- 1:36Speaker 1: around you and not we know each other play well. Absolutely,
- 1:40Speaker 1: but it's good. But you know something each it's a
- 1:41Speaker 1: good been around because all the time I've always seen you.
- 1:45Speaker 1: First of all, your personality has been positive. And one
- 1:47Speaker 1: thing I've loved about her MICA's death. You know, opportunities.
- 1:51Speaker 1: She's not She's fearless because that's what all of people
- 1:54Speaker 1: do because I met her and radio and so when
- 1:58Speaker 1: some people start saying I want to do something thelse
- 2:00Speaker 1: they can get so locked into and comfortable they don't
- 2:04Speaker 1: do it and so and so, so many different levels
- 2:07Speaker 1: and so and that was that was that was urban
- 2:09Speaker 1: radio that she was in, Okay, and then she came
- 2:12Speaker 1: to now she's coming into another area of UM. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: want to say, just there's not we don't see many
- 2:18Speaker 1: black people, won't see many people of color like you two.
- 2:21Speaker 1: That's why it's so refreshing to see that. And I
- 2:24Speaker 1: like to believe this is something we're gonna see on
- 2:25Speaker 1: the regular basis. But and seeing the first two episodes
- 2:28Speaker 1: of your new series, Marriage to Real Estate with like
- 2:31Speaker 1: we said, there's a discovery. Plus I found a family
- 2:35Speaker 1: environment that I was engaged with. But more importantly, this
- 2:39Speaker 1: is what y'all do. I never questioned that you guys
- 2:42Speaker 1: who are prop I never called you. I'm saying that
- 2:45Speaker 1: that's what can happen. You know, they get a cute
- 2:47Speaker 1: couple like you guys, you got the cute little children.
- 2:50Speaker 1: You know, they said y'all be a great TV show.
- 2:53Speaker 1: It's no doubt in my mind this is what y'all do.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But each but I have to go back to this
- 2:58Speaker 1: because you know this is I call this my masterclass series.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Because you're talking about people in a market. Now we
- 3:06Speaker 1: all know it's hard to get a home out that nowadays, Okay,
- 3:09Speaker 1: it's it's it's sometimes thirty people waiting on the same
- 3:11Speaker 1: building and trying to call their home. How did y'all
- 3:14Speaker 1: How did y'all able? How are we all able to
- 3:16Speaker 1: do a series and this type of real estate boom
- 3:19Speaker 1: where homes are scarce and people are trying to make
- 3:22Speaker 1: a decision on different properties while you're doing the show. So, Rishan,
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, I'm a real estate Broker's what I've done
- 3:30Speaker 1: for you know, twenty years, and that also means that
- 3:33Speaker 1: I've lived through and strived through and grew through every
- 3:38Speaker 1: real estate environment. You know, when the bubble bursts and
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, people were losing their houses and needed to
- 3:44Speaker 1: be saved with short you know, from foreclosures with short sales.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I coached them through it and help clients through that.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Now we're in an environment where first time home buyers
- 3:53Speaker 1: are being edged out completely. Even experienced home buyers are
- 3:57Speaker 1: like one of thirty different offers and listenings are going
- 4:00Speaker 1: for fifty six seventy thousand over asks the price. I mean,
- 4:04Speaker 1: it's crazy out here right now, but I think that
- 4:08Speaker 1: this is what I've been built for. If that makes sense,
- 4:11Speaker 1: all these years of working, through living, through existing, through buying,
- 4:15Speaker 1: through renovating, through in our own lives has prepared us
- 4:18Speaker 1: for this moment where we can help our clients through
