- 0:00This shit ain't nothing to me, man. This is Boxing
- 0:03Before Dark. All right. Timer is running. Everything
- 0:27else. Is set up. You're recording both audios?
- 0:32Yeah, I'm capturing both this time. All right.
- 0:38Boxing before dark. We've been gone for a minute,
- 0:40but we're back, baby. Shanada, how goes it? It
- 0:45goes. I'm busy getting ready to move, so sorry,
- 0:49everybody. It's my fault we weren't here last
- 0:50week. Nah, it's all good. That's real life stuff
- 0:54more important than some goddamn podcast. Moving
- 0:58around the world is interesting and fun, but
- 1:00the actual moving is the worst. I just moved
- 1:05across the city and that sucked ass. Yeah, I
- 1:09hate moving. And I complained last podcast, I
- 1:14think, but the bureaucracy here is fucking crazy.
- 1:19What do they have you doing? What hoops are they
- 1:22trying to get you to jump through? Well, so I
- 1:25have to go down to the ward office and tell them
- 1:28I'm leaving about two weeks before I leave. And
- 1:32then I have to go back a few days before I leave
- 1:35so they can figure out if I owe any taxes or
- 1:38health insurance or anything. So that sucks because
- 1:43I definitely do because I didn't file taxes here
- 1:46because it's hard. And then just the organizing
- 1:52and calling, shutting off all my like utilities
- 1:55and shit. And they're all like, make sure you
- 1:58pay your last bill. But I have to empty my bank
- 2:01account before I leave. And the last bills will
- 2:03probably come like two weeks later. So how the
- 2:06hell am I supposed to pay them? But I also don't
- 2:10want my shit turned off a month before I leave.
- 2:13So. Man. Getting stuff cut over here sounds like
- 2:19it was a lot easier. And it was a pain in the
- 2:21ass. It's super... Well, in Canada, I found it
- 2:25super easy. You just phone them and tell them
- 2:27what day you want it shut off. Pretty much, yeah.
- 2:29Yeah. But, like, in Canada, that next bill that
- 2:34comes later is easy to pay. But I can't leave
- 2:37any money in a bank account here. So, basically,
- 2:41I'm going to guess what my bills are and leave
- 2:43money with a friend. I don't know what else to
- 2:46do. I'll overpay a little bit and call it a birthday
- 2:52present. Well, we have quite a bit of news to
- 3:01get to. So, before we start, the Boxing Survey
- 3:05continues. dxng .co slash survey. I want to hear
- 3:09what you think about the titles. and the Muhammad
- 3:12Ali Boxing Revival Act. I haven't heard of this
- 3:15coming up to the floor of the Senate for a vote
- 3:17yet, so there's still time. Go to luxmedia .net
- 3:21slash bsides and check the contact information
- 3:24for your senators. Let them know to vote against
- 3:27this. All right. Tyson Fury versus Marius Wok
- 3:33on July 24th in Thailand. This is an interesting...
- 3:39Is Marius Walk. I remember him from... He was
- 3:45signed to fight Deontay Wilder way back in the
- 3:50day, and he popped for straight -up steroids.
- 3:57That's all I remember. Not great. Okay, I pulled
- 4:01him up on BoxRec. He has a shit record. It's
- 4:05not the best. He's 39 and 13. Which is whatever.
- 4:09But it's definitely a losing record lately. He
- 4:15won one fight in 2025 and two fights in 2023.
- 4:22And then to find more wins, you have to go back
- 4:25to 2020. That's not good. He lost to Huey Fury
- 4:35in 2020. Pathetic. This is such a waste of time.
- 4:43Tyson Fury, Mariusz Wach. Clearly he's just marking
- 4:47time until he gets to AJ later this year. It's
- 4:53the day before the AJ fight anyway. AJ Pranga.
- 4:58Just getting the timing together. Yeah, I think
- 5:01so. He still could have picked somebody slightly
- 5:04better. I know he doesn't want to, like, lose,
- 5:09but this does not make me think Tyson Fury is
- 5:14very confident. I guess the Thailand location
- 5:20makes sense. Because he was training in Thailand
- 5:24for his last fight, right? Yes. Fury? That's
- 5:27correct. But just a weird fight overall. I don't
- 5:33think anybody's going to be very excited about
- 5:35this one. No. It's, like, Makhmudov, you can
- 5:41kind of see it. But Mariusz Wach, like, that's...
- 5:45I guess it's the same... It's a similar level
- 5:49to Christian Prega, I think. I guess. Like...
- 5:59I don't know. This guy's also 46. Like, you're
- 6:04just beating up old guys. Holy shit, he is 46.
- 6:14Alright. This one doesn't make any sense to me.
- 6:20No, there are better opponents. Even if you wanted
- 6:24to keep it in the really beatable range. There's
- 6:28still a lot better you could have done. Like,
- 6:30you're selecting somebody that your much worse
- 6:33younger brother beat six years ago. I'm just
- 6:42saying. No, it's a very valid point. Also, I
- 6:48think, valid. Usyk vacates the titles. The speculation
- 6:54is he's fighting either Deontay Wilder or Jon
- 6:57Jones. So Usyk has definitely realized that he's
- 7:03past it. Yeah. So smart business move. And it
- 7:07is nice that he's not holding up any belts. Like,
- 7:10kudos for that. Yeah. Kabayel got elevated right
- 7:17away. Murat Gassiev, if you remember him, got
- 7:26elevated. I mean, it lets the division move on,
- 7:31so I'm all for that. Yeah. But, yeah, Usyk deserves
- 7:40his big money retirement tour, so... I have no
- 7:46problems with whatever he wants to do. Him fighting
- 7:50Jon Jones would be kind of funny. Leg one of
- 7:54the retirement tour didn't go very well. No.
