- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarful Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Welcome to Connecting the Dots. I'm Alex.
- 0:18And I'm Morgan. Good to be with you today. It
- 0:20is Wednesday, October 29th, 2025. That's right.
- 0:24And before we jump into... the big tech stories
- 0:27we're tracking. How about a quick look outside?
- 0:29Sounds good. Here in Sacramento, it's shaping
- 0:32up to be gorgeous, sunny, high around 80 degrees
- 0:34Fahrenheit. Nice. Nationally, though, a bit more
- 0:39serious, there are critical fire weather alerts
- 0:42active for parts of Southern California and South
- 0:44Texas. We're talking gusty winds, really low
- 0:47humidity. So definitely stay alert if you're
- 0:49in those areas. Yeah, good reminder. And elsewhere,
- 0:52there's widespread rain and thunderstorms moving
- 0:54from the Mississippi Valley up towards the Northeast.
- 0:57Okay, shifting gears to the markets, what are
- 0:59we seeing? Well, a slight dip yesterday, very
- 1:01small. The Dow and S &P 500 both down about a
- 1:06tenth of a percent. Right, barely noticeable
- 1:08on the day, but the weekly picture is strong,
- 1:10isn't it? It really is. Since October 20th, both
- 1:12the Dow and the S &P are up a solid 3%, so good
- 1:16momentum there. And Bitcoin, still holding strong.
- 1:19Yep. Saw a little bump yesterday, about 0 .4%,
- 1:22closed near $113 ,400. Still way up there. OK,
- 1:26so the underlying trend seems, well, pretty optimistic
- 1:29still. Agreed. Now, before we get into our Morningstar
- 1:32report and connect those tech dots, a quick word
- 1:34about our sponsor, Old Glory. Ah, yes, Old Glory.
- 1:39They've got such a great collection of music
- 1:40and sports fan merchandise, really iconic stuff.
- 1:43Totally. And, you know, if you're thinking ahead
- 1:45to the holidays, maybe for that techie friend
- 1:48who also loves a specific band or their favorite
- 1:51team. Perfect place to look. Good call. There's
- 1:54some really cool gear. And Old Glory is offering
- 1:56our listeners 15 % off their entire purchase.
- 1:59Just use the promo code SNARFUL at checkout.
- 2:02That's S -N -A -R -F -U -L. SNARFUL for 15 %
- 2:06off. You can find them at oldglory .com. Check
- 2:08it out. OK, let's dive into the tech news. Right.
- 2:10Time for the Morning Star Report. And it seems
- 2:12like NVIDIA is kind of everywhere today. It really
- 2:16does. Story number one. Uber is going big on
- 2:18autonomous vehicles with Nvidia. Big is right.
- 2:21They're planning to scale their global autonomous
- 2:23fleet to 100 ,000 Level 4 vehicles. 100 ,000.
- 2:28And starting in 2027, this isn't just a pilot
- 2:31program anymore. No, this is about full scale
- 2:33operation. And just to clarify for everyone,
- 2:35Level 4 autonomy, or L4, that means the vehicle
- 2:39drives itself completely under certain conditions.
- 2:43Like within a specific geographic area, or maybe
- 2:45only in good weather. Exactly. No human driver
- 2:49needed in those approved zones or conditions.
- 2:51It's the kind of autonomy you could actually
- 2:53use reliably soon. And the tech making this happen
- 2:56is NVIDIA's Drive AGX Hyperion 10 platform. Uber's
- 2:59leaning heavily on it. Yeah, think of Hyperion
- 3:0110 as like the central nervous system for the
- 3:04self -driving car. Okay. It bundles the sensors,
- 3:07the radar, lidar, and crucially the really powerful
- 3:10computer chips needed to process all that data
- 3:12in real time. It's a standardized package. So
- 3:14it helps automakers or ride hailing companies
- 3:17get L4 capable faster. Precisely. It's the foundation.
- 3:21Uber's CEO, Dharakos Rishahi, even called NVIDIA
- 3:24the backbone of the AI era. That's quite an endorsement.