- 4:21Speaker 1: and there if I if I told you the house
- 4:23Speaker 1: and I would be I would be giving away all
- 4:26Speaker 1: my tricks of the trade, m when I go up
- 4:28Speaker 1: against other offers. So I won't go there. But what
- 4:31Speaker 1: I will say is stay encouraged. And if you're in
- 4:35Speaker 1: the market to buy a home, make sure all real
- 4:38Speaker 1: estate agents were not created equal. They were not. You
- 4:41Speaker 1: take a you take a class, you get a license
- 4:43Speaker 1: if you pass the test. But what you want is
- 4:45Speaker 1: a season to experience shown improving real estate professional who
- 4:50Speaker 1: can coach you and come up with a strategy to
- 4:52Speaker 1: help you, you know, get successfully to the finish line. Now, Mike,
- 4:56Speaker 1: you know when I google Egypt, you know a lot
- 4:58Speaker 1: of things pop up pictures for though she's posing this way,
- 5:01Speaker 1: posing this way, and television show, television show, you know,
- 5:04Speaker 1: extention background and entertainment business or I just see a
- 5:08Speaker 1: reference to a business. Give us a little background on
- 5:11Speaker 1: your journey into a building renovations and uh in this
- 5:16Speaker 1: market and so we can get assist your culture and
- 5:19Speaker 1: your expertise. Definitely. Definitely. So I've been in construction, I
- 5:25Speaker 1: would to say since I was a kid. You know.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I started with my uncle and my grandfather. They had
- 5:29Speaker 1: a construction company and they would always bring me along,
- 5:32Speaker 1: um future forward. I started with the local twenty eight
- 5:37Speaker 1: trade in New York City where I was a journeysman
- 5:40Speaker 1: for sheet metal work, right, and then I transitioned into
- 5:44Speaker 1: owning my own company, which is Jackson Draper Renovations, where
- 5:47Speaker 1: we pretty much do it all carpentry, plumbing, electricity, um,
- 5:52Speaker 1: you know, exterior work, all of the above. It's myself
- 5:55Speaker 1: and my uncle, my partner which is um you'll see
- 5:58Speaker 1: him on the show as well. His name is Mark.
- 6:00Speaker 1: And this is what I do. You know, My wife
- 6:03Speaker 1: and I were teaming up what you'll see it on
- 6:05Speaker 1: the show where we're trying to merge the two businesses
- 6:08Speaker 1: under one umbrella, you know, bringing real estate construction design. Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 1: one design house. But you gotta plait, you're gonna tell
- 6:15Speaker 1: the we're shying. I don't think he knows the full
- 6:17Speaker 1: story that that's how we met. It is how we met. Yes,
- 6:21Speaker 1: thank you, Thank you kept his brother out like you
- 6:24Speaker 1: do on the show anyway that It's not that I
- 6:29Speaker 1: was trying not to take up too much of the time.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Like I said, this is a masterclass we're teaching. We're
- 6:35Speaker 1: educating people about this beautiful couple. Here's what was all
- 6:39Speaker 1: my mind is why I didn't want to talk too
- 6:41Speaker 1: much about me, because I wanted to piggyback off of
- 6:43Speaker 1: the discussion you brought up in the beginning. As far
- 6:46Speaker 1: as we're not being feeless, she's beyond not feelings. She's
- 6:49Speaker 1: also selfless. She's despite to where she doesn't worry about
- 6:54Speaker 1: what everyone else is gonna think, despite of what's cool
- 6:56Speaker 1: or despite what's hot at the moment, She's gonna do
- 6:58Speaker 1: what's gonna make sense for are and what is going
- 7:01Speaker 1: to be successful for those around her, meaning family. It's
- 7:04Speaker 1: not about the business or the hype of the business.
- 7:06Speaker 1: It is about, Okay, what's smart for the moment and
- 7:08Speaker 1: what's gonna make sense in the future. So that's what
- 7:11Speaker 1: I wanted to touch on them. That's why I can
- 7:12Speaker 1: go for much think I'll keep you. Thank you so.