- 8:01I think that's where the realization came from.
- 8:05Yeah. I don't watch UFC at all, but does Jon
- 8:09Jones punch really hard? Because he's more of
- 8:13a kicky submission guy, right? I would say...
- 8:16A striker in general, but not boxing heavy, I
- 8:21don't think. Yeah, okay. I don't know. I don't
- 8:25want to see Usyk get sparked by either of these
- 8:28guys. That would be fucking embarrassing. Last
- 8:33fight of your career. Deontay Wilder decides
- 8:36to have his one last hurrah. That would be...
- 8:41The worst thing to ever happen to Usyk's legacy.
- 8:44That would be fucking terrible. How badly would
- 8:51that stain his legacy? It would be bad. You think?
- 8:57A lot of people already don't like him. Like,
- 9:01the haters would feed on that forever. But...
- 9:10I would... I would celebrate that Deontay Wilder
- 9:15is now the lineal heavyweight champion. Jesus,
- 9:19I forgot about lineal. That would be hilarious.
- 9:21Yep. And then lineal will go to some fucking
- 9:26nobody from Kansas or something. I think that'll
- 9:34be the signal for Wilder to ride off as well.
- 9:39If he were to get a win like that. Fair enough.
- 9:42Yeah, that's true. But, like, what happens if
- 9:47the lineal guy gets beat by some, like, regional
- 9:50bum and then the lineal just stays regional for
- 9:54decades? That would be hilarious. That would
- 9:59give... I think that would be a good... Don't
- 10:08want to reuse the word stain, but it would diminish...
- 10:12prestige that the lineal title has in people's
- 10:16minds. Yeah. Because there's been some pretty
- 10:22mid -boxers that were lineal champions. Right.
- 10:27Exactly right. But, I don't know. Usyk, go get
- 10:32your money, but try not to embarrass yourself,
- 10:35I guess. Tank has been named champion in recess.
- 10:43Just strip this fucking clown. And it will be
- 10:47Lucas Body facing Floyd Schofield for the title.
- 10:55Which one's Lucas Body? He got a really good
- 10:59knockout last year, right? Over Ashton Sylvie.
- 11:02Yeah, okay. He was getting soundly outboxed and
- 11:06then he got that one hitter. That was awesome,
- 11:10though. Yeah, it was a good win. It was a good
- 11:13knockout. I think that was one of my comeback
- 11:18of the year. Yeah, I think so, too. I don't know.
- 11:26I just don't want to see Tank's name anymore.
- 11:29Like... I'm pretty done with him. Lloyd Schofield's
- 11:37not bad, though. No, he's okay. It does feel
- 11:42a little quick for him to be in a title fight.
- 11:45He's been really inactive lately. Yeah, I guess
- 11:51it's been a year since he fought. Then he had
- 11:55that one incident where he got allegedly poisoned.
- 12:03Oh, right. The hospital picture? Yeah. That's
- 12:09fucking ridiculous. It would be pretty funny
- 12:14if Luca's body sparked Floyd Schofield. I would
- 12:17enjoy that. Moving on, just to not give the fugitive
- 12:25any more time than he really deserves right now.
- 12:28Yeah. Canelo Mbili has been postponed. The likely
- 12:32new date is October. I hadn't heard about this.
- 12:36Did they give a reason? No. Not that I recall.
- 12:41That's weird. Yeah. Because it was supposed to
- 12:44be September, right? Yeah, it was the September
- 12:4616th weekend thing. Canelo is officially just
- 12:51giving up on his Mexico dates, eh? It seems like
- 12:55it. Do you think it's to not compete with a...
- 13:00I'm drawing blanks on names. Benavidez fight?
- 13:04I don't know if there is a Benavidez fight on
- 13:07that date. Yeah, I don't know either. The only
- 13:11other event that was scheduled around that time
- 13:15was Ryan Garcia versus Conor Benn, which I guess
- 13:20it's something worth mentioning that Oscar's
- 13:23not interested in making that fight. I mean,
- 13:27I don't think it's a good fight, but it would
- 13:30be a lot of money. It's just mandatory, if nothing
- 13:33else. Yeah. But WBC and rules, what the fuck
- 13:44does that mean? Absolutely nothing. If you have
- 13:48a name... Do whatever. Yeah, I guess they don't
- 13:55have a date. It just says advanced discussions
- 13:58for Benavidez against Mikaelian. It wouldn't
- 14:04surprise me if that ends up in September, though.
- 14:07Ooh, Benavidez claims the dates. I wonder if
- 14:13that's what's happening. That's my conspiracy
- 14:15theory. You might be right. That Canelo's moving
- 14:21out of the way. Which, I mean, it's kind of time,
- 14:26but I'm a little surprised he's doing it himself.
