the small stuff, just nail the
- 14:10Speaker 1: big stuff, like making sure your kids are buckled correctly
- 14:13Speaker 1: in the right seat for their agent's eyes. Learn more

- 14:50Speaker 1: Brought to you by the United States Forest Service and
- 14:52Speaker 1: the AD Council. First of all, this is not a
- 14:55Speaker 1: negative conversation. But you know, all my life I dealt
- 14:59Speaker 1: with talent like you, you know, marketing brand and and
- 15:02Speaker 1: and talk to them about who they are. Let's talk
- 15:04Speaker 1: about you now. It's not about your business, Lawrence. It's
- 15:07Speaker 1: about you, Okay, you know that. That's what this conversation about.
- 15:11Speaker 1: This is about the money making conversation is that your
- 15:14Speaker 1: social media post really is translates into what you're doing
- 15:18Speaker 1: with your foundation and with your businesses and the employees
- 15:22Speaker 1: and how you're growing. And so that's the story that
- 15:25Speaker 1: you want to tell on your social media. That's the
- 15:27Speaker 1: story I want to hear about your success story, what
- 15:30Speaker 1: you're doing and changing the community. That's what your point
- 15:33Speaker 1: of view because you are a brand. And so that's
- 15:37Speaker 1: what I did with Steve Harvey. You know, I had
- 15:40Speaker 1: the brand conversation because I used to work for IBM,
- 15:42Speaker 1: so I knew about a corporate philosophy and I felt
- 15:46Speaker 1: that why can't individual have that same standards? And so
- 15:51Speaker 1: a lot of people throw the word brand out. I
- 15:52Speaker 1: don't I know where it came from, because I started
- 15:54Speaker 1: using problem it for anybody. So when I look at
- 15:56Speaker 1: you and you said wherever Sean, you know, you know, uh,
- 16:00Speaker 1: you know, I don't know about promoting my company. I'm
- 16:02Speaker 1: not asking you to promote your company. I'm talking about you.
- 16:06Speaker 1: And if we talk about you, your company gonna get promoted,
- 16:08Speaker 1: and all your brands and all your tentacles of success
- 16:11Speaker 1: will get promoted. So as we go through this conversation
- 16:14Speaker 1: today and you hang up, I want you to hang
- 16:16Speaker 1: up and step off the call and go. You know
- 16:18Speaker 1: what he's saying. He's saying, it's all about me. It's
- 16:21Speaker 1: not about my foundation over there, it's not about my
- 16:24Speaker 1: my trucking business. It's about me. So if I focus
- 16:27Speaker 1: it's about me, then guess what everything makes sense. And
- 16:30Speaker 1: That's what I'm asking you to do when it comes
- 16:33Speaker 1: to your social media because you could have left with
- 16:36Speaker 1: social media followers from football, but guess what that have
- 16:39Speaker 1: been football social media followers. You are a businessman, and
- 16:43Speaker 1: I'm asking you, as a businessman to understand how much
- 16:45Speaker 1: value you're bringing to the table as a brand. Does
- 16:48Speaker 1: that make sense? Cool? Now, let's talk about these companies
- 16:52Speaker 1: I've been talking about. Do we want to go to
- 16:54Speaker 1: the foundation conversation first or or the trucking business first?