- 7:17Speaker 1: But yes, we met in the early stages. I was
- 7:21Speaker 1: actually DJ and I still do periodic radio DJ. I
- 7:25Speaker 1: tell you when I met you I was a radio
- 7:27Speaker 1: DJ was radio okay in worldwide. You know. We met
- 7:31Speaker 1: in three separate incidents, but one of them took us
- 7:34Speaker 1: back to where I ended up on a rooftop with
- 7:36Speaker 1: her because she had her foot. Mioll stuck in the room,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you know, trying excuse the shelf the story, please, okay, okay, okay. So,
- 7:52Speaker 1: so I was flipping houses in Newark, New Jersey, while
- 7:55Speaker 1: I was a radio personality in New York City, right,
- 7:58Speaker 1: And I'm a scorpio, And what that kind of means
- 8:03Speaker 1: is if you back me into a corner, my stinger
- 8:05Speaker 1: comes up and sometimes goes over well, but not always
- 8:08Speaker 1: over overwhelming business. And so what happened was all my
- 8:11Speaker 1: contractors walked off the job because I came off a
- 8:15Speaker 1: way hard. It's hard to be a woman working in
- 8:18Speaker 1: construction as well. You know, men don't always take that well.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And so when you kind of come also, and that's
- 8:23Speaker 1: part of the country, I'm just really chauvinistic. Well just
- 8:27Speaker 1: I can tend for a fact, I lived in New York,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I've lived all this. It gets really chauvinistic in that
- 8:31Speaker 1: northeast part of the country, especialist Jersey area. It does
- 8:35Speaker 1: so so they walked off the job, and I later
- 8:38Speaker 1: found myself trying to tar a hole in the roof
- 8:41Speaker 1: by myself and I fell through the roof, and in
- 8:46Speaker 1: that moment I realized I needed some help. I called
- 8:48Speaker 1: my mentor at the time, who referred him, And when
- 8:53Speaker 1: he pulled up, I'm like, what are you doing here?
- 8:55Speaker 1: You're a dj that's funny. That's on it rocking rooftop baby,
- 9:02Speaker 1: right right right, right, right right right, I'm a movie
- 9:05Speaker 1: walk all over this rooftop, baby, rock your world. I
- 9:10Speaker 1: didn't know he was. I didn't know he was really
- 9:12Speaker 1: also a businessman, and you know, he was a contractor,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and you know that that Djane was a facet of
- 9:18Speaker 1: what he did, but it wasn't all that all of
- 9:20Speaker 1: who he was. And we kind of fell in love
- 9:22Speaker 1: over that renovation. You saved my life, saved the shoe
- 9:26Speaker 1: for shore, You saved a shoe for show for shot
- 9:30Speaker 1: that you know. The interesting thing about and that didn't
- 9:34Speaker 1: even say interesting, is that, you know, I tell everybody
- 9:38Speaker 1: and when I look at television now, television is so
- 9:41Speaker 1: fun for a person of color to me now, because
- 9:44Speaker 1: I see us on television on long stories, I see
- 9:48Speaker 1: us in commercials in a racial commercials all it's it's
- 9:52Speaker 1: all kind of things that really make you feel comfortable
- 9:54Speaker 1: when you turn on the TV and make you comfortablehen
- 9:56Speaker 1: you walk in the street. Here, Okay, I guess you
- 9:58Speaker 1: were cool now in a way because you can see
- 10:00Speaker 1: me banking, me dating, me, having my my Santa Claus
- 10:05Speaker 1: is black, all that good stuff. And so our president
- 10:08Speaker 1: was black. Yeah, so not advice president is black. So
- 10:12Speaker 1: you know, stuff becomes a little normal. We know it's
- 10:14Speaker 1: not all normal, but the watching the show, um and
- 10:17Speaker 1: seeing you guys, what do you think is the most
- 10:19Speaker 1: magical thing about you as a couple on TV talking
- 10:25Speaker 1: to people, encouraging them making life decisions and then showing
- 10:30Speaker 1: them that this is the best opportunity to move their
- 10:32Speaker 1: life forward. Sometimes it's a couple and sometimes as a family.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I think that for us, we have these conversations often,
- 10:40Speaker 1: right because as a black family, um, you know, on
- 10:44Speaker 1: national television where you're not just talking to an African
- 10:47Speaker 1: American audience, you know, questions come up. Even an advisory
- 10:51Speaker 1: if you know what I mean, you're you're an advisor
- 10:53Speaker 1: as well, so you know, an advisory, it's you know,
- 10:56Speaker 1: what do we need to change anything to appeal to
- 10:59Speaker 1: the masses. And I think for us the blessing in
- 11:02Speaker 1: this entire experience, as no one has asked us to
- 11:05Speaker 1: change a thing. Like I was on the Today Show
- 11:07Speaker 1: this morning in dreadlocks. You know what I mean? I
- 11:12Speaker 1: there there, God is locks. There, God is locks. But no,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I think, like Funday when I think about it, like Monday,
- 11:19Speaker 1: I shot a commercial, a commercial for the International Excuse me,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I I shot a commercial for the Intercontinental
- 11:27Speaker 1: Exchange for US stock market, and no one asked me
- 11:31Speaker 1: to tone down anything like no attitude, no blackness, no nothing.
