- 2:06Speaker 2: I'm grateful, grateful.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Well, you know, I always like to get my audience
- 2:10Speaker 1: locked in, you know, don't want to lose them because
- 2:12Speaker 1: they want to listen real quick and see it's something
- 2:14Speaker 1: they want to hear.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Which is good? Is good? Wealthy is better? Rich is good?
- 2:20Speaker 1: I would say that one more time, wealthy is better
- 2:22Speaker 1: because the word rich and wealthy?
- 2:25Speaker 3: What is the difference there?
- 2:26Speaker 4: Right?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Thank you know what.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Let me tell you how this book came to be. I,
- 2:31Speaker 4: as you know, have been on Serious Exam Channel one
- 2:34Speaker 4: forty one now.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But I've been on Serious Exam.
- 2:37Speaker 4: I was first on the Power on one twenty six
- 2:39Speaker 4: and then I moved over to one twenty one thirteen
- 2:41Speaker 4: years ago. Because I've been on exem for twenty years.
- 2:44Speaker 4: And over those twenty years, I've had the honor of
- 2:47Speaker 4: interviewing some of the greatest wealth creators of our time,
- 2:51Speaker 4: people like Bill Marriott and David Rubinstein and David Stewart,
- 2:56Speaker 4: America's Wealthy as black Man, Bob Johnson, Johnson, tell Lee
- 3:01Speaker 4: Else's the found co founder of Netflix one after another,
- 3:06Speaker 4: Damon John John O'Brien, and over those years I was
- 3:10Speaker 4: inspired by them, but I didn't know the difference between
- 3:14Speaker 4: being rich and wealthy. Oh, I thought I knew, But
- 3:17Speaker 4: about four years ago that the proverbial light bulb went
- 3:21Speaker 4: off above my head and I said, oh my god,
- 3:25Speaker 4: I got it. Bob Johnson had tried to tell me,
- 3:28Speaker 4: but I didn't get it. I didn't capture it. But
- 3:31Speaker 4: finally it came to my brain, here's the difference. And
- 3:35Speaker 4: I said, well, maybe I'm the only one who doesn't
- 3:38Speaker 4: know the difference. Maybe I'm the outlier here. So I
- 3:41Speaker 4: went around the country when doing my speaking engagement to
- 3:44Speaker 4: corporations all my tours and ask people, Hey, what do
- 3:48Speaker 4: you say when I say the word rich? What do
- 3:50Speaker 4: you think? They immediate number one answer million dollars. You
- 3:53Speaker 4: got a million dollars, you're rich. Okay, great, Now if
- 3:56Speaker 4: rich is a million, what's wealthy? And they'll look up
- 3:59Speaker 4: in the air ponder for a minute and they say,
- 4:02Speaker 4: I guess it's five million, ten million, a billion. And
- 4:06Speaker 4: I realized other people didn't know either, okay, and said,
- 4:11Speaker 4: I said, if they don't know, how will they ever
- 4:13Speaker 4: hit it.
- 4:14Speaker 2: It's like this, sir rouchean.
- 4:15Speaker 4: If I gave you a rock and say hit the
- 4:19Speaker 4: closest wall to where you're sitting, you hit the rock
- 4:22Speaker 4: with the wall close to you.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Okay, got it.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Now let's say I say here's a rock again, but
- 4:26Speaker 4: this time, before you throw it, I wanted to put
- 4:29Speaker 4: you a blindfold over your eyes, turn you around until
- 4:32Speaker 4: you can't know which direction you're facing. Now do it again?
- 4:36Speaker 2: Well, can you do it?
- 4:38Speaker 4: No? It's hard to hit what you can't see, and
- 4:40Speaker 4: it's even harder to hit what you don't know. And
- 4:43Speaker 4: I realized most people did not know the difference between
- 4:47Speaker 4: being rich and wealthy, and I was one of them.
