- 0:00This shit ain't nothing to me, man. This is Boxing
- 0:03Before Dark. Boxing. Boxing. Boxing. Back. Back.
- 0:06Back. Back. Back. Before. Before. Before. Before.
- 0:11Boxing. Boxing. Boxing. Boxing Before Dark. This
- 0:15is Boxing Before Dark. All right. Boxing Before
- 0:25Dark. Holy shit. We are back. Shanada. We have,
- 0:29this is like a two month old comment, but we
- 0:32have an angry listener. Oh, nice. I like it.
- 0:35So here, I'm going to read you the comment. I'm
- 0:38not sure who this is directed at, but it was
- 0:40on a Boxing Before Dark video. So it's one of
- 0:44the two of us. Here, here, exact words from BC355.
- 0:53How dare you comment on people from UK for thinking
- 0:56we can't be bothered to travel 40 minutes to
- 0:59see relatives. So many of us have traveled the
- 1:02world, seen so many different cultures and people
- 1:05from different environments. Most of you guys
- 1:07don't even have passports because you think that
- 1:09the US is the world. It's probably talking about
- 1:12me then. I'm not saying that you're on that list
- 1:15because I don't know you, just like you obviously
- 1:17have no idea about the average person in the
- 1:19UK. Alright. This was two months ago. So it's
- 1:27January time frame. But we definitely talked
- 1:32about it on the podcast. I remember. Of course.
- 1:35Because I went to the UK. Which is how I was
- 1:39able to speak with such confidence. Because every
- 1:42single UK person that I met. Which was in Liverpool.
- 1:46Thanks to Robbie. And how fucking outgoing he
- 1:49is. It was a lot of people in Liverpool. Thanks
- 1:52to me, just going out in Manchester and Leeds,
- 1:57it was quite a few people. And same with London.
- 2:01And the joke that I made every time rang true
- 2:05with all of them. It was, to Americans, 100 years
- 2:10is a long time. To Brits, 100 miles is a long
- 2:14way. yeah and they all thought like yeah oh shit
- 2:17like ha ha ha goddamn yankee that's exactly right
- 2:20yeah yeah yes i know i i knew it was right before
- 2:25i came but i you thank you all for confirming
- 2:27yeah i don't mean to generalize everybody in
- 2:34the uk of course that was never my intention
- 2:37but based on the myriad of people that i did
- 2:41meet traveling 40 minutes an hour is a long fucking
- 2:47way. Cause like talking to them, uh, I, when
- 2:50I was talking about going to see, uh, you bank
- 2:53Ben and I was telling them like where I was staying
- 2:58in London compared to where the fight was. And
- 3:01they're like, Oh shit, that's a lot. Like that's
- 3:03a, that's a bit of a hike even with taking the
- 3:06subway. Well, like you gotta make it work, man.
- 3:10If you really want to go to these things, you
- 3:12gotta make it work. Yeah, like I'm going to those
- 3:14fights in Yokohama and it's about it's probably
- 3:18going to be a little over two hours with trains
- 3:20and buses and stuff. And people are like, oh,
- 3:22my God, you're doing that in one day. I'm like,
- 3:25yeah, I want to see the fight. It's pretty fucking
- 3:28standard in North America. Yeah. Like I go to
- 3:32Tokyo fairly often and people are like, no, that's
- 3:35like that's a big thing to do. You have to plan
- 3:38that. It's a fucking 40 minutes on the train,
- 3:41guys. well but it's worth it to visit family
- 3:46i agree for family absolutely maybe maybe that
- 3:49is the generalization that is when they didn't
- 3:54like yeah yeah yeah yeah going for family maybe
- 3:57that's a totally different story but like going
- 3:59to like talking i've driven 40 minutes for mcdonald's
- 4:03i've driven an hour and a half for mcdonald's
- 4:06so sometimes you gotta have those fries man look
- 4:09they're so good yeah The people in Liverpool,
- 4:13I think it was 90 minutes by train from Liverpool
- 4:18to London. Yeah. And they're like, oh, that's
- 4:24way too far. I wouldn't do that. Yeah, I know
- 4:27Robbie said he hasn't been to London in years
- 4:31and years. Since he was like 13, he said. Yeah.
- 4:34Like, bro, that's not that far. And he's like
- 4:3530 -something. Yeah. Man, it's different because
- 4:40that distance that he has to travel to get to
- 4:44London, that's how far away my sister lives.
- 4:46But that's totally different, going to a fight
- 4:49in London versus going to visit your family.
- 4:54I'd probably go to the fights. Well, that's a
- 4:58lie. I used to drive four hours twice a month
- 5:01to see my family. But yeah, I think the family
- 5:05part is the... Yeah, yeah. Sorry, I know people
- 5:10in the UK visit family. Of course. I have heard
- 5:13people complain. About driving too far. And it's
- 5:17not that far. It's like what I do to get my mail.
- 5:22Yeah, there are social media people, like personalities,
- 5:27who specifically, that I know of, a British guy
- 5:32and a French guy. And both of them are like,
- 5:35you have no idea. how big this place is oh yeah
- 5:41that move to america yeah yeah there's a couple
- 5:44guys that did the same thing in canada as well
- 5:47yeah of course and they're like same same i said
- 5:50i wanted to see the rocky mountains and i'm living
- 5:53in i think he was in um saskatchewan somewhere
- 5:57i think he was in regina and it's like a 10 -hour
- 5:59drive and people are like oh yeah we'll plan
- 6:01a we'll plan like a long weekend trip and he's
- 6:05like no But my family used to go on a ski trip
- 6:08twice a year, and we drove eight and a half hours
- 6:11to get there. Like, driving to L .A. is about,
- 6:17like, it's about six hours on the road. I've
- 6:22done that for long weekends, like when we did
- 6:24Bud Madrimov. Yeah. It's pretty standard. Yeah,
- 6:30I guess priorities, and it's, like, it's also
- 6:34relative. Like, because for me... Driving six
- 6:36hours, not that big of a deal. Yeah. Yeah. But
- 6:41keeping family out of it, because that's totally
- 6:46different circumstances. But I'm super excited
- 6:49we got a comment, even if it's a pissed off one.
- 6:53Oh, we also, Pedro has been commenting on our
- 6:57stuff, too. Oh, has he? Yeah. Where do people
- 7:01comment? Because I only listen on YouTube. Yeah,
- 7:04they're commenting on YouTube. Ah, shit. I'm
- 7:06just too early, I guess. I got my notification
- 7:09turned on. But I think that's going to do it
- 7:13for our unrelated stuff. We were talking last
- 7:15time, as we shift away from Punch, who has been
- 7:19accepted by his troop, they took his plushie
- 7:24away. They gave it to another orphaned baby.
- 7:27Oh, nice. Not baboon or macaque. I think it was
- 7:31a chimpanzee. Okay. But they gave it to another
- 7:36baby that needs a cuddle friend. And as we shift
- 7:42our animal focus, the pygmy hippo that was born
- 7:46here in Arizona a few weeks ago is named Jelly
- 7:49Bean. That's a perfect name for pygmy hippos.
- 7:52Yes, it's very, very cute. There's already the
- 7:57online discussion of Jelly Bean versus Mudang.
- 8:00Mudang. Yep. Of course. Like, why do we have
- 8:03to pit women against each other? Why can't we
- 8:06just build each other up? Just be friends. Yeah,
- 8:08dude. Fellow lady hippos being homies. What's
- 8:14the problem? Named after food. Is that what mudang
- 8:18is? Mudang's like fatty pork bowls, yeah. Oh,
- 8:21fuck. Man, there's a dish in Korea. It's called
- 8:26eodang, and it's like fish cake. oh okay so not
- 8:30quite the same but then like when i heard mudang
- 8:34i was like huh is that like beef cake just uh
- 8:39dumb i think it's pork i think it's pork um but
- 8:45we'll keep up with jellybean see what sort of
- 8:48shenanigans she gets up to um but into the boxing
- 8:52news finally well is it The IBF has stripped
- 8:58Jannebeck. I'm trying to think. Finally, because
- 9:06like technically, yes, he did pop for PEDs. But
- 9:11the medical circumstances behind it, if we take
- 9:14Team Jannebeck at their word. I think they did
- 9:19release some medical records to the Boxing Commission
- 9:24or whatever it is. So he was in the hospital
- 9:28for something with stroke -like symptoms. And
- 9:35that one he popped for is... If I understand
- 9:41the science properly, and I might not, it helps
- 9:44your body use sugar more efficiently. So I don't
- 9:53really know how that one helps with a stroke.
- 9:56But I am not a medical doctor, so maybe that's
- 9:59super obvious to people who know stuff. I don't
- 10:02know. Or maybe it was just him trying to cover
- 10:06up that he was healing from being in the hospital
- 10:09and took steroids. Using sugar more efficiently,
- 10:14that does sound like you're cutting weight. Yeah.