- 14:31If you know what I mean. Right. Shakur wants
- 14:39to fight GAR next. His words, he will bring the
- 14:44best out of me. I think he's right. Yeah, you
- 14:50think it's a good style matchup? Yes, I do. Gar
- 14:57doesn't have that much power, does he? Let's
- 15:03have a look. Like, I don't think of him as a
- 15:07potent... Shit. Like, really hard hitter. He's
- 15:1417 of 19. For KOs. Oh, that's higher than I thought
- 15:24it was. Mostly TKOs, though, right? Yeah. So,
- 15:30accumulation stuff. Because he... Go on. He is
- 15:35a bit of a numbers guy. Yes. Right, like I don't
- 15:40think he hits individual punches that hard. He's
- 15:43an accumulation. Knockout? Would be similar to
- 15:48the... What was it? William Zapata? Yes. Shrimpy.
- 15:59So, yeah, I can see it making Shakur less defensive.
- 16:06If there's not another serious power. Yeah, and
- 16:09he can display his skills in a more active way
- 16:14without being worried. Because Shakur really
- 16:18does seem worried when he's against power. Like,
- 16:22he stays really out of range and negative. Yeah,
- 16:28the De Los Santos fight is the best recollection
- 16:32of that. That was boring as fuck. It was terrible.
- 16:39I'm not opposed to this fight. I don't think
- 16:41Gar has much of a chance. Unfortunately, I don't
- 16:44think so either. I like him, but Shakur's just
- 16:49too hard to hit, I think. Yeah, I think you're
- 16:52right. It's hard to accumulate. damage when you're
- 16:56missing most of the time. Speaking of missing
- 17:04most of the time... That's rude. Sorry, Vito.
- 17:10Vito Melnicki signs with Matchroom. So, that's
- 17:14cool. Who was he with before? Or was he just
- 17:19kind of on his own? Self -promo. Yeah. That's
- 17:24probably a good move, then. yeah plus he's he
- 17:27does have a pretty sizable stable of uh like
- 17:31tri -state area guys like in the new york new
- 17:34jersey region yeah i've noticed they're collecting
- 17:38those guys yeah yeah so that he'll probably bring
- 17:43some of those over to match room with him so
- 17:46more more young young guys getting a shot it's
- 17:50always a good thing Matchroom's got the platform
- 17:53and the big promotion power. I think it's a good
- 17:58idea. Is it a good idea for Marlon Tapalas to
- 18:03move up to 126? I don't think he's going to be
- 18:08able to hang at 126, to be honest. I don't think
- 18:11so either. I like Tapalas, but I guess he's probably
- 18:17having trouble making 122. He is getting older.
- 18:23Yeah, so it's probably more of a I need to do
- 18:27this than a I want to do this, but this might
- 18:31be the beginning of the end for Topalas. Just
- 18:35thinking of the champs at 126, they're gonna
- 18:38fucking smoke him. He's tiny, and he's 34. Like,
- 18:45it's not a good combination. And I mean, he got
- 18:54beat by Oguni last fight. That's not somebody
- 18:59who should be beating you. Maybe it's a weight
- 19:06problem. Like he was really struggling to make
- 19:09the weight. That's what I was thinking. But man,
- 19:14I don't know. I don't think this is going to
- 19:19go well. You know what else is not going well?
- 19:25Mayweather Pacquiao 2. Postponed indefinitely.
- 19:31Indefinitely? As far as we know. I had not heard
- 19:36about this either. I've been out of the loop.
- 19:37I'm just too busy. Did they give a reason? The
- 19:42promotional entity was having an issue. From
- 19:50what I remember. So one of the lawsuits is causing
- 19:55issues, probably? Yes. Mayweather has fumbled
- 20:03his life so badly. Fucking nearly $2 billion
- 20:09athlete. Jesus Christ. And he's somehow hard
- 20:14up for cash. Like... Cannot imagine. Yeah, that's
- 20:26really all I got on that one. Not much more to
- 20:28say about it at the moment. Yeah, I mean, nobody's
- 20:31excited for that fight and they're probably getting
- 20:34that feeling. I think they thought it would get
- 20:37more buzz and people would be more interested.
- 20:44But I really don't see any point to this rematch.
- 20:48Maybe if it was 10 years ago. Isn't that when
- 20:52the first one happened? Exactly. Like, if the
- 20:55rematch happened somewhat near to the first one,
- 20:59then we'd be having a different conversation.
- 21:03Yeah, I don't see the point in this fight. I
- 21:08know the point is for Mayweather to make some
- 21:10money so he can pay off some debts, but I don't
- 21:12like the actual point in the boxing sphere of
- 21:16this. I heard the Mayweather Mike Tyson one was
- 21:24rescheduled. Yes. That makes me sad. That they're
- 21:30still doing that? Yeah, just let Mike... Leave
- 21:34him alone. Yeah, just leave him alone. Let him
- 21:40have his cannabis farm. His podcasting. Let him
- 21:45play with his pigeons. Yeah, leave the dude alone.
- 21:48Just let him... Enjoy his retirement. Bivol is
- 21:59going to have another surgery, this time on his
- 22:03elbow. And the WBO has called their mandatory
- 22:08Callum Smith. And I know Bivol's getting a little
- 22:15old, but these injuries are really starting to
- 22:17add up. Yeah, they're in really sensitive areas,
- 22:23like your back, fucking elbows, shit that you
- 22:27need to fight. Yeah, this isn't good. Like, he
- 22:33needs to start considering being finished. It
- 22:41would be pretty funny if Callum Smith beat him,
- 22:43though. I would enjoy that. I really like the
- 22:49Smith brothers, so I would be so happy. I think
- 22:55the only person that might be happier would be
- 22:57Robbie. Yeah, probably. But yeah, Callum Smith
- 23:03beating Dimitri Bivol would be excellent. That'd
- 23:07be pretty funny. That's a hell of a get back
- 23:13after a surgery. Like the last one. What was
- 23:18the dude's name? Eifert, maybe? Michael Eifert.
