Transcript
- 0:05Hello, hello teachers and welcome back to another episode
- 0:08of Aligned and Thriving. First of all, congratulations,
- 0:13you have made it to the end of Term 3.
- 0:17Whether you are crawling or cruising towards your break,
- 0:21this is your gentle nudge or pause, or just a chance for you
- 0:26to take some time to reflect and reset.
- 0:30Ready to go again Now? Term 4 is just around the corner
- 0:35and we know that it is one of the busiest, most intense and
- 0:39probably the most emotional terms of the year.
- 0:43Now that is the time to get clear, grounded, and intentional
- 0:49about how we're going to finish this year and start preparing
- 0:53for the next. So this is not just about your
- 0:56To Do List and your marking piles, although we'll probably
- 0:59have to talk about that too. But this is about you.
- 1:02This is about your energy, your joy, and your priorities and
- 1:06your life beyond the classroom. So before we dive in, I really
- 1:11want you to remember this. You are coming up to the
- 1:15celebration term. This is the time to truly enjoy
- 1:20all the hard work that you have poured into this year.
- 1:24It's also the season of transition.
- 1:26It's not the getting rid of students, but the welcoming the
- 1:30new ones soon. So let's celebrate those that
- 1:34we've had and guide them across the finish line and get excited
- 1:38about the fresh challenges that you have ahead.
- 1:41So let's take a chance to just reset.
- 1:45What I want you to do today is have a bit of time for yourself
- 1:49to reflect. So I've got some journal prompts
- 1:52for you to go through. I want you to use these prompts
- 1:55to help you release, realign and just prepare yourself before you
- 2:00head into term 4. So think about these things.
- 2:03I've got 10 things for you to stop, write down and just
- 2:08reflect. So the first one, what went well
- 2:12this term and what that do I want to repeat next term.
- 2:18So what went well this term and that I want to repeat again next
- 2:22time. Is there anything that you could
- 2:24stop and think about and go, yeah, I really liked the way I
- 2:27ran that spelling programme, so I'm going to do that again to
- 2:29finish off the year. So something like that.
- 2:32Number two, what drained my energy and how can I change or
- 2:37manage that better? I really want you to think about
- 2:42that one and just take some time to process.
- 2:45Name up what has actually been draining your energy and how you
- 2:50were going to manage that in term 4.
- 2:51Because remember Term 4, it's a downhill run.
- 2:55It goes so quick so you don't have time for stuff to be
- 2:59draining your energy. So name it up and figure out how
- 3:02you're going to manage it #3. How did I show up for myself
- 3:06this term emotionally, physically, spiritually?
- 3:12Have a think about that #4 What am I proud of achieving?
- 3:18Achieving inside and outside the classroom.
- 3:21Have a bit of a celebration. What did you achieve this term?
- 3:25Let's celebrate you #5. What support do I need heading
- 3:30into term for? Remember, I really want you to
- 3:34ask for help and to take on advice and anything that other
- 3:38people can offer you. So what support do you need?
- 3:40Name it up #6 what do I need to say no to so I can say yes to
- 3:47what really matters? And remember, if you really need
- 3:51to work on learning to say no, go back to my episode talking
- 3:54about boundaries and that no is a full sentence.
- 3:58Just remind yourself of that process #7 what boundaries do I
- 4:03need to hold firmer in term 4? Again, reminder to go back to
- 4:09the episode on boundaries if you've forgotten what to do in
- 4:11that space, but you need to be putting some boundaries in
- 4:14place. So what do you need to hold
- 4:16yourself accountable for to keep those boundaries in place #8
- 4:22what am I still holding on to that I need to release before
- 4:25starting a new term? Is there anything that you need
- 4:28to let go of to help you reset and restart?
- 4:32Ready for that downhill straight #9 what will help me feel more
- 4:37grounded, calm, and in control next term?
- 4:42Think about all the episodes that I've been talking to you
- 4:44about, that yourself, care routines, about all of the
- 4:48things. What do you need to do before
- 4:50you start next term and feel a bit more in control?
- 4:55Remember, you're coming up to a holiday break.
- 4:57If you've forgotten what you need to do in that space, go
- 4:59back to my episode about holidays.
- 5:01Think about how you can plan that and actually plan some time
- 5:05for you. And #10 what small self care
- 5:10rituals can I build into my week now to help me get through term
- 5:15four OK? And I need to do that too.
- 5:18Like I have to plan for those things.