- 11:36Speaker 1: On our show, that's very much who we are, and
- 11:39Speaker 1: our network h G TV loves it like we want,
- 11:43Speaker 1: we want you just as you are. I think that
- 11:46Speaker 1: that is a blessing in it and just this whole
- 11:48Speaker 1: experience our show, the idea that you know, we are
- 11:51Speaker 1: a black family successful. You know, we have beautiful children
- 11:54Speaker 1: who are sweet, who are educated. We're together, we're you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: we're married. We don't have a a broken home, which
- 12:01Speaker 1: is what people stereotypically expect. We don't fight. There's no
- 12:05Speaker 1: drama or gossip out fear about us and you know,
- 12:08Speaker 1: cheating and all this not. People kind of expect that
- 12:12Speaker 1: when they see African American families on TV that there's
- 12:15Speaker 1: gonna come a whole bag of tricks with it. And
- 12:17Speaker 1: the blessing in this experience, not only that we get
- 12:20Speaker 1: to do it together, is that there's no drama, and
- 12:23Speaker 1: so we're showing we can do it too. We are
- 12:25Speaker 1: doing it too. We've always been here. Thank god, you're
- 12:29Speaker 1: just noticing it. We will be right back with more
- 12:31Speaker 1: money making conversation with Rushan McDonald. It's finally here, the

- 14:51Speaker 1: with Rashan McDonald. Hey, Mike, I want to say this, Mike, Mike.
- 14:55Speaker 1: She kind of said she tries to set you up
- 14:57Speaker 1: a couple of times, you know, when she comes in
- 14:58Speaker 1: the room, this little baby, just this little baby, and
- 15:02Speaker 1: then she references, Oh, you're trying to say something about
- 15:05Speaker 1: my week. I said, oh no, just try to set up.
- 15:08Speaker 1: No by just try to set you up. So about
- 15:14Speaker 1: to feedback over that as well as and answer your
- 15:16Speaker 1: question with the magic part. I think the magic in
- 15:18Speaker 1: it is that we are really doing the work right.
- 15:22Speaker 1: We don't step in and then say cut, okay, somebody
- 15:25Speaker 1: else come and do this. Yes, you see a couple,
- 15:28Speaker 1: not just a black couple, a couple that is universally
- 15:31Speaker 1: appealing to the masses. Right. It's positive. It's full of family,
- 15:35Speaker 1: it's full of education, it's full of information, right to
- 15:40Speaker 1: where you can say, Okay, I'm used to this. This
- 15:44Speaker 1: sounds familiar, This looks familiar. I'm tuning in. But I
- 15:48Speaker 1: think what's what it's good too, is you also see
- 15:50Speaker 1: a little bit of our masks. You know, you can
- 15:52Speaker 1: drive my craze what you're gonna do with my part?
- 15:59Speaker 1: My he my boy, not my boy. It's like I said,
- 16:02Speaker 1: I just showed you all to examples when you trying
- 16:04Speaker 1: to set them up. You know what I'm saying, you know,
- 16:06Speaker 1: talking about baby, I think I eat too much? Now,
- 16:09Speaker 1: I think I've eaten too much baby? Where you think
- 16:12Speaker 1: uh that I'm not answering that question of TV. No,
- 16:16Speaker 1: you ain't doing me like that, honey. You know, that's
- 16:18Speaker 1: the fun part of what I'm talking about, this relationship,
- 16:21Speaker 1: because that's what I'm doing by life, you know, because
- 16:23Speaker 1: but it's captured on film organically, and I'm gonna be
- 16:26Speaker 1: real about it. It ain't even by race. Now, it's
- 16:28Speaker 1: about join a couple. And that gives me information because
- 16:33Speaker 1: I watched these shows. These are the type of shows
- 16:36Speaker 1: that will be running where you're the car dealerships, sitting
- 16:38Speaker 1: there wait on your call, these type calls, This type
- 16:40Speaker 1: of shows that are running when you're waiting there in
- 16:42Speaker 1: the hospital lobby, these type of shows that are just running.
