- 1:08Speaker 1: my next guest because she's calling it California. My next
- 1:12Speaker 1: guest is a professional endurance athlete. Like I told you,
- 1:15Speaker 1: if you're to shape, listen up. These people are in
- 1:18Speaker 1: shape and uh. She's a two time Guinness World record
- 1:22Speaker 1: holder for most marathons completed in the calendar year. She's
- 1:26Speaker 1: also a model, an author. Please work with the money
- 1:29Speaker 1: making conversations Landa holder. Hi, thank you for having me.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And I wasn't I wasn't kidding about this because we
- 1:39Speaker 1: can really I want, I want to have fun. And
- 1:41Speaker 1: first of all, I respect what you do because you're
- 1:43Speaker 1: talking to the guy that uh that I tread bill
- 1:46Speaker 1: in my house. My wife gets on it, then I'll
- 1:48Speaker 1: just look at her. I just go, yeah, you really
- 1:51Speaker 1: doing a girl? You keep you keep doing it now
- 1:54Speaker 1: and so and then a friend of mine, you know,
- 1:57Speaker 1: the phones across the room. I walked briskly over there
- 1:59Speaker 1: to pick the phone, and they go, what you're doing, man,
- 2:01Speaker 1: what you're doing. I'm embarrassed to tell him I just
- 2:04Speaker 1: walked over there because I'm out of breath, breathing hall.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I'm embarrassed to tell him I just walked across the room,
- 2:10Speaker 1: not like I got a big house to pick up
- 2:12Speaker 1: the phone, and I gotta I gotta catch my breath.
- 2:14Speaker 1: And so I'm the type of person are a lot
- 2:17Speaker 1: of people tell me I'm in shape. I look like
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'm in shape. So when I look at a person
- 2:21Speaker 1: like you, let's break down the word endurance athletes. Please
- 2:26Speaker 1: explain to my listeners what exactly is an endurance athlete?
- 2:31Speaker 1: And endurance athlete is someone who goes beyond um beyond
- 2:37Speaker 1: just go away beyond of a five k. A five
- 2:42Speaker 1: k is three miles, ultra marathon is anything more than
- 2:47Speaker 1: a marathon is uh six point two miles or more.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And so an endurance athlete is one that can go
- 2:56Speaker 1: the distance, go beyond what is typically a normal workout
- 3:02Speaker 1: or a normal event. UM I have done. I got
- 3:07Speaker 1: my first Guinness in two thousand and ten. I broke
- 3:10Speaker 1: an eight year record. A lady over in Italy she
- 3:14Speaker 1: ran a hundred marathons in a calendar year. And she ran,
- 3:19Speaker 1: she ran, but she ran. And so I'm a power walker,
- 3:23Speaker 1: so I get to that power walker because your bar
- 3:25Speaker 1: is not even walking, so you know, you you're still
- 3:28Speaker 1: way better than me. I'm not even tiptoe. So a
- 3:31Speaker 1: lot of a lot of people don't realize that you
- 3:35Speaker 1: can lose a lot of weight power walking the same
- 3:38Speaker 1: as you can running. And it's just that what power
- 3:42Speaker 1: walking is that you're out there just a little bit longer.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But if you keep the form, your posture and add
- 3:50Speaker 1: a little speed to it, you can really go to distance.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I'm actually, like I said, I've done a hundred and
- 3:57Speaker 1: six marathons in one year, and most of those we're
- 4:00Speaker 1: not just marathons, they're also ultras, which that's where the
- 4:04Speaker 1: endurance comes in because walkers are out there a lot
- 4:07Speaker 1: longer than what marathoners are runners and so um. People
- 4:13Speaker 1: don't realize that that you could do a whole lot
- 4:16Speaker 1: more with walking and it's healthier for you, it's easier
- 4:20Speaker 1: on the body than what runnings and so um. But yeah,
- 4:24Speaker 1: that's what I do on endurance athlete, and that's let's
- 4:29Speaker 1: let's talk about when you look, like I said, things
- 4:31Speaker 1: happen in life. Like I said, I was reading your
- 4:34Speaker 1: bio and said that when you turned fifty, you wanted
- 4:36Speaker 1: to challenge yourself to do something different in your life.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So before you so this was like a challenge to
- 4:43Speaker 1: you personally, you know you, like you said in your resume,
- 4:46Speaker 1: you have grown children. He was just so, what what
- 4:49Speaker 1: what what made you gravitate towards power walking? And first