- 4:49Speaker 4: And I give you a quick story. I was in Cleveland,
- 4:52Speaker 4: Ohio a couple of weeks ago giving a speech, and
- 4:55Speaker 4: I was there with Ben Crump. On Friday night, we
- 4:57Speaker 4: did an event, then Saturday had another event, and Sunday.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Morning I spoke to church.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Well after Saturday afternoon, I went to a fancy restaurant
- 5:07Speaker 4: with the client who had brought me there, and we
- 5:10Speaker 4: were sitting there having this nice meal and one of
- 5:12Speaker 4: the star players from the Cleveland Browns football team, a
- 5:17Speaker 4: well known football player and a star in the league,
- 5:21Speaker 4: was walking by with his entourage. And he was walking
- 5:24Speaker 4: by and my client knew him, saying, Hey, come over,
- 5:27Speaker 4: I want you to meet doctor Jolly. So he comes
- 5:29Speaker 4: over with his fur coat and his jewelry around his
- 5:31Speaker 4: neck and his diamond bracelet on. He was looking really good.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I said, why that young man is balling and anyway,
- 5:38Speaker 4: he said. My client said to the football player, hey,
- 5:42Speaker 4: doctor Jolly teaches people how to be wealthy. And a
- 5:44Speaker 4: young man responded, I'm already wealthy, but I guess I
- 5:49Speaker 4: could learn some more ways about real wealth. And we
- 5:52Speaker 4: chatted for a minute. I gave him my card and
- 5:55Speaker 4: he and his entourage left. I know he prayed the bill,
- 5:57Speaker 4: by the way. Anyway, then left. I said to my client,
- 6:02Speaker 4: I said, you know what, I bet you that young
- 6:06Speaker 4: man thinks he's wealthy, but he's really rich. Now the
- 6:12Speaker 4: owner is wealthy. See that young man ran up and
- 6:15Speaker 4: down the field, he caught the ball. He was a
- 6:17Speaker 4: star in the field. He went to training camp, he
- 6:20Speaker 4: went through all the processes and he got a contract
- 6:22Speaker 4: and he got millions of dollars. He's rich, right, But
- 6:26Speaker 4: the owner didn't sweat. He didn't get on the field,
- 6:29Speaker 4: he didn't run up and there. He sipped his key
- 6:32Speaker 4: tea or coffee or soft drink. He ate some food
- 6:35Speaker 4: while the.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Game was going on.
- 6:37Speaker 4: But when the game was over, the young man went
- 6:40Speaker 4: home with millions, but the owner went home with billions.
- 6:43Speaker 4: And when that young man on the field stopped being
- 6:47Speaker 4: productive or gets hurt, he's going to be replaced with
- 6:50Speaker 4: another young man that the owner chooses. And so I realized,
- 6:53Speaker 4: we have to tell people the difference between being rich
- 6:56Speaker 4: and wealthy and helping them to grow. And so when
- 6:59Speaker 4: I called my friends, the billionaires and millionaires and said, hey,
- 7:02Speaker 4: here's my theory on the difference between being rich and wealthy?
- 7:06Speaker 4: Am I correct? They say absolutely, You're absolutely right. And
- 7:09Speaker 4: here's what you got to do.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Now.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Now that you know, and you've got the ability to
- 7:13Speaker 4: get the word out, you got television, radio, and you
- 7:17Speaker 4: can write books.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Put it in a book, and so I did.
- 7:20Speaker 4: The book is called Riches, Good, Wealthy is Better, and
- 7:23Speaker 4: people can go to Riches, Good, Wealthy is Better dot
- 7:26Speaker 4: com and read it and get free excerpts from the book.
- 7:28Speaker 4: It's in a phenomenal read. And let me say this
- 7:31Speaker 4: for the record, this book didn't come from me. It
- 7:34Speaker 4: came through me. And I get God to glory because
- 7:37Speaker 4: this is a book that's going to change our country.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Now let's talk.
- 7:40Speaker 3: About the book. A little bit more detailed.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You know, my mindset money mindset, because that's what you're
- 7:45Speaker 1: talking about. People can drive a car, people can live
- 7:48Speaker 1: in a house, and I call that working wealthy anyway.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Yes, if you start working, then your wealth goes away.
- 7:53Speaker 1: That's what you're saying is there's mailbox money and there
- 7:56Speaker 1: was working money. Yes, what you're trying to do is
- 7:58Speaker 1: transition people from the world money to the mailbox money.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Well.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Well, there are two groups that this book is focused on, Rushan.
- 8:06Speaker 4: The first group are the people who want to be
- 8:09Speaker 4: wealthy but don't know how to get there, and they
- 8:12Speaker 4: can take these lessons I've learned from these wealth creators,
- 8:15Speaker 4: and look, I'm just teaching what I've been taught. So
- 8:18Speaker 4: the first is helping people get to wealth. But the
- 8:21Speaker 4: second group, Rushan, is where we are seeing the greatest
- 8:24Speaker 4: response is amazing. People are buying it. In volume eight
- 8:28Speaker 4: nine ten, one lady bought a box thirty copies. She said,
- 8:31Speaker 4: I want one for every child, every grandchild, every niece,
- 8:34Speaker 4: every nephew.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Here are the people who have worked.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Hard all their lives, scrimped, saved, sacrificed, done without so
- 8:44Speaker 4: they could create a nest egg and they're concerned that
- 8:48Speaker 4: their children will not take care of it and will
- 8:50Speaker 4: squander it. Or as one man said to me, he said,
- 8:54Speaker 4: doctor Jolly, my greatest fear is that my children will
- 8:58Speaker 4: not treat my money like I treated it, and they
- 9:02Speaker 4: will go through in months what it took decades and
- 9:05Speaker 4: decades and decades for me to grow.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I want help. This book is the answer.
