- 2:12Speaker 1: I said that a little bit wrong this morning. But
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm tired. I just came out the gym. I'm a
- 2:16Speaker 1: little out of sorts right now, but it's okay. I'll
- 2:19Speaker 1: pull it together. But let me tell you something, man,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I got a clear cut message for you today. I
- 2:24Speaker 1: really do you know? Um, As I've gotten older, I've
- 2:31Speaker 1: begin to take some supplements. And supplements are to help
- 2:39Speaker 1: your body and things that it doesn't produce as much
- 2:45Speaker 1: as it used to. You know, do you gotta take
- 2:49Speaker 1: a vitamin supplement. This mineral supplements because just you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: vitamin D supplement because vitamin D is important. And you know,
- 2:59Speaker 1: as you get older sometimes your body doesn't produce it
- 3:03Speaker 1: at the rate that it used to, and so you
- 3:07Speaker 1: take supplements. You know, you've got herbs that can help
- 3:11Speaker 1: you out with digesting ginger. You know, things like that,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you got. It's it's a lot of things out there.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Once you start talking to people that's in and know
- 3:20Speaker 1: what health food stores and things of that nature. If
- 3:23Speaker 1: you're going in there and you know you're having trouble
- 3:26Speaker 1: with this, or you you're feeling like you're not your
- 3:28Speaker 1: eyesight ain't quite what are you trying to get your
- 3:31Speaker 1: hair and your nails together and they tell you to
- 3:33Speaker 1: try buy it in or something like that, Or or
- 3:36Speaker 1: your joints is feeling a little ache and they recommend
- 3:39Speaker 1: grew closer mean and congratagen and you know stuff like supplements,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and I take supplements all the time. Supplements are designed
- 3:49Speaker 1: to help you replenish what's been depleted in your body.
- 3:56Speaker 1: That supplements. Now, now, people, I'm content, hell, you can
- 4:00Speaker 1: speak a lot more aggressively and a lot more knowledgeable
- 4:04Speaker 1: on this subject. But just giving you a just a
- 4:07Speaker 1: brief overview of mind standing up now, if you've been
- 4:14Speaker 1: living your life for a while, supplements are necessary for
- 4:21Speaker 1: most of us now. Also, if you've been living your
- 4:29Speaker 1: life for a while spiritually, you may need some supplements
- 4:37Speaker 1: because you've just been at it for a while. You
- 4:41Speaker 1: didn't got woll down a little bit, You're tied some
- 4:45Speaker 1: people around you ain't changing some people around your draining.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It's just life just keeps on coming. Life don't ever
- 4:53Speaker 1: get no easier. It's just you become more knowledgeable about
- 4:57Speaker 1: how to handle it. It does not get any either easier.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You continue to lose love ones, you continue to have
- 5:05Speaker 1: to confront the challenges. It's just that over course of
- 5:08Speaker 1: time you become experienced and you can handle them better.
- 5:12Speaker 1: But life don't get no easier. But spiritually you get
- 5:17Speaker 1: a little bit worn down. Well, you need some spiritual
- 5:21Speaker 1: supplements too. And I'm just gonna flat out tell you,
- 5:27Speaker 1: the more God that you can replenish yourself with, the
- 5:33Speaker 1: higher the dosage of God that you are willing to
- 5:37Speaker 1: put into your spiritual self, the possibilities then become limitless.
- 5:47Speaker 1: You actually have the ability to make a conscious decision
- 5:52Speaker 1: to supplement your body, and you have a conscious decision
- 5:57Speaker 1: to supplement your spirit. You can do both. So what
- 6:04Speaker 1: I did was, I could just tell you what I did.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I was taking all these supplements. I started taking supplements
- 6:10Speaker 1: when I was about forty five. I think that's when
- 6:12Speaker 1: I begin I I was thinking about one day and
- 6:17Speaker 1: I just went wild. Man. I started talking to some
- 6:20Speaker 1: knowledgeable people. I found out I needed these things. But
- 6:23Speaker 1: then spiritually, man, I started supplementing myself too. I started
- 6:26Speaker 1: praying some more. I started trying to gain a little
- 6:30Speaker 1: bit more knowledge and wisdom and understanding from scriptures and
- 6:34Speaker 1: just try to make makes sense of all of it,
- 6:38Speaker 1: you know, just just make a little bit more sense
- 6:40Speaker 1: out of my life, make sure that I was on
- 6:43Speaker 1: the right path. A matter of fact, get on the
- 6:45Speaker 1: right path, find out my real purpose and my mission
- 6:48Speaker 1: in life. And nobody can do that for you. That's
- 6:51Speaker 1: something that you have to want to do. But I
- 6:54Speaker 1: started supplementing my spiritual side of my life and supplementing
- 6:58Speaker 1: my body. Now I happened to be right now about
- 7:03Speaker 1: in the best shape I've ever been in. Technically, I
- 7:08Speaker 1: can assure you though I am in the best shape
- 7:11Speaker 1: spiritually I have ever been in. Now my body has
- 7:15Speaker 1: looked better, It really has. I mean, come on now,
- 7:20Speaker 1: at who I am in life, at the stage with
- 7:22Speaker 1: the years I've been walking this earth. Man, I'm cool,
- 7:27Speaker 1: but spiritually I'm in the best shape I've ever been in.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And what has done for me, y'all is it gave
- 7:34Speaker 1: me a piece and a calmness. You know it used
- 7:36Speaker 1: to be, man, I used to fight so hard against
- 7:39Speaker 1: people who attack. Now, man, it ain't. It ain't that
- 7:42Speaker 1: serious to me because now I have a full understanding
- 7:45Speaker 1: that if I come under attack, that God is with me,
- 7:50Speaker 1: because that's a promise he made. That's Isaiah fifty four seventeen.