- 4:53Speaker 1: of all, tell everybody what exactly is power walking? Well,
- 4:57Speaker 1: power walking is, um is different from race walk in
- 5:00Speaker 1: racewalking is in the Olympics, and racewalking is judged by
- 5:04Speaker 1: you have judges out there and to judge your form. Well, um,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I started off race walking and I kept getting disqualified
- 5:13Speaker 1: because I couldn't get the form correctly. So I decided
- 5:17Speaker 1: to do my own things, power walking, and I couldn't
- 5:23Speaker 1: get that form right. So I say, well, I could
- 5:27Speaker 1: not get it right and I kept getting disqualified at
- 5:30Speaker 1: and so I decided to just do my own things.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So with power walking, you're not judged and so therefore
- 5:37Speaker 1: you don't have to keep the form or whatever, and
- 5:40Speaker 1: therefore you could just do your own things. So I
- 5:43Speaker 1: chose to call myself a power walker. And race walkers
- 5:46Speaker 1: don't like it if you call yourself a race walker
- 5:49Speaker 1: and you're not joined the form, because it takes away
- 5:51Speaker 1: from them because they were it's really hard. It's actually
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm I'm trying to practice it now to get that
- 5:57Speaker 1: form back. But but just walking in general is a
- 6:04Speaker 1: whole lot easier on your body than what it is.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Let's let's really, let's really let people know the significance
- 6:12Speaker 1: of what we're talking about. In twelve, you determined to
- 6:16Speaker 1: set your your your second Guinness World Records. You completed
- 6:20Speaker 1: a hundred and twenty events. You Paul walk three one
- 6:24Speaker 1: hundred millars okay to fifty forty forty nine fifty k's.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Now fifty k's is thirty one miles okay, in seventy
- 6:38Speaker 1: five marathons, which is twenty six miles in one year. See,
- 6:41Speaker 1: I want to you know before people, what are you
- 6:43Speaker 1: talking about walking? Then? I who is she? Okay, let
- 6:46Speaker 1: me just tell you again what she did in nine
- 6:49Speaker 1: getting Book of World Records. She walked three one hundred
- 6:53Speaker 1: mile racist to fifty millars forty thirty one miles. I'm
- 7:01Speaker 1: not gonna say because nobody knows the fifty k means
- 7:04Speaker 1: forty one and seventy five marathons with just twenty six
- 7:09Speaker 1: miles in one year. Bam, as she said, I'm an athlete.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Now I am. I yeah, because when I did the
- 7:20Speaker 1: one hundred and six, um, I didn't get enough respect,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and so I had to come back and say, okay,
- 7:27Speaker 1: check this out. All right, I've done three one hundred
- 7:30Speaker 1: milers all of these fifty caves. Stop stop, stop stop? Okay, okay,
- 7:37Speaker 1: this is a hundred miles you walking, file walking? What
- 7:40Speaker 1: are you doing? Well? Dude? What are you taking? Breaks?
- 7:44Speaker 1: Are you? Can you just stand in place and go
- 7:46Speaker 1: to Chick fil leg get some food? What are you
- 7:49Speaker 1: doing for hundred miles? I'm sorry you get three of them?
- 7:54Speaker 1: I hate driving a hundred miles. You know, if I
- 7:57Speaker 1: go sixty miles an hour, that's an hour and a half. Okay,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you're walking, You're out there welling, bad weather, automotive issues,
- 8:07Speaker 1: bathroom issues. What are you doing for a hundred miles
- 8:11Speaker 1: and you decided to do it three times? Please don't
- 8:14Speaker 1: come on my show. I can like this some casual conversation.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Thank you. Well, when you're doing that hundred about no
- 8:25Speaker 1: you you do stop to go to the bathroom, Thank you,
- 8:28Speaker 1: thank you. You're walking with some astronaut diapers on saying
- 8:33Speaker 1: what are you doing out there? Pampas chafe behind baby paper.
- 8:39Speaker 1: What's going on here for a hundred miles? You're right, okay,
- 8:48Speaker 1: let's let's get you're so funny, no we okay? When
- 8:53Speaker 1: you're doing a hundred mile events, yes, um, you do
- 8:57Speaker 1: stop to go to bathroom? You do? Okay? Can you
- 9:01Speaker 1: run in place to be a Chick fil A getting
- 9:03Speaker 1: that Chick Filate sandwich? You know I'm walking in place.