- 9:11Speaker 4: I recommend every parent, everybody who has a nest eeakee
- 9:16Speaker 4: get copies of this for people who are in their family.
- 9:20Speaker 4: You asked about the mindset, as you said, and you've
- 9:23Speaker 4: read the book. I talk about the five money mindsets.
- 9:27Speaker 4: The lowest level is the one day mindset. That's the
- 9:32Speaker 4: person who stands on a corner with a cardboard box
- 9:36Speaker 4: every day saying, give me enough money for the day,
- 9:39Speaker 4: and they repeat that process every day. We've all seen them.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Then you got the thirty day mindset, which are the
- 9:45Speaker 4: people who are on fixed income, whether they're retirement, social security,
- 9:49Speaker 4: or in welfare, whatever it is that it comes in
- 9:52Speaker 4: thirty day payments and every month they are looking forward
- 9:56Speaker 4: to that next month. They think month, the month. Then
- 9:59Speaker 4: you get the one year mindset, people who think a
- 10:02Speaker 4: year to year did I make more money this year
- 10:06Speaker 4: than last year. Did I get a cost of living
- 10:08Speaker 4: raise this year? Then you get the decade mindset, which
- 10:11Speaker 4: is the mindset we typically see with athletes and entertainers.
- 10:16Speaker 4: A baseball player might get a ten year contract to
- 10:21Speaker 4: play baseball and for ten years, one hundred million.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Dollars, and he's bawling.
- 10:26Speaker 4: He got five Bentley's, four rolls, Royces to five homes Jet,
- 10:32Speaker 4: he's rolling, he balling, he got table savers when he
- 10:35Speaker 4: go to the club.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I mean, he got it all. But if he does
- 10:39Speaker 2: not renew.
- 10:40Speaker 4: That contract, or if he gets hurt and does not
- 10:45Speaker 4: modify his lifestyle, he's going to be broke. And that
- 10:50Speaker 4: is why over seventy percent of professional athletes are broke
- 10:53Speaker 4: five years after retirement. But then we got the wealth mindset.
- 10:57Speaker 4: And the wealth mindset is a mindset that says thinks generation,
- 11:02Speaker 4: the generation, the generation. You know, the Bible says that
- 11:05Speaker 4: a good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children's
- 11:09Speaker 4: great grandchildren. And so my goal in the book is
- 11:12Speaker 4: to get each level to go up one level, just
- 11:15Speaker 4: one level. The one day guy, it's too big a
- 11:19Speaker 4: jump for him to think generationally at this truth. But
- 11:22Speaker 4: if I can get him just to go up to
- 11:24Speaker 4: the thirty day, and if I can get to thirty
- 11:25Speaker 4: day people to get up to one year, and I
- 11:27Speaker 4: get to one year folks to get up to the
- 11:29Speaker 4: ten year, and I get to ten year folks to
- 11:31Speaker 4: get up to the generation, then I've done my job.
- 11:34Speaker 4: And so that's why I'm encouraging people to go to
- 11:37Speaker 4: riches good.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Wealthy is better.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Get copies of the book, read the excerpts we have there.
- 11:41Speaker 2: But we want to change people's mindset. And you hit
- 11:44Speaker 2: it right on the head. It's about a mindset. Wealth
- 11:47Speaker 2: starts in your mind, it stoughts in your mind.
- 11:51Speaker 1: But also because that creates the planning process. Yes, now
- 11:55Speaker 1: from a minority community.
- 11:56Speaker 3: You've heard it all the time.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You know we're the last to get different as, the
- 11:59Speaker 1: last to get hired, the first to get fired, and
- 12:01Speaker 1: first get laid off. That's a cycle, especially that one
- 12:04Speaker 1: day cycle or that thirty number two mindset, which is
- 12:08Speaker 1: the thirty day cycle.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Right, you live to check to check. Right.
- 12:12Speaker 1: With that being said, people will listening to the show.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Let's switch that over to the small business owner entrepreneurs. Yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 1: so they trying to survive beyond the thirty day cycle.
- 12:21Speaker 1: They trying to get to the year plan because they
- 12:23Speaker 1: got to project right. How do you look at them
- 12:25Speaker 1: when they come to you.