- 5:20I have to name it up and stick to my routine because I need to
- 5:25know, Yep, that's what I'm doing today.
- 5:27And I'm putting myself first in this situation because myself,
- 5:31care matters. Because if I'm not looking after
- 5:33me, how can I use my overflow to then look after other people?
- 5:37And you're really running on empty.
- 5:39You can't be doing that in term 4.
- 5:41You really need to use this holiday break and this resetting
- 5:44time to prepare yourself and top yourself, Care cup up, ready to
- 5:50flow on over into Term 4, which again, as I've said to you, it's
- 5:53just going to go. You'll click your fingers and
- 5:54it's just gone. It's so quick.
- 5:58So your future planning for your final term.
- 6:01Now let's take some time to future proof your end of year
- 6:06chaos. And I'm just going to call it
- 6:08that because honestly, to me, every year's chaos, it's gone so
- 6:11quick and you just get to term 4 and then you're done and it's
- 6:13Christmas. You're like what just happened
- 6:16that just went so fast. Those 10 weeks just gone.
- 6:18So let's future proof your end of year chaos.
- 6:22What have you got to get done before the end of the year?
- 6:25Is it reporting? Is there data?
- 6:26Are there parent meetings? Are there like evidence of
- 6:29learnings? All of those types of things?
- 6:31What do you need to do? Plan it out?
- 6:33What can wait? Is there anything that you can
- 6:36sort of put off into the back burner and take some time?
- 6:39Put things in priority, cool, priority, cool.
- 6:42That's not even a word. Oh my gosh.
- 6:43I think I was trying to say periodical and priorities at the
- 6:46same time. Prioritise what you need to get
- 6:50done, OK and do it that way. What can you like simplify or
- 6:54streamline or delegate? Gosh, love that word.
- 6:58What can you delegate? Is there anything that you could
- 7:01delegate? When I think about this, I
- 7:03actually think about at home, like what could I delegate to my
- 7:06husband to do for me to help me future proof term for like how
- 7:11many events could I get him to take the kids to so that I can
- 7:15just have a little window of time to do some self care.
- 7:17So I, as I said, like we have a shared calendar, We have an app,
- 7:23We actually use Timetree the app, if you've heard of it, so
- 7:26that I can actually share that on my phone to his phone, also
- 7:29share it with my mom, the grandparents.
- 7:31So if we need anything for the kids, we can sort of coordinate
- 7:34that. And it's all colour coded and
- 7:35pretty and sends you reminders. It's great.
- 7:37And it also sends you little reminders like, oh, you've got 3
- 7:39events on today. Remember to take care of
- 7:41yourself. And I love that because that's
- 7:43just all me. So we have that.
- 7:46So I make sure I check the calendar, put everything in
- 7:48there in the holidays so that I'm ready for Term 4 and plan it
- 7:52out and allocate who needs to do what and just name it up so you
- 7:56can think about your family or your personal commitments and
- 7:59plan them in. You might need to plan some
- 8:01massages, like put them in there.
- 8:03Get yourself care stuff done ladies, all men who get their
- 8:08hair done like a book your pre Christmas hair appointment now
- 8:12if you haven't done so already to make sure you've got that
- 8:15locked in 'cause you need to get on top of that before Christmas.
- 8:19So that is one of your term 4 priorities.
- 8:22Have you got all of your events in your excursions, your
- 8:24deadlines, like you've got a list as long as your as long as
- 8:27your arm as your end of your activities come up.
- 8:30You need to make sure that they're in your diary and
- 8:32they're in your planner and you know what is coming.
- 8:34Because if you miss something and you haven't planned for it,
- 8:37good luck to you my friend. So make sure you've got all of
- 8:40that sorted. Can you begin cleaning or
- 8:43organising your classroom and your staff sort of spaces now so
- 8:47you don't have that mad rush later?
- 8:50If you're in a school where you know you're not moving
- 8:52classrooms and you get to term four, well, bless you.
- 8:55So lucky doesn't happen to everyone.
- 8:57But if you know you're not moving, start your cleaning now.
- 9:00Just little bits at a time because then you're not getting
- 9:03to the end of the year and having this mad rush to sort
- 9:06everything out or coordinate with other staff.
- 9:09What could be doing now to get yourself ready for the end of
- 9:11term so you're not causing havoc on our on our cleaners as well
- 9:16because you start filling up their bins.
- 9:18They've got to carry that Like that's, that's not OK.
- 9:21Please don't be doing all of that at the last second.
