- 0:00Speaker 1: My next guest there on the phone. Educators turned entrepreneurs
- 0:04Speaker 1: are the epitome of the turn power couple. The Dynamic
- 0:08Speaker 1: Duel started their business business together in the early twenties
- 0:11Speaker 1: and within three years grew into a million dollar business
- 0:14Speaker 1: and only and only two years later, a multimillion dollar business.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Their owners of Hope and Hope Entrepreneurship. They are also
- 0:22Speaker 1: owners of Hope Custom Homes. They're working. They are working
- 0:25Speaker 1: real estate in the thriving city or Huntsville, Alabama. I've
- 0:28Speaker 1: been in Huntsville, Alabama, so I'm not I'm not joking
- 0:32Speaker 1: around when I used the term thriving city of Huntsville, Alabama.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Please welcome to money Making Conversation. Because they are the
- 0:39Speaker 1: stars of their own series, are featured on their own series.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Just in case somebody gets upset when I used the
- 0:44Speaker 1: word stars, love and marriage Huntsville, Please welcome to money
- 0:48Speaker 1: Making Conversation. Melody Melody and Martel Hote. Hello, Hi, Hello,
- 0:56Speaker 1: Hello Bear. Well, first of all, we'll we'll take that.
- 0:59Speaker 1: We'll take that on. You know, you know you got
- 1:03Speaker 1: to because it guess it's by branding and marketing and
- 1:06Speaker 1: guess what I read your bio. You guys, truly understanding
- 1:09Speaker 1: you're not afraid to step out and and and and
- 1:11Speaker 1: and go take your your your careers and opportunities down
- 1:14Speaker 1: to different lane. And that's really important. So well, thank
- 1:18Speaker 1: you so much for that. We appreciate that, and thank
- 1:20Speaker 1: you for having us on your show today. Well, first
- 1:23Speaker 1: of all, is thankful for me because you know, when
- 1:26Speaker 1: you build a brand and you get out there and
- 1:28Speaker 1: it has to have some relevancenes and people easily to
- 1:31Speaker 1: do with Sean McDonald's show, Money Making Conversation Show, because
- 1:33Speaker 1: when I started the platform three years ago, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: I had my celebrity friends call in and and I
- 1:38Speaker 1: didn't know even though why I was talking to him,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you know, just they were calling in and hey with Sean,
- 1:43Speaker 1: and after hay very Seawan, the went, okay, what we're
- 1:45Speaker 1: gonna talk about. So I had to develop a point
- 1:47Speaker 1: of view. And my point of view is to bring
- 1:49Speaker 1: talented individuals. You guys, not only are you know celebrities
- 1:53Speaker 1: from a from a TV standpoint, but your celebrities in
- 1:56Speaker 1: the entrepreneurship the world. And that's why I that's what
- 2:00Speaker 1: I live in entrepreneurship as well as entertainment, and so
- 2:03Speaker 1: I wanted to bring you on the show, both of you,
- 2:05Speaker 1: because it's a power couple. I love bringing power couples
- 2:07Speaker 1: on the show because it really about communication, is about
- 2:10Speaker 1: being it because you bring your work home and you
- 2:12Speaker 1: take your work away from home, and you need to
- 2:14Speaker 1: have to learn when to stop working. And so I
- 2:17Speaker 1: wanted to start off because I had Carlos King. He
- 2:20Speaker 1: was on the show yesterday. He's the creator, executive King.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Now come on. There he was and I told him
- 2:29Speaker 1: that I was going to be interviewing you guys and
- 2:32Speaker 1: he said, wow, he said, they tell us how you
- 2:35Speaker 1: guys created, how that I was the relationship that you
- 2:38Speaker 1: guys have. Start out with Carlos King. Well, you know,
- 2:42Speaker 1: it's so just very interesting and amazing because we actually
- 2:46Speaker 1: met Carlos King five years ago and when we sat
- 2:50Speaker 1: down and met with him, it was for a consultation
- 2:53Speaker 1: to pitch this show idea that we had that was
- 2:56Speaker 1: really based off of us, our family and our bid.