- 10:23This still smells like, oh, dang, still a little
- 10:26fishy, but. Yeah. But if he really had a stroke,
- 10:31I fucking hate when boxers go back in the ring
- 10:34after stuff like that. Yes. Major medical issues.
- 10:38Dog, if you genuinely had a stroke, as you claim,
- 10:42it's time to call it quits. Yeah. Like you've
- 10:46made a lot of money. It's not worth dying. Right.
- 10:51Open a gym. Kazakhstan, like, fucking team up
- 10:54with Triple G. Get another energy drink out there.
- 10:59There's other shit you can do, man. Yeah. You
- 11:03don't have to not work. You just need to not
- 11:06get punched in the head for a living. Or cut,
- 11:10like, 30 fucking pounds to make weight for a
- 11:13fight, like, two or three times a year. That's
- 11:17true, too. Yeah. I guess we'll have to keep watching
- 11:22to see how this shapes out. Like, not necessarily.
- 11:25Like, the IBF, they've stripped him, so that
- 11:29ship has sailed. WBO gave him that retroactive
- 11:33suspension. The Kazakh Commission gave him that
- 11:36retroactive suspension. Of, like, one year, which
- 11:39he was probably going to be off anyway. Right.
- 11:42If he had a stroke, like, a year is... Not a
- 11:47lot of time to be taken off. Like, you should
- 11:48be taking more, if not indefinite. Like, yeah,
- 11:52exactly. But yeah, we'll see how this shapes
- 11:56out, because things are still fishy here. Frank
- 12:02Sanchez, his knee was inflamed, I think was the
- 12:08word. So his fight with Richard Torres, that
- 12:12was the co -main for Fundora Thurman. That fight
- 12:16has been postponed. Brian Mendoza versus Yohannes
- 12:20Taez is now the co -main. Mendoza's fun. Yes.
- 12:27Like, that should be a good co -main. Probably
- 12:30better than Richard Torres, to be honest. Mendoza
- 12:35is fun. I just don't like the heavyweights very
- 12:37much. Shenada biases. They don't throw any punches.
- 12:46I think Richard Torres would have thrown a lot.
- 12:50He is more active. If anyone was going to make
- 12:53it stinky, it would have been Frank. Not just
- 12:57because he's Cuban, but also because his knee,
- 13:00it's a known issue. Yeah, it's a known issue.
- 13:03And that he's a Cuban like 33, so he's probably
- 13:08like 40. Exactly. But Brian Mendoza is fun, as
- 13:15you put it. Yoannis Tejas, I don't remember if
- 13:19he's been back since he lost to Bas Baru, but
- 13:24he did give a spirited performance even in that
- 13:27loss. So this is not a bad comeback for Tejas.
- 13:32It's a winnable comeback. Yeah, this one isn't
- 13:35like a foregone conclusion or anything. I think
- 13:38it'll be a fun co -main. I think it'll be pretty
- 13:40close. Yeah, it should be competitive. Michaela
- 13:45Mayer has parted ways with Top Rank. She's now
- 13:49signed with Most Valuable Promotions. MVPW, I
- 13:55think, is the subsidiary that they're using.
- 14:00Oh, okay. I was like, what the fuck's the W?
- 14:04But yeah, yeah. It's Watermelon. I'm just slow.
- 14:11What was nice was Michaela Mayer took to social
- 14:15media and she's been saying like, I'm beyond
- 14:19grateful for the time I had with Top Rank. It
- 14:22was like the most wonderful 10 years ever. I'm
- 14:25grateful to Todd Duboff for taking a chance on
- 14:29me. I would not be who I am or in the position
- 14:33that I'm in without Top Rank. It's just nice
- 14:37to see somebody like parting ways with a promoter.
- 14:40And not saying, like, fuck that snake. Yeah,
- 14:43yeah. Well, and MVP is the place for the women.
- 14:48It is, absolutely. They get the women big fights,
- 14:52and they have fucking most of the good women
- 14:55boxers right now. So it should be easier to make
- 14:59some big fights. The only one missing from, like,
- 15:03the major women that are not signed with MVP,
- 15:07Clarissa Shields and Gabby. I don't know who
- 15:11else. Lauren Price, maybe? I think she's with
- 15:14Boxer. Yeah, I'm not sure. I don't pay that much
- 15:19attention. Is Caroline Dubois MVP now? She is
- 15:23now. Yeah. I think this is a good move. And like
- 15:29you said, it's nice to see they're not burning
- 15:31bridges. Yeah, I think they'll do business again.
- 15:36MVP and top rank. I think they will anyway. And
- 15:41MVP, they don't really have a TV deal, but they
- 15:45seem to be able to get their boxers spots. MVPW
- 15:48has a TV deal with ESPN. Oh, do they? Yes. Yeah,
- 15:53we talked about it, where it was like they probably
- 15:56don't have to pay as much because it's women's
- 15:58fights. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But they'll still pay
- 16:02a decent premium, at least. Top Rank needs some
- 16:06sort of broadcast deal. Speaking of top ranks
- 16:11woes, Teofimo Lopez tweeted, then deleted within
- 16:17a span of like two minutes. Quote, I may never
- 16:21fight again. His words. I mean, the almost instant
- 16:26deletion, I assume this is just Teemo, Teemo?
- 16:30Teo having a bad day. Yeah, that was something
- 16:34I didn't put into Discord was like, I know. What
- 16:39a depressive episode feels like. And I want to
- 16:42type into Twitter, like, I would prefer to set
- 16:45myself on fire than have to fucking deal with
- 16:47anything right now. Yeah. Well, and I'm sure
- 16:53his dad had just gotten finished chewing him
- 16:55out or something. My dad was a piece of shit,
- 16:58too, Teofimo. If you need to talk about it, bro,
- 17:00I'm here for you. Hardshell tacos. That's the
- 17:04whole fucking point of Hardshell Tacos. I don't
- 17:07know. I've said it a million times. I just feel
- 17:09bad for Tio. Yeah, I do too. I will still, if
- 17:16I ever get a chance to meet him and shake his
- 17:18hand, I will shake his hand with the Zoloft pill
- 17:20in my hand to pass it to him. I'm like, you want
- 17:25this. I'm telling you, you want this. Moving
- 17:31on to... Jordan Martinez, the guy that got the
- 17:36draw with Arturo Popoca. I think he goes by Cardenas
- 17:42now. But he got the draw. He signs with Matchroom.
- 17:46So, fuck yeah, dude. Local kid making it big.
- 17:53He has a greasy fucking box rec photo. Oh, my
- 17:56God. Have you seen it? Yes, I have. His... But
- 18:02that's... Matchroom's a big signing. That's good
- 18:05for him. It's a social media video that goes
- 18:10around. A guy is getting his mustache trimmed
- 18:15up, and the voiceover is like a fake cholo barber.
- 18:22It's like, we're going to get you looking all
- 18:24firme. Doing the fake whistle. That's exactly
- 18:31what he looks like. That is what he looks like.
- 18:34That guy getting his... Doesn't look bad, but
- 18:38that is just the most... It's a look. Yeah. It
- 18:42is a look. Speaking of looks, Ashton Silva is
- 18:48coming back. He will be fighting, I think...
- 18:51I don't know if he signed with MF Pro or Queensberry,
- 18:54but he's going to be fighting on the Wilder Chisora
- 18:58undercard. So, good to see him back. I gotta
- 19:02see a picture. Oh, nice, yeah. I recognize his
- 19:05picture. Yeah, good to see him make moves. They
- 19:08have quite a few Americans on that undercard.
- 19:10Are they trying to make it like a America versus
- 19:14US thing? US versus UK? So, like, would that
- 19:18be US, UK? Would that be You Suck? Yes. Yes,
- 19:24it would. You suck because you won't travel 45
- 19:30minutes to see your family. That's not true because
- 19:35you absolutely would. But yeah, you know what?
- 19:38I think that would be a solid way to build the
- 19:43card out. Yeah, I mean, people really get into
- 19:49that. I'm not very patriotic, so. The only time
- 19:58that it comes into play for me is when I don't
- 20:02know who I'm going to cheer for. So let's weigh
- 20:06our options. Are they American? No, then I'm
- 20:10not cheering for them. Are they Latino? Yes,
- 20:14then I'm cheering for them. But it just goes
- 20:18down like the flow chart. And that's only if
- 20:22it's like I don't. Wilder, Chizora, man, I'm
- 20:28going for the American, of course. I have to.
- 20:30Nah, I'm backing Chizora. Yeah, well, so what
- 20:34if I think he's actually going to win? I'm still
- 20:36going with Wilder. Ignore the evidence of your
- 20:43eyes and ears. I mean, that one's just going
- 20:47to be fun. Should be a good time. That is one
- 20:51of the few heavyweight fights that I'm like,
- 20:53this is just going to be entertaining. Hopefully.
