- 0:38Speaker 1: and start writing your own stories. We get caught up
- 0:40Speaker 1: in what you read, get caught up in social media,

- 0:45Speaker 1: I will tell people, leave with your gifts, lead about
- 0:47Speaker 1: your passion, leave with what you want, but don't let

- 0:53Speaker 1: or living your dreams. My interviews that I bring on
- 0:55Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations will be celebrity CEOs, entrepreneurs, and I
- 0:59Speaker 1: like to call interested decision makers. My next guess she's
- 1:02Speaker 1: one of my favorites. She makes me laugh, she makes
- 1:04Speaker 1: you smile all the time. Is Jody Watley. She's a
- 1:07Speaker 1: Grammy Award winning trend setting pioneer and music video, fashion
- 1:11Speaker 1: and style. Jodie is listening on Billboards Top sixty Hot
- 1:14Speaker 1: one hundred female artists of all time. She's top twenty
- 1:17Speaker 1: five dance artists of all time. She became one of
- 1:19Speaker 1: the first artists to release a million selling video, dance
- 1:22Speaker 1: The Fitness. She was the first woman of color to
- 1:26Speaker 1: play Rizzo on Broadway and they hit Musical Greece. She's
- 1:29Speaker 1: an entrepreneur and she's celebrating the thirty fourth anniversary of
- 1:33Speaker 1: her breakthrough Grammy Award winning solo album and the mega
- 1:36Speaker 1: hits like I'm Looking for a New Love, Don't You
- 1:42Speaker 1: Want Me? And still a three? And please marking the
- 1:45Speaker 1: money Making conversation before we get out of hand, Joy girl,
- 1:49Speaker 1: come on down here. How you doing, my friend? I'm great,
- 1:55Speaker 1: great to see you and uh be here with you
- 1:58Speaker 1: on money making conversation. You know, it's really always a
- 2:01Speaker 1: pleasure to do. Your images always shine you know, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: I always tell people are you know I talked about
- 2:07Speaker 1: that earlier in my intro about age, because people stend
- 2:10Speaker 1: to start saying what they can't do when they reach
- 2:12Speaker 1: a certain age. Talk give people advice about that journey
- 2:17Speaker 1: and that that limits yourself, specially your friends and your
- 2:19Speaker 1: family can stop you too, you know, and your loved
- 2:21Speaker 1: ones can stop you to talk about being able to
- 2:23Speaker 1: overcome the odds. Basically, sometimes it's just you look in
- 2:27Speaker 1: the mirror stopping yourself. You know. That is so true.
- 2:31Speaker 1: And one of my mantras is just live life. Forget
- 2:35Speaker 1: your age, don't worry about what people have to say
- 2:38Speaker 1: about you. Just live and and be your authentic self.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And I think if you get hung up on age,
- 2:45Speaker 1: it really will prevent you from, um, you don't know
- 2:50Speaker 1: what the exuberance the new goals. Um. You know, life
- 2:55Speaker 1: doesn't end until it ends. And so I'm a big
- 3:00Speaker 1: a lever and uh and that's why I'm always so exuberant,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you know, I'm just mad, absolutely, And it's not about
- 3:09Speaker 1: trying to dress young and not trying to act young.
- 3:12Speaker 1: It's being topical. It's about being able to live life.
- 3:15Speaker 1: And it was my staff. I always said rio, you know,
- 3:18Speaker 1: act your age from a standpoint, how I walk, I address,
- 3:21Speaker 1: how I talk, And I watched television. I watch television
- 3:25Speaker 1: like I want King Kong, I mean in Godzilla for
- 3:27Speaker 1: the second time with my daughter, you know, because I
- 3:30Speaker 1: just liked them know different things and like the experience
- 3:32Speaker 1: of the thing. Then I turn around watch Captain America
- 3:34Speaker 1: on Disney Plus. And then I turn around and watch
- 3:37Speaker 1: different types of movies, different types of sitcoms, and I'm
- 3:39Speaker 1: in tune it with the news that's going on as
- 3:42Speaker 1: social injustice and COVID nineteen. And that's really what we're
- 3:46Speaker 1: talking about. Still aware, correct, yes, absolutely being aware and
- 3:52Speaker 1: also always having that you know, that inner child that
- 3:55Speaker 1: should always be within us to continue to learn and
- 4:00Speaker 1: grow and explore and be excited. It's like, get excited
- 4:04Speaker 1: about being alive, being here, having new opportunities each day.
