- 0:13Speaker 1: n Such a Sister, That's when we bonded many many
- 0:16Speaker 1: years ago, ABC's in the Motherhood, and had a recording
- 0:19Speaker 1: role on Foxes The Good Guys. His breakout role was
- 0:22Speaker 1: opposite Denzel Washington and the award winning feature of Glory,
- 0:26Speaker 1: and he started opposite Viola Davis and Tyler Perry's Madea
- 0:29Speaker 1: Goes to Jail. He's on the show today to talk
- 0:31Speaker 1: about this new b et plus First Wives Clubs. First
- 0:35Speaker 1: Wives Clubs, the hilarious new nine episode comedy series that
- 0:38Speaker 1: follows a group of women living in New York City
- 0:41Speaker 1: who created a sisterhood as a result of they failed
- 0:43Speaker 1: marriage trials and tribulations. Please work on the money making conversations.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I know it's called a little brother, good friend, men
- 0:52Speaker 1: t he's all of those things. More importantly, this is
- 0:54Speaker 1: I told him before the show this I was. I
- 0:57Speaker 1: was reluctant to have him sitting next to me because
- 1:00Speaker 1: I love him so much, and I was I would
- 1:02Speaker 1: try to get him the call in, but he showed
- 1:04Speaker 1: up anyway. Please welcome to the show, Rico late oh
- 1:06Speaker 1: Man studio. Man, Man, you got me feeling old. Man
- 1:11Speaker 1: took it back to Gloria. Oh my goodness. Man, guy's
- 1:15Speaker 1: good man. I've been I've been in the game. I
- 1:17Speaker 1: mean you're working actor. I means you're a small business person.
- 1:19Speaker 1: That's true. And that's why I've been letting people know
- 1:22Speaker 1: who coming, specially from entertainment, because I didn't really understand
- 1:25Speaker 1: the value because of social media. You know, it makes you,
- 1:29Speaker 1: guys be entrepreneurs because you can sell your brand and
- 1:32Speaker 1: market your brand and you have the statement, how's the
- 1:35Speaker 1: effect of social media had? You know? Because you started
- 1:37Speaker 1: before social not man long before it. Uh you know,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I was reluctant. I fought toothing now. I mean when
- 1:44Speaker 1: I was doing uh, let's stay together, like man, you
- 1:47Speaker 1: gotta get it. But I ain't doing nothing. I came here.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna act, That's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna
- 1:52Speaker 1: go home. I'm gonna sere with my family and uh man,
- 1:55Speaker 1: when happens, people was opened up fake accounts and I
- 1:57Speaker 1: was laughing about it or whatever. And then this one
- 2:00Speaker 1: individuals started to really interact with people. I think I
- 2:03Speaker 1: was at the Neighborhood Awards went in and uh, he
- 2:07Speaker 1: was was responding toil believe it was LaToya lucking on
- 2:09Speaker 1: my behalf, and so somebody like hit me up. I
- 2:12Speaker 1: think it was my man. Christian Keys was like, hey man,
- 2:14Speaker 1: you really need to do something about this because whoever
- 2:16Speaker 1: this is, this dude is seriously imperson, ain't you. And
- 2:19Speaker 1: so I open up my first account and uh, you know,
- 2:21Speaker 1: it's one of the things. You know, I'm trying to
- 2:23Speaker 1: get better at it because it is a necessary I
- 2:27Speaker 1: don't wanna call it evil, but it's definitely one of
- 2:29Speaker 1: those things that you have to be on top of
- 2:31Speaker 1: your game and the cross social media, but especially today
- 2:33Speaker 1: because sometimes it could determine job. Oh it breaks my heart,
- 2:36Speaker 1: but yes, you know, they're looking at your funds, they're
- 2:38Speaker 1: looking at your your feed, and they kind of they're
- 2:41Speaker 1: seeing what type of reach you have, and so yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 1: there's somebody that's got more reached than you, and that
- 2:47Speaker 1: that that's just so true. And that's so that doesn't
- 2:50Speaker 1: necessarily mean that they have the working skill all the chops.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But because engagement, UM, followers mean something part that your
- 2:59Speaker 1: eyeball halls and has never been proven that is the case,
- 3:02Speaker 1: because otherwise a lot of these people, these amazing following
- 3:06Speaker 1: basis will have platinum albums and want her to million
- 3:09Speaker 1: allar movies. But it does say something that people do
- 3:12Speaker 1: resonate with your voice, with your bread and so so
- 3:15Speaker 1: that's something you're working on as a businessman. You're working
- 3:18Speaker 1: on that. More importantly, I wanted to talk about something
- 3:21Speaker 1: I felt miserably good, the balance life. You know, and
- 3:24Speaker 1: uh and and you you talk about that whenever we