- 20:56But I can't see Chizora not making it entertaining.
- 21:01Chizora is always entertaining. Usually entertaining.
- 21:05He's put on some stinkers. Yeah, but I didn't
- 21:08see those, so they don't count. Oh, okay then.
- 21:10I was going to say, his fights with Dillian White
- 21:13were just bad. Hot, hot garbage. Yeah, I don't
- 21:20think I saw those. His fight with Usyk? Not very
- 21:23entertaining. He tried his best to make it entertaining.
- 21:29Chizora sounding like a dying wildebeest in the
- 21:32corner was pretty entertaining. Yeah. In the
- 21:36Dillion White fights, he did a lot of taunting
- 21:40and showboating. I think at one point, he had
- 21:43Dillion White... They had tied up, and then he
- 21:47kind of got over to the top of them, and so,
- 21:49like, Dillian White was, like, bent over, and
- 21:52the ref was coming over, and then Derek Chisora
- 21:54just, like, thrust it on his head. Oh! Yeah,
- 21:58so that was pretty funny. Oh, man. Bam! Moving
- 22:07up to Bantamweight. Has me stressed the fuck
- 22:12out. Aiming for WBA champ Antonio Vargas. Because
- 22:19they recessed my boy again. They give him no
- 22:23time. What do you mean? So they brought him out
- 22:26of recess and then put him back? Yeah, so he
- 22:30is injured. He had to postpone his next fight.
- 22:35And so they instantly put him back in recess.
- 22:38They give Seiya Sutsumi zero time. Because the
- 22:42last time they recessed him for his eye, they
- 22:46put him in recess like a month after his fight,
- 22:51I think. And he fought within that same year,
- 22:56for sure. I think it was within seven months.
- 23:00Which was the Donair fight, right? Yeah, other
- 23:04champions don't get recessed like that. No, they
- 23:07don't. I don't know why they're fucking with
- 23:11Seiya so bad. Like, I don't understand it. Because
- 23:17he had to postpone his fight. But he fought Donair,
- 23:21what, in February? I think so. Like, it wasn't
- 23:25long ago. And... This next fight that they were
- 23:30talking about with Vargas, he had to postpone,
- 23:34but champions postpone fights all the fucking
- 23:37time and don't get recessed. I can only say that
- 23:41at least they didn't strip him. I guess, but...
- 23:45It's a small consolation, but... Anyways, if
- 23:50he has to come back to BAM, I think the Tsutsumi
- 23:54train might get derailed. Yeah. I'm still gonna
- 23:59ride with him, but it's not gonna be fun. Now
- 24:05you know how I feel about Wilder vs. Chizora.
- 24:09It's not like I don't cheer for people I know
- 24:12are losing all the time, Leo. Sometimes it's
- 24:16just what you must do. Stay aboard the ship as
- 24:20it goes down. I can't abandon my guy. And I love
- 24:28Bam. Like, it's not like I'm cheering against
- 24:32Bam, but... I haven't met Bam in person, so...
- 24:38He's very unassuming. Yeah, he seems like a really
- 24:44nice guy. He is. He is a nice guy. And if he
- 24:48didn't have tattoos on his face, you would think...
- 24:51Oh my god, they're so bad. They are, but if he
- 24:54didn't have those, you'd think he's like a teenager.
- 24:58Yeah, he's kind of baby -faced. Man, sticking
- 25:03with your guy, though, even though he might end
- 25:07up in a position, a really poor position, it's...
- 25:12Can we get somebody to point out to Nova Scotia
- 25:20Boxing? Like, look, this is how you do it. Alright?
- 25:24You ride with your... You made your pick. And
- 25:27you fucking ride with it. And that's it. Or,
- 25:31if you want to jump off, then admit it and say,
- 25:35I was wrong. I made a bad choice. And then look
- 25:41at that. Well, and some of us cheer with our
- 25:44hearts and not with our heads. And that's fine.
- 25:47That's part of boxing. Yeah, like with Barrios
- 25:53vs. Ryan. If we didn't put the draw option out
- 25:56there, I would have been with Barrios. Just because,
- 25:59like, I would like to see Ryan lose to a fucking
- 26:06shitter. That would just be too funny. I want
- 26:11the Rolly rematch, and I want Rolly to just do
- 26:15the same thing. That is actually a good news
- 26:19point that I forgot about. Apparently... take
- 26:24social media posts for whatever they're worth.
- 26:27Haney Garcia too is in the works and it's in,
- 26:32it's in the, it's going well. The negotiations
- 26:36are going well, but that flies in the face of
- 26:39what we heard previously of Haney versus Raleigh.
- 26:43That was supposed to, that was allegedly in late
- 26:46stage, serious negotiations. So I don't know.
- 26:51I don't know what to make of this. I mean, Garcia
- 26:54must be more money. Absolutely. So it wouldn't
- 26:58surprise me if they pivot. Like, if they can.
- 27:02But if Haney fights Rawley, I would like to see
- 27:07Ryan fight Lewis Crocker. Just so they could
- 27:11do the little tournament -ish. Yeah. Yeah, and
- 27:15unify. Yep. I guess it doesn't really matter
- 27:20which way you do it, though. Roley versus Crocker
- 27:24could also do the same thing. That's like the
- 27:26consolation bracket. But that's kind of what
- 27:33they rate, so whatever. I'd watch it. Yeah, I
- 27:39would too. And not just because I'm a goddamn
- 27:41filthy neckbeard degenerate that never leaves
- 27:46my office because I'm watching fight sports all
- 27:50the goddamn time. Oscar Duarte, Angel Fierro
- 27:56in negotiations for the Zerto Benavidez undercard.
- 28:04That's a fucking fireworks fight. Yeah. Yeah,
- 28:09I actually kind of really like Oscar Duarte.
- 28:13Yeah, he's solid. And he's action, which is basically
- 28:20all I ask for. Fiero is an all -action type of
- 28:24dude, too. Yeah. Nah, that would be a good undercard
- 28:30fight. That is a straight -up war of attrition.
- 28:33Yeah, and that would be a good setup for Zerdo
- 28:37Benavidez, I think. I agree. Luis Neri will be
- 28:46fighting in April against, I think, this... It's
- 28:50probably top two, not two, your absolute most
- 28:55favorite fighters ever. Jean -Brieuc Castanero?
- 29:02Yeah, yeah. So I have made a new friend here
- 29:06in Japan. She's from Brazil. And she said she
- 29:09wants to come to that bar to a boxing match because
- 29:12I took her there on a different night and she
- 29:14had a lot of fun. And she's like, I want to see
- 29:16the... The boxing atmosphere. And I was like,
- 29:18okay, next card that I'm definitely watching
- 29:21that's not in Japan will go. So these guys are
- 29:25fighting in Kyrgyzstan. Why? Because it's the
- 29:30Kamedas. They're doing a three -day thing. Like
- 29:35a fight festival type of shit? Yeah, and they
- 29:37always put music in between. In Kyrgyzstan. And
- 29:42this is the Saturday fight in Japan. It might
- 29:47be Sunday morning. But anyways, I told her I
- 29:50would book us two seats at the bar for this one.
- 29:54And I was like, you'll love it because it's two
- 29:57fucking villains fighting and everyone hates
- 30:00both of them. Two villains of Japan. Yeah, Louis
- 30:05Neary is hated in Japan and John Riel Casamero
- 30:09is hated in Japan. And I'm like, the fight's
- 30:12probably going to be shit. Because Casamero has
- 30:15looked like ass. Yeah, JRC is hot garbage. He
- 30:20has been for quite some time. Yeah. Neary, I
- 30:23think, bops him. Bad as fuck. Yeah, Neary's gonna
- 30:26knock him out. Like, I'm gonna have to ride with
- 30:29Neary on this one, which hurts me to say, but
- 30:31it's gonna happen. Lesser of two evils situation.
- 30:36But, I was like, this has all the boxing drama.
- 30:40Like, we're gonna have to go for drinks before,
- 30:42so I can... tell you who the Kamedas are, why
- 30:46they're in Kyrgyzstan and they don't promote
- 30:49in Japan very often, who Louis Neri is and what
- 30:53he did, and who John Riel Casamero is and why
- 30:56we hate him. So. Don't forget those. For her!
- 31:00It's going to be a multi -day lesson on boxing
- 31:06villain history. You've got to catch up on the
- 31:08lore. Luis Neri beating Shinsuke Yamanaka back
- 31:13in the day. Blowing weight twice. Popping for
- 31:17pads. Popping for pads the first time. Getting
- 31:20banned by the JBC. I think he's unbanned. Getting
- 31:26banned by the government of Japan. Right, yeah.
- 31:30From ever being allowed back into Japan. And
- 31:33then having it lifted so that Inoue could beat
- 31:36his ass. Yep. Yep. There's a lot of story here.