- 12:26Speaker 4: For advice, doctor Willie Jobs, you know, and as an
- 12:30Speaker 4: entrepreneur and as a guy who had has had a
- 12:33Speaker 4: small business with a small team, and they classify small
- 12:37Speaker 4: business less than five hundred people. And so I've had
- 12:40Speaker 4: a small business all my life. I got a small team.
- 12:44Speaker 4: But here's what I say to entrepreneurs and for those
- 12:47Speaker 4: who listen to me on my ex sum show, you
- 12:49Speaker 4: know that one of the focus areas is for the entrepreneurs,
- 12:53Speaker 4: entrepreneurs and small business people. And I encourage you to
- 12:56Speaker 4: tune in after you listen to ra Sean on his show,
- 13:00Speaker 4: tune in on Saturday's four o'clock Channel one forty one,
- 13:03Speaker 4: re airs Tuesdays and Thursdays at six pm, and then
- 13:06Speaker 4: it goes to podcast, the Willie Jolly Wealthy Ways Show podcast.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Now here's what I say to small business people.
- 13:13Speaker 4: The key to success in growing wealth is discipline. You
- 13:19Speaker 4: got to have discipline, and discipline is across all the
- 13:24Speaker 4: types of wealth. Cause there are five types of wealth
- 13:27Speaker 4: that I discussed in the book. First kind of wealth,
- 13:30Speaker 4: of course, is financial wealth. But the second kind of
- 13:32Speaker 4: wealth is health wealth. If you are sick, you cannot
- 13:37Speaker 4: enjoy the great revenues you're generating. It is said that
- 13:42Speaker 4: Steve Jobs on his deathbed said I'd give all the
- 13:47Speaker 4: money away for more time. And my friend Les Brown
- 13:50Speaker 4: says it like this, and I wrote it in the book.
- 13:52Speaker 4: He said, the sick person has one dream, while the
- 13:59Speaker 4: health healthy person has a thousand.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Three.
- 14:02Speaker 4: You want to be healthy, so your health wealth is
- 14:04Speaker 4: number two. Number three is relationship. Wealth is not just
- 14:10Speaker 4: where you're going, but who's going with you.
- 14:13Speaker 2: And that's big.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Then you got the fourth type of wealth, which you
- 14:18Speaker 4: are so powerful in uh Ra Sean in three and four,
- 14:22Speaker 4: particularly relationship because your relationships are incredible. But also your
- 14:26Speaker 4: reputational wealth, what people say about you in the marketplace.
- 14:31Speaker 4: And finally we call it now a brand, you know,
- 14:34Speaker 4: a personal brand, but it's really your reputation. And the
- 14:36Speaker 4: first type of wealth is your intellectual capital wealth. What
- 14:40Speaker 4: do you know and what are people willing to pay
- 14:43Speaker 4: you because of that? So it's about mindset. Wealth starts
- 14:47Speaker 4: in the mind and it starts with discipline. You must
- 14:49Speaker 4: have discipline to succeed in any of those wealth. If
- 14:52Speaker 4: you not help discipline about your health, if you just
- 14:55Speaker 4: eat everything you want and never work out and drink
- 14:59Speaker 4: all of time and more all the time, then you're
- 15:02Speaker 4: not going to be healthy.
- 15:03Speaker 2: So you got to have discipline. Please don't go anywhere.
- 15:06Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more money Making Conversations Masterclass. No,

- 15:45Speaker 1: X and Instagram.
- 15:46Speaker 4: But one more thing about the amount of money you make,
- 15:50Speaker 4: because many people say, well, it's about the amount of money. No, no, no,
- 15:54Speaker 4: It's about your discipline and what do you do with
- 15:57Speaker 4: the money. See regular folks work for the money. Wealthy
- 16:00Speaker 4: people make their money work for them.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I e.
- 16:03Speaker 4: In the book you read the book, I talk about
- 16:06Speaker 4: Mary Ellen Pleasant, who was a domestic worker in the
- 16:09Speaker 4: nineteen hundreds who never made more than six thousand dollars
- 16:14Speaker 4: a year cleaning people's homes. But she lived below her means,
- 16:19Speaker 4: and she invested the difference and as a result of that,
- 16:24Speaker 4: her net worth rose to two point seven million dollars.
- 16:29Speaker 4: She never made more than six thousand dollars a year. Oh,
- 16:31Speaker 4: how about the secretary back in the sixties early seventies,
- 16:36Speaker 4: before the internet, who the lawyers at her firm would
- 16:41Speaker 4: come and say, here's my stock by today. Placed this
- 16:46Speaker 4: with my broker. She would make the call and after
- 16:50Speaker 4: a while she said, I wonder why they're doing that.