- 3:26Speaker 1: talked about having the balance life, talk about being able
- 3:29Speaker 1: to deal with being a celebrity working actor and having
- 3:33Speaker 1: a balance life. You know, it's tough. I got married,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I got two kids, I got a four year old
- 3:38Speaker 1: and five year old. Um, you know part of why
- 3:40Speaker 1: I actually uh and actually because of you. I remember
- 3:43Speaker 1: when uh, when we first really started working again, you
- 3:46Speaker 1: got of too many in your wing. I was amazed
- 3:48Speaker 1: at the fact that you had a really nice place
- 3:50Speaker 1: in l A. I love it. You had two cards,
- 3:53Speaker 1: you had your airport card, and you had this nice truck.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And you see him and I take the airport. I
- 3:57Speaker 1: just drive out to the airport on Fridays after the
- 3:59Speaker 1: show and then I shoot back home Monday morning. I said, man,
- 4:02Speaker 1: you can do that. I said, you can live in
- 4:04Speaker 1: Houston and work in l A. I never get he said,
- 4:07Speaker 1: ron Rico, you ain't got to give l A all
- 4:09Speaker 1: your money and I and it always stuck in my head.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So I said, when I could, it's gonna caught me
- 4:14Speaker 1: a career back in the A. Get that in two
- 4:16Speaker 1: thousand and eleven, um, And then what happened was, you know,
- 4:19Speaker 1: the BT show I was doing, Let's Stay Together is
- 4:21Speaker 1: shot here, and I literally was blessed to walk right
- 4:24Speaker 1: out of that in the survivrashy More It's it's shot here,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and a few other gigs that I had here. So
- 4:28Speaker 1: my family got really used to dad, you know, going
- 4:30Speaker 1: to work and coming home and um, and so now
- 4:32Speaker 1: I traveled a little bit more. It's been it's been
- 4:34Speaker 1: an adjustment. But listen, it's been many of days where
- 4:37Speaker 1: I've gone to work on a Friday morning and realized
- 4:39Speaker 1: I had, you know that evening off and flew home,
- 4:42Speaker 1: literally booked a flight, went straight from work to the airport,
- 4:45Speaker 1: flew home laterly for one day. I'm back, you know,
- 4:48Speaker 1: back at the airport Sunday. So you know, you just
- 4:50Speaker 1: kind of suck it up. You do what you gotta
- 4:52Speaker 1: do to get back to the family. It's tough, but
- 4:55Speaker 1: it's it's you know, it's what you gotta do. So
- 4:58Speaker 1: I try to keep a balance and been fortunate to
- 5:01Speaker 1: do so. It's really important because of the fact that
- 5:03Speaker 1: what's that shutdown time? Because if you throw to the
- 5:07Speaker 1: brand and we just entertainment, it can be fracturing. You know.
- 5:11Speaker 1: We we think we headed down this road and of longevity,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and they can pull the carpet on it. So that's
- 5:16Speaker 1: why that balance is important. Yea, I was looking at
- 5:20Speaker 1: Jobio and so it was talking about directing. Yes, okay,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and that's I've read that now. Just my eyes went, Okay,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I gotta talk to him about this because it's a
- 5:29Speaker 1: it's it seems to be a natural for you talk
- 5:32Speaker 1: to me about it. Um, I don't you know if
- 5:34Speaker 1: quite has kept I've been wanting the direct now that
- 5:36Speaker 1: you mentioned it. Man. One of the second film I
- 5:38Speaker 1: did was Glory, Uh with Denzel you know, it's a
- 5:42Speaker 1: wig director that Matthew Brodery and Morgan Freeman starts, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 1: the stellic cast. But I can honestly say I was
- 5:47Speaker 1: interested in directing back then. I remember coming back and
- 5:50Speaker 1: comes to my friends and man, we're gonna make a
- 5:51Speaker 1: little movie. And I had contest man, I Fisher Price.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You know Fisher Prices, but Fisher Price made this little
- 5:58Speaker 1: cheap cam quarter uh. And he said, I was like,
- 6:00Speaker 1: this is what we're gonna do. Man'm gonna put you.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I think it was my home I had a Homeboy
- 6:03Speaker 1: na't Joe, and home One ain't Leon. I said, Joan,
- 6:05Speaker 1: put you in the shopping cart, man, and we're gonna
- 6:07Speaker 1: do a dolly shot and we're just gonna roll down
- 6:09Speaker 1: the sidewalk. It's like eleven or twelve years old. So
- 6:11Speaker 1: it's been in my blood. One of direct man every
- 6:14Speaker 1: show minus Sister Sister, and he didn't really start to
- 6:16Speaker 1: like bets, let's stay together. I started biting at the
- 6:19Speaker 1: bit man trying to get them to let me direct.