- 23:22That's right. That one makes sense. You've been
- 23:26out for a while, had a back surgery, and now
- 23:29you're having another. Is this a minor one? A
- 23:32minor surgery? And your get back is Callum Smith?
- 23:36That's tough. Callum Smith's not an easy touch
- 23:39for anyone. I know he gets a lot of hate, but
- 23:43he's not bad. He's quite good. Yeah, I don't
- 23:50know. Vivo might duck this one. I wouldn't be
- 23:53surprised. Drops another title. It would be a
- 24:02gutsy move coming off of surgery to fight Callum
- 24:05Smith. And last thing that I... Oh, that I do
- 24:15have listed, actually. Last thing listed. Josh
- 24:18Kelly. will be on the AJ Undercard against Kevin
- 24:22Ajiarko. This might be a fun fight, actually.
- 24:29Ajiarko's fun. Yeah. I don't particularly like
- 24:34or dislike Josh Kelly, but this one might be
- 24:37fun. I think it's going to be a chance for Josh
- 24:42Kelly to show up. Ajiarko, he's good, but he's
- 24:47not... Quite at the title contention level might
- 24:51be a little bit below it. Yeah, I would also
- 24:57lean towards Josh Kelly, but I think it'll be
- 25:00competitive. Like, I don't think this is going
- 25:03to be a walk. That's also England versus Ireland,
- 25:12isn't it? Yes, I think those are always fun.
- 25:16Northern Ireland. so then it's just really UK
- 25:20versus UK yeah still less fun still crown people
- 25:27yeah he's from Belfast and last thing that I
- 25:40wanted to mention Tony Yoka got injured so his
- 25:45fight that was coming up on this weekend It's
- 25:48cancelled. And according to me, the event should
- 25:53be fucking scrapped. Joe Joyce versus some random
- 25:56no -hoper doesn't do it for me. Hmm. I am happy
- 26:04that Joe Joyce is back. Oh, this is Russia versus
- 26:11everyone else. This whole thing. Is it in Russia?
- 26:15Yes. Yeah, I don't recognize any names except
- 26:21Joe Joyce. Is Gassiev still fighting? He... Oh.
- 26:34Boxrec still has Tony Yoka listed, so... Okay,
- 26:38so it hasn't been updated. It should be Garcia
- 26:48versus Joe Joyce at this point. That would actually
- 26:55be kind of fun. It would save the event. We should
- 27:04make some phone calls. Yeah. Hello, Mr. Russian
- 27:08Boxing Commission. We have a plan. IBA Pro 19
- 27:12saved. But there you go. That kind of kills the
- 27:22weekend. But let me put some info in here. The

- 30:56June 24th. No limit boxing in Australia. Just
- 31:03the one fight that mattered. Lewis Crocker loses
- 31:07his title. Liam Parrow, the Croc Hunter. That
- 31:12was fun. He claims the IBF welterweight title.
- 31:17His immediate mandatory is fucking Patty Donovan.
- 31:24Nice. I like Patty Donovan fights. I would just
- 31:29like for Liam Parrow to... rid us of these freaks.
- 31:34Brits? No, not just Brits. Patty Donovan, I think,
- 31:37is Irish. And then Karen Chakadzian. He's been
- 31:43hanging around the top of the IBF rankings for
- 31:47a while. Get rid of these fucking people. We
- 31:51need another generation of challengers and contenders.
- 31:55Get rid of the Eurotrash? Yes. This was a pretty
- 31:59close fight, though. I think Crocker kind of
- 32:02blew it in the first half. Like, he started really
- 32:07slow. Yeah, inactivity. Because, what were the
- 32:14scorecards? It was 115 -113 all the way across,
- 32:18right? I don't remember. It was a while ago.
- 32:22Yes. Yep, 115 -113 all the way. Yeah, it was
- 32:35kind of a boring first half, and then Crocker
- 32:41really tried to come on late, but he just waited
- 32:43too long. At least in my opinion. I think you
- 32:49nailed it. Was he even downloading? Is that the
- 32:59term people like to use? I don't know what the
- 33:01fuck he was doing. Anyways, I also prefer Pero
- 33:08over these guys. And it's nice to get Australians
- 33:14kind of excited about boxing. Like, decent boxing
- 33:17instead of the crap they usually watch. A lot
- 33:22of football players. Aussie rules football players.
- 33:26Yeah, yeah. That makes Pero two -weight world
- 33:31champ. Correct. Is that right? Yeah. Which, Australia
- 33:36doesn't have those very often. Like, I think
- 33:38it's been a long time. Cambosos? He only won
- 33:48in one weight class, right? He was a two -time.
- 33:51Oh, two -time. Yeah, two -time at 135. You're
- 33:54right. Let me see. Maybe I'm making shit up,
- 33:59but I think it's been a long time. Google has
- 34:04gotten so shit, Leo. I know. They're leaning
- 34:08on their AI shit instead of what made them synonymous
- 34:14with internet searching. Okay, so Jeff Fenwick
- 34:20was the last one. How old is Jeff Fenwick? He's
- 34:24quite old, isn't he? So he is 62 years old. So
- 34:29it's been a while. Congratulations to Liam Farrow,
- 34:37though. Rockin' Fights 54, brought to you by
- 34:45Star Boxing. Only two fights I wanted to mention.