- 16:52Speaker 4: So over lunch she would ask them, why are you
- 16:54Speaker 4: investing in stocks? Why are you doing that? How do
- 16:57Speaker 4: you do it?
- 16:58Speaker 2: They taught her.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Over lunch she started making the same stock pict sheet
- 17:04Speaker 4: that they made.
- 17:04Speaker 2: She never made more than forty five thousand dollars.
- 17:07Speaker 4: A year, but she started buying little bits of stock
- 17:10Speaker 4: like they did.
- 17:11Speaker 2: They might buy a hundred share, She buy one share.
- 17:14Speaker 4: When she retired she had a portfolio of eight million dollars.
- 17:18Speaker 4: And so I'm saying to this folks, rich is good
- 17:23Speaker 4: wealthy is better.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Now.
- 17:24Speaker 4: I gotta tell you, folks, here's some bad news. Everybody's
- 17:27Speaker 4: not gonna be rich. The Bible says that the poor
- 17:30Speaker 4: will be with you always. Everybody is not going to
- 17:33Speaker 4: be rich. But anybody, Oh let me say it again.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Anybody can become wealthy if you use these principles in
- 17:40Speaker 4: the book, because anybody can do what it says as
- 17:44Speaker 4: long as you got three thanks. Listen careful the book.
- 17:47Speaker 4: I tell you the three legs to wealth. One income,
- 17:52Speaker 4: you gotta have money coming in, some money. Two, you
- 17:57Speaker 4: got to live below your means, and then you invest
- 18:00Speaker 4: the difference. So you gotta have income, and then you
- 18:03Speaker 4: gotta have investments. And the third leg is insurance. You
- 18:08Speaker 4: got to protect the asset with insurance. So you gotta
- 18:13Speaker 4: have life insurance. If you love your family, you gotta
- 18:15Speaker 4: have life insurance. If you want generational wealth, you gotta
- 18:18Speaker 4: have life insurance. Number two, you gotta have health insurance.
- 18:20Speaker 4: You gotta have car insurance, disability insurance, and long term
- 18:26Speaker 4: care insurance. That will maintain the molt, the pit, the
- 18:32Speaker 4: force field around your wealth.
- 18:35Speaker 2: You do that, you're gonna be on your way.
- 18:37Speaker 4: And everybody needs to have that last everybody needs to
- 18:40Speaker 4: have at least two streams of income. And in the book,
- 18:43Speaker 4: I put the eight streams of income. You got to
- 18:45Speaker 4: have two streams of income. It could be thocks, could
- 18:48Speaker 4: be bonds, it could be real estate, it could be crypto,
- 18:51Speaker 4: it could be collectibles, it could be jewelry, it could
- 18:56Speaker 4: be paintings. There are eight streams that you could choose from.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Or like you are you creating content, Rashine, You're a
- 19:04Speaker 4: content creator. Everybody can do something with their brain, So
- 19:09Speaker 4: I think that's important. This book is packed with stuff
- 19:13Speaker 4: and I grew because of what I learned in writing
- 19:17Speaker 4: this book.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Absolutely, and that's why I got you on the show
- 19:20Speaker 1: because I'm speaking if you don't know one of the
- 19:23Speaker 1: five outstanding speakers in the world, as you can tell
- 19:26Speaker 1: you know. The thing about it was the one word
- 19:29Speaker 1: that you didn't bring up in this conversation is pride.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Come on, somebody, because when you say living be know
- 19:36Speaker 1: your means that message.
- 19:38Speaker 3: That means that with the plan in the words.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I always go back and tell my staff when I
- 19:42Speaker 1: was in my twenties, this guy would always tell me
- 19:44Speaker 1: white guy.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Yep. He would tell me, hey, just save one hundred
- 19:47Speaker 3: and fifty dollars a month.
- 19:48Speaker 1: In my mind, I could not understand what he was
- 19:52Speaker 1: talking about, because my pride went, Man, I could do
- 19:55Speaker 1: something with that one hundred and fifty dollars right clothes,
- 19:58Speaker 1: right right, I can, I can go on the trip.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Yeah, my pride was not allowed.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Me to invest that money. Now, twenty years later, I
- 20:07Speaker 1: understood what he was talking.
- 20:08Speaker 2: About, right right.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Pride is not part of my vocabulary or my lifestyle.
- 20:12Speaker 2: That's right.
- 20:12Speaker 1: That's they's talk about pride because that's what your own
- 20:15Speaker 1: book is about. Yep, Lauren applied the pride and then
- 20:20Speaker 1: uplifting the.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Intellect and the plane.