- 6:21Speaker 1: It didn't work out. Begging on Survivors and Wars. You know,
- 6:25Speaker 1: we're gonna let you do. You know, fifth season, fifth season.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I didn't get a fifth season, so I can't get
- 6:29Speaker 1: a chance to direct there. But I was fortunate to
- 6:31Speaker 1: direct the short film Um. Actually one of my coach
- 6:33Speaker 1: stars Jessie Usher, another good brother, Kelling the King. They
- 6:37Speaker 1: formed the production company got hold of a really really
- 6:40Speaker 1: nice short film and I literally had told I said, listen,
- 6:43Speaker 1: I realized that, you know, you got put stuff out
- 6:46Speaker 1: in the universe. And when that opportunity come now, you know.
- 6:49Speaker 1: And I hadn't said no to a few other things,
- 6:50Speaker 1: but I said to myself, I said, God, if I'm
- 6:52Speaker 1: giving the opportunity to direct, I don't care what it is.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I'm saying yes, sight unseen. And I did. When they
- 6:58Speaker 1: called me if, I was like, yep, I ain't read
- 7:00Speaker 1: the script. I was just like, I'm gonna do it.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And that was a heavy piece. It was a dramatic piece,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but it confirmed everything in me, like directing is That's
- 7:08Speaker 1: what I want to do. Now let's go back to
- 7:10Speaker 1: you and I really let um you know, sister um um,
- 7:16Speaker 1: young talented guy comes in. Yeah, still young and talent
- 7:21Speaker 1: when that resume says otherwise, And we cast you as
- 7:28Speaker 1: a love interest for one of the twins Tea in
- 7:30Speaker 1: Tomrrow and and it was just it was like really
- 7:35Speaker 1: big opportunity, but there were no guarantees, and you just
- 7:38Speaker 1: was to me, was just on on this huge learning curve.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I just wanted to soak up so much information tell
- 7:44Speaker 1: us about that that time frame and leading up to
- 7:47Speaker 1: where you're at right now. Well, but I was a
- 7:48Speaker 1: fresh out of water man. I think I had blown
- 7:51Speaker 1: an audition probably a month before for motion. I had
- 7:55Speaker 1: froze up and got all the way to produce a
- 7:58Speaker 1: session with those y'all don't know your succession is like
- 8:01Speaker 1: like the final final audition, and and if you're not,
- 8:05Speaker 1: if you've never been in one, it can be very overwhelming.
- 8:07Speaker 1: That room you know, probably had you can have anywhere
- 8:11Speaker 1: from ten to fifteen people, writers, directors and lots of
- 8:15Speaker 1: right in there. So it was it was overwhelming, and
- 8:18Speaker 1: I did. I kind of folded under pressure. So when
- 8:21Speaker 1: sister sister came around, I remember saying, listen, if I
- 8:24Speaker 1: get this opportunity again, I'm knocking out the park and
- 8:27Speaker 1: uh it Rashana. He made it sound real simple, like
- 8:29Speaker 1: I came in audition, I got cast, n they made
- 8:32Speaker 1: your boy jump through the hoops. I probably have four
- 8:35Speaker 1: auditions before I got to read with Tire and U.
- 8:39Speaker 1: You know, I got cast and Uh, I think even
- 8:41Speaker 1: the first day it was it was an adjustment because I,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you know, four camera sitcom is a different beast. You know.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I had started off doing movies in Georgia, so all
- 8:50Speaker 1: those things like they just they didn't compare like what
- 8:53Speaker 1: you have to know, the beats, the energy, the timing,
- 8:56Speaker 1: all of that was just new to me. And and
- 8:58Speaker 1: I did. I hung around. They brought Dean Richmond in
- 9:02Speaker 1: probably later that the course of your Cosm show played,
- 9:05Speaker 1: but and um, and he was great. He was you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: he was you know, we were closer in age. And
- 9:11Speaker 1: I learned a lot from him. I learned a lot
- 9:13Speaker 1: from him, but it took me a minute to find
- 9:15Speaker 1: like what's my funny gonna be? And and you helped
- 9:17Speaker 1: me with that because when you're around really that's that's listen,
- 9:22Speaker 1: when you're around funny people. And if you watch really
- 9:24Speaker 1: like talented people, um, like Martin for example, if you
- 9:27Speaker 1: watched that show a lot of Martin's you know martin isms,
- 9:31Speaker 1: if you will, uh, it becomes infectious and other people
- 9:34Speaker 1: will start to kind of inhabit his his way of
- 9:37Speaker 1: being funny. And you see it a lot of times.