- 3:26But I mean, does relying so much on one company
- 3:29for that backbone create a risk, like giving
- 3:31up too much control? That's definitely the strategic
- 3:34tightrope they're walking. But when you're talking
- 3:36100 ,000 vehicles globally. Standardization becomes
- 3:41key for cost and just, you know, making it work
- 3:43consistently. Speed to market versus controlling
- 3:47every little piece. Exactly. Their betting NVIDIA's
- 3:50platform is the fastest, most reliable way to
- 3:52get there. And their global plans show that urgency.
- 3:55Right. They're testing robo taxis in Munich starting
- 3:57in 2026 and working with a Chinese startup, Momenta,
- 4:01for that. Yeah. Which puts them head to head
- 4:03with Lyft and Baidu, who are also eyeing Europe.
- 4:06Plus, they're already integrating Waymo vehicles
- 4:08in places like Austin, Phoenix, LA. And expanding
- 4:12in the Middle East, too, with partners like WeRide
- 4:14and Pony .ai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh. They're really
- 4:18pushing everywhere. So 100 ,000 L4 vehicles,
- 4:20that feels like the scale needed for autonomous
- 4:23ride hailing to actually become mainstream, maybe
- 4:25even cheaper than regular taxis eventually. That's
- 4:27the goal, moving it from a novelty to a core
- 4:30part of transportation and delivery infrastructure.
- 4:32It's about operational scale. OK. Huge implications
- 4:35there. Let's shift from vehicles moving themselves
- 4:39to AI managing while everything else in a business.
- 4:42Right. Our second story connects Nvidia again,
- 4:45this time with Palantir. They're teaming up to
- 4:48create something they call operational AI for
- 4:51enterprises. Operational AI. Okay, so Palantir,
- 4:55known mostly for government and defense work
- 4:57historically. Yeah, they're making a big push
- 4:59into the corporate world now. So what is operational
- 5:02AI? How is it different from, say, the AI that
- 5:05just analyzes data and gives you a report? Great
- 5:08question. Think of it like this. Analytical AI
- 5:10tells you what happened or predicts what might
- 5:12happen. Operational AI does something about it.
- 5:15in real time. Ah, so it's integrated into the
- 5:18actual business processes, making decisions on
- 5:21the fly. Exactly. It connects the AI brain directly
- 5:24to the hands, so to speak. It takes action based
- 5:27on the data instantly. And the partnership makes
- 5:29this possible how NVIDIA brings the computing
- 5:31power. Right. NVIDIA provides the muscle, their
- 5:34CDX libraries for speed, their Nematron open
- 5:37models for intelligence. Palantir provides the
- 5:40structure. The structure being their ontology
- 5:42and AIP platforms. What did those do? So ontology
- 5:46is like the digital twin, the map of the entire
- 5:48business, inventory, supply chains, operations,
- 5:51everything connected. AIP is the AI engine that
- 5:54runs on that map. OK. Nvidia's tech essentially
- 5:56turbocharges that AIP engine, letting it analyze
- 6:00vast amounts of data and make decisions like
- 6:02instantly. Gotcha. Can you give an example? The
- 6:05Lowe's case study is perfect. They've built a
- 6:07digital replica of their whole global supply
- 6:10chain using this tech. Okay. So imagine a hurricane
- 6:13suddenly delays a shipment. Instead of waiting
- 6:15hours for someone to figure out alternatives.
- 6:18The AI system just reroutes everything automatically.
- 6:21Instantly. Right. It simulates new routes, calculates
- 6:23costs, adjusts orders worldwide, all continuously
- 6:26optimized. That's operational AI in action. Wow.
- 6:29And Palantir's CEO emphasizes keeping AI tethered
- 6:32to reality, right? Using accurate data. Crucial
- 6:35point, it can't just make stuff up. It needs
- 6:37that solid, structured data foundation from ontology.