- 20:22Speaker 2: That's right. That's right.
- 20:24Speaker 4: In the book, I talk about Bust the stories who
- 20:26Speaker 4: you might have had on the store. He's on another
- 20:29Speaker 4: channel on XM. Buster dead friend, former pastor. He now
- 20:32Speaker 4: teaches people how to get out of debt and how
- 20:34Speaker 4: to grow their wealth. And Buster said, when he was
- 20:37Speaker 4: a young pastor, he had pride. He wanted to have
- 20:40Speaker 4: a Cadillac like the rest of the pastors. He wanted
- 20:43Speaker 4: to have fancy clothes. So he lived up to his
- 20:46Speaker 4: paycheck all the way, never saving any money. And he
- 20:49Speaker 4: said one day and he had to have clothes with
- 20:52Speaker 4: the designer label on it. He had to had to
- 20:54Speaker 4: have a certain kind of look and a certain kind
- 20:57Speaker 4: of clothes. And he said, once I realized that my
- 21:00Speaker 4: pride was killing my wealth, I had to let the
- 21:03Speaker 4: pride go so I could grab hold of the wealth.
- 21:05Speaker 4: And I think that's what we have to do. The
- 21:07Speaker 4: other thing that this book talks about is this thing
- 21:11Speaker 4: called arrogance.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Arrogance that I got the answers.
- 21:15Speaker 4: One of the things I've learned is I don't have
- 21:17Speaker 4: all the answers and I cannot be arrogant, nor do
- 21:21Speaker 4: you want to be ignorant. So if you can get
- 21:25Speaker 4: the book, input determined output, what you put in Charinges,
- 21:28Speaker 4: what you put out. But if you've got arrogance and ignorance,
- 21:34Speaker 4: you on your way down because no one can help you.
- 21:38Speaker 4: But as Les Brown says, he says, the arrogant and ignorant,
- 21:41Speaker 4: no one can help you.
- 21:42Speaker 2: But if you're willing to learn, no one can stop you.
- 21:45Speaker 4: And that's what we want people to know that we
- 21:48Speaker 4: want you to get this information this book.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Oh you know what, I'm so grateful. I was on
- 21:53Speaker 2: an interview just.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Yesterday and Riches good Wealthy is better Riches Good Wealthy
- 21:59Speaker 5: is he's communicating the values of information, consistency, the plan
- 22:08Speaker 5: Without any of that, then you will get confusion, frustration,
- 22:12Speaker 5: and debt age personal lift that that winds.
- 22:16Speaker 3: When that wins, when you're ignorant, that's winds. When you
- 22:20Speaker 3: have pride before you're planning.
- 22:22Speaker 2: That's right, right, right.
- 22:25Speaker 1: We try to get you out of debt and get
- 22:27Speaker 1: you in the planning. And the planning part is like
- 22:31Speaker 1: looking in the other yard, looking at driving the car,
- 22:35Speaker 1: wearing the clothes, going on social media, trying to post
- 22:41Speaker 1: because social media has become the biggest I think the
- 22:44Speaker 1: advocate of false pride, no questions to compete for images
- 22:48Speaker 1: that you don't know if are real or not. That's
- 22:51Speaker 1: in your book, Riches Good Wealthy is better. You talk
- 22:54Speaker 1: about overcoming the odds a lot in your book. Don't
- 22:58Speaker 1: let us set back hole you back, That's right. Why
- 23:01Speaker 1: don't you talk about that so much?
- 23:03Speaker 2: Well, because I'm a walking talking testament of failing. Okay, failing.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I was a nightclub singer.
- 23:12Speaker 4: For those who had never read my book, a Setback,
- 23:14Speaker 4: set up for comeback, I recommend you go to my
- 23:17Speaker 4: website win with Willy dot com. When with willy dot com.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Look for my products to help you win icon. Click
- 23:26Speaker 4: it and get the book or set back as a
- 23:28Speaker 4: setup for comeback. First couple pages in the book, I
- 23:30Speaker 4: tell my story where I was a nightclub singer, singing
- 23:34Speaker 4: in nightclubs, making a living, winning the awards Best Jazz Singer,
- 23:38Speaker 4: Best Entertainer, Best Performer in Washington, DC. We're not a
- 23:42Speaker 4: winning the nightclub. The club on the said, we love
- 23:44Speaker 4: your band, but we've made a change. There's something new
- 23:47Speaker 4: going around called carry yok. I said, what a walker?
- 23:50Speaker 4: They said, karaoke and it's a lot cheaper than a band.