- 9:39Speaker 1: And one of the things I always say to Rashaan
- 9:41Speaker 1: in the in the nicest way, he let me know
- 9:44Speaker 1: that the role that I was going down to kind
- 9:46Speaker 1: of find my comedy, it wasn't right. Like in other words,
- 9:49Speaker 1: I was really just kind of emulating Dion a lot
- 9:52Speaker 1: of times to to kind of to kind of hit
- 9:54Speaker 1: my jokes. And Rashan put me to the side. One
- 9:57Speaker 1: day we was at craft service. He sat me down
- 9:59Speaker 1: on these and I don't know what he's gonna say.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Isn't in my fire? Am I what what's going on?
- 10:04Speaker 1: And he in the most loving like big brother. I'm
- 10:06Speaker 1: gonna get some constructive criticism that it might stink a
- 10:10Speaker 1: little bit right now, but brother man on down the road,
- 10:13Speaker 1: you're really gonna be appreciative. And let me tell you,
- 10:15Speaker 1: it's one of the best piece of advices anyone has
- 10:18Speaker 1: ever given me. And you just told me, listen, here's
- 10:20Speaker 1: your position, here's his position. He can't play your position,
- 10:24Speaker 1: you can't play his. So you just define your position
- 10:27Speaker 1: and play it. And you did. And you did. Brother.
- 10:30Speaker 1: That was some like key advice in my career at
- 10:33Speaker 1: a young age to just make sure I kind of
- 10:36Speaker 1: forged my own path and and you've been doing it
- 10:39Speaker 1: ever since. And that's the beauty of it. What basically,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I was just telling them just listen, just listen. And
- 10:45Speaker 1: that's why a lot of actors fail. They come in
- 10:47Speaker 1: with these pre made up notions off going his role
- 10:50Speaker 1: and what do it like? It's not listening. And one
- 10:52Speaker 1: of his greatest skill set is his ability to comprehend
- 10:55Speaker 1: the moment. That's one I saw that right off. I went,
- 10:57Speaker 1: if you just listen to the scene, then he would win.
- 11:01Speaker 1: And that's all stop stop thinking, you gotta be this
- 11:05Speaker 1: and loud to scene. The evolved and he just was
- 11:07Speaker 1: just fantastic everything. That's why you can share a scene.
- 11:10Speaker 1: We just watching it because back then I had to
- 11:13Speaker 1: say nothing that was mute, but now it was. It
- 11:16Speaker 1: was such a valuable lesson. That's just one of many
- 11:19Speaker 1: that you've that you've been partnered on me. Man, that
- 11:23Speaker 1: absolutely we're here with Rodrico Lee. When this next break,
- 11:25Speaker 1: I gotta do what they told me, I gotta do
- 11:27Speaker 1: what you gotta do. I gotta talk about the first place.
- 11:30Speaker 1: The next break, we'll be back with more of ron
- 11:32Speaker 1: Rico Lee again. I'm so proud. I'm so so happy,
- 11:36Speaker 1: Uh believe me, Man, emotionally just seeing you sit here,
- 11:40Speaker 1: and I remember the times we had in my my
- 11:42Speaker 1: big place in l a Wen. Come by, you come by,
- 11:45Speaker 1: looking outside, you stay here. I go, yeah, this man,
- 11:48Speaker 1: come on inside. But this park at the front man
- 11:52Speaker 1: in that place, it was out steady as this gentleman
- 11:55Speaker 1: sitting next to me. We'll be back with more money
- 11:57Speaker 1: making conversations. Oh this is great. You're listening to money
- 12:00Speaker 1: making conversation. Sitting next to me is running Recoli. He's
- 12:03Speaker 1: here to talk about the hilarious new nine episode commedy
- 12:07Speaker 1: series's on b et Plus. It's about a group of
- 12:09Speaker 1: women in New York City who created a sisterhood as
- 12:12Speaker 1: as a result of their felt marriage, trials and tribulations.
- 12:16Speaker 1: This is a takeoff of an eighteen nine six movie
- 12:18Speaker 1: to start Diane Keaton. Very funny movie by the way,
- 12:21Speaker 1: the movie uh Goldie Han and uh Bette Miller, Yeah yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 1: Bette Miller, and so remake so hard man and then
- 12:29Speaker 1: do then you're doing African American man put another spin
- 12:32Speaker 1: on it. So yeah. Tracy Oliver is e A. C.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Oliver wrote this. She ran the show. Yeah, man, it
- 12:39Speaker 1: was it was cool. I remember when it hit the
- 12:41Speaker 1: trades and you know, you read stuff and you don't
- 12:43Speaker 1: think there about it. And then they sent me. They say, man,
- 12:46Speaker 1: you put yourself on tape, and put myself on tape
- 12:49Speaker 1: and um. And then initially they were like, oh no,
- 12:52Speaker 1: this it's not gonna go as well as like work
- 12:53Speaker 1: and you know everything. And then, especially now that I'm
- 12:55Speaker 1: in Atlanta, have to put myself on tape a lot
- 12:57Speaker 1: of times. There's some tapes you do, and you're like,
- 12:59Speaker 1: there's some tapes you do. You'd be like, all right,
- 13:00Speaker 1: let me. It's what they say about this one because
- 13:03Speaker 1: in my heart of heart, so I felt like I
- 13:05Speaker 1: had I had delivered. However, when they conceived the character,
- 13:08Speaker 1: he was a lot different with me and uh and
- 13:12Speaker 1: so you know, my performance required them to think outside
- 13:15Speaker 1: the box a little bit. And I was very fortunate
- 13:17Speaker 1: that Tracy Oliver and those guys decided, listen, we can
- 13:20Speaker 1: make this work. So I got a call from my manager.