- 3:00Speaker 1: There's an interest in this industry called the property preservation industry,
- 3:04Speaker 1: which is a multi billion dollar industry. Right, So we
- 3:07Speaker 1: met with him paced our show showed them our treatment
- 3:10Speaker 1: and he loved, you know, he loved the idea. He said,
- 3:13Speaker 1: you know, you guys would like you would be great
- 3:15Speaker 1: on TV. But to be honest, the first thing you
- 3:17Speaker 1: said was, you know, what do you say? He said,
- 3:20Speaker 1: you guys want to be on Real Housewives of Atlanta
- 3:23Speaker 1: and right then was like, no, I want to keep
- 3:26Speaker 1: my wife. At that time, yeah, yeah, So that kind
- 3:30Speaker 1: of was a lot of breakups and stuff relationship issue
- 3:33Speaker 1: going on and on Housewives, and was like, I want
- 3:36Speaker 1: to keep my wife. So it's when we met with him.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And then over the years, we just continue to reach
- 3:42Speaker 1: out to Carlos, continuing to fill Huntsville, to sell the
- 3:46Speaker 1: whole brand, showing him what's happening in Huntsville, what's happening
- 3:50Speaker 1: with our family dynamic, and you know, we just you know,
- 3:54Speaker 1: we really pushed the idea and it doesn't happen overnight
- 3:59Speaker 1: all the time time. You know, now we have a
- 4:01Speaker 1: show on the Oprah Winfrey Network and we're so thankful
- 4:03Speaker 1: and excited about that and you know, just thankful for
- 4:06Speaker 1: that opportunity. But it took a long time of us
- 4:09Speaker 1: staying in contact and pushing what we thought would be
- 4:13Speaker 1: a great idea. And then we speak about pushing, you know,
- 4:15Speaker 1: we hired our own staff to you know, record us
- 4:18Speaker 1: and things of that nature for us to do like
- 4:20Speaker 1: signals and things like that. So it was it was
- 4:23Speaker 1: it was work. It was work. Um. So like melody,
- 4:26Speaker 1: mission doesn't happen overnight, so we really have to put
- 4:28Speaker 1: work in to accomplish the goal. And the goal was
- 4:30Speaker 1: to get a show, and we got it for accomplished
- 4:33Speaker 1: and on to the next name. Absolutely the cool thing
- 4:35Speaker 1: about ego. Okay, Huntsville, Alabama, the birthplace of Alabama, uh,
- 4:40Speaker 1: population with about two h thousand population. But then you
- 4:43Speaker 1: started digging into Alabama high tech. You know, the legacy
- 4:47Speaker 1: of the space programs out of Alabama Huntsville about a
- 4:51Speaker 1: lot of people don't know that reason I know that
- 4:53Speaker 1: was that when I left IBM and six to become
- 4:57Speaker 1: a comic on the road, I used to come through
- 4:59Speaker 1: it Huntsville all of to perform. So when I walked
- 5:03Speaker 1: when I went into that market, you know, it's it
- 5:05Speaker 1: is totally different from any of the city in Alabama
- 5:08Speaker 1: because of the high tech. And I totally agree. And
- 5:12Speaker 1: if you have the we have the number two research
- 5:14Speaker 1: park um in the country, huh and the largest research
- 5:19Speaker 1: in the country. And I'm sure that you know when
- 5:21Speaker 1: when you when you came to call, its calls just
- 5:23Speaker 1: like anybody else. Huntsville, Alabram, what's going on in Huntsville, Alabama?
- 5:26Speaker 1: Why would come here and see cows and horses? And
- 5:34Speaker 1: we have that absolutely? Then you got good food too,
- 5:37Speaker 1: and great barbecue, all that good stuff down in Huntsville.
- 5:40Speaker 1: But that's why he looked at an attractive couple. There
- 5:43Speaker 1: was a modern that there was a go getter. That's
- 5:45Speaker 1: why I want you want to be on a Real
- 5:47Speaker 1: Housewives of Atlanta. He was trying to pull y'all into Atlanta,
- 5:50Speaker 1: not knowing that he hadn't done his research yet. And
- 5:53Speaker 1: I'm not saying anything negative because everybody knows what they know.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I just have to know it because guess what. I
- 5:59Speaker 1: was a road comic. I went through all the cities
- 6:01Speaker 1: in America telling my joke, and when I got to Huntsville, Alabama,
- 6:04Speaker 1: it opened my eyes because every restaurant change that you
- 6:07Speaker 1: can find in Houston or Dallas was in Huntsville, Alabama.