- 23:55Speaker 4: We're gonna give that a shot for a while. And
- 23:57Speaker 4: I said, but what about my bills? I learned that
- 24:00Speaker 4: nobody care about your bills but you and the people
- 24:03Speaker 4: you owe.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Am I right about it? And so I said, what
- 24:06Speaker 2: am I going to do?
- 24:08Speaker 4: A friend of mine gave me a cassette tape with
- 24:12Speaker 4: a motivational messages and a book. The book was called
- 24:16Speaker 4: Think and Grow Rich. I never heard of motivational tape.
- 24:19Speaker 4: I never heard of a motivational message, and I never read
- 24:22Speaker 4: a book from cover to cover. Because see ra Sean,
- 24:24Speaker 4: I was half of the class in high school that
- 24:26Speaker 4: made the top half possible. Okay, So I read the
- 24:33Speaker 4: book and there's a premise in the book that says,
- 24:35Speaker 4: wherever there's an adversity, at that same place as a
- 24:39Speaker 4: seed for great opportunity. And I said, Okay, where's my opportunity.
- 24:43Speaker 4: The opportunity was working for the school system as a
- 24:46Speaker 4: drug prevention coordinator. I got this job talking to little kids,
- 24:50Speaker 4: little kids about stand away from drugs. From the little kids,
- 24:52Speaker 4: the teachers would say, oh, we want you to teach,
- 24:55Speaker 4: come talk for our group. And then someone they would say,
- 24:57Speaker 4: can you come to my church? And someone in the
- 24:59Speaker 4: church say, can you come to my company? And then
- 25:01Speaker 4: Les Brown heard about this guy who was a speaker
- 25:04Speaker 4: who could also sing, and he was looking for an
- 25:07Speaker 4: opening act for his music and motivation Dream Team tour,
- 25:10Speaker 4: and he invited me to be an opening act. The
- 25:13Speaker 4: tour was Les Brown, Billy Preston, the great organist, Gladys Knight,
- 25:18Speaker 4: and a little guy from DC Me. Because of Lesson, Gladys,
- 25:21Speaker 4: they introduced me to radio people and I got a
- 25:24Speaker 4: little radio show. It got syndicated. You can now hear
- 25:27Speaker 4: me across America every morning on Get Up Mornings with
- 25:31Speaker 4: Erica Campbell on the Praise Network and as the eight
- 25:34Speaker 4: twenty Every Morning. That led to XM, where I now
- 25:38Speaker 4: have been on for twenty years, have the number one
- 25:40Speaker 4: self Help to Grow Your Wealth show in America, And
- 25:43Speaker 4: then that led to a book publisher calling and saying,
- 25:46Speaker 4: I like your ideas. Have you ever thought about writing
- 25:49Speaker 4: a book? I said no, I never thought about it.
- 25:52Speaker 4: He said, let me make you an offer. I said,
- 25:54Speaker 4: I just thought about it. I wrote a book called
- 25:58Speaker 4: It Only Takes a Minute Changing Life, became a national bestseller.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Then a Setback is a setup for Comeback. Became a
- 26:04Speaker 4: global bestseller, then turned setbacks into greenbacks, then an Attitude
- 26:08Speaker 4: of Excellence, then Chicken Soup for the Soul, and then
- 26:12Speaker 4: make Love, make money and make it last. The book
- 26:14Speaker 4: I wrote with my wife. We've been married forty years.
- 26:17Speaker 4: You've we've been on your show here.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I haven't had it.
- 26:19Speaker 3: You know, I'll go bring it up.
- 26:21Speaker 2: You know, I know you were.
- 26:22Speaker 3: I know you were.
- 26:24Speaker 2: That's right, A right, ADZ, that's right.
- 26:29Speaker 4: And we haven't had an argument in thirty eight years
- 26:31Speaker 4: now that we wanted today show. They said you never
- 26:33Speaker 4: had an argument? I said no, I didn't say that.
- 26:34Speaker 4: I said, we haven't had an argument in thirty eight years.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Those first couple of years were like World War Three,
- 26:39Speaker 4: but we learned how to not argue. We put it
- 26:41Speaker 4: in a book and we also put it on our
- 26:44Speaker 4: ted talk.
- 26:44Speaker 2: You can get that at Jollymarriage dot com.
- 26:47Speaker 4: And then in nineteen ninety nine, I was named one
- 26:49Speaker 4: of the top five speakers in the world by Toast
- 26:51Speaker 4: Masters two thousand and five, Inducted in the Speaker Hall
- 26:54Speaker 4: of Fame in twenty thirteen, named the Top five Leadership
- 26:57Speaker 4: Speaker in twenty seventeen, a legend of the speaking industry.
