Transcript
- 0:02I think the one, one of the really interesting things about right to work
- 0:05This is the Labor Radio Podcast Daily for Friday, June 5th.
- 0:10is that, sometimes I feel like we're hungrier or we're scrappier
- 0:15in a way because we know we don't have that automatic membership
- 0:20And we have to organize every day just to keep people in the union.
- 0:23That's from the Heartland Labor Forum on the Labor Radio Podcast
- 0:27Network, laborradionetwork.org.
- 0:31On today's Labor Arts Calendar, a new exhibit, Pullman Porters and
- 0:36Maids: Invisible Labor, Visible Legacies, opens tonight at 6:00 in
- 0:41Chicago with an opening reception.
- 0:44Details and the latest labor arts news and events are available at laborheritage.org,
- 0:51where you can also subscribe to the Labor Heritage Foundation's
- 0:55free weekly newsletter.
- 0:57In today's labor history on this date in 1976, 35 members of the Teamsters
- 1:04concerned about the infiltration of organized crime in the union and
- 1:08other issues met in Cleveland to form Teamsters for a Democratic Union.
- 1:14Today's labor quote is by Elizabeth Warren, who said,
- 1:18"Corporations are not people.
- 1:20People have hearts.
- 1:21They have kids.
- 1:22They get jobs.
- 1:23They get sick.
- 1:24They cry.
- 1:24They dance.
- 1:26They live, they love and they die, and that matters.
- 1:29That matters because we don't run this country for corporations.
- 1:34We run it for people."
- 1:36Support for the Labor Radio Podcast Daily comes from Union
- 1:40Plus, a nonprofit organization founded by the AFL-CIO in 1986.