- 13:22Speaker 1: They said, look, don't shave, don't work out, don't get
- 13:25Speaker 1: a haircut. And I thought they had wrote another character
- 13:27Speaker 1: something cause they was trying to find something for me
- 13:29Speaker 1: on the show. And they said no, no, no, they
- 13:31Speaker 1: want you to play Gary. They just they're gonna roughly
- 13:33Speaker 1: up a little bit. I mean they talked about put
- 13:34Speaker 1: me in the fast dude. Uh, they talked about all
- 13:37Speaker 1: kind of stuff. But it was great because they really
- 13:38Speaker 1: get a character a bit of a journey, and that
- 13:40Speaker 1: was the first time that's ever happened. So we had
- 13:42Speaker 1: a good man. We shot in New York at beginning
- 13:44Speaker 1: apartment metro card so like there's nothing like it was
- 13:50Speaker 1: a dream come true. I was there for about three
- 13:52Speaker 1: months and you couldn't tell me anything. Man. We got
- 13:55Speaker 1: to the point where I was I was gonna come
- 13:56Speaker 1: up starting my damn and go here and may have
- 13:58Speaker 1: breakfast on over man, and I'm gonna go, you know,
- 14:00Speaker 1: get back to Brooklyn do this that just you know,
- 14:03Speaker 1: And it was amazing that you could get around that
- 14:06Speaker 1: city like that. We're never getting the car, know the music,
- 14:08Speaker 1: maasing thing. New York is my favorite tip as far
- 14:10Speaker 1: as power. You know, it's just I remember when I've
- 14:14Speaker 1: moved up there to do stand up comedy and I
- 14:16Speaker 1: would come out that subway realized I was in New York.
- 14:19Speaker 1: It's so powerful and the fact that you can you know,
- 14:22Speaker 1: I would tell people you can walk from your apartment
- 14:25Speaker 1: New any by the time you get into the strip light,
- 14:28Speaker 1: you're gonna get some clothes, some foods, man, everything, everything
- 14:31Speaker 1: you need, everything you need because it's that type of city.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And and it gets what by the way, you could
- 14:35Speaker 1: be new and nobody would even think, especially if it's
- 14:40Speaker 1: a certain time of day. But that's New York City.
- 14:43Speaker 1: So going up there for three months, getting to realize
- 14:46Speaker 1: that this is the big apple up there. So meeting
- 14:50Speaker 1: the cast, let's talk about that. Uh you have my girl,
- 14:55Speaker 1: uh just jil yeah yeah yeah uh. And then you
- 14:59Speaker 1: have Ryan Mitchell that day who's married to my man
- 15:03Speaker 1: Sterling and Kay Brown. You had a yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 15:08Speaker 1: I love that dude. Man man, And listen when I
- 15:10Speaker 1: say this, it's however cool you think he is raised
- 15:14Speaker 1: that to like the tenth power, like this cat, all
- 15:17Speaker 1: the accolades, he's made history. But when I tell you
- 15:21Speaker 1: one of the coolest, most humble man, that brother right there,
- 15:24Speaker 1: I gotta beat him because everything I see him and
- 15:27Speaker 1: and he's he's in that special role he's in he's
- 15:30Speaker 1: in the rock, and he's in the next level and
- 15:32Speaker 1: stuff like that. So so that's her husband, that's her husband,
- 15:35Speaker 1: that's her husband, and that we had met at the
- 15:37Speaker 1: image words about a year and a half before so,
- 15:39Speaker 1: and then even then he was cool man, you know.