- 27:01Speaker 4: And in twenty twenty three, I got the highest award
- 27:04Speaker 4: in the speaking industry, the Cabot Award, which is like
- 27:07Speaker 4: the Heisman, and I'm the first African American man to
- 27:10Speaker 4: get that award. And here's the lesson I say to everybody.
- 27:14Speaker 4: I failed, I've messed up, I've had setbacks, but I
- 27:20Speaker 4: want to encourage everybody who's listening that your setback is
- 27:24Speaker 4: not the end of the story, is not the end
- 27:25Speaker 4: of the road unless you choose it to be. A
- 27:28Speaker 4: setback is a setup for comeback. And I'm saying to
- 27:31Speaker 4: each and every one of you, listen carefully folks that
- 27:34Speaker 4: a setback is a setup for your greater comeback. You
- 27:37Speaker 4: just have to have the mindset So that answers your question, Rishan,
- 27:41Speaker 4: that it is about making a decision and not let.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Stuff stop you and not get down in the dumps.
- 27:49Speaker 4: And you and I both know we've both been through
- 27:52Speaker 4: some tough moments, some tough but we refuse to give up.
- 27:56Speaker 2: And that's why we're here today.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Finally, you know, as we wrap up this conversation, Willie Jolly,
- 28:01Speaker 1: if someone listening or watching can take one message from
- 28:05Speaker 1: riches good, Wealthy is better.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Yes, what would you want it to be?
- 28:09Speaker 4: I wanted to The main message I wanted to be
- 28:12Speaker 4: is that you are able to transform your life no
- 28:17Speaker 4: matter what your age, no matter what your income. I
- 28:20Speaker 4: interviewed a guy the other day, Reggie Irby, who was
- 28:23Speaker 4: a drug dealer and a drug addict in West Philadelphia.
- 28:28Speaker 4: He was able to get into the service. He went
- 28:32Speaker 4: in the Navy, He served his time in the Navy,
- 28:35Speaker 4: came out and worked for the fire department. He retired
- 28:39Speaker 4: from the fire department, and then he got another job.
- 28:42Speaker 4: He retired from the second job. And when he retired
- 28:44Speaker 4: the second time, since he already had a retirement from
- 28:46Speaker 4: the fire department. They gave him a pool of money
- 28:48Speaker 4: twelve thousand dollars.
- 28:50Speaker 2: And he said, well, I could go on a what
- 28:52Speaker 2: you said earlier.
- 28:52Speaker 4: I could go buy a car, or I could go
- 28:55Speaker 4: on a trip, or I could do a lot with
- 28:58Speaker 4: that money. But he decided to invest at sixty five
- 29:01Speaker 4: in the stock market, and he just kept putting a
- 29:04Speaker 4: little bit in every month. He's now seventy two, and
- 29:09Speaker 4: he said, I now have a portfolio of eight hundred
- 29:14Speaker 4: and ninety thousand dollars. What my message for people is
- 29:17Speaker 4: never too late to start. And as long as you start,
- 29:20Speaker 4: Look when is the best time to plan a tree
- 29:24Speaker 4: that takes eighty years to grow eighty years ago, when's
- 29:27Speaker 4: the second best time today? Do it now? Go to riches, good, wealthiest,
- 29:32Speaker 4: better get the book. Get it for all your children,
- 29:35Speaker 4: your grandchildren, people in your family. We're going to change
- 29:39Speaker 4: this wealth gap that we have an opportunity by information,
- 29:43Speaker 4: and that's my job. I want to thank my friend Rushan.
- 29:46Speaker 4: Now did you hear a shout out I gave you
- 29:48Speaker 4: on the radio a couple.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Of weeks ago.
- 29:51Speaker 3: You make me laugh all the time I go, because you.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Know I don't want it just been. I just love
- 29:56Speaker 1: being a background voice. Oh man, you and my people.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I'm felt grateful for you. Man, I am so grateful
- 30:03Speaker 1: for you and your friendship over the years. How you've
- 30:06Speaker 1: been in my corner and I just want to thank you.
- 30:08Speaker 1: We're good, rich is good, wealthy is better than one
- 30:11Speaker 1: and only doctor Willy Jolly. And when I come back
- 30:13Speaker 1: and interview him again, I gotta bring with you wife story.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Yeah you interviewed it from his house. The kitchen was
- 30:21Speaker 1: in the back. Yes, she's wonderful. She's just as gracious
- 30:24Speaker 1: as he is in providing information that will help you win.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Thank you, doctor Willy Jole.