- 16:57Speaker 1: Which one you want to do? Let go? Let's go.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Let's go to the UH Foundation. That's actually one of
- 17:03Speaker 1: most product that Well, I'm gon tell you something, Lawrence.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I'm proud of everything you do. You made the transition
- 17:08Speaker 1: because I talk to you many, so you've done a
- 17:12Speaker 1: lot of mature things in your life. And also you
- 17:14Speaker 1: understand how you got here. And so you you you
- 17:18Speaker 1: self educated yourself. You could have you could have just
- 17:21Speaker 1: not self educated yourself. But you say, I want to
- 17:24Speaker 1: take advantage of the values, and you take advantage of
- 17:27Speaker 1: the coaching. You're taking advantage of the good parenting. And
- 17:29Speaker 1: then you got over here and you took advantage of
- 17:32Speaker 1: being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. So you have a
- 17:35Speaker 1: you have a d n inside of you is that
- 17:37Speaker 1: if you give you an option, you're gonna use it
- 17:40Speaker 1: to be a positive. And so that's a quality inside
- 17:43Speaker 1: of you, man, that not many people have, and I
- 17:45Speaker 1: just want to point that out to you. Now let's
- 17:47Speaker 1: talk about now. Yeah, I want you to hear that, man,
- 17:49Speaker 1: because a lot of people I get to talk to
- 17:51Speaker 1: a lot of people I get to uh, and I've
- 17:54Speaker 1: had a lot of layers of success in my life,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and I've been successful with a lot of different people,
- 17:58Speaker 1: actors and entrepreneurs and business owners and corporate leaders and
- 18:01Speaker 1: all that the quality that stands out to you. And
- 18:04Speaker 1: I was happy to get back on the go do
- 18:06Speaker 1: another interview with you, was to tell you that because
- 18:09Speaker 1: you're a grinder and a grinder and oftentimes doesn't appreciate
- 18:15Speaker 1: what they are accomplishing. And so you sail, I'm really
- 18:18Speaker 1: proud of the foundation. Brother, I'm proud of the foundation
- 18:20Speaker 1: because you've taken time to get back but all shoot,
- 18:23Speaker 1: you're employing people, you're paying taxes, You've been a functional
- 18:27Speaker 1: person that this country often says about people of color
- 18:30Speaker 1: don't do. So proud of you, man, Thank you man.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I appreciate that. Now, let's talk about this a found dation.
- 18:38Speaker 1: How is this started? Why? Man, it's actually the foundation.
- 18:42Speaker 1: That's something that I've been one to do for a
- 18:45Speaker 1: long time. When I when I played a battle with
- 18:48Speaker 1: starting my own foundational partner with somebody. So when I
- 18:50Speaker 1: was a player partner with Big Brothers, Big exists. But
- 18:53Speaker 1: now that I'm you know, I've done, um, I still
- 18:56Speaker 1: had that urge just to want to just empower people
- 18:59Speaker 1: to just know, man, you really can do anything you
- 19:02Speaker 1: set your mind to it. There's no limits. Hence the
- 19:05Speaker 1: name Zero Limitations Foundation. A lot of times people may
- 19:08Speaker 1: lack an example. It may not have to drive, and
- 19:11Speaker 1: you might can say or show somebody that one thing
- 19:13Speaker 1: that can spark them into greatness. And that's really that's
- 19:16Speaker 1: really what I believe. I tell my friends all the time.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Sometimes I think I'm preaching out it, but I really
- 19:20Speaker 1: just true to believe you can do anything. You can
- 19:22Speaker 1: do anything set your mind to. But some sometimes people
- 19:25Speaker 1: just need they may need that one thing, a little
- 19:27Speaker 1: bit of help. So uh, you know, we we we
- 19:30Speaker 1: started with a food give way around the holiday time, um,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you know because of COVID and people you know, just
- 19:36Speaker 1: you know, just food and security. But as we move forward,
- 19:38Speaker 1: and we were really working towards programming, scholarships, mentorship programs,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and just I'm really passing about this developing people. I
- 19:46Speaker 1: just I just feel like everyone could do their best
- 19:48Speaker 1: as a place for everybody this world to be successful with,
- 19:50Speaker 1: contrary to probably believe. And with that being said, zero limitation,
- 19:55Speaker 1: that's a problem. How did you come up with that?
- 20:00Speaker 1: You know? Actually I named it the large city very
- 20:01Speaker 1: ja I you need, you need something else, something catching.
- 20:07Speaker 1: So it took me a few days to uh to
- 20:10Speaker 1: come up with it, right, And at first I was thinking, though,
- 20:14Speaker 1: lives like man, you can't use that. He might come back.
- 20:16Speaker 1: He will come after you. He will come back to you.
- 20:19Speaker 1: He said, Master might come at you. So zero limitations foundation.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Once once I said it the first time, that was it,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and uh, that was it. That's how I came up
- 20:28Speaker 1: with it. Okay, cool, Now that's awesome. Now how does
- 20:31Speaker 1: one become a part of it? Is in the age
- 20:34Speaker 1: group that you're dealing with, or is it the annual event?