- 9:06Speaker 1: You know I'm in the drive drive through? Does that count?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Because your boy gonna get hungry in a hundred miles.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna need Mortis and water and some gallarade in
- 9:15Speaker 1: a hundred miles holding the race director will have a
- 9:21Speaker 1: spread of food, so you just won't buy a grab
- 9:25Speaker 1: a sandwich and pick you up. But you keep running,
- 9:33Speaker 1: you keep walking, you don't leave the course. I'm just
- 9:38Speaker 1: trying to figure this out. As a long way left,
- 9:41Speaker 1: we're gonna be back with men, and you get yourself together,
- 9:44Speaker 1: young lady. You know I'm serious. You know I'm trying
- 9:46Speaker 1: to find out I could be an endurance race and
- 9:48Speaker 1: you just laughing, having a good time and never been
- 9:51Speaker 1: interviewing like nobody like this before this. Roushan McDonald with

- 12:10Speaker 1: And let me just set the record straight, because see
- 12:13Speaker 1: this that's caused about respect, and like I said, because
- 12:16Speaker 1: you have to fight for respect. You like that walking
- 12:18Speaker 1: out all over the place. So in twelve she got
- 12:21Speaker 1: some respect, you know, instead of second getness book get
- 12:25Speaker 1: his world record where she Paul walked three one to
- 12:30Speaker 1: fifty millars forty fifty cas, which is thirty one miles
- 12:34Speaker 1: when you four, she did it forty times in one
- 12:37Speaker 1: year and seventy five marathons in one year. And as
- 12:40Speaker 1: Harbio says, bam in your face, runners, you're learned the
- 12:44Speaker 1: now world champion walker and an athlete. Yes, that put
- 12:49Speaker 1: you on the map, didn't the girl? Tell us about
- 12:50Speaker 1: how you felt about that when you got put on
- 12:52Speaker 1: the map. You know, well, actually that didn't really put
- 12:57Speaker 1: me on the map. No, no, no, no, not compared
- 13:01Speaker 1: to what I'm getting ready to tell you now. I
- 13:03Speaker 1: did last year, Hold your horses. Last year I did
- 13:09Speaker 1: more self Transcendent thirty one hundred mile race. And that
- 13:14Speaker 1: was in New York in Jamaica, Queens, New York last
- 13:17Speaker 1: year from June seventeen through August eight, for fifty two
- 13:22Speaker 1: straight days. Let me say it again, for fifty two
- 13:25Speaker 1: straight days, power sixty miles a day for fifty two
- 13:32Speaker 1: streight days to reach thirty one miles? Was big broke?
- 13:38Speaker 1: Was your fit? Big broke? Outter that did you break
- 13:40Speaker 1: your fifth? Bit? Over six million steps on my fifth
- 13:50Speaker 1: I know she had a fit like that's like it
- 13:56Speaker 1: been in Vegas. You know what I'm saying. People out
- 14:01Speaker 1: there crying, they crying this you're you're amazing and this
- 14:06Speaker 1: is why, this is why I want to get you
- 14:07Speaker 1: on the phone. But I personally you you're linked in,
- 14:10Speaker 1: we're linked in, uh friends. And so I saw her.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I've been following watching her, you know, all these little
- 14:16Speaker 1: amazing thing. I said, you know, I gotta have her
- 14:18Speaker 1: on my show. And then people said, why is she
- 14:20Speaker 1: on the show about entrepreneurship? Why you don't show about
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know, entertainment. You know, it's about the balance life,
- 14:26Speaker 1: it's about people, it's about goal setting, and that's what
- 14:29Speaker 1: this is all about. You know, is that you know
- 14:32Speaker 1: you you saw a new challenge your life at the
- 14:34Speaker 1: age of fifty and I always tell people you at
- 14:36Speaker 1: any age you can do something special in your life.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And a lot of people tend to think that they
- 14:41Speaker 1: get at a certain age, is it you know? I
- 14:44Speaker 1: I I'm trying to get to sixty five to get
- 14:46Speaker 1: that check that's so secure to check. And that's not
- 14:49Speaker 1: your that's not your vision because you you're motivated to
- 14:53Speaker 1: empower people. Correct or Linda correct And let me say this.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Your health is your wealth because without it, you can't
- 15:02Speaker 1: do what you do. And I lost my mom only
- 15:06Speaker 1: five years ago and that's how extremely Walk for Diabetes
- 15:10Speaker 1: was born. UM. I walked the first year from um
- 15:15Speaker 1: Beautiful Lagola Beach, California to the San Francisco Go to
- 15:18Speaker 1: Gay Bridge to bring awareness about the benefits of walking
- 15:23Speaker 1: in your health and not only contumes diabetes, but all diseases.