- 4:09Speaker 1: It's a new opportunity. And to let your light shine.
- 4:13Speaker 1: You know. If I was saying before what it is,
- 4:15Speaker 1: you're like, don't let anyone, damn it, reduce it. Keep
- 4:19Speaker 1: your light shining, you know. And I wanted to get
- 4:22Speaker 1: you back on the show because last time we talked
- 4:24Speaker 1: was in September and we were still was you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: Kovie was still wrapped around our neck, but we're still
- 4:29Speaker 1: were starting to see some light. And you know, live
- 4:33Speaker 1: live concerts were basically the live events in general was
- 4:36Speaker 1: shut down. Everything was virtual. You really can make money virtual,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and so so the tory industry was just put on hold.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And so now we're kind of COVID vaccine. I will
- 4:45Speaker 1: tell everybody I've been vaccinated twice, and I'm not putting
- 4:48Speaker 1: that pressure on anybody, just like you know, that's what
- 4:50Speaker 1: I did. I just felt that I wanted to take
- 4:52Speaker 1: control of my life. I didn't have control of my life.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I still wear masks, Jody, and I still through the
- 4:57Speaker 1: hand sanitizer. But still I feel I'm more comfortable, not
- 5:01Speaker 1: that I've been vaccinated. I feel like I when I
- 5:03Speaker 1: when I get the sniffles. I don't think there's COVID
- 5:05Speaker 1: nineteen okay, you know exactly. And I just had my
- 5:11Speaker 1: first dose and I posted a little short clip on
- 5:13Speaker 1: my social media first dose last week. And like you,
- 5:19Speaker 1: it's like being in control of something that was, you know,
- 5:23Speaker 1: out of our hands, and to encourage others to to do,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you know, do, let's do our part to get beyond
- 5:30Speaker 1: this I'm still masking too, and I will continue to
- 5:34Speaker 1: double mask even though even after I get my second dose, um,
- 5:39Speaker 1: because I'm comfortable with it now, you know, and so
- 5:43Speaker 1: and just washing hands and sanitize. It's it's to me,
- 5:47Speaker 1: it's a way of life now. But I feel, like
- 5:51Speaker 1: you said, it's like when you get the sniffles or something,
- 5:53Speaker 1: you won't think, oh my gosh, you know, uh so, yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: I got dose one and my hurt like crazy though
- 6:01Speaker 1: it's the only thing. People it's like, I got, I
- 6:03Speaker 1: got fight fighter. What did you Which one did you get?
- 6:05Speaker 1: Because you know, so they will tell you to get
- 6:09Speaker 1: there what you're gonna get. You know you said you
- 6:10Speaker 1: won't show up. I want mcdonna. Well they go, you
- 6:12Speaker 1: don't know, just get in lie when you get a
- 6:14Speaker 1: lot and tell you when they hit you all listen
- 6:17Speaker 1: Johnson and Johnson. They don't know. But all I know
- 6:20Speaker 1: is that you know, just you know, it really did
- 6:23Speaker 1: change me in the positive. I'm not gonna Jody when
- 6:25Speaker 1: I got that the first when I was like you
- 6:28Speaker 1: just you don't realize how much stress you under walking around,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, people coming up to you. Some people might
- 6:36Speaker 1: come up to you mask, some people come with you.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Remember the mask, don't guarantee you. You know this. You
- 6:40Speaker 1: look at CDC. They have changed the rules every other day,
- 6:42Speaker 1: you know. And so when you get food, you go shopping,
- 6:45Speaker 1: did you touch the grocery basket? When you get gas,
- 6:48Speaker 1: did you did you? Did you? Did you transfer the
- 6:51Speaker 1: possible jerve to your stern wheel that you did? You did?