- 31:41This fight is not going to be that good, but
- 31:43I think it's a great one if she wants to go watch
- 31:46one boxing match. It's... This is, I think, as
- 31:51close to professional wrestling as boxing can
- 31:57get. Yeah. There's just so much drama around
- 32:00these two fighters and the promoters. And just
- 32:05everything. Because she's going to ask, why are
- 32:08they in Kyrgyzstan? What do you mean? Poki Kameda
- 32:11is really working on, I don't, Kyrgyzstani? Like,
- 32:17is it their own language? Yes, Kyrgyz. Okay.
- 32:22I wasn't sure what it was called. He's really
- 32:26been working on it, so it's going to be a Japanese
- 32:28dude giving a speech in Kyrgyzstan. It's... Wonderful.
- 32:35It's going to be fucking great. That's what dreams
- 32:38are made of. If she is not even casually interested
- 32:43in boxing, but she listens because she's my friend,
- 32:47so this is going to be perfect for that, I think.
- 32:51Right, like I said, the storyline is too good.
- 32:55So it's you don't have to even really know how
- 32:59the fight plays out. Like when I was a kid and
- 33:01I watched wrestling a lot, I got to watch like
- 33:04Monday Night Raw, Thursday Night Smackdown. And
- 33:08then the storylines conclude on the pay -per
- 33:10-views that happen on like Saturday or Sunday.
- 33:13I never got to watch those. So I never saw how
- 33:16the storylines concluded. Or who won. You had
- 33:18to figure it out from context the next week.
- 33:21Exactly. So this is what an instance where you
- 33:25get to see how the storyline finishes in a way.
- 33:29Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Anyways, I'm super excited
- 33:33about that. Yeah, it's really fun. Oh man, speaking
- 33:39of fun. Bare Knuckle Boxing signs Victor Ortiz
- 33:44and John Molina. I'm a little bit more concerned
- 33:48about Ortiz. Yeah. He's been out for a while.
- 33:54He's had a rough go of it. Molina has a lot of
- 33:59mileage on the clock, for sure. But, I don't
- 34:03know. I feel like he retired much sooner. At
- 34:08a better time, at least, than Ortiz did. So,
- 34:12regardless. The Retirement League. Continues
- 34:16to pad its roster. Yeah, I really don't like
- 34:22bare knuckle boxing. I don't either. I don't
- 34:25watch it at all. I just, it's kind of gross.
- 34:29Quite. Oh, speaking of gross. Tommy the Hitman
- 34:37Hearns is under guardianship and conservatorship.
- 34:44Yeah, I think Tommy's been going really downhill
- 34:47quickly. His health, yes. Yeah. Wasn't there...
- 34:51They kind of said it wasn't real, but wasn't
- 34:55there rumors he wandered away and was a little
- 34:58lost? Like they were looking for him? I hadn't
- 35:01heard of that. Maybe I have the wrong retired
- 35:06boxer. You know how I am with names. Yeah. But
- 35:10there was... Just let me Google it. While you're
- 35:19looking, you know how there's those shitty prediction
- 35:24markets where you can gamble on real life events
- 35:27and stuff? I really don't like those. I don't
- 35:30either. One way, you don't have to gamble on
- 35:34Tommy Hearns' life. Because that's just fucking
- 35:36disgusting. Man, and now I'm about to follow
- 35:41it up with something that's also pretty scummy.
- 35:43This is a good time. buy some autograph merch
- 35:46okay so i i had the right the right guy but it's
- 35:53been reported as false but last december there
- 35:57was a social media like tommy hearns has gone
- 36:01missing yada yada yada that's crazy i've never
- 36:05heard of the the rumors was he's dementia had
- 36:12gotten worse and he had wandered away from home
- 36:14and nobody knew exactly where he was. But they
- 36:18came out and said that that was not true. So
- 36:20maybe I'm just spreading rumors. When was that?
- 36:23December? Yeah, last December. Jeez. Kind of
- 36:29makes you wonder, though. I mean, maybe being
- 36:33under conservatorship is not the worst thing.
- 36:36No. If his health is that bad. Right. As long
- 36:39as it's good people taking care of them. And
- 36:42it might not be. Not like a Britney Spears situation.
- 36:46Yeah. Yeah. But get your autograph memorabilia
- 36:52now because it's going to go up like at least
- 36:5610 times in cost. Yeah. Well, if he's getting
- 37:00that sick, he's not going to be making new autographs.
- 37:06Just a very good friend of mine. He's a big time
- 37:10Tommy Hearns fan. It's like his favorite fighter
- 37:12ever. Not a bad choice. Every year, every other
- 37:17year or something, I would get him a Tommy Hearns
- 37:19autograph something. Like the baseball cards
- 37:23that are of boxers or big 8x10 prints. I got
- 37:29one that was Sugar Ray and Tommy Hearns and another
- 37:34one that was Roberto Duran and Tommy Hearns.
- 37:37That's crazy. Yeah. The one that was Marvin Hagler,
- 37:42Tommy Hearns, was like $1 ,500. Yeah. Because
- 37:46Marvin Hagler. Yeah, yeah. I'm not saying buy
- 37:54the stuff now so that you can flip it later.
- 37:56I'm saying buy it now so you can have it for
- 37:59yourself. Yeah, it's sad to see your heroes get
- 38:04old. Yeah. Because how old is Tommy now? He must
- 38:10be like my dad's age. 60s? 70s? 70s? 67. That's
- 38:17too young to need conservatorship. It's too bad.
- 38:20But with a lot of... With boxing mileage, though?
- 38:23Yeah. His brain is probably like 90 -something.
- 38:26Yeah, that's true. Man. Just... I don't know.
- 38:34If you're the praying type. Pray for the Hearns
- 38:37family. Moving to your boy, Katsuma Akitsugi
- 38:45has been added to the Tenshin Asakawa Juan Francisco
- 38:49Estrada undercard. I'm gonna have to buy a ticket
- 38:55that Tenshin is headlining. And that annoys me.
- 38:59You could leave before the main event. I'm not
- 39:03gonna do that. It's Estrada. yeah but yeah no
- 39:08i'm super excited akitsugi's been on the pro
- 39:11box circuit for a while he's been living in america
- 39:14a lot longer than i originally thought i looked
- 39:17into him a little bit when they announced this
- 39:19he's been trying to get his permanent residency
- 39:22in the states so he hasn't been home for years
- 39:25so Akatsuki was supposed to fight Lover. That
- 39:30was pretty deep into talks. And I was super excited
- 39:33about that. So I was a little bummed when it
- 39:36got cancelled. We talked about it last week.
- 39:39Yeah, it got cancelled for a good reason. Because
- 39:42Provox went out of their way to make a deal with
- 39:45Tekken so that Akatsuki could fight in Japan
- 39:49and visit his family. According to the Boxing
- 39:52Scene Podcast. That does sound like something
- 39:55that they would do for him. Yeah, and I'm super
- 39:58excited for them. And I'm super excited to see
- 40:02them live. It's going to be great. And if Provox
- 40:05can make some deals with Tekken, I think that'll
- 40:07be big for them. Oh yeah, they can bring Japanese
- 40:12fighters over, send their guys over to Japan.
- 40:16Yeah, get the Provox name in front of the Japanese,
- 40:21because it's free on YouTube here. Yeah, absolutely.
- 40:26Yeah, and I don't know that that many Japanese
- 40:29boxing fans know about Pro Box, because why would
- 40:31they? Right. So I think this is going to work
- 40:35out really well for everybody. I'm super excited
- 40:37about this. That would be a good entry into the
- 40:42Japanese market, just in general. Yeah, and like
- 40:46you said, Tekken probably wants to send some
- 40:51of their guys to America, get them in front of
- 40:53an American audience. Yeah. That's always a big
- 40:56problem. The problem that they're going to come
- 41:00across, and it's just Americans being Americans,
- 41:05like, if you send Japanese fighters over, you
- 41:08better send a good interpreter. Otherwise, you
- 41:12better be taking your boys to some classes for
- 41:14English, because people get fucking annoyed hearing
- 41:17a foreign language here. It's stupid. Yeah, well,
- 41:21people are dicks. Yeah, it's stupid, but... There's...
- 41:26I think most of the boxers that are really trying
- 41:29to go big work on their English. You don't see
- 41:34it because they don't want to do the interviews
- 41:36in English because that must be fucking stressful,
- 41:39trying to speak a second language in front of
- 41:41a crowd. After a fight, too. Yeah. Like, Seiya
- 41:45Satsumi... is really working on his english he
- 41:49gave a really short speech but a speech in english
- 41:53at the ring awards nice i don't know if you saw
- 41:56it but and uh even before that when i met him
- 42:00like i tried to speak japanese and fucked it
- 42:03up because i was fangirling and he really tried
- 42:06with his english that's really cool it was great
- 42:09yeah yeah because he could have just like signed
- 42:12my shit and left but right he spent like a whole
- 42:15minute Trying to talk to me. It was really nice.
