- 0:00Luke chapter 16 Now he was also saying to the disciples, there
- 0:04was a rich man who had a manager, and this manager was
- 0:06reported to him as squandering his possessions.
- 0:09And he called him and said to him, what is this I hear about
- 0:12you? Give an accounting of your
- 0:13management, for you can no longer be manager.
- 0:16The manager said to himself, what shall I do since my master
- 0:19is taking the management away from me?
- 0:21I'm not strong enough to dig. I'm ashamed to beg.
- 0:24I know what I shall do so that when I am removed from the
- 0:28management, people will welcome me into their homes.
- 0:30And he summoned each one of his master's debtors.
- 0:32And he began saying to the first, how much do you owe my
- 0:35master? And he said, 100 measures of
- 0:38oil. And he said to him, Take your
- 0:40bill and sit down quickly and write 50.
- 0:42Then he said to another, And how much do you owe?
- 0:45And he said 100 measures of wheat.
- 0:48And he said to him, take your bill and write 80.
- 0:51And his master praised the unrighteous manager, because he
- 0:53acted shrewdly. But the sons of this age are
- 0:55more shrewd in relation to their own kind than the sons of light.
- 0:59And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of the
- 1:02wealth of unrighteousness, so that when it fails, they will
- 1:06receive you into the eternal dwellings.
- 1:08He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in
- 1:11much. And he who is unrighteous in a
- 1:13very little thing is unrighteous also in much.
- 1:16Therefore, if you have been faithful in the use of
- 1:19unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you?
- 1:23If you have not been faithful in the use of that which is
- 1:25another's, who will give you what is your own?
- 1:28No servant can serve 2 masters, for either he will hate the one
- 1:32and love the other, or else he will be devoted to 1 and despise
- 1:35the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
- 1:39Now the Pharisees, who are lovers of money, were listening
- 1:41to all these things, and were scoffing at Him.
- 1:43And he said to them, You are those who justify yourselves in
- 1:46the sight of men, but God knows your hearts.
- 1:49For that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable
- 1:51in the sight of God. The law and the prophets were
- 1:54proclaimed until John. Since that time the gospel of
- 1:57the Kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is
- 2:00forcing his way into it. But it is easier for heaven and
- 2:03earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the law to
- 2:06fail. Everyone who divorces his wife
- 2:09and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one
- 2:12who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.
- 2:15Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and
- 2:18fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day.
- 2:22And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with
- 2:25sores, and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were
- 2:29falling from the rich man's table.
- 2:31Besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores.
- 2:35Now the poor man died, and was carried away by the angels to
- 2:37Abraham's bosom. And the rich man also died and
- 2:40was buried in Hades. He lifted up his eyes, being in
- 2:43torment, and saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom.
- 2:47And he cried out and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me
- 2:51and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in
- 2:53water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.
- 2:59But Abraham said, Child, remember that during your life
- 3:02you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things.
- 3:06But now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.
- 3:10And besides all this, between US and you there is a great chasm
- 3:13fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will
- 3:16not be able, and that none may crossover from there to us.
- 3:21And he said, Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my
- 3:24father's house, for I have 5 brothers, in order that he may
- 3:27warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of
- 3:30torment. But Abraham said they have Moses
- 3:33and the prophets, let them hear them.
- 3:36But he said no, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from
- 3:40the dead, they will repent. But he said to him, if they do
- 3:44not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be
- 3:47persuaded, even if someone rises from the dead.