- 6:11Speaker 1: The the the intellectual or uh constant crowd was in Alabama.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And I realized that all sitting around that high tech
- 6:19Speaker 1: environment is sitting right there in little old Northern Alabama, Huntsville, Alabama,
- 6:25Speaker 1: and that's where you two. That's awesome, that's yes, that's
- 6:31Speaker 1: hurts you. And that's one of the things you know
- 6:32Speaker 1: that for us, it's so awesome. It's actually, you know,
- 6:35Speaker 1: it's easy certain markets to get a show in, like
- 6:37Speaker 1: your Atlanta you're all age or New York. But we're
- 6:41Speaker 1: doing something right here in Alabama, and I think that's
- 6:43Speaker 1: part of the significance of our program and of our shows. Well,
- 6:46Speaker 1: guess what, I'm very happy about. The finale ended in November,
- 6:52Speaker 1: and so I know it's not on right now, but
- 6:53Speaker 1: let's talk about the entrepreneurship side of you too, and
- 6:56Speaker 1: also the fact that you guys were former school teachers.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Correct that. Yeah, yeah, I have a degree in secondary
- 7:04Speaker 1: education English and I have a degree in special education,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and I gave their teaching thing. What a year ahead
- 7:12Speaker 1: it was, it was, it was. It was toughing, very challenging,
- 7:16Speaker 1: you know, dealing with the kids of today. Let's talk
- 7:20Speaker 1: about that because like my degrees in mathematics, okay, my
- 7:23Speaker 1: mind is in sociology. I went to school and and
- 7:26Speaker 1: I was I was under the thought process that that's
- 7:28Speaker 1: where I was supposed I was supposed to. I don't
- 7:30Speaker 1: reget going to college. I love the fact that I
- 7:32Speaker 1: have a math degree, but that doesn't mean that's your
- 7:35Speaker 1: final journey. And that's why I love about you got
- 7:38Speaker 1: a story. You know, you are educators, so you're out
- 7:41Speaker 1: there shaping minds, and so in your mind said this
- 7:44Speaker 1: is the direction I should go. But but what made
- 7:46Speaker 1: the twist? What? What what made that turn? Because you know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: the actually you were working in the environment of your
- 7:53Speaker 1: career choice. Why the change? You know, Um, I'll start person.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Let martel in from my point of view, you know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I don't feel like there's something set for you and
- 8:05Speaker 1: that's your only path and that's your only way. People
- 8:08Speaker 1: can be versatile, right, I think that for us, even
- 8:11Speaker 1: though we were in the classroom, we also ultimately still
- 8:15Speaker 1: had that business site to us because you gotta think,
- 8:18Speaker 1: keep in mind, when we were teaching, you know, we
- 8:21Speaker 1: started a lawn care business. We you know, gained over
- 8:23Speaker 1: fifty residential clients that we were cutting lines after school
- 8:26Speaker 1: and on the weekends running this business. Ll ceeded, creating
- 8:30Speaker 1: marketing material and things of that nature. You know, we
- 8:34Speaker 1: were doing all of that while we were teaching, and
- 8:36Speaker 1: then we went on to gain some commercial clients in
- 8:38Speaker 1: the line care fielding, UM cleaning certain offices like dental
- 8:42Speaker 1: offices and things like that, UM at night and on
- 8:45Speaker 1: the weekend. So we though we had degrees in education
- 8:49Speaker 1: within us, it was still when you say, Martella, that
- 8:51Speaker 1: business sense and business side to us. Yeah, I think
- 8:54Speaker 1: that mel and now we both are entrepreneurs at heart,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and I think that's the key to a lot of
- 8:59Speaker 1: our tess right. There is no one has to coach
- 9:02Speaker 1: us to be entrepreneurs. It was already within. So if
- 9:06Speaker 1: we're gonna do multiple things, so us teaching, it's like
- 9:09Speaker 1: we have to do something else. And also we wanted
- 9:11Speaker 1: the better lifestyle as well, other than you know, the
- 9:13Speaker 1: thirty forty some thousand dollars salary that we were getting
- 9:16Speaker 1: from teaching and then teaching to you know, it's not
- 9:19Speaker 1: only full time, but it's like over time, and you
- 9:21Speaker 1: don't get paid over time for being a school teacher,
- 9:24Speaker 1: papers and creating lessons and also coming out of your
- 9:28Speaker 1: pockets that goes out to teachers. Right now, and I'm
- 9:33Speaker 1: hopefully one day I'll be starting Melan and I would
- 9:35Speaker 1: be starting a program to assist UM teachers in and
- 9:39Speaker 1: I guess, you know, getting better paying, you know, getting
- 9:42Speaker 1: better more money and things of that nature. Because teachers,
- 9:45Speaker 1: they do a lot, and I also come out of
- 9:47Speaker 1: their pockets. I was saying, because of the fact that,
- 9:49Speaker 1: you know, just just because a kid goes to school,
- 9:52Speaker 1: don't mean they have the proper supplies, don't mean they
- 9:54Speaker 1: have the opportunity to be able to, you know, learn
- 9:57Speaker 1: the curriculum because of the fact that you have to
- 9:59Speaker 1: come out of your I didn't get some extra paperwork
- 10:01Speaker 1: or by a book, and you know, you tend to
- 10:04Speaker 1: start adopting kids and financially you're not even prepared for that.