- 34:50Wendy Toussaint gets a majority draw. He's one
- 34:54of those contender types who usually hangs around
- 34:58the higher levels, but he's a little down bad
- 35:04at the moment. And my local guy, Mickey Scala,
- 35:10drops the ball by UD. Son of a bitch. Ooh, pretty
- 35:18badly as well. Yeah. Dropped in the first round,
- 35:21I believe. And just never got better. That...
- 35:32Was on Saturday, June 27th. I'm going to skip
- 35:36to Sunday, June 28th. Let's get this out of the
- 35:39way. Okay. Zufa Boxing 8 at the Chelsea Ballroom
- 35:44at the Cosmo. What do we got here? The prelims.
- 35:52Jabrio Pebenito got knocked out by Tony Hirsch.
- 35:57It was a pretty nice knockout. JPB had a nice
- 36:02knockout on his last time out. So I was hoping
- 36:06to see him do it again. Unfortunate. How the
- 36:10tables have turned. Indeed. In the main portion,
- 36:17the top three fights, we had Kane Sandoval getting
- 36:20a majority decision over Brandon Lee. Brandon
- 36:23Lee did not look good. No, he did not. That makes
- 36:28me sad. I'm surprised it was that close. I don't
- 36:33know what the hell the person who gave the draw
- 36:37was thinking. I think they were trying to help
- 36:40Brandon save face a little bit. The cards were
- 36:44actually pretty close. Not draw close, though.
- 36:49Well, one was 96 -94, so it was one round off,
- 36:53and the other was 97 -93. That's a little bit
- 36:57more accurate. I guess 96 -94 is possible, but
- 37:01not quite to my liking. The cards were much closer
- 37:06than the fight was to me, anyways. Yeah. I would
- 37:12agree with that. Omar Trinidad gets the UD over
- 37:18Jerwin on Cajas. This one also made me sad. Yeah,
- 37:23Jerwin's had a hell of a run, so... cool, you're
- 37:27getting paid as best you can in the tail end
- 37:32of your career. He gave a hell of a fight. It
- 37:37was really obvious, though, that he was in the
- 37:41shop -worn category. Yeah, he was definitely
- 37:44outclassed, but you have to give it to him. He
- 37:46didn't just sit down. He tried. Yeah. But Omar
- 37:51Trinidad was just much better. And in the main
- 37:58event, Rayo Valenzuela knocks out Edwin De Los
- 38:02Santos. There was a bit of a late hit. In the
- 38:07second, there was a bit of a late hit. Edwin
- 38:10is going to be contesting the results of the
- 38:13fight based on that late hit. I think... So they
- 38:19insisted on the video replay. And the video replay
- 38:24guys said that there was no problem. So they're
- 38:29contesting it more than that, but it's already
- 38:32been upheld once. It was a late hit. It really
- 38:35was. There's no excuse for it. I don't know if
- 38:41it changed the outcome. I don't think so. He
- 38:45was on his ass already. Doesn't really matter,
- 38:48does it? It shouldn't really matter. A late hit
- 38:54is a late hit. And he was clearly down on his
- 38:57knee. Like, Valenzuela had time to stop it. Yeah,
- 39:01you're right. I really like Jose Valenzuela,
- 39:06but that was a late hit. It was. Do I think it
- 39:09changed the outcome? No. Do I want it overturned?
- 39:14No. But it was a late hit. If they do it again,
- 39:21I think it's going to go the same way. I kind
- 39:25of do, too. Although, Delos Santos caught him
- 39:31a couple times. Like, Jose Valenzuela gets hit.
- 39:34He just has a much better chin, I think. It was
- 39:41a fun fight while it lasted, though. I'd watch
- 39:44a rematch. A third trilogy. Oh, was that already
- 39:51a rematch? Yes. The first time Edwin knocked
- 39:54out Valenzuela. Right. I forgot about that. Oh,
- 40:02I had forgotten about this. So BoxRec said De
- 40:07Los Santos was down once in round two and deducted
- 40:11a point for hitting Valenzuela after he was down.
- 40:14So perhaps a little payback. That adds a layer
- 40:21to it. That might have been more intentional
- 40:24than I thought it was. It didn't look like he
- 40:30was putting his full weight behind it. It's like
- 40:34Edwin was down on his knee and then he kind of
- 40:38tapped him a little bit. I think it was more
- 40:43than a tap. But it was not full power. Yeah,
- 40:46he didn't have his full weight behind it. He
- 40:48just kind of like, yeah, bitch, I can do it too.
- 40:51Yeah. Hmm. I wonder. I wonder if that was more
- 40:55intentional than I thought it was. Hmm. But yeah,
- 41:02I'd watch a third one. Fuck it. Yeah, why not?
- 41:06So it looks like Valenzuela is going to be the
- 41:10king of Zufa. I mean, I don't like Zufa, but
- 41:16there's worse things, I guess. If he's happy
- 41:24with it, if he's happy with where he is, then
- 41:26all right. Who am I to begrudge? So I know Bodhi
- 41:32and Schofield are fighting for that vacant WBA
- 41:35soon. Valenzuela's positioned at number three
- 41:39right now. So I don't know if the WBA is going
- 41:44to play with Zufa or not, but he might get another
- 41:46title shot soon. All right. Last thing. Matchroom
- 42:02and Top Rank collab on DAZN at the Barclays Center
- 42:06in Brooklyn. From... The bottom up, just going
- 42:13to list off some. Stop me if you want. Dennis
- 42:18Thompson split decision over Edwin Rodriguez
- 42:20was an okay fight. Quincy Williams, UD over Jerome
- 42:27Baxter. Juanmita Lopez, K01 over Alberto Motos.