- 15:28Speaker 1: And so I'm doing the fifty to thirty one hundred
- 15:32Speaker 1: mile race again just coming June UM and I'll be
- 15:35Speaker 1: there going around that block of five thousand, sixty nine
- 15:39Speaker 1: times to reach thirty one miles. And I have a challenge,
- 15:44Speaker 1: and I had challenged everyone to walk, run by, hot skip, jump,
- 15:48Speaker 1: do whatever a mile or more every day for fifty
- 15:53Speaker 1: two days while I'm out there doing sixty miles a
- 15:56Speaker 1: day for people too, straight days. And you can go
- 15:59Speaker 1: on my website if I could say that, you want
- 16:01Speaker 1: to holder dot com and sign up and join the challenge.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I tell people it's the longest fitness party in the world.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And um, but yeah, your health is your wealth, and
- 16:14Speaker 1: without if you can't do what you do. I always
- 16:16Speaker 1: tell people this. Think about when you have the flu
- 16:20Speaker 1: and you're laying up in bed and now it's the
- 16:24Speaker 1: first day or two, you're kind of like a little
- 16:26Speaker 1: bit happy that you don't have to go to work.
- 16:29Speaker 1: You know, you don't have to really take care of
- 16:30Speaker 1: the kids. You know the husband gonna take care of that.
- 16:32Speaker 1: You can relax for a minute. Now you're on day
- 16:35Speaker 1: three and day four, and then you're like saying yourself, oh,
- 16:38Speaker 1: shoe work is piled enough, the house is a mess.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I got stuff that I need to do. I want
- 16:44Speaker 1: to get better. We'll think about that. If you're laying
- 16:47Speaker 1: up in the hospital, you're sick, you can't do what
- 16:49Speaker 1: you do. You do, you know you can't make any money,
- 16:52Speaker 1: but your health is your is your wealth. That's what
- 16:55Speaker 1: I tell people. And then also the human body is
- 16:59Speaker 1: so capable of doing things that that's unmanageable. You know,
- 17:04Speaker 1: you just you can't believe or imagine what the human
- 17:07Speaker 1: body can do. And people ask me, and I don't
- 17:10Speaker 1: listen to music or my iPad or or anything when
- 17:12Speaker 1: I'm out there doing those hundred miles and uh, those
- 17:16Speaker 1: fifty k's because I'm praying. I'm praying, and I'm grateful
- 17:19Speaker 1: that God gave me talent. At this age, I will
- 17:23Speaker 1: be sixty may a and um, I will be sixty, yes,
- 17:29Speaker 1: and I'm still going and I'm still setting records and
- 17:31Speaker 1: breaking records, and it's amazing. Congratulations on that being sixty,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and you look fantastic and more more importantly, I don't
- 17:41Speaker 1: think you you tell us your age, but it doesn't
- 17:43Speaker 1: matter to you. That's what I like about how your
- 17:45Speaker 1: tone in it. I'm just sixty. I'm I got more
- 17:48Speaker 1: things i gotta do on this planet. I'm not setting down.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I'm not setting a deadline when I'm supposed to stop
- 17:53Speaker 1: and relax, because you're living, you like you're praying. It's
- 17:56Speaker 1: motivation that you know, it's gold setting. Now this ray
- 18:00Speaker 1: is here. There's fifty two days. You said you're telling
- 18:02Speaker 1: because you're challenging me. Now I hear very clear, misholder,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you telling when I'm out there June seventeenth to August seven,
- 18:11Speaker 1: push your wife off that treadmill and get your lazy
- 18:15Speaker 1: behind on there. Because your health is your wealth. That's
- 18:18Speaker 1: what you told me. That's what you told to see
- 18:20Speaker 1: a really clear you know your health is your wealth.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So you want me to do a mile a day.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And you know I'm gonna walk because you know your
- 18:29Speaker 1: boy ain't gonna run. I'm gonna walk a mile, and
- 18:32Speaker 1: so this is what we're gonna do. I'm gonna ask
- 18:34Speaker 1: you this, when you're out there walking, do you have
- 18:35Speaker 1: a goal prol on your head anything so we can
- 18:38Speaker 1: just see this lie while you're going on that block.
- 18:40Speaker 1: You need to have a GoPro on your forehead that's
- 18:43Speaker 1: on yours somewhere so we can just see and just
- 18:46Speaker 1: let it run for sixty miles every day. You think
- 18:49Speaker 1: I'm crazy, but I'm telling you you need to go
- 18:50Speaker 1: pro out there. We need to make raise some money
- 18:52Speaker 1: for this this campaign that you're doing. And I know
- 18:55Speaker 1: you're successful because you've been doing it, but are you