- 15:41Speaker 1: So So anyway, uh, the one thing about doing self
- 15:45Speaker 1: tapes and things of that nature, they don't require and
- 15:47Speaker 1: then required chemistry read. So I literally flew out to
- 15:49Speaker 1: your very nervous because listen, this I tell people was
- 15:53Speaker 1: First Wives Club and the husbands were optional, like you
- 15:55Speaker 1: know what I mean, they could be interchanged, they could
- 15:57Speaker 1: be cut. We really need them, no, you know, so
- 16:00Speaker 1: I literally when I packed my bags, I didn't wanna
- 16:03Speaker 1: tell my wife what I was doing. I really want
- 16:04Speaker 1: to ma' gonna run out to New York real quick
- 16:06Speaker 1: for this a little audition, but it was ultimately a
- 16:08Speaker 1: table read, and I knew how important it was, you know,
- 16:11Speaker 1: because at the end of the day, Michelle and I
- 16:12Speaker 1: had to have some believable chemistry. So I was really
- 16:16Speaker 1: stressed going into that table read because we hadn't I
- 16:19Speaker 1: never met her before. What was your character? What was so?
- 16:22Speaker 1: Gary is a Gary is an interesting dude. I mean,
- 16:25Speaker 1: he's he's kind of a nerdy, butting up and the glasses.
- 16:31Speaker 1: That's that's Gary Gary. When we meet Gary, Gary is
- 16:33Speaker 1: in the middle of just being a straight nerd. But
- 16:36Speaker 1: the flip side was that he stepped outside of marriage
- 16:39Speaker 1: and he got caught up. And when we when we
- 16:42Speaker 1: discovered he's really fighting to get his family back. So
- 16:44Speaker 1: he's in he's like in one of them, please baby,
- 16:47Speaker 1: baby please. Yeah, and nerdy, nerdy, nerdy on top of that,
- 16:51Speaker 1: and she like, you know what, So she go out
- 16:53Speaker 1: and I think it's the pilot episode. She meet her
- 16:56Speaker 1: somebody and she go out and get her a little
- 16:58Speaker 1: revenge night in and I was at the ball. Yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 1: so you know it's uh, yeah, I know my wife watching.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I didn't know you was. You played the dog in
- 17:08Speaker 1: this and I say, yeah, you know, this is you know,
- 17:10Speaker 1: it's a different role for me. It's interesting that she
- 17:13Speaker 1: says that because, you know, because the character doesn't look
- 17:16Speaker 1: like it will go there. And that's what that's actually
- 17:18Speaker 1: what I liked about it because he definitely and I
- 17:20Speaker 1: think that's what caught uh the bree who has played
- 17:24Speaker 1: by the ship, I think it caught her off, you
- 17:27Speaker 1: know me, Yeah, yeah, but me exactly. But no, he
- 17:33Speaker 1: you know, he fell short and has to well has
- 17:35Speaker 1: to make a man. But yeah, it's it's cool. Man.
- 17:39Speaker 1: The character really goes on the journey, and I kind
- 17:41Speaker 1: of see over nine episodes just in the course of
- 17:43Speaker 1: them trying to repair their marriage. Um, we see him
- 17:46Speaker 1: kind of clean up a little bit, starts to date again,
- 17:49Speaker 1: you know, starts getting kind of a light little trim
- 17:52Speaker 1: and you know, so over time they started, let me
- 17:54Speaker 1: get a little here because that little light, little light
- 17:56Speaker 1: line unto Chris. And so by the time we get
- 17:59Speaker 1: to like that ninth episode, you know, he's on fire.
- 18:02Speaker 1: He's kind of you know he listen, you saw that
- 18:05Speaker 1: the nerdy look. So he had a long and I
- 18:07Speaker 1: don't know if I'm on fire, but he's you know,
- 18:10Speaker 1: there's there's some smoke. There's a lot of smoke because
- 18:14Speaker 1: because I was talking about it because in the beginning
- 18:16Speaker 1: it's a lot of hair on your face. It is.
- 18:18Speaker 1: They wouldn't let me. Oh, I couldn't stand it, man,
- 18:20Speaker 1: And I've never been wanting to have this, like you know, crazy.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I remember must dad was long, man getting untime I
- 18:25Speaker 1: talked to somebody, feel like I had stuff in right
- 18:29Speaker 1: because I was. I was looking at all the all
- 18:30Speaker 1: the clips. I was going like, it's that hair, like yeah, man,
- 18:35Speaker 1: it was. I couldn't stand it. Man. My kids. Was
- 18:37Speaker 1: looking at me like that. He don't cut that because
- 18:39Speaker 1: I was pretty much fine on every weekend. But know
- 18:42Speaker 1: when they first let me get that first little light trim,
- 18:47Speaker 1: But no, it was cool, man. It was nice to
- 18:49Speaker 1: do something where I had to do much hair and makeup.