- 20:37Speaker 1: Is a summary event what exactly comes out of your foundation?
- 20:41Speaker 1: Right now, we're gonna keep everybody updated on programming. So
- 20:44Speaker 1: right now, the first thing we have going on, we
- 20:45Speaker 1: partnered with a high school on what we're gonna actually be.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I'm actually gonna be giving scholarships to uh some of
- 20:51Speaker 1: the students who perform well um and they aspirationally go
- 20:55Speaker 1: to college, and we're gonna help. We're gonna have quill
- 20:57Speaker 1: some of that financial needs. Eventually, one day I want
- 20:59Speaker 1: to get to the point where I can pay someone's
- 21:01Speaker 1: entire scholarship. But we're not there yet. We're working there,
- 21:03Speaker 1: but we're gonna start with these scholars first, and we're
- 21:06Speaker 1: gonna start uh some mentor programs throughout the summer. So
- 21:09Speaker 1: just you can. You can visit us at a zero
- 21:12Speaker 1: limitations order and you can sign up and put your
- 21:15Speaker 1: email in. You can also donate there and we keep
- 21:18Speaker 1: everybody abreusts on the program that we have coming up. Okay,
- 21:21Speaker 1: you know you're a planner and your goal setting, you
- 21:24Speaker 1: will get there. But I know that about you. Now
- 21:26Speaker 1: you're playing football, you're tackling people. You got that, you
- 21:29Speaker 1: got that little spin that you came up Will tell
- 21:31Speaker 1: us about that A little A little spin that you
- 21:33Speaker 1: came up with? Did you are you developing it? You
- 21:36Speaker 1: don't know what? You don't know what I actually I
- 21:38Speaker 1: have with us have a little football conversation. So like
- 21:41Speaker 1: my head coach at the time, Mike dunder Um, He's like, man,
- 21:45Speaker 1: the scouts looking, they know you fast, and you know
- 21:48Speaker 1: you're trying to get around the edge. You need to
- 21:50Speaker 1: kind of moves. Like damn, I'm sitting there thinking what
- 21:52Speaker 1: can I work at the time. You know, one of
- 21:55Speaker 1: them two of my favorite rushers at the time. Actually
- 21:57Speaker 1: I got to play with one of them, White Freenie
- 21:59Speaker 1: and Robert Out. Everyone knows if you watch any of that,
- 22:02Speaker 1: this coach coming out guys had this. I was in
- 22:06Speaker 1: college at the time, so I was like, damn, maybe
- 22:09Speaker 1: I can do that one day in practice. I just
- 22:11Speaker 1: I just tried and they work and after that, it
- 22:13Speaker 1: just that's that's the move I went to when I
- 22:16Speaker 1: was in school. Well, you know, you know, you make
- 22:18Speaker 1: me sick, Lauren. You you're so you don't you don't
- 22:21Speaker 1: tell the truth about how talent that you are. Well,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you know, I was just just practice and that's really high.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But you were the fastest defensive end and come back, okay,
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know you you you you just can't do that.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I'm thinking it's a whole lot of people wish they
- 22:37Speaker 1: could just do a spin move and go to a cornerback. Hey,
- 22:40Speaker 1: I'll stop running back. So you we're gonna, we're gonna,
- 22:44Speaker 1: we're gonna have a relationship because what I'm gonna get
- 22:46Speaker 1: you just start doing. Man, is it's all right to
- 22:49Speaker 1: be prime time. It's all right. You know you know
- 22:52Speaker 1: what they know, they're saying church favor. I guess thank
- 22:55Speaker 1: God for that. So so so you got, you got
- 23:01Speaker 1: the moves. You know, you're a man, you're a young man.
- 23:04Speaker 1: And Atlanta, you know, Atlanta is a great capital, a
- 23:08Speaker 1: city for African American men and women. When did you
- 23:12Speaker 1: make the decision? Man? Like you said, you thought the process,
- 23:15Speaker 1: you knew you weren't gonna play. But the business that
- 23:17Speaker 1: you're doing, now, how did that come about? Actually it
- 23:22Speaker 1: started in covid Um. You know, before I got out
- 23:25Speaker 1: the league, I was already started an investments in real estate,
- 23:28Speaker 1: actually living in some properties back in Maryland while where
- 23:31Speaker 1: I'm from, and uh, you know, I had a deal
- 23:34Speaker 1: go south. I was gonna do my first project here
- 23:37Speaker 1: in southwest Atlanta. And you know what, everything shut shut
- 23:39Speaker 1: down like nobody basically by the calendar year from from today.