- 42:18Anyways, I'm super excited to see Akatsuki. Death
- 42:21by a thousand cuts. I don't know how you shorten
- 42:24that nickname, but I want that to be his nickname.
- 42:27The Japanese firecracker or whatever is fine,
- 42:31I guess. What if it's just a thousand cuts? There
- 42:37must be a cool name for that torture. Right?
- 42:42Yeah, there has to be. Yeah. Or something. There
- 42:46has to be like a. A short. Yeah. Way. Yeah. Last
- 42:51bit. Oleksandr Usyk has outlined his last three
- 42:58fights. Number one. Rico Verhoeven. Number two.
- 43:03Nobody cares. Right. No. Number two. The winner
- 43:08of Fabio Wardley versus Daniel Dubois. Not bad.
- 43:11If it's Wardley. Nice. If it's Dubois, boo. But
- 43:16you can't say you're fighting Wardley if Dubois
- 43:19beats him. Yes, that's true. And then the Fury
- 43:23Trilogy. I don't want to see that at all. I would
- 43:29swap Fury Trilogy with Wilder if he beats Chisora.
- 43:39Same way with, like, if Dubois beats Wardley,
- 43:43I would drop that from my next fights list. I
- 43:48would like to see his last fight be against somebody
- 43:51younger. Caballel? Huh? Yeah. Like, just somebody
- 43:57in the next generation and do a passing of the
- 44:01torch. Because Usyk Fury, nobody gives a shit
- 44:06now. You don't need a trilogy for that. I think
- 44:10it's just money. I know it's just money, but
- 44:13I don't care. Usyk's made so much fucking money.
- 44:19Yeah. I did see Usyk's English getting better
- 44:24has made his funny personality come out much
- 44:29easier. Because he's always been funny. But I
- 44:33saw he's like, I don't want to fight a Tauma.
- 44:35I don't want to break his spirit. He's a young
- 44:40guy. I don't want to ruin him. Yeah, that was
- 44:43the way that I had heard it, was I don't want
- 44:46to ruin him. Damn, dude. That's strong words,
- 44:52but what interests me is that all of this I don't
- 44:57want to break him type of shit, Caballel does
- 45:01not seem to be in the same conversation. No.
- 45:06To me, it's odd. Yeah, I haven't heard Usyk say
- 45:11his name at all. I would drop. Because Rico Verhoeven...
- 45:19It's for the title. God. Gross. If it wasn't
- 45:25for the title, if it was some exhibition, whatever.
- 45:28Go get your money. This is bullshit. But you
- 45:33get to have your bullshit. Then you have to fight
- 45:37Caballel. That's the mandate. I don't mind the
- 45:42Wardley Dubois winner. Whatever. Fine. Yeah,
- 45:46fine. That's what I've... But Caballel needs
- 45:50his shot. He's earned his shot. Yeah, he's been
- 45:55waiting for fucking ever. Fury Trilogy, as washed
- 45:59as he is, I might... This is like a personal
- 46:04bias gonna be on very clear display. As washed
- 46:08as he is, even if Wilder lost to Chizora, I would
- 46:11rather see Usyk fight Wilder than fight the trilogy
- 46:15with Fury. Yeah. But I don't really want to see
- 46:21either of those fights. If I had to pick. Yeah,
- 46:24if I had to pick between those two, I would pick
- 46:27Wilder. But I don't want those two to be the
- 46:31conversation. No. Wardley. Itauma. Kabayel, school
- 46:39the next generation of heavyweights and then
- 46:42drop the belts and say, have fun, boys. Your
- 46:46daddy's gonna be over here. Yeah, exactly. But
- 46:51beating Fury again does nothing. No. Beating
- 46:55Dubois again does nothing for me either. Honestly,
- 46:59after he said these three fights... I kind of
- 47:03hope Rico catches him. He's not going to win,
- 47:06but I hope he knocks Usyk on his ass once. It's
- 47:11not going to happen. Entirely wishful thinking.
- 47:14But it would be amazing. What, is he going to
- 47:18get... Rico's going to catch Usyk with a body
- 47:21shot that's going to get ruled a low blow instead?
- 47:25Maybe. I just wanted to throw that one back in
- 47:31there. But yeah, that's all we got on the news,
- 47:34though. Unless something else came up. I don't
- 47:41think so. No. Yeah, I'm not. I can't think of
- 47:45anything. You've been pretty on the news. I do
- 47:48my best. All right. Let me put some info in here.
- 47:54Let's see. Social media stuff. LVX MediaNet.

- 50:01It's pretty light. Eye of the Tiger on DAZN.
- 50:05This one was in Montreal. There were four fights
- 50:10that I was tracking here. Steve Claggett gets
- 50:14a stoppage in two over, like, who gives a shit?
- 50:1821 -12 -2. Alejandro Frias. John Orobio gets
- 50:26a stoppage in five. Lennar Perez gets a UD win
- 50:32over Isaac Chalemba. I was saying on social media,
- 50:40I had said, I posed it as an open question. Should
- 50:45we be maybe dialing back our expectations of
- 50:49Perez? He dominated every round. There's no question
- 50:53that he swept it. But this is still Isaac Chalemba.
- 50:57This is the type of dude you should be getting
- 50:59out. Yeah. I mean, Chalemba has a chin. Better
- 51:05in tactics, too. Yeah. But it's not like he can't
- 51:10be knocked out. I don't know. Aya the Tiger,
- 51:17they're always mismatches. You can't tell shit
- 51:20about their fighters. like Perez looks impressive
- 51:26like he's a cruiserweight he's tall he's really
- 51:29muscular so like he looks the part but like Isaac
- 51:35Chalemba dude you should be mopping the floor
- 51:38with this guy if you are what Eye of the Tiger
- 51:42says you are anyway but Eye of the Tiger never
- 51:46challenges their fighters so you can't tell like
- 51:50yeah you're right you don't know what somebody's
- 51:53made of until they have to show you. Because
- 51:57if he was dominating the entire fight, maybe
- 52:01he just didn't want to take any chances getting
- 52:03hit with a big one. You know? Yeah. Which is
- 52:09fair. It's cruiserweight. Anybody can knock you
- 52:13out. Chalemba, though? He wasn't even really
- 52:17that much of a power threat at 175. That was
- 52:21some years ago. Now he's at 200? I don't know.
- 52:2515 fights in. We know how boxing records tend
- 52:31to be a little bit padded when you're at the
- 52:33beginning stages of your career. So this is a
- 52:36step up -ish? Half step up to a veteran? I mean,
- 52:45it's a name I recognize, which is the first one
- 52:48on his box rec I recognize. Yeah, I'm trying
- 52:52to, like, throw my bone here. Like, what good
- 52:55can we take away from this? Because, like you
- 52:58said, Eye of the Tiger, they just are allergic
- 53:01to challenging their fighters. I never tell anyone
- 53:07to watch Eye of the Tiger cards. And people give
- 53:11me shit. They're like, you're Canadian, and they're
- 53:13Canadian, and you should... I'm like, but they
- 53:15suck. I guess if you want to watch knockouts,
- 53:19because there's always knockouts on Eye of the
- 53:21Tiger cards. Of the four that we were tracking,
- 53:23three were knockouts. Yeah. But they're one -sided
- 53:27mismatches. Oh, man. Speaking of one -sided mismatches,
- 53:34Stephen Butler knocks out Ramadan Husseini in
- 53:40the second. I think I have a post, a video clip
- 53:44of that up on Twitter. That was where I was trying
- 53:48to get people to shit on Lennar Perez with me.
- 53:52Nice. But that's it for that card. Moving to
- 53:59Saturday, March 7th, Pro Box. This wasn't a Pro
- 54:03Box proper card. This was, well, it was another
- 54:07card that got picked up by Pro Box. I'm just
- 54:09really, really on the ball today. Two fights
- 54:14that I kept track of. Angel Ureña gets the UD
- 54:19over Roy Casanova. I only really kept track because
- 54:24Casanova. But it was a really fun fight. Ureña,
- 54:28I think he got cut. And Casanova was really going
- 54:33for it. Ended up scoring a late knockdown. And
- 54:40Haciel Amador. beats Pedro Delgado in the main
- 54:44event. I think that was for a regional, WBA regional
- 54:49title. And then the Ureña, I think, was a WBC
- 54:55regional title. This was the card in Mexico,
- 55:00right? Correct. Yeah. It was fine. It was Mexican
- 55:06sluggers doing what they did. It was fun, but
- 55:11I didn't really recognize any names or anything.
- 55:15And the professionalism continues. Zufa Boxing
- 55:244 at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Moving up the
- 55:31bill. The first ever majority draw in Zufa history.