- 18:52Speaker 1: You know, I just can't get your work put my
- 18:54Speaker 1: clothes on. They because it was early early look very
- 18:58Speaker 1: stylid early. Gary was easy breeze man makeup artists. And
- 19:01Speaker 1: here Stot is loving me. Now, let's talk about the
- 19:04Speaker 1: other characters on the show, Scott's characters. Scott. Yeah, but
- 19:08Speaker 1: all all the women in the show have issues with
- 19:11Speaker 1: their men. They do, they do, they do. That's the
- 19:13Speaker 1: that's the basis of the show. Isn't an empowering show
- 19:16Speaker 1: for women? Oh? Absolutely absolutely, And I love what other
- 19:19Speaker 1: thing it does too. It shows how important sisterhood it
- 19:21Speaker 1: is for women to have each other's bags and listen
- 19:23Speaker 1: to communicate, and their relationships together aren't perfect. So we
- 19:27Speaker 1: kind of see over the course of nine episodes that
- 19:29Speaker 1: they have to deal with some things because in the
- 19:30Speaker 1: beginning there's been some distance between them, and then based
- 19:34Speaker 1: on Jill Scott's character and she kind of gets in
- 19:36Speaker 1: brawled in a bit of a one of those what
- 19:38Speaker 1: do you call them TMZ moments, they all kind of
- 19:41Speaker 1: come to her aid and then at which point we
- 19:43Speaker 1: discover that they're all kind of in the midst of
- 19:46Speaker 1: their own struggles. So it's really it's really dope, Like
- 19:48Speaker 1: it looks at three different relationships, all in the midst
- 19:52Speaker 1: of a bit of a storm. But I like it
- 19:53Speaker 1: because it was a Martyn I yeah, you know the
- 19:58Speaker 1: fact that you could have done that script like when
- 20:00Speaker 1: you add the TMC little the musical ever and things
- 20:03Speaker 1: like that, the lifestyle elements and stuff like that, and
- 20:05Speaker 1: you guys looked to me and felt authentic. Now, interesting
- 20:08Speaker 1: thing about this is that it's on BT plus, the
- 20:11Speaker 1: streaming network. Now, that's what is that? That's that's kind
- 20:14Speaker 1: of what you know, you've been on the cable, you've
- 20:15Speaker 1: been on traditional restaurant TV. Now in that streaming world,
- 20:19Speaker 1: which means that the person can watch all episodes at
- 20:21Speaker 1: one time. Binget, Yes, how's that? That wasn't the take
- 20:24Speaker 1: on that? Well, it's new. And the thing about it
- 20:26Speaker 1: was when we when the show was conceived, it really
- 20:29Speaker 1: wasn't you know, it was kind of conceived that at
- 20:31Speaker 1: a sister network, Paramount Networks. We all signed on. We
- 20:33Speaker 1: were on Paramount Network, and then as we started to
- 20:36Speaker 1: shoot and BT was kind of finalizing their deal to
- 20:38Speaker 1: to kind of launch BT plus, they needed original content,
- 20:41Speaker 1: so they actually, you know, opted to kind of bring
- 20:44Speaker 1: it over to BT plus. It was all very new
- 20:46Speaker 1: to us. As they were kind of lining out the
- 20:48Speaker 1: details of BT Plus, we were learning on the fly.
- 20:51Speaker 1: But I can honestly say I got the app, uh
- 20:54Speaker 1: probably right when it right on the nineteen, and it's
- 20:56Speaker 1: a great app. And and I can honestly say after
- 20:59Speaker 1: going through it and checking out some of the stuff,
- 21:01Speaker 1: it's it's it's really a lot of content. There'll be
- 21:05Speaker 1: more content to come. They got bigger uh, Tyler Pearis
- 21:08Speaker 1: got a show that he's doing not on b T plus,
- 21:10Speaker 1: but I'm sure they'll be offered on there at some point.
- 21:12Speaker 1: But you know, they got there, They got their Housewives
- 21:15Speaker 1: and Housewild. I mean, it's it's a lot of a
- 21:16Speaker 1: lot of a lot of content. Because because I dialloaded
- 21:19Speaker 1: yeah you know, you know, yeah, you go support I know,
- 21:22Speaker 1: because of the fact that that's the brand, that's that's unique. BET.
- 21:25Speaker 1: If they can't stream, nobody can stream from an African
- 21:28Speaker 1: American perspective, and it's also be a place where you
- 21:31Speaker 1: can actually get the home of the African American boars.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And that's this is a signature show with original content
- 21:38Speaker 1: that's being launched on b G Plus, which letting them
- 21:40Speaker 1: know that we're not just bringing you old reruns of
- 21:43Speaker 1: old African American signals from the seventies and the eighties
- 21:46Speaker 1: and the nineties. That's really really wonderful, but it's still
- 21:49Speaker 1: for your brand. That's a that's a new law. It is.