- 6:54Speaker 1: Don't know. It's just so many things that that come
- 6:58Speaker 1: into play. Then now I don't have to worry about
- 7:01Speaker 1: But I am still cautious because that's the way we're
- 7:04Speaker 1: gonna live for the rest of our lives. We're gonna be.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And I hand sanitizement because they said flu flues are down,
- 7:10Speaker 1: flu hospitalizations are down because we all sanitizing because we
- 7:14Speaker 1: are more cautious. So, like you said, it's not gonna change, right, No,
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think it will be the lifestyle. And you know,
- 7:21Speaker 1: I'm uh hand sanitizer. I have alcohol wipes in the car,
- 7:26Speaker 1: so when I'm going to the store, it's like, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I've got gloves and sanitizing the gloves and so you know, constantly.
- 7:34Speaker 1: But you know, like you said, and I never even
- 7:37Speaker 1: had a flu shot. And so initially for people that
- 7:41Speaker 1: you know, you remember when we were little and it
- 7:44Speaker 1: was mandatory you had to get the vaccine at school
- 7:47Speaker 1: and kids would be crying and passing out. And so
- 7:50Speaker 1: that was the last time I've ever had and I
- 7:52Speaker 1: still have a scar on my arm from that one.
- 7:58Speaker 1: You know, as someone who hates needles, that it was,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you know, to anyone listening, it really it goes so
- 8:04Speaker 1: quick and it was just like a little sting. And
- 8:06Speaker 1: then I've never been so I never thought I would
- 8:09Speaker 1: say I was actually relieved, like you said, to to
- 8:13Speaker 1: get you know, step one, and then I have the
- 8:16Speaker 1: second one. But for a vaccine, you know, it wasn't
- 8:20Speaker 1: it brings a little sense of peace with it, you know,
- 8:23Speaker 1: because it has been stressful. Well, you have to get
- 8:27Speaker 1: vaccinated because some things are happening for you. Girl with
- 8:30Speaker 1: the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, so
- 8:34Speaker 1: you got to come down to Nashville here pretty soon.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Before you come down to Nashville, use a point as
- 8:39Speaker 1: the first ever ambassador for the National Museum of African
- 8:42Speaker 1: American Music. I know a lot of those people up there.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I put the beautic The building is beautiful, by the way,
- 8:48Speaker 1: It's a beautiful building. So tell about tell us about
- 8:51Speaker 1: how you got tied into it and what are some
- 8:53Speaker 1: of the responsibilities being the ambassador of the National Museum
- 8:56Speaker 1: of African American Music and in all its session honor,
- 9:01Speaker 1: you know, needless to say, UM, to be appointed as
- 9:05Speaker 1: the first ambassador, and it really, um, you know, being
- 9:09Speaker 1: recognized for you know, being a trend setter in music,
- 9:13Speaker 1: my longevity, uh, my endeavors as an artist, humanitarian and
- 9:20Speaker 1: a lot of the things that I've done over the years,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and UM, you know, it's it's important to to be
- 9:28Speaker 1: someone who's always known for being you know, well spoken,
- 9:32Speaker 1: prepared in all of those things. And so uh you know,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I'm sure that went into the decision. And so you know,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I encourage memberships and um, spreading information about the museum. UM.
- 9:48Speaker 1: So far there's over a fire artifacts and more to come.