- 10:07Speaker 1: So you're getting out of that space and doing extra
- 10:09Speaker 1: work at night. And now I was looking at your bio,
- 10:12Speaker 1: it was saying landscaping. That was really you guys got
- 10:16Speaker 1: into landscaping too, because I want to, because you guys
- 10:18Speaker 1: are really entrepreneurs. You know, you you didn't stay in
- 10:21Speaker 1: one on one area. You say, Okay, I see opportunities,
- 10:23Speaker 1: let me go. I see opportunities, let me go. And
- 10:25Speaker 1: that's that's that's and that's how it's been. You know,
- 10:28Speaker 1: from going from the classroom. We something a lot of
- 10:30Speaker 1: times we say we went from the classroom to the boardroom. Okay,
- 10:33Speaker 1: but you know we decided we went you know, we
- 10:36Speaker 1: started the lawndcare business first landscaping and lane care business.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Don't say that real quick, come on now, landscape because
- 10:43Speaker 1: I you know, I have five acres, okay, so I
- 10:45Speaker 1: know when you say landscaping act and that's not like
- 10:48Speaker 1: And I also got another home. My home in Houston.
- 10:51Speaker 1: He know's a regular side yard. So a little man
- 10:53Speaker 1: come in, you know, he he moored, he's gone in
- 10:55Speaker 1: like about a half hour or an hour, Okay, I
- 10:58Speaker 1: think now the one in Houston, it's kind of like
- 11:01Speaker 1: in Atlanta. They're kind of like therefore, you know, all
- 11:04Speaker 1: good six hours because they got to do all so
- 11:07Speaker 1: so so that that that that means a team of
- 11:10Speaker 1: people had to get involved. So I don't want to
- 11:12Speaker 1: like jump so fast and just use the word landscaping.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Are you doing well? You started out doing small yards
- 11:18Speaker 1: or were you or did you elevate fast into the
- 11:21Speaker 1: into the you know, the estate type property so you know,
- 11:24Speaker 1: other things one step at the time. So we were
- 11:26Speaker 1: calling so yeah, we were cutting small lawns at first,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and then we just continued to grow. Um, you know,
- 11:32Speaker 1: we started putting flowers on doors, meeting with various people
- 11:36Speaker 1: to get their business. So and so we're planning flowers,
- 11:39Speaker 1: We're going to apartment complexes and things that nature getting
- 11:42Speaker 1: their businesses UM and commercial properties UM as well. So
- 11:46Speaker 1: that's how we started really being successful as going to
- 11:48Speaker 1: these commercial properties and taking care of their their UM
- 11:52Speaker 1: the land maintenance year round. And then what I remember too,
- 11:55Speaker 1: You know, it's so important whenever you're trying to go
- 11:57Speaker 1: into a new industry or into a new field, that
- 12:00Speaker 1: you also study what your competitors are already doing. So
- 12:03Speaker 1: I can still remember when when Martell and I first
- 12:06Speaker 1: started UM getting residential clients, and we sat down and
- 12:10Speaker 1: I created that flyer on the computer that we were
- 12:13Speaker 1: going to pass out. I remember people have been putting
- 12:15Speaker 1: Martelling over you remember this, this this is so interesting. I
- 12:18Speaker 1: remember people would put their UM landscaping cards or Lune
- 12:22Speaker 1: Care cars in our door, asking you know pretty much
- 12:25Speaker 1: they want your business, right, but you would have to
- 12:27Speaker 1: call them, then they would come out, give you an estimate.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Then you would decide if you're gonna go with all
- 12:33Speaker 1: that time span. So I remember us saying, okay, no,
- 12:36Speaker 1: we're not gonna go that that route so that's too
- 12:38Speaker 1: too much of a time gap in between there. When
- 12:41Speaker 1: we put our flyers out, here's what we would do.
- 12:43Speaker 1: We would go ahead and write down the amount. There
- 12:46Speaker 1: was a blank that we would leave where we would
- 12:48Speaker 1: right in the amount that we would charge to cut
- 12:52Speaker 1: that person's jar. So when they called us, it was
- 12:55Speaker 1: on a cause I want you guys to take care
- 12:58Speaker 1: of our lunch. So we gave like clients. I can't
- 13:02Speaker 1: tell you how smart that is. I can't tell you
- 13:05Speaker 1: how smart. We can be back with more money making
- 13:06Speaker 1: conversations because what you just said frustrates me because I
- 13:10Speaker 1: don't have time you summer. You are now, So while
- 13:13Speaker 1: we gotta talk, be right back with more money making
- 13:15Speaker 1: conversations with the power couple of Melody and Martell Holt
- 13:19Speaker 1: of the Huntsville, Alabama of the Love and Marriage Huntsville,
- 13:23Speaker 1: of The oh Man. They just thriving money making conversations.