- 6:41NVIDIA provides the processing power, Kalantir
- 6:43provides the structured reality for the AI to
- 6:44work with. So it turns data into immediate, actionable
- 6:48intelligence. That's huge for logistics, manufacturing,
- 6:52really any complex operation. Absolutely, a massive
- 6:55advantage. Okay, so we've seen AI scaling in
- 6:57vehicles, scaling in enterprise operations, both
- 7:00heavily reliant on NVIDIA's tech. Which leads
- 7:04us right into our third story. The geopolitical
- 7:06angle. Yeah. Because this tech isn't developed
- 7:08in a vacuum. Exactly. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang
- 7:12was in Washington recently talking about the
- 7:14delicate balance needed in the U .S.-China AI
- 7:16competition. Yeah. Despite all the tensions and
- 7:19the U .S. export controls trying to limit China's
- 7:22access to advanced chips. Huang's message was
- 7:24pretty direct, wasn't it? He warned that completely
- 7:27isolating China's tech ecosystem isn't actually
- 7:30beneficial for the U .S. long term. He said it
- 7:32hurts us more. His argument is basically economic
- 7:35tied to innovation. How so? Well, Nvidia's market
- 7:38share in China for these advanced AI chips plummeted
- 7:41from like 95 % down to basically zero because
- 7:45of the restrictions. Wow, zero. That's what he's
- 7:47saying. And that represents potentially billions
- 7:49in lost sales, maybe $50 billion, he suggested.
- 7:52And losing that revenue, he argues, means less
- 7:55money available for the huge R &D investments
- 7:58needed right here in the US to develop the next
- 8:00generation of chips, like the ones beyond Blackwell.
- 8:03So cutting off China might inadvertently slow
- 8:06down U .S. innovation by starving companies of
- 8:09R &D funds generated from global sales. That's
- 8:13a complex loop. It really is. But at the same
- 8:16time, Nvidia is making very public commitments
- 8:19to the U .S. Like manufacturing the new Blackwell
- 8:22AI GPUs in Arizona. Exactly. And building seven
- 8:25massive new supercomputers for the Department
- 8:28of Energy for defense and research. One with
- 8:31Oracle uses 100 ,000 black wool chips. That's
- 8:34a huge commitment to U .S. infrastructure. So
- 8:36they're playing both sides, in a way, showing
- 8:38U .S. loyalty while also arguing for access to
- 8:41global markets. It's a tightrope walk. And then
- 8:43there's the whole enforcement problem. Can the
- 8:44U .S. actually stop these chips from getting
- 8:46into China if they really want them? Yeah, you
- 8:48hear reports about middlemen, smuggling networks.
- 8:51I remember that mega speed investigation. Right.
- 8:53It's incredibly hard to completely fence off
- 8:56high value, easily transportable tech in a globalized
- 8:59economy. So, the US government is trying to balance
- 9:02national security, keeping advanced AI out of
- 9:06China's military, with the economic reality that
- 9:09US tech leadership relies on global sales and
- 9:11massive R &D funding. That's the crux of it.
- 9:14It connects everything. Innovation, supply chains,
- 9:16national security, global economics. It's arguably
- 9:19the biggest underlying story in tech right now.
- 9:21Absolutely fascinating stuff. Okay, that wraps
- 9:23up our Morningstar report for today. But before
- 9:26we recap and give you our final thought, let's
- 9:28quickly mention our other sponsor. Yes. If you're
- 9:30into golf, or know someone who is, you should
- 9:32check out SCONI. SCONI is the premium golf shoe
- 9:35store. Really high quality materials, focused
- 9:38on performance, and looking good on the course

- 9:47that same promo code SNARFL at checkout. That's
- 9:50SNARFL for 15 % off at SCONI .com. Okay, so let's
- 9:54quickly recap the big themes we hit today. First,
- 9:57Uber's massive scaling of its L4 autonomous fleet
- 9:59100 ,000 vehicles plan. Yeah. Autonomy is really
- 10:02moving towards mainstream operation. Second,
- 10:05Palantir and NVIDIA joining forces to bring operational
- 10:08AI to businesses, letting them manage complex
- 10:11logistics like supply chains in real time, turning
- 10:14data into instant action. Think Lowe's. And third,
- 10:18The really tricky geopolitical situation in video
- 10:20finds itself in balancing U .S. security concerns
- 10:23and export controls against the need for global
- 10:27market access to fund future innovation. The
- 10:31Jensen Huang tightrope walk. It really feels
- 10:33like AI is rapidly integrating into the physical
- 10:35world. Cars, supply chains. If the tech hurdles
- 10:38are falling, what's the next big challenge? Regulation.
- 10:41public trust, managing the societal changes.
- 10:44That's definitely something to keep watching.
- 10:45Lots to think about there. Well, we hope connecting