- 55:37We know how prestigious that designation is.
- 55:41And then they had another majority draw. So,
- 55:44two for one special. Vlad Panin stops Shannard
- 55:50Bunch in the ninth. Not bad. Not bad of a fight.
- 55:55It was, as it went down the stretch, they kept,
- 55:59they started to bring up and continue to refer
- 56:03a lot to Shannard Bunch's personal life difficulties.
- 56:07I think they said his father was murdered not
- 56:11that long ago. That's crazy. Yeah. What are you
- 56:17doing in the ring right now, bro? That is way
- 56:22more important. But, I mean, you gotta make money
- 56:27somehow. I guess. Moving up. Ricardo Salas stops
- 56:34Jesus Saracha. Ha, jokes. Saracho is his name.
- 56:41They said his name wrong every time on the broadcast.
- 56:44Every single time. He is not Tabasco sauce. Because,
- 56:51like the Zufa, it's Zufa promotions or whatever.
- 56:58But it's Max Kellerman, Joe Tessitore, and Andre
- 57:02Ward. Andre, I'll give you a pass. The other
- 57:05two, I don't want to hear anybody ever say a
- 57:08fucking thing to me about mispronouncing names
- 57:10ever again. That's Max Kellerman and Joe Tessitore.
- 57:17Yeah, like, Andre Ward is the boxer, so he gets
- 57:24a pass at being a little less professional with
- 57:26names and stuff. Yeah. But those other two, it's
- 57:29their fucking job to say people's names right.
- 57:33Like, you have fighter meetings where you talk
- 57:36about this stuff. It's not a hard name. Sriracha.
- 57:41Yeah. Not hard. Like, it's not like one of those
- 57:45Czech names. The Thai names are fucking ridiculous
- 57:48sometimes. Yeah. Like, Sriracha is not a hard
- 57:53name to say. Yeah. Also, I know this is not the
- 57:58point of our podcast. He has a cool ass tattoo.
- 58:02I really like his Aztec statue tattoo on his
- 58:07chest. Let's have a look. I thought it was super
- 58:13well done. Ricardo Salas was 22 -2 -2. So isn't
- 58:19that nice? But yeah, Sriracha has a badass tattoo.
- 58:29I really like it. It's very clean. Microsoft,
- 58:42if I ever find out who your mother is... There
- 58:50are a few things that just really fucking upset
- 58:57me. One of them is when my computer doesn't do
- 59:00the things I tell it to do. Yeah. I paid a very
- 59:05good amount of money to make sure that it never
- 59:07even thinks. twice about anything that I wanted
- 59:13to do. That is really dope. It's Quetzalcoatl.
- 59:21It's like the creator god of the Aztec. Yeah,
- 59:25yeah, yeah. I wasn't 100 % sure if that's who
- 59:29it was. And I know Damel would give me shit in
- 59:32the chat if I got it wrong. But yeah. So that
- 59:38was the co -main. In the main event, IBF Cruiserweight
- 59:46Champion, question mark, Jai Obataya, takes Brandon
- 59:51Glanton the distance to claim the inaugural Zufa
- 59:57Cruiserweight title. Man, if I had my choice,
- 1:00:01IBF, Zufa. What title do I want? Just fuck me,
- 1:00:11Zufa, all the way. I just cannot think of anything
- 1:00:15more storied with the history, the prestige.
- 1:00:22And it's such a pretty belt, too. It's so good
- 1:00:25looking. That's like a mantelpiece right there.
- 1:00:28Oh, my God. I have seen Burger King toys that
- 1:00:31look more appealing than that. It looks like
- 1:00:34those shitty knockoff WWE belts that are like
- 1:00:38WWN at Walmart. Yeah, you're right. The guys
- 1:00:50in the chat just kept putting up Casio watches.
- 1:00:55Yeah. That's what it looks like. It is the ugliest
- 1:01:00fucking thing I've ever seen. So, the drama behind
- 1:01:08this one, if you haven't heard, is the IBF was
- 1:01:14going to sanction this fight. They had already
- 1:01:16given it, given Obataya and Zufa. They gave it
- 1:01:21their blessing. And then, throughout the promotion,
- 1:01:26they made the IBF title look... secondary. They
- 1:01:34had it off to the side, cut out of pictures.
- 1:01:37They never talked about it. They never mentioned
- 1:01:39it by name. They just acted like it didn't exist.
- 1:01:42It was just this red thing that Jai carries around
- 1:01:46with him for some reason, like his safety blankie
- 1:01:48or something. So, IBF withdrew their sanctioning
- 1:01:54of the fight. The day before the fight, which
- 1:01:57is also pretty bullshit. Yes. So Dana White and
- 1:02:05the Zufa team have been saying that they want
- 1:02:09to take the IBF to court because it's a concerted
- 1:02:14effort of the boxing industry to punish Jai Opataya
- 1:02:19for signing with Zufa and punishing Zufa. And
- 1:02:24so my only reaction to that was, and this is
- 1:02:29me kind of making up. what they say but for the
- 1:02:32sake of the point zufa comes into the boxing
- 1:02:37world and says hi we're zufa fuck all of you
- 1:02:43fuck your belts fuck your weight classes fuck
- 1:02:46your sanctioning bodies fuck your champions fuck
- 1:02:49your wbc president fuck all of you and then a
- 1:02:54few months later Why doesn't anyone want to work
- 1:02:57with us? Quit fucking crying. You either want
- 1:03:01to be a disruptor or you want to shut the fuck
- 1:03:04up and play ball. The whole situation is fucking
- 1:03:09stupid. It's grown men having pissing contests.
- 1:03:13And I do feel bad for Jai. Because he clearly
- 1:03:19believed them when they said he could keep his
- 1:03:22belt and fight for the other ones. And I don't
- 1:03:25think Jaio Pattaya is a very smart man. I was
- 1:03:28going to say, I think he's a little bit of an
- 1:03:30airhead. Yeah. Like, maybe not smart is too harsh
- 1:03:36on him, but I don't think he pays attention to
- 1:03:39any of this. I don't think he knows. about the
- 1:03:43controversies and stuff. I don't think he understood
- 1:03:46that this might be a problem before he signed.
- 1:03:49I think his managers lied to him and told him
- 1:03:51it was all figured out and he just believed them.
- 1:03:54He trusted them. Yeah. And I just don't think
- 1:04:00Jai did his due diligence with this signing.
- 1:04:06I think he just believed a bunch of bullshit
- 1:04:08from people he shouldn't have believed. And I
- 1:04:11do feel bad for him. His job is to go box and
- 1:04:15whatever. But it's so fucking stupid. And that
- 1:04:20post -fight interview, they didn't talk to each
- 1:04:27other at all. Max Kellerman came out and gave
- 1:04:30a little speech about Zufa and how the other
- 1:04:32belts don't matter and how Jai is now the undisputed
- 1:04:36Zufa champion. And Jai gave a speech about how
- 1:04:39he wants to unify the titles. Yeah, getting all
- 1:04:44four is his goal. He has no intention of moving
- 1:04:49up to heavyweight until he accomplishes that.
- 1:04:52He made that extremely clear. Yeah, and I don't
- 1:04:56think his Zufa contract is going to allow that.
- 1:05:01He's just going to keep defending the Zufa cruiserweight
- 1:05:04title? Knocking over cans like he has been for
- 1:05:08the last five years? His career... Man. I base...
- 1:05:20I take a lot of what Jacob told us about the
- 1:05:24Australian scene. I take that as pretty much
- 1:05:28his gospel. I trust his word, right? I trust
- 1:05:32what he told us. Yeah, and I think he's pretty
- 1:05:35plugged into the Australian boxing. Exactly.
- 1:05:39I trust him as a source. So for him to tell us
- 1:05:43about how Jai was getting screwed, Tasman doesn't
- 1:05:47take care of their people. So, of course, Jai's
- 1:05:52going to try to make a move into America where
- 1:05:55he can make bigger paychecks. And that was the
- 1:05:59first person that was knocking on his door was
- 1:06:02Zufa. Yeah, I just think Jai's been swindled.
- 1:06:06Yeah, I agree completely. I don't think it's
- 1:06:11entirely his fault. Like, his job is to box.
- 1:06:14But I do think he's pretty naive just believing
- 1:06:17everything that everyone says and clearly not
- 1:06:21even reading the, like, boxing news around him.
- 1:06:26He trusted his manager. Yeah, he seems... In
- 1:06:31horse racing, they wear blinders if the horse
- 1:06:34gets easily distracted. Jai has blinders on.
- 1:06:38And he has no idea what the fuck's happening
- 1:06:40outside his little window of training. And I
- 1:06:44do feel kind of bad for him, but it's also would
- 1:06:49have been very easy to avoid. Josh had a bit,
- 1:06:57he had less to say on like the, you kind of dug
- 1:07:02your own grave here with the title situation.