- 13:27Speaker 1: To be right back. How this with Sean McDonald. You're
- 13:29Speaker 1: listening to money making conversations on the phone. Is Melanie
- 13:32Speaker 1: and Martell Holt of hunts Belle off Huntsville, Alabama, stars
- 13:37Speaker 1: of these series owned series Love and Marriage Huntsville. We're
- 13:41Speaker 1: talking about Hunchrepreadewship. We were talking about being able to
- 13:45Speaker 1: transition from where people have said that's the path, you
- 13:48Speaker 1: gotta degree, you got both of your teachers, that's where
- 13:50Speaker 1: you should stay. But being able to make that transition,
- 13:54Speaker 1: you guys did it kind of simultaneously. You started developing
- 13:57Speaker 1: your other options while you was working your full time option. Correct,
- 14:02Speaker 1: And that's the premise behind our book, the nine entrepreneur
- 14:06Speaker 1: twelve Questions to consider before taking the leak, because that's
- 14:09Speaker 1: what we were. We were still doing our nine but
- 14:11Speaker 1: we were still pushing our entrepreneurial side. So that's that's
- 14:14Speaker 1: the premise of the book. And then one of the
- 14:16Speaker 1: things one of the key elements to being uh, I
- 14:19Speaker 1: guess having a nine of five and then looking to
- 14:21Speaker 1: go into business, do not give up your nine of
- 14:24Speaker 1: five until you've established your business. You know a lot
- 14:26Speaker 1: of people go wrong when they do that. They leave
- 14:29Speaker 1: prematurely and they wonder why they're selling. It's because you
- 14:33Speaker 1: need to establish that date before you take that leap, right.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I agree, you know all right? When I was doing
- 14:40Speaker 1: stand up, I say I was I'm always going to
- 14:43Speaker 1: be a comedian at hard but I was working at
- 14:46Speaker 1: IBM and uh in college, and I was working at
- 14:49Speaker 1: full time, and you know, an eighty four I was
- 14:51Speaker 1: named Showtimes Funniest Comic in Texas. And eighty five I
- 14:54Speaker 1: was named Showtimes Funniest Comic in Texas. And eighty six
- 14:57Speaker 1: I was named Showtimes Funniest Comic in Texas. And eighty
- 14:59Speaker 1: five I made the finals and lost to l and
- 15:02Speaker 1: de Generous. So but all that was happening why I
- 15:06Speaker 1: was at IBM, and so what I'm talking about, understand.
- 15:10Speaker 1: So so when I left an eight six, I had
- 15:12Speaker 1: a brand, you know, and I so I hit the road,
- 15:15Speaker 1: came through Alabama, Huntsville, you know, told my jokes that
- 15:19Speaker 1: the movie theater that was doing a comedy at the
- 15:21Speaker 1: time way back then. And I just went all over
- 15:23Speaker 1: the country just building my brand, building my brand. Moved
- 15:25Speaker 1: to New York. So I understand and relate to what
- 15:28Speaker 1: you're saying. It's kind of common sense. But people don't
- 15:31Speaker 1: under when people get into business, they kind of lose
- 15:33Speaker 1: their common sense, don't they They do they do because
- 15:37Speaker 1: a lot of people they think it's so simple on
- 15:39Speaker 1: your own business when it's just as complicated as having
- 15:42Speaker 1: a nine to five, right, or they think, oh, I'm
- 15:43Speaker 1: gonna be my own boss and not realizing no, you're
- 15:46Speaker 1: you still have someone to answer to. You have clients,
- 15:49Speaker 1: you know that you'll be answering to. You don't just
- 15:51Speaker 1: get the common work when you want to go to work,
- 15:53Speaker 1: and you have to be as discipline as a nine
- 15:56Speaker 1: to five when you have your own businesses to y'all something, man,
- 15:59Speaker 1: I love both you got. This is the stuff I
- 16:02Speaker 1: say on the regular basis because what I tell people
- 16:04Speaker 1: is this, and is that that that for the hour
- 16:07Speaker 1: week job that you have. Really it's the example you
- 16:11Speaker 1: should follow when you leave it because you have to
- 16:14Speaker 1: ride the work or time. You have to apply yourself
- 16:17Speaker 1: during that period. You have to have a function to plan.
- 16:19Speaker 1: You know that allows you to be functional that day
- 16:21Speaker 1: because people don't keep non functional people at their jobs.
- 16:24Speaker 1: You know, if you're not doing it the work, they're
- 16:25Speaker 1: gonna let you go. So that's same to people. So
- 16:27Speaker 1: people should understand that. So if it's for the hours,
- 16:30Speaker 1: you're doing eight hours a day, taking an hour break,
- 16:32Speaker 1: do the same thing and you find that that will
- 16:35Speaker 1: effectively lead you into a world of being a successful entrepreneur.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Now you're not gonna work for the hours because of
- 16:41Speaker 1: the entrepreneur. You're gonna work almost eighty hours week or
- 16:44Speaker 1: more because now as you're passion right. That's what people
- 16:49Speaker 1: don't understand is that you know, when you're converting passion
- 16:53Speaker 1: to reality, reality means that you know, you might wake
- 16:56Speaker 1: up on Sunday, you might not go to church that said,
- 16:58Speaker 1: you might have to go do something, you might have
- 17:00Speaker 1: to run around you know. So But because I just
- 17:03Speaker 1: love but I love the part of this conversation I'm
- 17:05Speaker 1: having with you. You guys have great comments sense Thank
- 17:10Speaker 1: you so much, and thank you and what you said
- 17:12Speaker 1: is so true. I can remember there have been multiple
- 17:15Speaker 1: you know, especially when we first got started, we had
- 17:17Speaker 1: to miss certain family birthdays, celebrations you know with cousins
- 17:21Speaker 1: or unties, and certain family trips and family barbecues. Why
- 17:25Speaker 1: because we were out here working our business, working our ideas,
- 17:29Speaker 1: trying to make those things happen. So those were the sacrifices.