- 16:46Speaker 1: They're so comfortable because they're so informative. And that's the
- 16:49Speaker 1: part of it that I love, because I love that
- 16:51Speaker 1: part where you know you you walk them through the house,
- 16:55Speaker 1: you know, and that's the part where you know people
- 16:57Speaker 1: know what they're talking about when you because people really
- 17:01Speaker 1: they're about to give their life to you. And in
- 17:03Speaker 1: some of these houses that you're walking in, you can't
- 17:06Speaker 1: be so forceful that you feel like this is it
- 17:08Speaker 1: a y'all? But that part walks through that whole part
- 17:12Speaker 1: of creating that organic relationship. Mike as a builder because
- 17:17Speaker 1: she's the face of the she's the dreamer, but you
- 17:19Speaker 1: have to put it together. And then she comes in
- 17:21Speaker 1: and she had changed on you. Well, why I didn't
- 17:24Speaker 1: want it like that? I mean, like, come on, don't
- 17:27Speaker 1: do Mike like that on film. Don't do them like
- 17:29Speaker 1: that on film. But he laughs at I loved it.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I loved I loved it. I loved it. When the
- 17:38Speaker 1: floor was gold and other floor was browned on the
- 17:40Speaker 1: floor with this you go, oh baby, where I got you?
- 17:43Speaker 1: I got you? And she walked, Okay, well I'll be
- 17:47Speaker 1: back walking walking in. I'll just tell you a couple
- 17:51Speaker 1: of things that really messed him up. She on the
- 17:53Speaker 1: construction side, y'all. She walking there with hills on, open top,
- 18:00Speaker 1: open toes, open toes. Here because Mike saying, Mike, my day.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I might be with my real estate clients, I still
- 18:10Speaker 1: need to look professional. They don't understand me coming in
- 18:12Speaker 1: and work through Mike. You're talking talk to me. Mike
- 18:17Speaker 1: talked to me. Mike said, you're gonna used to step
- 18:20Speaker 1: on the nail, used step on. I thought I thought
- 18:23Speaker 1: me and you were friends. Now you take it his side,
- 18:26Speaker 1: because you know, the thing about it is that you
- 18:29Speaker 1: know in these shows, because you know, like I said,
- 18:31Speaker 1: I love the fact that the potential of who y'all
- 18:36Speaker 1: are to me. I'm comfortable. I want to watch, I
- 18:38Speaker 1: want to learn. I want to say, can I get that?
- 18:41Speaker 1: Can I get them to do that to my house?
- 18:44Speaker 1: That's what I know. It's special because I'm going like,
- 18:48Speaker 1: because you know, I've done a lot of remodeling. You know,
- 18:50Speaker 1: I have people in my house, going so how are
- 18:52Speaker 1: you pulling that off? That? And it looks so beautiful.
- 18:55Speaker 1: But again, like I was saying, Mike, you are the builder.
- 18:58Speaker 1: You know, she comes up with these pricings. Well, we
- 19:01Speaker 1: can only do it for a hundred thousand. We can
- 19:03Speaker 1: do and they don't know that the gas meter sitting
- 19:07Speaker 1: over there with the window gonna be you know what
- 19:08Speaker 1: I'm saying. Don't know that though, you know, but she's
- 19:11Speaker 1: gonna tell everybody We're gonna put a window there. You
- 19:13Speaker 1: gotta come in and go, hey baby, it's a gas
- 19:14Speaker 1: meter there. Um, we'll take care, honey, I love you. Yeah,
- 19:24Speaker 1: she she you know, she'll give them, um the division,
- 19:28Speaker 1: your sir, and then I will, uh you know, softly
- 19:32Speaker 1: bring it back down to reality, make them feel comfortable. Um,
- 19:36Speaker 1: allow them to trust me, you know, one with smart decisions,
- 19:39Speaker 1: showing them how we can get there and for some
- 19:42Speaker 1: reason they can't afford how we can get there doing
- 19:45Speaker 1: for less, but by doing different options. Right. Um. I
- 19:48Speaker 1: think it's all about listening and letting them speak and
- 19:51Speaker 1: let them be heard, allowing them to let you know
- 19:54Speaker 1: exactly what they want, and then you coming in and
- 19:58Speaker 1: making it feel relatable. You know what I love about
- 20:00Speaker 1: this man and why why this works is because he
- 20:05Speaker 1: lets me be me. He knows that you're right. I'm
- 20:08Speaker 1: a dreamer, I'm a visionary. I'm gonna show everything in
- 20:12Speaker 1: its purest potential. Um and he'll let me live that
- 20:15Speaker 1: out and then he'll humbly bring everybody back down the earth.