- 42:35Juanma is stringing them together nicely. Yeah.
- 42:41He's looking good. Yeah, he doesn't look like
- 42:44a 5 -0 fighter, 6 -0 fighter. No, and he's really
- 42:48young still, right? He's 20, I think. I think
- 42:52he's in his early 20s. Yeah. Ben Whittaker stops
- 43:00Popeye Rivera in two. I don't like Ben Whittaker.
- 43:12I mean, it was a very... He's fine. Bastard.
- 43:16No. He's the one who jumped over the ropes, right?
- 43:20Yes, and then said it was his back, then it was
- 43:23his ankle or some shit. Yeah. Yeah, fuck him.
- 43:33Jahai Tucker gets the majority decision over
- 43:35Yuri Sedano. Emiliano Vargas. stops Bryce Mills
- 43:42in the fourth. Emiliano looked good in this fight.
- 43:48He did. I thought he looked very sharp. I'm surprised
- 43:58at how quickly things turned around because I
- 44:01thought in the very beginning Bryce Mills was
- 44:04looking pretty game. Yeah, the first round. First
- 44:11round, round and a half, it looked like it was
- 44:14going to be like a close fight. And then Vargas
- 44:17just figured it out. Yeah. And then quickly beat
- 44:24the... Yeah, very quickly beat the piss out of
- 44:27him. Jaron Ennis stops Xander Zayas in the seventh.
- 44:39WBA, WBO. super welterweight titles have been
- 44:43claimed. I know everyone knew that Boots was
- 44:51going to win, or everyone was pretty sure. I
- 44:54thought Xander put on a good showing. He did.
- 44:58I think he did better than everyone expected.
- 45:02And he had Boots rocked a couple times. Like,
- 45:05he had him hurt. Yeah, I agree. so excited. I
- 45:11thought maybe Zayas was gonna pull off the crazy
- 45:13upset KO. What round was that? Maybe three? Three
- 45:19or four. Yeah. It was a fun fight, though. Like,
- 45:26if you missed it, it's definitely worth a replay.
- 45:31Pretty good back and forth action. Xander looked...
- 45:39A lot better. Than I. Absolutely I was. Giving
- 45:44him credit for. I was expecting him to get fucking.
- 45:48Schooled pretty much. I think that was. What
- 45:52I was calling for. Before the fight was. Ennis
- 45:56sweeps. Worst case. He sweeps a decision. Best
- 46:02case it's a late stoppage. But as you pointed
- 46:06out. Xander had. Great spots. He's got a hell
- 46:11of a chin. He can game plan. He's wily. He's
- 46:17got pretty solid power. Yeah. He's pretty damn
- 46:22good. I think he'll be back in the title picture
- 46:25pretty soon. Oh, for sure. And Xander's young.
- 46:30He's only, what, 24, 23? Something like that?
- 46:35Something like that. I don't think this loss
- 46:41is going to hurt him very much. No. I think this
- 46:44was him pushing himself too far. Like, he wasn't
- 46:50ready for this fight, but good on him for taking
- 46:52it. I wonder if Ennis a little bit underestimated
- 46:58him. Like, I think Boots thought it was going
- 47:02to be a bit of a walk until he got really cracked
- 47:06there. There was talk of... I'm trying to...
- 47:17Okay, BoxRec, you are stupid now. There was talk
- 47:25of Jaron Ennis was trying to make a unification
- 47:29fight with Fundora. I don't know if that's a
- 47:34good choice for Jaron Ennis after seeing this
- 47:37fight. I think Fandora hits pretty hard. He does.
- 47:44And Ennis' chin seems a little suspect. And Fandora's
- 47:49getting smarter. Like, every fight, I think Fandora
- 47:55improves. But Fandora is going to be fighting
- 48:02his mandatory. It's... I'm trying to remember
- 48:07the guy's name. But it's kind of odd that Sebastian
- 48:17Fundora has never really had to deal with a mandatory
- 48:19situation before. Now suddenly that Boots wants
- 48:24the action. Oh, you think it's a little suspect?
- 48:30Yeah. What is this? Ermal Hadribe. I think I
- 48:37butchered that properly. It's a dude from Albania.
- 48:42I have never heard of this dude. I mean, Fundora's
- 48:49allowed to take his mandatories. I don't think
- 48:53it's ducking to take your mandatory. He kind
- 48:55of has to. I mean, it's a mandatory after all.
- 48:58Yeah, he wants to keep his belt. It's just strange.
- 49:03The timing of it is strange. On the WBC side?
- 49:09Yeah. You mean? Yeah. How is Tim Zhu still number
- 49:18one in the WBO? That's crazy. Fight the fights,
- 49:29I guess. I guess. If Jaron Ennis isn't going
- 49:42to be facing Fundora for the unification, Josh
- 49:45Kelly is busy. What else is there for him to
- 49:50do? Virgil Ortiz? Is that it? I mean, that would
- 49:57be the biggest fight. For sure. I don't know.