- 23:43Speaker 1: You know, the real estate market is doing well now,
- 23:46Speaker 1: but everyone was not. Everyone was certain how things will
- 23:48Speaker 1: go about the banks pulling funder. The bank guy was
- 23:51Speaker 1: dealing with they pulled a fund and they put the
- 23:52Speaker 1: funding on the new construction project. I had, so what's that.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I kind of had my back nest the wall, but
- 23:57Speaker 1: I just knew it. I had to do something. Essentially,
- 24:00Speaker 1: something catastrophic was to happen again, I'll be in in
- 24:03Speaker 1: a central industry and I can continue to make money.
- 24:06Speaker 1: And prior to that, I had spoken to a college
- 24:08Speaker 1: teammate who would just jump into the transportation industry. Maybe
- 24:11Speaker 1: bout a year ago. I just met which is now
- 24:13Speaker 1: a good friend of mine. Uh, probably about a month before,
- 24:17Speaker 1: and I took the information that they both gave me.
- 24:19Speaker 1: I put it together and I started Clipper Logistics, And man,
- 24:22Speaker 1: it's been It's been probably the biggest blessing in my life.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Like I said, I've been able to employ people. I
- 24:26Speaker 1: just just grow to the point I just hired an assistant. Um,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I've been able to give a black of people jobs. Man.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I can't say enough. Man, just it's been the best
- 24:35Speaker 1: thing that happened to me. It's a scalable business and
- 24:37Speaker 1: still be able to provide opportunity. So it's just a
- 24:40Speaker 1: win win all the way around. Okay, I again, Clipper Logistics.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Where did that come from? Again? I always have coming
- 24:48Speaker 1: up with names. I just I didn't want to use
- 24:50Speaker 1: my name. It's like it's typical and I kind of
- 24:53Speaker 1: want to detach myself under business a little bit. But
- 24:57Speaker 1: the clippers Clippers is actually my high school mascot my hospital.
- 25:00Speaker 1: We were the Ox and Hill Clippers. So I said
- 25:02Speaker 1: Clipper Logistics, and it just it just went, so I
- 25:05Speaker 1: went with it. Always fall I always fall into the
- 25:08Speaker 1: names of the never you know you're about to get
- 25:13Speaker 1: beat up by masterp. Okay, then you went back to
- 25:15Speaker 1: your high school got and stole the clippers. Second generation.
- 25:22Speaker 1: That's that's another one of your business, correct, Yeah, that's
- 25:25Speaker 1: that's the LC I run. Uh you know my real
- 25:28Speaker 1: estate projects too. That was pretty simple, right. My parents,
- 25:31Speaker 1: uh you know, they probably the first people in our
- 25:34Speaker 1: family kind of start you know, owning properties, right, and
- 25:38Speaker 1: uh I came back to them. So second generation development,
- 25:41Speaker 1: that one was. That was pretty easy. I knew the
- 25:43Speaker 1: name of that one before before I got started. I
- 25:45Speaker 1: shouldn't take there's truly the name about you because your
- 25:50Speaker 1: second generation. Right. I love it. I love it, Lawrence. Man.