- 20:22Speaker 1: That's everything that he does. He even I get car sick, uh,
- 20:27Speaker 1: you know, so I have to drive, and that's when
- 20:30Speaker 1: when anybody's driving, Even if someone sends a car with
- 20:33Speaker 1: a driver for me, I'm like, I don't know if
- 20:35Speaker 1: I want I want to drive because I get really
- 20:37Speaker 1: car sick. You know a lot of men Rashan wouldn't
- 20:40Speaker 1: be comfortable with their wife behind the wheel, if you
- 20:44Speaker 1: know what I mean. So for on, for seventeen and
- 20:47Speaker 1: a half years, he'll sit in the passenger seat, but
- 20:51Speaker 1: and let me drive and be okay with that, you know,
- 20:54Speaker 1: And he still believe. He still leaves our family even
- 20:58Speaker 1: break absolutely absolutely, absolutely absolutely absolutely worried about that seven
- 21:04Speaker 1: year itch. You know what I'm saying, that seven year itch.
- 21:06Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. But you know, the beauty
- 21:09Speaker 1: of all if we go through the episodes, you don't
- 21:11Speaker 1: do this show a loan. You have three or wonderful children.
- 21:14Speaker 1: They're girls. They're the part of the show. Andreaged part
- 21:17Speaker 1: of the show, like part of the show talk about
- 21:19Speaker 1: the overall casting and the need to organically, you know,
- 21:23Speaker 1: introduce your family. And like I said, I've only told
- 21:26Speaker 1: the first two episodes, so more people are going to
- 21:28Speaker 1: be introduced. What was the whole theory behind the introduction.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Are you trying to just let everybody know this is
- 21:35Speaker 1: us or what was the whole background behind that whole process.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I think people had to kind of get to know
- 21:41Speaker 1: us first, right, who who each of this, Who my kids,
- 21:44Speaker 1: who we are as a couple, who we are as
- 21:45Speaker 1: a family with our children. But really, for our business
- 21:49Speaker 1: is to work, we could never do it alone. We
- 21:52Speaker 1: got a whole army behind us, um and we want
- 21:55Speaker 1: people to embrace them as well normally with normalcy. So
- 21:59Speaker 1: you know, we kind of gotta ease him and let
- 22:00Speaker 1: you let you learn everybody. So Andre is a designer
- 22:04Speaker 1: friend of mine. He's super talented. He's done some of
- 22:07Speaker 1: the biggest design houses in Atlanta and all over the country.
- 22:11Speaker 1: But but really, when everything's off and we let our
- 22:14Speaker 1: hair down, He's one of my best friends. So he's
- 22:16Speaker 1: the person that I call if I'm like, I can't
- 22:19Speaker 1: figure out this room. I need some input, right, you know.
- 22:23Speaker 1: And and when I'm I'm doing my my child's room,
- 22:26Speaker 1: it's like I want I need second eyes. But Mike
- 22:28Speaker 1: can't stand it. Whenever my phone is digging from my
- 22:31Speaker 1: bank notifications. Andre has very high elite taste. You know.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I do everything kind of on the budget on my own,
- 22:40Speaker 1: but when he comes in, the price triples. So Mike's
- 22:43Speaker 1: I love you, but you gotta go, bro. But let's
- 22:46Speaker 1: let's talk about the pricing and all that, because you
- 22:48Speaker 1: know this is we're not talking about to see it.