- 9:53Speaker 1: They have interactive galleries. Uh, they have educational programs. So
- 9:59Speaker 1: it's perfect for music lovers of all ages. UM, it's
- 10:03Speaker 1: not even that expensive and for anyone who proclaims to
- 10:06Speaker 1: love African American music and love us. You know, it's
- 10:10Speaker 1: not a race thing, but anyone can support the museum
- 10:13Speaker 1: and the memberships. Uh, you know, fifty dollars a year
- 10:18Speaker 1: is really you know, uh doable four dollars a month,
- 10:25Speaker 1: roughly four dollars a month. That's what you were talking
- 10:27Speaker 1: about to support our history and it is the only
- 10:30Speaker 1: history of its kind in the world. And um and so,
- 10:34Speaker 1: like I said, for me, it's an honor to be
- 10:36Speaker 1: the first ambassador. You know, there's a on the general
- 10:40Speaker 1: tron in front at least down you know, you know,
- 10:48Speaker 1: it's really a beautiful I look at my career, I
- 10:51Speaker 1: look at the people I've involved in and I used
- 10:53Speaker 1: the word career because you have a career because you know,
- 10:57Speaker 1: a lot of people get opportunities in this business. And
- 10:59Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about, his life, I look
- 11:02Speaker 1: at and stay relevant and you're you. You managed to
- 11:05Speaker 1: stay relevant and also have a career at the same time.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And that's a scary part because you know, you started
- 11:11Speaker 1: out so young in your career and now you look
- 11:14Speaker 1: at it now. So to talk to my my viewers
- 11:16Speaker 1: and my listeners about you know, longevity and the word
- 11:20Speaker 1: career in the words of Jody Wattley, you know, longevity
- 11:25Speaker 1: is the key because you know you can have uh,
- 11:31Speaker 1: it sustains success is what it's all about and I
- 11:34Speaker 1: think with the decision making, uh, with being a professional,
- 11:40Speaker 1: with seeing the big picture. Um. It just has always
- 11:45Speaker 1: been really important to me as opposed to doing things,
- 11:50Speaker 1: you know, for you know, quick fame or quick glory
- 11:53Speaker 1: or a quick dollar. Um. And so to anyone listening
- 11:58Speaker 1: and watching, it really is always look at the bigger picture,
- 12:02Speaker 1: even when no one else you might be the only
- 12:04Speaker 1: one in your circle, might not have a circle. Uh.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And people may try to talk you into things that
- 12:11Speaker 1: are very shortsighted, but you always have to have that vision.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Longevity is the greatest thing no matter what your profession is,
- 12:20Speaker 1: but especially in the music business because it's so you know,
- 12:24Speaker 1: fickle and um. And so I've just really worked at
- 12:28Speaker 1: my craft and also been able to expand you know,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I'm a songwriter as well. Uh. And so to have
- 12:36Speaker 1: songs that I can still sing or songs that still
- 12:39Speaker 1: get played on the radio. Um. You know, past and
- 12:43Speaker 1: present is everything. But I think a lot of people
- 12:45Speaker 1: get caught up in the and and I'm very much
- 12:48Speaker 1: live in the moment. But when you're having your career,
- 12:51Speaker 1: you've got to think in the long term and not
- 12:54Speaker 1: the short term. Wow, because I know that I mean
- 12:59Speaker 1: When I first walked stage door stand up comedy in
- 13:01Speaker 1: college and and all, it was just it's just an idea.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I don't know why I was on stage, but I
- 13:07Speaker 1: just knew how something I wanted to do. At what
- 13:09Speaker 1: point in your career because you were just blessed with gifts,
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know, and God, I always believe God gives us
- 13:15Speaker 1: all gifts. It's what we do with those gifts and
- 13:17Speaker 1: how much work we put into following that dream or opportunity.
- 13:20Speaker 1: When didn't you realize this was something that you could
- 13:22Speaker 1: do versus something that you was given opportunity to pursue.
- 13:26Speaker 1: In other words, you can make money off this, you
- 13:28Speaker 1: could live off this. Then comes to challenges of like
- 13:31Speaker 1: I said, sustainability, great question. Um, you know when I
- 13:38Speaker 1: was first starting out, like I said, I always hope
- 13:41Speaker 1: that you know, it's like giving an opportunity, um, being
- 13:46Speaker 1: prepared because my dad, you know, arrested, so he used
- 13:49Speaker 1: to always talk about planning, preparation and purpose and so
- 13:54Speaker 1: it's kind of ingrained in me. Uh So when opportunity
- 13:59Speaker 1: was ready was presenting itself, I was ready for it.