- 50:03This weight class is kind of weird. Like, there's
- 50:06a handful of big names, but the rest of them
- 50:09are all people I don't recognize. Like, boots
- 50:20against... Like, I don't even know who these
- 50:25people are. Who is Pavel Sosulin? Never heard
- 50:31of him. He's number one in the WBA. Boots isn't
- 50:36fighting Kim Zu. I guess he could fight Madrimov.
- 50:40Not bad. Bakram Mertazaliev, not a bad one. Yeah.
- 50:47Like a bunch of these names at the top here,
- 50:50I just have no idea who the fuck they are. Bakari
- 50:54Samake? No idea. Fergiolio Ruhe? Megamed Kurbanov,
- 51:06I feel like I might have heard of him. I've heard
- 51:08of him. Yeah. I think he got sparked by Madrimov
- 51:13one time. Yeah, he did. Jackson Blanco? Like,
- 51:19who are these people? Danny Garcia's still in
- 51:26the picture. Yeah, I just... This is a weird
- 51:34weight class. Honestly, if they could make it
- 51:37happen, Virgil's the best fight. And it would
- 51:42finally give Virgil his title shot. Virgil loses
- 51:50title shot before Virgil champ? I guess... Josh
- 52:01Kelly just fought, right? Or is fighting soon?
- 52:04He's fighting at the end of the month. That's
- 52:07not that far off timeline -wise. I mean, Boots
- 52:10fought last week. One month's different. They
- 52:14could make the next fight Josh Kelly, or the
- 52:17winner of Kelly Aguiarco. Could. Yeah, they could
- 52:24do that. I don't think anyone really wants to
- 52:27see it, but it would be a unification. If they
- 52:30can't get the Ortiz fight. But the jokes are
- 52:38too funny to keep dunking on Virgil Ortiz. It's
- 52:45true. It's too fun. He was saying on social media
- 52:51that he would have smoked Ennis if he had tagged
- 52:55him the way Zaius did. Yeah, I don't know if
- 52:59I believe that. I don't either. I don't think
- 53:03Jaron Ennis would get tagged like that by Virgil
- 53:09Ortiz. I mean, if Zayas can do it, Virgil probably
- 53:13can. And Virgil is a better finisher. But I do
- 53:20think Boots would be more careful with Virgil.
- 53:22That's what I mean. He would play it a lot more
- 53:26intelligently. Yeah, Zayas really pulled him
- 53:32into like a firefight. I was a little surprised.
- 53:37And his coach was calling for it too. Like he
- 53:40was telling him to get in there and bang. And
- 53:42I'm like, you're an idiot. It worked, but it
- 53:47seems stupid. Boots could have outboxed Zayas,
- 53:52no problem, I think. And Boots was switching
- 53:59stances, right? Yes. I don't know if I've seen
- 54:02him do that before. I've seen him do it when
- 54:07he's, like, in flow state. You know? But he was
- 54:11coming out southpaw. Like, not switching into
- 54:14it. Oh, right. Yeah, that is unusual. So I think
- 54:21Boots was kind of underestimating Zaius and fucking
- 54:24around a bit. I don't think he would make that
- 54:31kind of mistake with Virgil Ortiz. No, I think
- 54:37he would stick to stuff he's good at. I don't
- 54:46know. That weight class is weird. I don't know
- 54:47what's going to happen next. Anything more for...
- 55:00I think that covers it. If you missed it, you
- 55:02should go watch the replay. It was a good fight.
- 55:08All right. Last bit of housekeeping. The phone
- 55:14line, 833 -589 -7637. Hit me up in WhatsApp.
- 55:19I want to hear what you thought of the late hit
- 55:23from De Los Santos. To Valenzuela, then Valenzuela
- 55:28to Delos Santos. Yeah, was it intentional? How

- 59:03a weekend to go do something fun and summery.
- 59:07Yeah, go outside. Don't coop yourself up to watch
- 59:12IBA Pro 19. Tony Yoka's off of it. They're probably
- 59:19still going to go ahead with the rest of the
- 59:20card, but it kind of takes the luster off of
- 59:26it. Yeah. Otherwise, Sunday, July 12th. I don't
- 59:41really recognize any of these people. You're
- 59:44not supposed to. Top tier. On the zone. At the
- 59:49Brentwood Center. In England. The only. People.
- 59:59God. Of all the days. The only people I remember.
- 1:00:07Tiago Osorio Muxanga. He's, I think, a top -tier,
- 1:00:14like, hot prospect. From Mozambique? Yeah. And
- 1:00:23he is fighting someone from Nigeria, so... Tunde
- 1:00:28Segun Adeyemi. I, uh, I don't know if those countries
- 1:00:36have beef, but... Let's pretend they do. Could
- 1:00:43be a good grudge match. That's it. That's all
- 1:00:54we got. That's all the boxing. There's just nothing
- 1:00:58going on. Yeah, it's really a good weekend to
- 1:01:03go find, like, a festival to hit up or something.
- 1:01:08Go find a good food truck. Food trucks are underrated.
- 1:01:12And almost every town has one. Grill? If you
- 1:01:20have one? Yeah. Yeah, if the weather's nice,
- 1:01:26barbecue. Backyard fire. I think lots of cities
- 1:01:31have the fire pits in the parks. Or fishing.