- 9:25Do as much as you can in little bits at a time that you know to
- 9:27start taking stuff home for you to sort out if you know you're
- 9:30not going to need that next year.
- 9:32Like those types of things I'm talking about.
- 9:35What are your personal goals between now and the end of the
- 9:37year? Do you need to set them up like
- 9:39for your fitness, your family, your finances, anything like
- 9:41that? For me, Christmas, I've got to
- 9:44plan how much money we sort of need and if we're going away in
- 9:47the holidays, start organising that now.
- 9:49Like there's a whole bunch of things that I could be doing now
- 9:51to make my life easier in the future, so I'm going to set
- 9:54myself up to do that. So you could be doing that too.
- 9:56And most importantly, like how are you going to reset yourself
- 10:00during this break? You've got a window of time to
- 10:03set yourself up to get ready for term 4.
- 10:06And as I said, it goes so quick. You need to be organised and
- 10:11ready. So let's do as much as we can
- 10:13now to prepare ourselves for the future.
- 10:15Like your future self is going to thank you for this because
- 10:18you'll be organised and you'll be able to take a breath.
- 10:21You're not going to be. I just the analogy that always
- 10:24comes to my head is like the headless choke running around.
- 10:26I know that's gross, but that's you don't want to be running
- 10:29around like a headless truck. I mean, come on #1 it is gross
- 10:32and #2 you just don't want that. And I don't want that for you.
- 10:36So let's just get organised. Take a leaf out of my book
- 10:39because that's what I love to do, Be organised humans and
- 10:42let's just get this done. Celebrate and shift are my 2
- 10:47sort of last points. So turn 4, it's going to be
- 10:50chaotic, but it is where the magic really happens.
- 10:53You can see the finish line, the celebrations going to happen and
- 10:58you've got those joyful goodbyes and that spark of anticipation
- 11:02for what's going to happen next. And you can start planning for
- 11:05that next year, that next class, all of those wonderful things.
- 11:10It's a time for you to take ownership of your energy and
- 11:13your mindset even now. Like go back and revisit my
- 11:17episode of manifesting a better term if you want to bring some
- 11:20intention and some mindset into your term for planning to set
- 11:24yourself up for the most amazing end of year yet.
- 11:28Because you're not just managing your workload like you're
- 11:31leading your life. You are the anchor for your
- 11:33classroom, the heart of your students experiences and you
- 11:37deserve to feel grounded, present, and most of all proud
- 11:42because you've successfully completed another year of
- 11:45teaching. Hats off to you.
- 11:46You're going to, you're going to be able to smash this out of the
- 11:49park this year. So you go out and do that.
- 11:52So my final reminders to you, start your planning early.
- 11:56Schedule your own needs first. Because remember, that is not
- 12:00selfish, that is just self care #3 celebrate what has worked #4
- 12:07prep but with a little bit of flexibility because you know
- 12:10life happens and the last one is reset with purpose.
- 12:13Because you matter. Honestly, you do.
- 12:16And you've got to put yourself first.
- 12:18But if you do all of these things, I promise that you are
- 12:21going to have the most amazing term forever.
- 12:25With all my little Nuggets of wisdom, whether you take them on
- 12:28or not, I don't know. I'm just trying to help you.
- 12:31Like talking teacher with a little bit of experience here
- 12:35and lots of work around mindset that this is what you're going
- 12:37to have to do to set yourself up future proof you OK, so I know
- 12:43this was just a little short episode, but this is all you
- 12:45need because you're going to go off and do some work.
- 12:47Now you're going to go and do your journal prompts and reflect
- 12:50on those questions and really think about, OK, what are my
- 12:54priorities? What do I need to go and set up
- 12:56now ready for Term 4? Not just classroom wise, but you
- 13:01was to make sure you can absolutely smash Term 4 out of
- 13:05the park. And I know you will because you
- 13:07are amazing. So don't ever forget that you
- 13:09are amazing. You are doing a fantastic job
- 13:14and you are going to have the biggest celebration at the end
- 13:17of Term 4 to celebrate another amazing year with your classes,
- 13:22your kids and your own self, your mindset because you have
- 13:27taken the time to work on you. Excuse me, it's chalked up a
- 13:30little bit. So until next time, stay aligned
- 13:35and keep thriving. Go and do your journal prompts.
- 13:38Now this is your reminder again. And if you want to touch base
- 13:41with me or talk about anything, please feel free to message me