- 17:32Speaker 1: And you gotta keep in mind Martel and I started
- 17:34Speaker 1: our business. I was twenty two, Martel was twenty six,
- 17:38Speaker 1: so we were young. So we get even you know,
- 17:40Speaker 1: our friends have had time, they were out having having
- 17:43Speaker 1: the time parties on the weekend. You know, clevering it up.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I'm sure right tired. We been working and grinding, you
- 17:51Speaker 1: know so, but you get to reach the benefits and
- 17:54Speaker 1: the harvest of what you've fown. So we're very still
- 17:58Speaker 1: thankful and we don't regret any of those wh I've seen.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I've seen that, I've seen the TV show, and I've
- 18:03Speaker 1: seen pictures. You guys got it going on. Physically, y'all
- 18:06Speaker 1: look good as a couple, and you carry yourself. I
- 18:08Speaker 1: see you in the tailored suits there. Uh alright, alright,
- 18:13Speaker 1: oh no, no, no, you mess with the wrong brother.
- 18:15Speaker 1: That That's what I do, my man, That's what I do.
- 18:19Speaker 1: You know, because because you know as absolutely, because you
- 18:22Speaker 1: gotta invest in yourself. You got to invest in yourself.
- 18:24Speaker 1: But when I say common sense, and it's so exciting,
- 18:28Speaker 1: and I want to bring you back because I didn't
- 18:29Speaker 1: know anything about the book. If you if you gotta
- 18:31Speaker 1: have guys, have time in your schedule, please come back
- 18:33Speaker 1: and let's break down that book because I'm excited about
- 18:36Speaker 1: promote that book. I don't know how long has been out,
- 18:38Speaker 1: but everything you guys are saying and referencing in that book,
- 18:41Speaker 1: it's the same common sense mentality that I try to
- 18:44Speaker 1: sell to everyday people on money making conversation because when
- 18:47Speaker 1: you said that people too, it's not I mean, it's
- 18:52Speaker 1: not complicated really to to be an entrepreneur, to own
- 18:56Speaker 1: your own business. It's not magic either, you know. I
- 18:59Speaker 1: feel you can a lot accomplished, not common a common
- 19:02Speaker 1: sense approach and UM dedication and commitment, you know, inconsistency.
- 19:07Speaker 1: That consistency, I think I'll set you apart from a lot,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you know, right, I can't tell you how many people
- 19:11Speaker 1: we have helped or UM giving contracts to it, like
- 19:15Speaker 1: when we had our lawn care business, and when you
- 19:17Speaker 1: see those people are unable to to UM succeed and
- 19:21Speaker 1: fulfill the same way you did, it showed it will
- 19:24Speaker 1: show us then like okay, so it's not just about
- 19:26Speaker 1: the contract that's in your hand now, but it's about
- 19:28Speaker 1: what did you do after you've gotten that business, that
- 19:31Speaker 1: piece of business or that contract. How do you maintain
- 19:34Speaker 1: that's right? How do you maintain it after you've gotten it?
- 19:37Speaker 1: And unfortunately, you know, not answering your phone for clients
- 19:41Speaker 1: whenever you know that you need to be answering your
- 19:43Speaker 1: phone for them, you know, not showing up at the
- 19:46Speaker 1: time to tell them you're gonna solve, and not given
- 19:48Speaker 1: the same quality throughout the consistency and the same quality
- 19:51Speaker 1: throughout the duration can cause you to lose that contract.
- 19:54Speaker 1: So we've had contracts. We've had you know, when your
- 19:57Speaker 1: years and then be leave the lunch their business. But
- 20:01Speaker 1: we had a friend who wanted to get in the
- 20:03Speaker 1: line care business. We gave him our contracts. We say
- 20:05Speaker 1: here you got, here's your start, here you go. But
- 20:08Speaker 1: he wasn't able to maintain them because he was handed it.
- 20:14Speaker 1: You know, it's something about when you when you when
- 20:16Speaker 1: you start, you the fear of losing it, like I said,
- 20:19Speaker 1: getting up on Sunday, because you know that's that's your baby.