- 14:03Speaker 1: So within the opportunity is how I handled it, How
- 14:06Speaker 1: I handled the adversity how I handled, you know, learning
- 14:11Speaker 1: from mistakes and always using the knowledge to to improve
- 14:17Speaker 1: my situation. You know, starting out, you know, not really
- 14:21Speaker 1: knowing about the business of music, but learning the business
- 14:26Speaker 1: of music is more business than it is. You know.
- 14:29Speaker 1: They call it show business for a reason. Business part
- 14:33Speaker 1: is and a lot of people get that wrong as
- 14:35Speaker 1: they get caught up and oh, I'm famous, and I
- 14:38Speaker 1: never cared about being famous. I can tell you that
- 14:41Speaker 1: I always wanted to be, you know, a performer, have
- 14:45Speaker 1: my own business, UM design club. Like I always had
- 14:50Speaker 1: a lot of ambition, but I've always been really level headed.
- 14:54Speaker 1: And I think when I knew I would make a living,
- 15:00Speaker 1: it's just and maybe I always believed that, um, but
- 15:06Speaker 1: there was no one moment where I so I can
- 15:08Speaker 1: make a living from this. It's finally here, the season
- 15:11Speaker 1: of celebration, and no matter how you celebrate with family
- 15:15Speaker 1: and friends, whether you're preparing for Reis magos or Karamu
- 15:18Speaker 1: lighting the Manura, are going to midnight mass, Coals has
- 15:22Speaker 1: just what you need to make those traditions special. Plus
- 15:26Speaker 1: you'll find gifts for all your loved ones. Send warm
- 15:29Speaker 1: wishes with cozy fleeces, sweaters, loungeware, blankets, and throws. Support
- 15:33Speaker 1: minority owned or founded brands by giving gifts from human
- 15:37Speaker 1: Nation and shame moisture, or treat them to everyone's favorite
- 15:40Speaker 1: active wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas, and under Armour.
- 15:45Speaker 1: And in the spirit of giving, Coals Cares is donating
- 15:48Speaker 1: eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide committed to the
- 15:52Speaker 1: health and well being of our communities. No matter how
- 15:55Speaker 1: you celebrate, when you shop at Coals, you're right where
- 15:58Speaker 1: you belong. So this season, give with all your heart
- 16:02Speaker 1: with great gifts from Coals or Coals dot com. What
- 16:06Speaker 1: grows in the forest trees, sure no. What else grows
- 16:09Speaker 1: in the forest, Our imagination, our sense of wonder, and
- 16:13Speaker 1: our family bonds grow too, because when we disconnect from
- 16:17Speaker 1: this and connect with this, we reconnect with each other.
- 16:24Speaker 1: The forest is closer than you think. Find a forest
- 16:27Speaker 1: near you and start exploring. I Discover the Forest dot
- 16:30Speaker 1: Org brought to you by the United States Forest Service
- 16:33Speaker 1: and the ad Council. If I could be you and
- 16:37Speaker 1: you could be me for just one hour, if you
- 16:39Speaker 1: could find a way to get inside each other's mind,
- 16:43Speaker 1: walk a mile in my shoes Waco Mile in my shoes,
- 16:47Speaker 1: walcome shoes. We've all felt left out, and for some
- 16:51Speaker 1: that feeling lasts more than a moment. We can change
- 16:55Speaker 1: that learn how it belonging begins with us dot org,
- 16:58Speaker 1: brought to you by the AD Council. Welcome out right.