- 21:52Speaker 1: It's different. Uh. You know, obviously we talked about that
- 21:54Speaker 1: social media game plays heavily. You know what I mean,
- 21:57Speaker 1: You gotta get it out there is you know, we
- 21:59Speaker 1: live in a digital but your handles the word double
- 22:02Speaker 1: ry across the board. I g Facebook, Twitter, all that
- 22:05Speaker 1: you hit me up and I'm trying to get better.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I'm trying to get better. But I did. We did
- 22:09Speaker 1: a lot of press in the last couple of weeks
- 22:11Speaker 1: and so I got some posts for that and I'm
- 22:13Speaker 1: and I'm gonna continue. I'm continue the post. I know,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I gotta get better. You will get ready with the
- 22:17Speaker 1: thing about this is that man, some people that's what
- 22:19Speaker 1: they do and you one of those artists. You know
- 22:22Speaker 1: what I'm saying from the standpoint of that you you
- 22:24Speaker 1: were just so worried about which well, I know eventually
- 22:26Speaker 1: you're going to be behindicing, You're gonna be directed, you
- 22:29Speaker 1: gonna be writing and all that because I met that guy.
- 22:33Speaker 1: You know, God is just giving you this path to
- 22:35Speaker 1: be in front of the camera because you're a good
- 22:36Speaker 1: looking God you understand your craft. But brother, I remember
- 22:40Speaker 1: nanty two with Steve Harvey asked me to come on
- 22:44Speaker 1: his show as a writer to sitcom. He said, man,
- 22:45Speaker 1: but you're so talented as a stand up. I said,
- 22:47Speaker 1: but I want to write. I want to produce because
- 22:49Speaker 1: that that that's the path. You know, God can give
- 22:52Speaker 1: you an option to be successful like something. That doesn't
- 22:55Speaker 1: mean that's your ultimately gold. That's your path that you
- 22:57Speaker 1: emotionally driven to go there. So I know any opportunities
- 23:02Speaker 1: that I see that said, hey, man, coming director, coming
- 23:05Speaker 1: system direct, and you're available, I'm gonna call you because
- 23:08Speaker 1: because I read it now, I read it. Let me know, man,
- 23:10Speaker 1: let me know, and I like you said, even assistant directing, shadowing. Man, Listen,
- 23:14Speaker 1: I'm just trying to soak up knowledge. I shadowed a
- 23:17Speaker 1: couple of years back, man, And that's the thing I
- 23:19Speaker 1: continuously put it out there. It's like, I'm like a fit.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I'm a fisherman. I love to fish, ain't I tell you?
- 23:24Speaker 1: And I don't care where I go on set. I
- 23:26Speaker 1: like to let people know that I fished, because that's
- 23:28Speaker 1: how you meet other fisherman. Absolutely by that. By that ration, now,
- 23:31Speaker 1: I like to let people know. Man, I're writing directing
- 23:34Speaker 1: all of that, so that's how you meet people that say, oh,
- 23:36Speaker 1: were you trying to come on over? Let me? Sally
- 23:39Speaker 1: Richardson uh came and directed the episode. I'm all in
- 23:44Speaker 1: her here because she here's an actress. Dude, she's on fire.
- 23:47Speaker 1: You listen. I saw Andre last week. I said, we're
- 23:50Speaker 1: Sally now like where this week? Sitcom drama? And the
- 23:55Speaker 1: thing about it was, uh, survirus, and Morris was, maybe
- 23:59Speaker 1: I would just I should say her third or fourth
- 24:01Speaker 1: episode direct and she was still kind of getting her
- 24:04Speaker 1: feet with however, a pro like a pro and um.
- 24:09Speaker 1: And then from that, man, we started following each other
- 24:10Speaker 1: on IM before I knew. Every time I turned around,
- 24:13Speaker 1: she's prepping, she's you know, she's getting shot list together,
- 24:17Speaker 1: she's doing she's doing that, and I mean just to
- 24:20Speaker 1: watch her do her things that you brother. Man, Listen,
- 24:23Speaker 1: we're talking to roun Rico Lee. Check out this new
- 24:25Speaker 1: series Man on BT plus First Wive Club. Thank you
- 24:29Speaker 1: for coming into my world and come on man, forwarding
- 24:32Speaker 1: me on money making conversations. I love you, brother, say that.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I really say that, because Wow, this is a hard
- 24:38Speaker 1: interview for me to do personally, because it's like watching
- 24:42Speaker 1: the family member that that that I so cared about
- 24:47Speaker 1: and then then had to walk away and let you
- 24:49Speaker 1: do your thing and to come in the office, come
- 24:51Speaker 1: into this space and say, man, I love you, and
- 24:53Speaker 1: you see you love it back to it's a pleasure
- 24:56Speaker 1: being here at any time. Man. You just you ain't
- 24:58Speaker 1: gotta do nothing. Just called me. It cool. That might
- 25:01Speaker 1: make conversation, y'all