- 20:23Speaker 1: You know, that's that's your dream. When you hand people dreams,
- 20:26Speaker 1: sometimes they don't know the responsibility that comes with that
- 20:29Speaker 1: dream because they only see the final results. They don't
- 20:32Speaker 1: see your lifestyle. They only see you showing up in
- 20:35Speaker 1: the car and the tailor suits, the hair cut right,
- 20:39Speaker 1: the hair done right, the nails done right, the food
- 20:43Speaker 1: on the table looking right. That's what they see. I
- 20:45Speaker 1: want that, but they don't want to. But they don't
- 20:48Speaker 1: know the consequences of keeping that. And that's what you're
- 20:51Speaker 1: saying you gave it to them or that person, and
- 20:54Speaker 1: then next thing you know, oh man, you know it
- 20:57Speaker 1: was cold outside. Oh man, you know I can't hire
- 21:00Speaker 1: the right people. Are you paying them? Are you paying
- 21:03Speaker 1: them all time? You know? Or if you if you
- 21:06Speaker 1: what's happening here? Because we were able to do it.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And it's really sad because you know, when you you,
- 21:12Speaker 1: you become skeptical and sharing your success because if they
- 21:16Speaker 1: don't do it right, it can affect your brand, It
- 21:18Speaker 1: can refect your your your reputation. If you turn it
- 21:22Speaker 1: over somebody who can Oh my goodness. That's why I
- 21:25Speaker 1: look at people go I relatives, when they want to
- 21:28Speaker 1: borrow money from me, I tell they have to sign
- 21:31Speaker 1: an agreement. I always tell them, uh, if you, if
- 21:35Speaker 1: you go to the bank, what they're gonna ask for?
- 21:37Speaker 1: So why should I not have the same protection or
- 21:41Speaker 1: statement that you owe me that's amount of money or
- 21:43Speaker 1: you my brother or you my cousin. Well, I don't care. Well,
- 21:46Speaker 1: I'm just like this is all I want. And so
- 21:48Speaker 1: you have to set standards even in relationships family, wives, girlfriend, cousin,
- 21:57Speaker 1: older brother, parents. You gotta have our wounds. And that's
- 22:03Speaker 1: what I keep hearing coming out of your your this
- 22:06Speaker 1: power couple the Holts holding Hope common sense. That's what y'all.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Y'all need to write book called common sense. You guys
- 22:13Speaker 1: are incredible. That's your next book. That's your next book,
- 22:16Speaker 1: common sense, common sense. I love it being. Now, before
- 22:23Speaker 1: I get off the phone, we talked about the landscaping.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Now what is hope custom homes? What is that? Well,
- 22:30Speaker 1: you know earlier how we talked a little bit about
- 22:32Speaker 1: one thing can lead to the next. One step at said,
- 22:35Speaker 1: So we went from it, you know, being teacher, to
- 22:37Speaker 1: lune care to cleaning um. And then someone told us
- 22:40Speaker 1: about this industry called property preservation. So we were doing
- 22:43Speaker 1: lunecare and cleaning on hood homes for closet properties, and
- 22:47Speaker 1: then you know, they started asking us to do small repairs.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So we started doing small repairs. Then I still remember
- 22:53Speaker 1: when we got our first work order. Martell. I don't
- 22:55Speaker 1: know if you remember this, to demolish your property. I'm
- 22:57Speaker 1: sure you remember that. We're like, oh, we're never the
- 23:00Speaker 1: mom was the property, but okay, we're gonna do it.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Definitely that happen and then we gotta work ordered. I
- 23:06Speaker 1: think it was a hundred and twenty seven thousand dollars
- 23:08Speaker 1: is what I think it was. If I'm not taken
- 23:10Speaker 1: to demolished and rebuild about a thousand, twelve hundred square
- 23:14Speaker 1: foot home in m Lap, Alabama. And we had never
- 23:17Speaker 1: built the home before, but we pulled together the right
- 23:20Speaker 1: resources and the right people to do it, and we
- 23:22Speaker 1: accompanied that has and then and this was several years
- 23:26Speaker 1: ago to several years ago, and so from there like
- 23:29Speaker 1: maybe around this was maybe Martel around and then from
- 23:32Speaker 1: there we decided, oh well, we're gonna get our home,
- 23:35Speaker 1: build this license and custom build homes because because it's like, okay,
- 23:38Speaker 1: we build in these houses for the banks, right, we
- 23:41Speaker 1: can do it ourselves, right, you know, so we just
- 23:45Speaker 1: to That's that's awesome, because that's what I'll talk about
- 23:50Speaker 1: is fear because there is always an option to be successful.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Like you said, go out and find the people who
- 23:56Speaker 1: that's what they do. You know, you find a personal
- 23:58Speaker 1: that you're not you're not supposed the poor that's the concrete.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Go find somebody that's what they do. Poor the concrete. Delegate.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Delegate with degating too much, don't get him start delegate everything.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Hey brother, you gotta sleep. But I always tell people.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You know, I remember when I started, uh early years
- 24:19Speaker 1: of manager Steve Hard. You know, I booked the car,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I booked the flights, I picked us up, I bought
- 24:27Speaker 1: all the food and went out and never realized. You know,
- 24:29Speaker 1: you gotta start getting extra people around you security, get
- 24:34Speaker 1: called somebody to book your flights and book your car services.