- 22:50Speaker 1: But that's that's that's where the experience comes in. That's
- 22:53Speaker 1: when to walk into a property and give an estimate
- 22:55Speaker 1: of what it's gonna take to get there. And Mike,
- 22:59Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to you as a builder, as a
- 23:01Speaker 1: person who really is the nuts and boats of renovation.
- 23:04Speaker 1: How how does that process work for you that you
- 23:07Speaker 1: trust your natural instincts or do you have a roller
- 23:10Speaker 1: dex did you just go you fall back on to
- 23:13Speaker 1: be able to make sure that you hit that number. Yeah, well,
- 23:18Speaker 1: a lot of relationships for one, um with subs, with
- 23:21Speaker 1: a lot of big box stores, with a lot of friends.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You know, so those relationships, I keep those in mind
- 23:28Speaker 1: as I'm going through properties. But in this day and
- 23:30Speaker 1: age where wood and materials of fluctuating in price and
- 23:34Speaker 1: sometimes over priced, I have to get creative, you know,
- 23:37Speaker 1: where we go to refurbished properties or refurbished warehouses and
- 23:42Speaker 1: use materials or I use things that I may have
- 23:45Speaker 1: in my warehouse, you know. Um, yeah, we actually did
- 23:48Speaker 1: that on some of the episodes, where we reuse things
- 23:51Speaker 1: and repurpose them right and make them updated. You know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: it's not always about let's let's demolish this and make
- 23:58Speaker 1: a great scene. It's about let's do those smart decisions
- 24:00Speaker 1: that's gonna make sense. So we can't hit that target. Yeah,
- 24:03Speaker 1: but Rashan, sometimes we gotta give the bad news. You know,
- 24:06Speaker 1: the bad news is this is your budget, but we
- 24:09Speaker 1: just can't do it for that budget because the reality
- 24:12Speaker 1: is stuff stot of stop right now. We're still in
- 24:14Speaker 1: the pandemic and materials are sparse. So you know, it
- 24:18Speaker 1: made cost forty more than it would have cost last
- 24:21Speaker 1: year or six six months ago. Um, that's when I
- 24:23Speaker 1: let him get the bad news material And not only
- 24:26Speaker 1: have materials went up, but the price of laborers went
- 24:28Speaker 1: up as well. Right, so people are extremely shocked by pricing.
- 24:32Speaker 1: So some of some of my clients that booked our
- 24:35Speaker 1: company before the pandemic and they wanted to wait, they
- 24:38Speaker 1: are now calling in getting side swiped. You know. So
- 24:44Speaker 1: story at this moment, Well, we're talking to Egypt Sharad,
- 24:48Speaker 1: she's the queen, and Mike Jackson he's the king, and
- 24:52Speaker 1: h You're married to real estate as an exciting new show.
- 24:55Speaker 1: It's a show. A reason I say it's exciting because
- 24:58Speaker 1: they're refreshing, they're entertained. An I want to invite him
- 25:02Speaker 1: into my home. You will invite him into your home. Uh.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Discovery Plus they're streaming right now. You don't know Egypt.
- 25:08Speaker 1: She has a bootcoo amount of work that's on Discovery
- 25:12Speaker 1: Plus right now. She is the expert, she's the queen.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I've always respect her my long This is not just
- 25:18Speaker 1: not being based on my long time of relationship. When
- 25:20Speaker 1: I mentioned her name and my house, my wife knew
- 25:23Speaker 1: immediately who she was, and that was to be a
- 25:26Speaker 1: testament that you know, my wife respects you and wants
- 25:30Speaker 1: to be excited about this new venture for you guys.
- 25:33Speaker 1: More importantly, I just see a couple of new stars
- 25:35Speaker 1: of TV that's going to like take over the game.
- 25:38Speaker 1: And I'm gonna tell you something. I'm humble when I
- 25:40Speaker 1: say that because I'm blessed that I can say that
- 25:43Speaker 1: I could have said this five years ago. That's how
- 25:45Speaker 1: times have changed. You guys are landing at the right
- 25:48Speaker 1: time on TV. It's nothing on that show that I
- 25:52Speaker 1: was not disappointed, and I was. It was funny, it
- 25:55Speaker 1: was organic, it was natural, and I felt like it
- 25:57Speaker 1: was a couple just happens to have a camera were
- 26:00Speaker 1: following them around on a rebuild. That's all I saw.