- 17:05Speaker 1: You know, it's really interesting when you say that, because
- 17:08Speaker 1: you don't. You know, sometimes you just get in the
- 17:09Speaker 1: moment and then all of a sudden, you know, the
- 17:11Speaker 1: first part of it is just enthusiasm, you know, walking
- 17:15Speaker 1: on stage, seeing all these people, you know, you know,
- 17:17Speaker 1: it's almost you almost get caught up in it. And
- 17:19Speaker 1: so but you have to somewhere along in line put
- 17:22Speaker 1: those blinders on and slow down and go, Okay, what
- 17:24Speaker 1: do I want to do? And those are the tough
- 17:26Speaker 1: decisions that you have to make because it allows you
- 17:29Speaker 1: now to be DA inducted into the National Museum of
- 17:35Speaker 1: African American Music in June of one. If that's not
- 17:40Speaker 1: a great thing that happened post pandemic, because it couldn't
- 17:43Speaker 1: have happened in tell Us about getting that phone called
- 17:48Speaker 1: tell us about you know, just putting yourself in. That's
- 17:51Speaker 1: that's iconic, That's that's that's beautiful. You know, tears actually,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and wishing my dad would was here and he's smiling
- 18:00Speaker 1: from above because he was the one that always, you know,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and stilled so many you know, great principles and me
- 18:07Speaker 1: and said, you know, I was going to be a
- 18:11Speaker 1: star and all those things. But also at the same time,
- 18:14Speaker 1: you know, remember only the strong survived. Always. My dad,
- 18:19Speaker 1: he used to get on my nerves because he always
- 18:21Speaker 1: had these pearls of wisdom, and it's just like, oh
- 18:25Speaker 1: my god, you know, but I'm so thankful because it's
- 18:28Speaker 1: stuck with me, you know, it's stuck with me. And
- 18:31Speaker 1: I think that's why the same part of it never
- 18:35Speaker 1: has really is to be proud of my work and
- 18:39Speaker 1: to um inspire other people. It's very important to me,
- 18:44Speaker 1: and I think that I always hope that that is
- 18:48Speaker 1: the example that I continue to to set, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 1: um and to to have it by being my authentic self,
- 18:58Speaker 1: have the style that have and to have influenced so
- 19:01Speaker 1: many people, and to be recognized for that in this
- 19:05Speaker 1: National Museum of African American Music, it's just it's just
- 19:09Speaker 1: a blessing. I don't mess because you've got a lot
- 19:11Speaker 1: of looks now, Jody, Okay, now you got a lot
- 19:13Speaker 1: of looks. Now, you know we can go back. Curt
- 19:17Speaker 1: got the exercise look, you got that. I'm looking for
- 19:20Speaker 1: what I'm saying, and so you got that second time,
- 19:24Speaker 1: you got that look. You've got so many great looks.
- 19:27Speaker 1: So so is it gonna be a wax when I
- 19:29Speaker 1: go up there in Nashville? Am I gonna see a
- 19:31Speaker 1: wax figure of you? I'm gonna see a photo? What
- 19:34Speaker 1: iconic look are they gonna have for you or display
- 19:37Speaker 1: at the museum? And I can't give it away. It is.
- 19:41Speaker 1: It is Jody Watley and it's one of my solo
- 19:44Speaker 1: iconic looks, and um, I'm just so like I said,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I can't wait to see it in how they put
- 19:52Speaker 1: the installation together. But I've curating, uh, some of my
- 19:57Speaker 1: most curated iconic pieces, okay for people to see. So
- 20:02Speaker 1: when they see it, they'll be like, oh my god,
- 20:04Speaker 1: you know from the Jumbo who you know? You know,
- 20:12Speaker 1: it's like that's Jody w Oh my god. You know.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So I'm just so excited. It's unbelievable, you know. And
- 20:20Speaker 1: we haven't fun because you know, and I'm just teasing
- 20:23Speaker 1: you out of this tremendous respect and trying to get
- 20:26Speaker 1: a little inside information on mighty make a conversation, But
- 20:28Speaker 1: I know the big prize is being in June, being
- 20:33Speaker 1: there at this celebration with family, with friends, industry executives
- 20:38Speaker 1: of other legends in the building. I've been fortunate to
- 20:41Speaker 1: be recognized for my my talents and what I've done