- 24:38Speaker 1: And that's I started delegating to mar So you need
- 24:41Speaker 1: to tell her to be quiet. I know that's your
- 24:43Speaker 1: wife and everything. She's beautiful, but she can't tell she
- 24:46Speaker 1: can't interrupt you when you're delegating. Delegating is a beautiful thing,
- 24:48Speaker 1: my brother. That's that's right. And make you feel so
- 24:51Speaker 1: much better, Make you feel better, look better, look younger.
- 24:54Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. You know, wake up with
- 24:55Speaker 1: your back hurt, and delegate that pick up over there,
- 24:58Speaker 1: delegate that that go do something for me. Just just delegate.
- 25:02Speaker 1: This the way to go. So, so whatever you say,
- 25:05Speaker 1: miss Hope, I can't join you on that. He can
- 25:08Speaker 1: delegate all he wants. Now, I'm sure you're a delegator too,
- 25:10Speaker 1: aren't you, because I can hear you talk. You almost
- 25:13Speaker 1: wanted to tell me something to do. A couple of
- 25:15Speaker 1: times during this interview, because I know you tell people
- 25:17Speaker 1: to do on the regular basis, I delegate, but not
- 25:21Speaker 1: as much as Martel. You know, I do believe in
- 25:23Speaker 1: balance um and I think that a lot of times.
- 25:26Speaker 1: You know, whenever we are um with someone is great.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Whenever you can. You know you're not gonna fool me
- 25:35Speaker 1: with this church voice. Uh, I don't know how you
- 25:39Speaker 1: handle it, brother, You know you was four years older.
- 25:42Speaker 1: You You're just a patient brother with that church force.
- 25:44Speaker 1: You know, you just start getting in an argument, you're
- 25:46Speaker 1: gonna pull out that Praise the Lord voice on you. You
- 25:48Speaker 1: You don't know what to do. You know, you man
- 25:52Speaker 1: do if you're talking about you through out that little
- 25:54Speaker 1: sweet Alabama voice on you. But I know she's a
- 25:57Speaker 1: cutthroat in negotiation all that because you can that. I'm
- 26:03Speaker 1: gonna just tell you this now. You was probably when
- 26:05Speaker 1: that when that opportunity to demolish at home and rebuild it,
- 26:08Speaker 1: you were thinking about it. Wouldn't you more tell she
- 26:10Speaker 1: had already started planning it. Why can't we do it
- 26:13Speaker 1: with baby baby? Listen? White already that plans on the
- 26:18Speaker 1: kitchen table. Everything you're going Because we were as men,
- 26:21Speaker 1: we think things out. We were thinking that women, why
- 26:25Speaker 1: can't we and then then it forced us to be
- 26:27Speaker 1: in the position, yes we can. So so it's a
- 26:29Speaker 1: good power couple of relationship. So whenever one is thinking
- 26:33Speaker 1: that they can't do it, the others pushing them out
- 26:36Speaker 1: the door. If everyone is saying the car can't start,
- 26:38Speaker 1: the others look, got the hood up? Why can't you start?
- 26:41Speaker 1: Let's make a start. And that's why I love about
- 26:43Speaker 1: this phone call because your next book. I'm just telling
- 26:46Speaker 1: your whole family common sense. And if you, if you
- 26:49Speaker 1: have time, I want to bring you back on my show.
- 26:53Speaker 1: And if you ever come up to Atlanta, love for
- 26:55Speaker 1: you to come in studio and sit down and let's
- 26:57Speaker 1: talk about the common sense what whenever you want, We're
- 27:04Speaker 1: good because we're gonna get you back on the show.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Because next week I'll be a napty because I'll be
- 27:09Speaker 1: marketing my show for fall distribution, distribution of money making
- 27:14Speaker 1: conversation on network television. So, my friends, I know that
- 27:19Speaker 1: we're in a position to win nowhere, the position to
- 27:21Speaker 1: be special. But more importantly, thank you for for spending
- 27:25Speaker 1: the time with me the last thirty minutes on this
- 27:27Speaker 1: show and shared nuggets, shared nuggets of information, common sence
- 27:31Speaker 1: information all the way from Huntsville, Alabama. Thank you, teammates,
- 27:40Speaker 1: I appreciate you. We talked soon