- 26:06Speaker 1: That means a lot coming from you. We know you
- 26:08Speaker 1: know talent. We know that you you know you helped
- 26:11Speaker 1: mold talent as well. Um, and I actually remember a conversation.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember it, but I'm gonna
- 26:17Speaker 1: take you down memory lane just a little bit before
- 26:19Speaker 1: we go. I was working at w BLS in New
- 26:22Speaker 1: York City. I want to say this was about thirteen
- 26:25Speaker 1: years ago. Well but thirteen years ago. Uh, And I said,
- 26:29Speaker 1: for Sean, I gotta keep this on the down low.
- 26:32Speaker 1: But I'm thinking about making the move to Atlanta, and
- 26:36Speaker 1: I know that you're in Atlanta. What do you think
- 26:38Speaker 1: is that a good move for me? And you said,
- 26:40Speaker 1: come on, come over here to my office, which by
- 26:42Speaker 1: the way, happened to be like a little production client
- 26:44Speaker 1: at that moment. That moment, and you sat me down
- 26:48Speaker 1: and you said, this, this is the deal. Atlanta is
- 26:51Speaker 1: for big dogs. Everybody's a star in Atlanta. Everybody's got
- 26:55Speaker 1: something going on in Atlanta. You got some incredible young
- 26:58Speaker 1: black entrepreneur is there. And so if you come in Atlanta,
- 27:02Speaker 1: you gotta have your stuff together. So you get your
- 27:04Speaker 1: game plan first and then you work your plan. I
- 27:06Speaker 1: don't know if you if you remember this conversation, but
- 27:09Speaker 1: it sticks out to me because moving here from New
- 27:12Speaker 1: York after cementing myself as a radio personality there for
- 27:16Speaker 1: many years, was a big, bold move and it was
- 27:20Speaker 1: you know, it took a lot of you know, it
- 27:22Speaker 1: took a lot of guns, and you know for us
- 27:23Speaker 1: to just say we're gonna take a chance and bet
- 27:26Speaker 1: on ourselves and rebuild in an entirely different city where
- 27:30Speaker 1: we didn't know anybody. And it had several great conversations
- 27:35Speaker 1: because you know, she followed us Steve Harvey, now you know,
- 27:38Speaker 1: and so we was always talking about Raidis, always talking
- 27:40Speaker 1: about winning, always talking about But one thing I did
- 27:42Speaker 1: like about us she always had multiple strings of income.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Yeah see right there, she was my friend because that's
- 27:51Speaker 1: important in today's society to be able to wake up
- 27:53Speaker 1: and realize you have options. And when I sat down,
- 27:56Speaker 1: I remember that conversation because it's funny, Egypt, I get
- 27:58Speaker 1: that a lot from people. To Shane, you mean when
- 28:00Speaker 1: you told me this, and I have an honest side
- 28:03Speaker 1: of me that I'm gonna tell you, look, you need
- 28:06Speaker 1: to stay up here. This hit. But I knew that
- 28:08Speaker 1: she had a sense of the gift to be able
- 28:12Speaker 1: to do more. But if you go down there, know
- 28:15Speaker 1: what you're walking into because it's going to happen. And
- 28:18Speaker 1: guess what, everything's time that right, it is the new Hollywood.
- 28:22Speaker 1: You know the pricings, Right, y'all have a great show.
- 28:26Speaker 1: I'm comfortable now. I just gotta get y'all come by
- 28:28Speaker 1: my house and remodel my back. And there we don't
- 28:31Speaker 1: talk about that. I'm just making the I'm just making
- 28:37Speaker 1: you un you know, you know, you know you're in
- 28:39Speaker 1: these calls. And then you go bye bye. I said, Oh,
- 28:43Speaker 1: they ain't gonna give me his novel. You know what
- 28:47Speaker 1: I'm saying, No, no, no, no, but again watch this show.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Is is streaming right now. It's streaming right now on