- 1:07:04And it was more about like, even if you do, Even
- 1:07:08if you are the number one cruiserweight ever
- 1:07:12right now, or active cruiserweight, why the fuck
- 1:07:17are you going the distance with Brandon Glanton?
- 1:07:20Yeah, well, I guess we should talk about the
- 1:07:23actual fight as well. Fuck that referee. Fuck
- 1:07:28everything about that referee. He wanted to be
- 1:07:31the main character that night. It was ridiculous.
- 1:07:35Are you looking at each other's arms? Fucking
- 1:07:37break. Yeah. Like, Glanton needed to be on the
- 1:07:42inside. And anytime he got there, if anyone's
- 1:07:47hand got caught for a second, the ref broke him.
- 1:07:50And he took points from each of them for holding.
- 1:07:53Yeah, he did. It was fucking ridiculous. Yeah,
- 1:07:58that guy's not going to get a callback from Zufa.
- 1:08:01i don't know he might maybe i mean that kind
- 1:08:04of that kind of felt like protecting jai it was
- 1:08:07because like glanton was the one that was getting
- 1:08:10all the the heart quote -unquote hard warnings
- 1:08:12so it i'm actually surprised that jai got a point
- 1:08:16docked i really am i mean the holding was with
- 1:08:22all but with all the warnings jai had gotten
- 1:08:25he had to take a point if you're gonna take one
- 1:08:28from glanton Well, and he'd already taken two
- 1:08:31from Glanton at that point. One was for holding.
- 1:08:35What was the other one? I think low blows. I
- 1:08:37think you're right. Low blows. Yeah. He landed
- 1:08:43a couple low blows, yes. But I didn't think it
- 1:08:45warranted a point. Yeah, if Hirooka is not going
- 1:08:50to get a point docked. Wait, did he get a point
- 1:08:53docked? I don't remember. He did after that really
- 1:08:56badly. He did get a point docked. I was thinking
- 1:08:59of... I don't know what I was thinking of. My
- 1:09:02brain is mush. Yeah, Hiroko got a point docked.
- 1:09:06You're right. But the fight itself was pretty
- 1:09:11boring. It was underwhelming. And Jai has shit
- 1:09:16footwork. Like, I hadn't noticed how bad it was
- 1:09:20because I don't really watch his fights closely
- 1:09:22ever. But, like, Glanton was cutting off the
- 1:09:26ring, and Glanton's not a smooth operator by
- 1:09:30any sense. Glanton was a college, a D1 college
- 1:09:36defensive end. So he's got feet. Maybe not boxing
- 1:09:42feet, but... I was gonna say, for boxing, it's
- 1:09:46not like he's got... It's fine. He's not Bam
- 1:09:49or Lomachenko. He's not pulling sweet moves.
- 1:09:53He's not doing crazy pivots. He's not, like,
- 1:09:56he's walking basically in a straight line and
- 1:10:00sidestepping, and he was able to stop Jai from
- 1:10:03escaping. Yeah, I think something else Josh had
- 1:10:10pointed out was that when Opataya, when he went,
- 1:10:15he went down. It wasn't knockdowns, but he fell
- 1:10:19over because he tripped over his own feet. Yeah,
- 1:10:23Jai was crossing himself up trying to get away
- 1:10:25from Glanton. If you are the number one and as
- 1:10:31good as people say, you should be able to do
- 1:10:35that without falling. Not crossing your feet
- 1:10:39is like Boxing 101. That was like... The first
- 1:10:43thing they worked on in karate classes. When
- 1:10:46I was a kid. Like. Yeah when we did. Like basic
- 1:10:53hand to hand. Stuff in the military. Like in
- 1:10:56boot camp. Where you just do like the white belt.
- 1:10:59Is the equivalent. That you would understand.
- 1:11:02So when you're doing white belt stuff. It's like
- 1:11:04you don't cross your feet. Don't put your thumbs
- 1:11:07into your fucking fist. Yeah like. Baby stuff.
- 1:11:13Every combat sport, the first thing is don't
- 1:11:15let your feet get in a straight line even. Yeah.
- 1:11:21Anyway, Jai was not impressive to me at this
- 1:11:25fight. Maybe we should cut him some slack because
- 1:11:33he was being told that he was getting stripped
- 1:11:35and stuff. And it was probably really bothering
- 1:11:37him because that's clearly important to him.
- 1:11:40It is clearly important to him. Yes. I've never
- 1:11:43been super impressed with Jai. He's got power,
- 1:11:46but he's been fighting bums. Something that the
- 1:11:52broadcast pointed out a lot, that, to me, it
- 1:11:58wasn't the flex that they think it is, that they
- 1:12:01thought it was, was when they brought up fighting
- 1:12:04Myrus Bredis with a broken jaw. and it's like
- 1:12:10why the fuck is old man breed is catching you
- 1:12:12like that right exactly how is a 40 year old
- 1:12:17man breaking your jaw when you're like a 20 something
- 1:12:21fucking stud how is this happening i mean if
- 1:12:25jai's whole thing was i'm a pressure fighter
- 1:12:29and i get in the mix and i tough it out like
- 1:12:32somebody like say a satsumi Then it's a bit of
- 1:12:38a break, right? Like his whole thing is heart
- 1:12:41and toughness. But Jai's whole thing is supposed
- 1:12:44to be like power and they're trying to sell him
- 1:12:48as kind of finesse. Yeah. Finesse with power
- 1:12:54hands behind it. Yeah. And if that's your thing,
- 1:12:59you shouldn't be getting caught like that. But
- 1:13:01I guess the other comparison kind of is Bam.
- 1:13:04Bam got caught. He got a broken jaw as well.
- 1:13:07Absolutely. So it shows his toughness. But yeah.
- 1:13:14I don't know. I was not very impressed. And Brandon
- 1:13:21Glanton is made of fucking cement. Like that
- 1:13:25dude took some hard shots. I think he won the
- 1:13:29story of the night. He didn't really take a step
- 1:13:32back even. He wasn't bothered by Opetai's power.
- 1:13:40He was not concerned with Opetai's supposed footwork.
- 1:13:46He was constantly cutting off the ring, keeping
- 1:13:51Opetai in front of him. He took some good shots,
- 1:13:55and he still kept pressing forward. I feel Brandon
- 1:14:00Glanton won the story of the night. I think he's
- 1:14:02going to get a call from... whoever Zerto Benavidez
- 1:14:07winner or loser, even he's going to get a call
- 1:14:11from one of them. I hope so. Like, it's not that
- 1:14:15I don't want to see Jai get his belts, but I
- 1:14:19don't know. The whole Zufa thing was a misstep.
- 1:14:24Quite. I think it was being too trusting. He,
- 1:14:28I think he expected, he had been with Tasman
- 1:14:31for a while. So he expected, he trusted that
- 1:14:36they had his best interests in mind and that
- 1:14:40they knew his goal was undisputed. The four belt
- 1:14:44undisputed. They knew that's what he wanted.
- 1:14:47So when they said, yeah, that's going to be available
- 1:14:50to you, he trusted them. Yeah. But as I said
- 1:14:57on B -Sides, Jai, buddy. If you need somebody
- 1:15:02to read your shit, you let me know. I will sit
- 1:15:07down and fucking read every goddamn word of the
- 1:15:10contract for you. Because this Zufa shit, this
- 1:15:16ain't it. They are not going to get you to your
- 1:15:20goals. I think a lot... The IVF pulled their
- 1:15:26sanctioning partly because of wording in their...
- 1:15:30whatever mandate, is that the right word? Where
- 1:15:34they can pull sanctioning if you're fighting
- 1:15:38with a different promotion? I can't remember
- 1:15:46the wording. But basically, if you're fighting
- 1:15:49for Mickey Mouse belts, we can unsanction the
- 1:15:52fight. And they declared Zufa Mickey Mouse belt.
- 1:15:59They're not wrong. No, but that was their reasoning,
- 1:16:05and if it goes to court, that'll be what they
- 1:16:09stand by. But the IBF almost never goes to court.
- 1:16:12I think they're just going to pansy out. Ever
- 1:16:19since the IBF got caught for corruption and shit,
- 1:16:22I don't think they've been to court since. Well,
- 1:16:25they play it hard. By their rules. Like, verbatim.
- 1:16:31Yeah. If you can't fucking read them, then that's
- 1:16:34your problem, because we are going by the text.
- 1:16:38Yeah. But, like, I think Jai needed to read all
- 1:16:42of the belt's rules as well as his contract.
- 1:16:47Like, I'm sure WBC would be willing to play ball
- 1:16:52with Zufa, because I don't give a shit as long
- 1:16:55as I get paid. Yeah. But, yeah. Man, this sucks
- 1:17:01for... Because Zordo... That was one of the things
- 1:17:08that I forgot to mention in the news. Zordo Benavidez.