- 25:54Speaker 1: You uh, you're humble, You're absolutely correct about them. You're talented,
- 25:59Speaker 1: you want don't want to admit that, you're very smart.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Somehow you don't want to admit that. And guess what,
- 26:04Speaker 1: you're special and somehow you don't want admit that. But
- 26:07Speaker 1: all those things I just said, man, makes you in
- 26:09Speaker 1: an incredible brand. And please, man, start telling people about
- 26:14Speaker 1: that man in your social media post and let everybody
- 26:16Speaker 1: understand how you're shining in the pandemic times in African American. Man,
- 26:22Speaker 1: there's a doing it and paying taxes out there and
- 26:24Speaker 1: making the difference in this country, not only for your life,
- 26:26Speaker 1: for people that you don't know. And I think that's
- 26:28Speaker 1: the blessing that you are. I appreciate. I really do. Hey, brother,
- 26:34Speaker 1: looking at it. Man. I had to get back on
- 26:36Speaker 1: with you, man, because you know, the thing about you,
- 26:39Speaker 1: Lawrence is that man. Um. You know, when I meet
- 26:42Speaker 1: people like you, Man, it's a blessing to me to
- 26:45Speaker 1: be even had this conversation. But the gifts that I have,
- 26:47Speaker 1: the Guard gave me was to be able to motivate
- 26:50Speaker 1: people also tell the truth. And so when I talk
- 26:53Speaker 1: to you about your gifts and talk to you about
- 26:56Speaker 1: what you're doing. I'm just asking you to take one
- 26:58Speaker 1: more step, and the next step is about you and
- 27:01Speaker 1: when you tart telling your story. And that's what we're
- 27:03Speaker 1: doing today. Hey man, I'm going I'm in the way
- 27:05Speaker 1: back machine. You gotta be going way back to two
- 27:07Speaker 1: thousand and eight, because, man, you have a career that's
- 27:11Speaker 1: worth telling you. You've transitioned into a UH academia person
- 27:16Speaker 1: and an athlete. Now you're a businessman, you're philanthropist. That's
- 27:20Speaker 1: a lot of powerful titles. That's a lot of power
- 27:23Speaker 1: that you own. Oh And sometimes I really and I
- 27:28Speaker 1: gotta do better at this. I get caught up and
- 27:31Speaker 1: like you said, to grind and trying to build something
- 27:33Speaker 1: you know, you know, really to leave you know, after
- 27:36Speaker 1: I'm gone, right, And sometimes I'm guilty of not cherishing
- 27:40Speaker 1: the moment. Like I'm guilty. I know I've been told that,
- 27:43Speaker 1: and I really, honestly, I'm just sitting back a couple
- 27:45Speaker 1: of days ago, reallything, having this exact same conversation UH
- 27:49Speaker 1: with a friend of mine, and sometimes just I just
- 27:53Speaker 1: I get so caught up. I just don't I gotta
- 27:55Speaker 1: do better. I really gotta do better. I know you appreciate.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I appreciative, give me uh the push push push, So
- 28:03Speaker 1: I always looky, Laard's call me your life coach. I mean, look,
- 28:06Speaker 1: you had head coaches, assistant coaching. Rishan McDonald's your life coach.
- 28:10Speaker 1: So you go him. I gotta called Mop part Roshan
- 28:13Speaker 1: and run this idea by him. I'm gonna tall you
- 28:15Speaker 1: go ahead and do it because anything you put your
- 28:16Speaker 1: mind to from brand, you're gonna be successful at it.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And that's the part of your genius. And I'm gona
- 28:21Speaker 1: put the word genius on you because layers of success
- 28:25Speaker 1: are not accidental in your life. And but you know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: you know it's interesting how some people who have less
- 28:33Speaker 1: will screamed like they got more. Well, you have more,
- 28:36Speaker 1: and you don't say anything by how you're accomplishing that.
- 28:40Speaker 1: And I want you to go to the front of
- 28:41Speaker 1: the line with that story. All Right, we're gonna get
- 28:44Speaker 1: it done. We're gonna're gonna rap Autter, we get finished.
- 28:46Speaker 1: All right there, Look, your life coach, just foke to you. Okay.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I wanna thank you Lauren for coming on the show
- 28:53Speaker 1: Man telling every about your life, talking about your your career,

- 29:44Speaker 1: about bundling your home on auto in sports three goals
- 29:47Speaker 1: is a hat trick. And when you bundle your home
- 29:49Speaker 1: and auto with Progressive, you get a hat trick of
- 29:51Speaker 1: great savings and around the clock protection. So you might
- 29:53Speaker 1: be thinking, wait, that's two things. A hat trick is three,
- 29:56Speaker 1: but in this metaphor, Great Savings counts as two goals,
- 29:59Speaker 1: and so does around Clock Protection, so it's like four
- 30:02Speaker 1: goals and that's more than three. It's basing math forest