- 20:44Speaker 1: in this business. And it's really kind of interesting, Jody,
- 20:48Speaker 1: because you don't, you know, you live a life so
- 20:50Speaker 1: fast and live a life so to the next moment.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Sometimes you have to you don't look back and realize
- 20:56Speaker 1: that path of success. And I mentioned only a few
- 20:59Speaker 1: things that you've accomplished in your amazing life. So, like
- 21:03Speaker 1: you said, when you got the call, you were in tears.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Now as it gets closer, we're in April, made you okay,
- 21:10Speaker 1: it's a couple of months now, right. Well, you know
- 21:13Speaker 1: thing too about getting the vaccine because I haven't traveled
- 21:17Speaker 1: and I'll probably have some sort of PTSD, you know,
- 21:21Speaker 1: just being and not really being around too many people.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I've really been in a in a bubble and so
- 21:28Speaker 1: so I'm excited to make the trip, uh to Nashville,
- 21:32Speaker 1: and you know, uh, it's gonna be beautiful. Well, you know,
- 21:39Speaker 1: because you know people gonna want to be on that
- 21:41Speaker 1: red carpet. Okay, I gotta turn this way. You gotta
- 21:43Speaker 1: turn this way. People donna want to want you to
- 21:46Speaker 1: touch them. You're gonna want you to do some selfies. Girl.
- 21:50Speaker 1: You better be you better be maped up. Get your
- 21:52Speaker 1: little plastic sheel on your face. You better at your
- 21:55Speaker 1: look special design something you know, you know, but listen,
- 22:02Speaker 1: but the blessed it is thirty four years anniversary of
- 22:05Speaker 1: you that that that single, that that they put you
- 22:08Speaker 1: out there and made you a star at the next up.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Let me say, let me correct it, the next level
- 22:13Speaker 1: star as a solo artist, because that's all we all
- 22:16Speaker 1: but want, because you could be in a group maintained success.
- 22:19Speaker 1: But you know, you gotta kind of grow as a group.
- 22:21Speaker 1: You gotta train as a group, kind of answers group.
- 22:23Speaker 1: But when that album dropped, what was the most defining
- 22:27Speaker 1: moment for you at that time? Oh you know what?
- 22:32Speaker 1: Um before winning the Grammy Award for Best New Artists,
- 22:36Speaker 1: when the single started taking out my first the debut single,
- 22:40Speaker 1: looking for a New Love, and when it started taking off,
- 22:46Speaker 1: and and Joe Busby who signed me, who was just
- 22:49Speaker 1: so amazing and uh has so much confidence in me
- 22:53Speaker 1: and allowed me to present my authentic self. I said, Gerald,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I just you know, I want to beat Jody hotly.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I don't want to be marketed as formerly. I just
- 23:04Speaker 1: it's Jody Way, Jody Whatley, and this is how I
- 23:08Speaker 1: want the visuals to be. And so he really, you know,
- 23:11Speaker 1: we all need someone like that, and he was the one.
- 23:15Speaker 1: He just gave me the freedom. But then galvanized the company,
- 23:19Speaker 1: um and the single right away. It just started taking off.
- 23:25Speaker 1: And you know, I was going kind of like a politician.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I mean, Gerald, have me going across the country shaking
- 23:32Speaker 1: hands and meeting greets and you know, sners and fish
- 23:37Speaker 1: fries and at the Pine, and I was meeting everybody
- 23:41Speaker 1: you know, and was happy to do it. And so
- 23:43Speaker 1: there was such a positive anticipation and um and they
- 23:49Speaker 1: loved the song and then they just really um connected
- 23:55Speaker 1: with me with the grassroots effort that was invaluable them
- 24:00Speaker 1: and uh, I just I never in my wildest dreams
- 24:05Speaker 1: I thought it was good, you know, but we all
- 24:07Speaker 1: think our work is good and great, but it just
- 24:11Speaker 1: it just took off like that's beautiful, just like God
- 24:15Speaker 1: just made it happen. You know. You was our girlfriend.
- 24:18Speaker 1: You know you was use our girlfriend. You know, buddy,