- 1:01:39grills that you can use yeah i think i think
- 1:01:44we're probably talking about similar things i
- 1:01:47just call them fire pits like a place where you
- 1:01:50can put wood with a grill over top yes yeah we're
- 1:01:53talking about the same thing yeah make some hot
- 1:01:58dogs I got it. It was a while ago now, but I
- 1:02:04got a little homesick for just like shitty North
- 1:02:07American food. And they're way overpriced. But
- 1:02:10I got some Johnson Smokies with the cheddar cheese.
- 1:02:13Oh, nice. Fuck are those good? Yeah. No, no fires.
- 1:02:18I don't know the rules around fires. So I just
- 1:02:21had to like, well, I microwave mine, but still
- 1:02:26delicious. Well, we are heading into a nothing
- 1:02:38weekend. Parting words. Yeah. Good weekend to
- 1:02:45go touch grass in the summer. Always a good time
- 1:02:48to touch grass, but now you don't have any excuses.
- 1:02:53Yeah. People should go fishing. I miss fishing.
- 1:03:00It's going to be one of the first things I do
- 1:03:02when I go back to Canada. Catch some pike. Maybe
- 1:03:07a pickerel if I'm lucky. You guys don't call
- 1:03:11them pickerel, though. What's the other word?
- 1:03:14Walleye. You're speaking a different language
- 1:03:19right now. Yeah. Anyways, Saskatchewan, they're
- 1:03:22pickerel. Everywhere else, they're walleye. I
- 1:03:30don't know how common they are, but the city
- 1:03:33I lived in, Saskatoon, they have a trout pond
- 1:03:36where you can pay $2 to go catch trout and you
- 1:03:40can rent fishing rods for $5. But the library
- 1:03:45near there had fishing rods you could just borrow
- 1:03:48with your library card for a day. Nice. Yeah,
- 1:03:52so no excuses for not fishing if your town city
- 1:03:55has that sort of thing. library of things. Yeah.
- 1:04:01I know we've talked about it before, but libraries
- 1:04:04have a lot more than just books. People should
- 1:04:08go check them out. Oof. I got nothing to add
- 1:04:17on this one. How's the weather in Arizona these
- 1:04:21days, Leo? Hot as fucking fuck. We're in the
- 1:04:27mid -40s. Oh shit, it's going to be cloudy tomorrow.
- 1:04:34It's only going to be 39. That fucking sucks.
- 1:04:38My hometown is in its bipolar phase for the year.
- 1:04:42So tomorrow the high is 27 degrees and the nighttime
- 1:04:46low is 11. Wow. Quite the change. Yeah, we get
- 1:04:55these huge temperature swings in the summer if
- 1:04:57it's not cloudy. I'm going to have bonfires and
- 1:05:04I'm going to go fishing and I'm going to shoot
- 1:05:06some shit. I'm excited to go be a redneck again.
- 1:05:10I miss it. I miss it so much. Yeah, I'll leave
- 1:05:18it there. That's going to do it for this edition
- 1:05:20of Boxing Before Dark. Fuck, we'll see you on
- 1:05:25the other side when we have some boxing again.
- 1:05:28Bye. How do you want to convince them to watch
- 1:05:45MMA instead? Or not instead, but just to start
- 1:05:48watching MMA. I'm going to go like a different
- 1:05:51route than Nathan went. I'm going to go with,
- 1:05:54first of all, I think MMA has more frequent watchable
- 1:05:59events. You know, there's some weeks in boxing
- 1:06:03where it's, like, it's either super degenerate
- 1:06:05or, like, no names, whatever. I think in UFC,
- 1:06:08there's, like, it's slightly better at times.
- 1:06:11And then the big, big point, it's just more hectic.
- 1:06:14I think MMA at times is just more hectic. You're
- 1:06:18seeing stuff from street fights all the way to,
- 1:06:20like, movie -type fights. Uh, you know, you got
- 1:06:23roundhouse kicks, uh, straight up like bar fights
- 1:06:26at times. Uh, you just, you get a wider range
- 1:06:29of enjoyable fights, I would say. Um, and then
- 1:06:35just like, I don't know, it's just, it's more
- 1:06:38enjoyable. The fact, the fact that at times you
- 1:06:40get to see just guys like standing and banging,
- 1:06:42it's, it's just more primal in a way, uh, is
- 1:06:45what I'd say. That's how I would try to convince,
- 1:06:48uh, like boxing only fans. that it's just more
- 1:06:51if you enjoy chaos we saw it in the wild which
- 1:06:54is or fight if you enjoy that type chaos uh you
- 1:06:58know because that wasn't exactly like a bunch
- 1:06:59of technique in that fight but if you enjoyed
- 1:07:01something like that i would definitely try out
- 1:07:04mma um just because at times there is high level
- 1:07:08things and that is incredible to watch you know
- 1:07:11people like marisa hoofy uh you're seeing like
- 1:07:14incredible knockouts with uh with kicks um But
- 1:07:18even the lower level stuff can be enjoyable with
- 1:07:21people just going to town on each other, standing
- 1:07:24and banging. That'd probably be the driving point
- 1:07:27that I would say to boxing only fans is that
- 1:07:30if you enjoy that chaos, I would say definitely
- 1:07:33give MMA a try. If you like chaos, I like that.
- 1:07:38If you do decide to give MMA a shot, well, you
- 1:07:41can check out Ultimate FN Casuals. You can hear
- 1:07:43us chat about all the fights that happen every
- 1:07:46weekend, just like on the boxing side.