- 1:17:14Zordo's the WBA, WBO cruiserweight champ. Yeah.
- 1:17:19WBC is trying to insert themselves in with their
- 1:17:23commemorative belt. And it's like, what are...
- 1:17:28So the other two are saying, like, what the fuck
- 1:17:31are you doing? You have no stake in the game
- 1:17:34here. You have your champion over there with
- 1:17:37Norair Makalian. Go promote him or whatever.
- 1:17:45Yeah. I don't know. Cruiserweight's in a weird
- 1:17:50spot right now. Yeah. Anything more for our recaps?
- 1:17:59No. All right. Phone line, 833 -589 -7637. I
- 1:18:07want to hear your spiciest takes. Tell me what

- 1:21:02know. Is this a light weekend? Starting with
- 1:21:07Friday, March 20th. Misfits Pro. In Belfast.
- 1:21:15The fuck is this? I don't know who these people
- 1:21:18are. Co -promoted by Conlon Boxing, if that helps.
- 1:21:23Mickey Conlon is headlining against Kevin Walsh.
- 1:21:30Mickey Conlon doesn't need to be fighting anymore.
- 1:21:35He should be promoting. He was doing pretty good
- 1:21:38with that. Yeah. Him, his brother, his father.
- 1:21:44Do I recognize the co -main? No, this is a different
- 1:21:46Kieran. Yeah, not the same Kieran. I think Kieran
- 1:21:50Connelly is who you're thinking of. I might be,
- 1:21:54yeah. Moving on. Saturday, March 21st. Starting
- 1:21:57off with the Brit Slop Fans Delight Matchroom
- 1:22:04at the Copper Box. Who do I... Recognize Emmanuel
- 1:22:13Buttigieg. I know his name. Giorgio Visioli,
- 1:22:17I know that name. Jimmy Saines, I know that name.
- 1:22:21And in the main event, George Ladard versus Tyler
- 1:22:24Denny. I know Ladard. Yes, and I know Tyler Denny
- 1:22:31as well. I look at his picture. No, I don't think
- 1:22:36I know him. I mean, it's Brit Slop. It'll be
- 1:22:40what it is. Lynn is probably losing her shit
- 1:22:45over this one. She loves Lenard. She does. Moving
- 1:22:50on to Probox TV in San Bernardino, California.
- 1:22:57Let's... I only got two on this one. Joshua Anton
- 1:23:03versus Kudratilo Abdukakarov. It's a ten round.
- 1:23:09154 fight, and in the main event, Lester Martinez,
- 1:23:14Emmanuel Aleem, interim WBC super middleweight
- 1:23:18title. I'm super excited to see Lester again.
- 1:23:23Me too. I don't know much about Aleem, but I'm
- 1:23:31hoping Lester can get a nice, convincing win.
- 1:23:37Because I don't think it's going to be an easy
- 1:23:39fight. I think Lester, especially if he's still
- 1:23:45with Bomek, I think he's going to... Maybe the
- 1:23:50first few rounds might be a little tough, but
- 1:23:53I think he'll be able to overcome it. I think
- 1:23:56Lester is... Lester, to me, is the WBC champion.
- 1:24:02I think he would have beaten... Mbili in a rematch.
- 1:24:07I do as well. And they elevated Mbili prematurely.
- 1:24:14Lester Martinez, he has a lot. If he doesn't
- 1:24:18have high boxing IQ in himself, he is highly
- 1:24:24coachable. Which is sometimes better. It can
- 1:24:29be, yes. So with Bomek in your corner, that's...
- 1:24:33It's like Robert Garcia. You get the buff. Yeah,
- 1:24:37yeah. I really think Lester Martinez is the goods.
- 1:24:42Yeah, I agree. And I want to see him do well.
- 1:24:45I've been watching interviews with him and stuff,
- 1:24:47and he just seems like a really happy guy. He's
- 1:24:52always just like, I'm so excited to be here.
- 1:24:55I can't believe my dream is coming true. I'm
- 1:24:56just happy to be here, everybody. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:59Oh, are there snacks? Who brought snacks? I brought
- 1:25:02snacks. I'm happy to be here. Exactly. And it
- 1:25:07would be really cool for him to become the first
- 1:25:11Guatemalan world champion. I think that would
- 1:25:14be amazing. First Guatemalan? Yeah. I double
- 1:25:23checked it after last time. He would be the first
- 1:25:25Guatemalan world champion. Excellent. And he
- 1:25:31seems like a nice guy who deserves it. I would
- 1:25:34be sad if Lester loses. I would be too, because
- 1:25:37he seems like such a, like a, just genuinely
- 1:25:40good person. Yeah, just happy. Yes. I like happy
- 1:25:46people. He's grateful. Yeah. Last bit. Matchroom
- 1:25:53on DAZN at the Caribe Royale in Orlando. Florida.
- 1:26:00There are some TBAs still on here. As I have
- 1:26:07been saying, I am very professional. Hold on
- 1:26:12a second. Let me make sure that these are not
- 1:26:14still TBAs. Entrevious Ingram. Just what an excellent
- 1:26:20name. Excellent. Moving up. Tara Moana is facing
- 1:26:26Curtis Harper. Is that the dude that walked out
- 1:26:28on FAA Dragba? Curtis Harper? I don't think so.
- 1:26:33Maybe. He is. Disqualified in the first. That's
- 1:26:37him. Nice. Tara Moana. Curtis, please walk out
- 1:26:43again. He fucked that up so bad because they
- 1:26:49hadn't paid him. So if he hadn't have done the
- 1:26:52ring walk. He was free and clear, but he ring
- 1:26:55-walked and stepped into the ring, so then he
- 1:26:58was in breach of contract. Well, make sure that
- 1:27:02you do the ring -walk and don't get in the ring
- 1:27:04this time, Curtis. Let's see. Like I said, I
- 1:27:11am professional. Yoannis Taez is no longer on
- 1:27:17this card because he's got moved to the Fundora
- 1:27:21Thurman. The week after. Omari Jones is facing
- 1:27:29Christian Gomez. I don't know who that is, but
- 1:27:32Omari Jones is going on his sixth fight facing
- 1:27:35a 23 -6 -1 veteran. So I think Eddie believes
- 1:27:40in what he's got. Yeah, I don't recognize Christian
- 1:27:44Gomez. And in the main event... The rescheduled
- 1:27:50fight. Carlos Adamas, the WBC middleweight champion,
- 1:27:54is facing Austin Williams. I learned... Well,
- 1:28:00I don't know if it's confirmed. But people are
- 1:28:04still calling him Tiger. And I don't like it.
- 1:28:06No. No. He is Ammo. Ammo is such a better nickname.
- 1:28:10He will always be Ammo to me. I'm not going to
- 1:28:15let this go. I'm going to find a way to contact...
- 1:28:18austin williams and let him know dude ammo way
- 1:28:21cooler um it is way and you are a cool fucking
- 1:28:25dude so cut the tiger shit don't be sewing on
- 1:28:30tiger tails to your fucking trunks while you
- 1:28:32train bro that's like furry shit yeah that's
- 1:28:37not great don't be doing that dude you're cooler
- 1:28:40than that all right so we are heading into Lester
- 1:28:47Martinez and then Carlos Adames versus Emma Williams.
- 1:28:55Parting words. Other than Elon Musk not being
- 1:28:59cool enough to hang out with pedophiles. Parting
- 1:29:05words. I need to figure out what Guatemalan food
- 1:29:08is so I can have Guatemalan food for the Lester
- 1:29:11Martinez fight. They do tamales as well. They
- 1:29:16make theirs differently, though. They do banana
- 1:29:18leaves instead of corn husks. I've never had
- 1:29:21tamales, to be honest. Oh, shit, dog. We gotta
- 1:29:25get you sorted out. I know. But yeah, I'm gonna
- 1:29:29figure out what Guatemalan food is and I'm gonna
- 1:29:31make some for the Lester Martinez fight. That
- 1:29:34is how you celebrate. Fuck, being busy sucks.
- 1:29:38I'm trying to also get the goddamn video game
- 1:29:41podcast running again. I was thinking of doing
- 1:29:44an anime. video game sort of hybrid okay so that
- 1:29:50maybe you could poke in for a little bit yeah
- 1:29:52yeah say stuff about shows you're watching um
- 1:29:56i watch a shit ton of anime i could definitely
- 1:29:58do that yeah take that that's parting words you
- 1:30:02want to be a you want a podcast about some shit
- 1:30:04i got you got you covered well boxing before
- 1:30:10dark i would say That it is, but it's not. I'm
- 1:30:14just going to say it because it's the outro.
- 1:30:17My batteries are getting low. And it is getting
- 1:30:21dark. It's got still blondes. Goddamn. All right.
- 1:30:28We are out of here. Bye. Bye.