- 7:54Speaker 1: That's that's the that's Any weapon formed against you, any
- 7:58Speaker 1: weapon formed against you shall not prosper. You can't. You
- 8:03Speaker 1: can't come and get me. It's isn't. I'm not here
- 8:05Speaker 1: for you to take down because you didn't put me here.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So why would I feel a person bringing me down
- 8:13Speaker 1: when they're not the reason that I'm here. So when
- 8:16Speaker 1: you attack me, you have to be careful because I
- 8:20Speaker 1: ain't ever by myself. I formed a relationship with the
- 8:25Speaker 1: most High that I can rely on for protection, for coverage,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and for peace. A lot of times when things used
- 8:33Speaker 1: to stress me out, how to run this, how to
- 8:36Speaker 1: handle this, how to deal with that? You know, famous
- 8:39Speaker 1: rough Man. And then you put that together with some business,
- 8:42Speaker 1: and you put that together with your family. You got
- 8:44Speaker 1: a lot of stuff you're trying to tend to. I
- 8:46Speaker 1: have a piece of mind about it now because I
- 8:50Speaker 1: have someone who provides me with a sense of understanding
- 8:55Speaker 1: and calmness that lets me know that this tool shall pass.
- 8:59Speaker 1: That it ain't just so saying that. I heard old
- 9:02Speaker 1: people say that. It ain't just something my mama used
- 9:05Speaker 1: to tell me. It's something that can really happen. Once
- 9:08Speaker 1: you get an understanding, this tools your pass. This is
- 9:11Speaker 1: just another piece of life that you are now better
- 9:14Speaker 1: equipped to handle. I'm telling you what it's done for me.
- 9:19Speaker 1: A millions of people out there hear me. Man has
- 9:22Speaker 1: done the same thing for them. I'm I'm I'm telling
- 9:25Speaker 1: it new to some people, but there's some people that
- 9:27Speaker 1: show enough understand what I'm saying. And then if you
- 9:31Speaker 1: if you have known this but kind of forgot it,
- 9:33Speaker 1: it's time for some supplements. So when you get like that,
- 9:38Speaker 1: and and now you find yourself in a situation with
- 9:41Speaker 1: a disease or something. You gotta do something. Nah, you
- 9:46Speaker 1: gotta start juicing all your greens. You gotta start detoxing
- 9:49Speaker 1: your body. You gotta start purifying the system. See, the
- 9:53Speaker 1: human body has always had a way to repair itself
- 9:57Speaker 1: if you just give it a chance. Your mind has
- 10:00Speaker 1: always had a chance to repair itself if you give
- 10:03Speaker 1: it a chance. And your spirit always has a chance
- 10:07Speaker 1: to repair itself if you give it a chance. It's
- 10:12Speaker 1: the only way I can maintain at this level, and
- 10:15Speaker 1: it's the only way I have any chance of going further.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I have to increase my dosage or spiritual supplements. I
- 10:25Speaker 1: gotta talk to God a little bit more. I got
- 10:28Speaker 1: to pray a little bit more. I got to understand
- 10:32Speaker 1: his word a little bit more. That's all I'm telling you. Man,
- 10:36Speaker 1: If you do that, if you just pray more, if
- 10:39Speaker 1: you just studied a little bit more, Man, just try
- 10:42Speaker 1: to get an understand and ask him to help you understand.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It will open up the possibilities of your life too,
- 10:49Speaker 1: into a realm you never could have imagined. I'm telling
- 10:54Speaker 1: you that's real. Okay, you're listening to I love music.

- 24:29Speaker 1: baby Yeah Chin a food and the powerful ballot natural
- 24:39Speaker 1: woman looking out all the morning. Raine. I used to
- 24:48Speaker 1: feel so I did inspire and when I knew I
- 24:55Speaker 1: had to face another day good and bade me feel
- 25:02Speaker 1: so tired before the day I met you, I'm for
- 25:10Speaker 1: so unkind and you are the key to my piece

- 27:42Speaker 1: We're gonna go to the phones. I'm gonna let you
- 27:46Speaker 1: tell us what the Queen of Soul meant to you
- 27:48Speaker 1: or your favorite read the Frankly song Memory anything call
- 27:52Speaker 1: us eight seven seven twenty nine, Steve eight seven seven
- 27:55Speaker 1: twenty nine. Steve. All right, y'all, Uh, here we go. Hey,
- 27:59Speaker 1: who is it hasty? This is Shady's. I just want
- 28:03Speaker 1: to say that I'm devastated right now. Um, you know,
- 28:07Speaker 1: we've lost the queen. Um any singer that experienced Theresa
- 28:12Speaker 1: Franklin owes her gratitude because she's opened up so many doors,
- 28:16Speaker 1: and it's done so much, so much work for humanity
- 28:20Speaker 1: and civil rights. And I've always looked up to her,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and I just want to, you know, tell you that
- 28:25Speaker 1: when she turned fifty, she I was. She flew me
- 28:29Speaker 1: to Detroit with my me and my entire band to
- 28:32Speaker 1: perform at her fifties birthday party. And over the years
- 28:38Speaker 1: we've stayed in touch. And I went through a period where,
- 28:42Speaker 1: you know, I just felt down and didn't want to
- 28:43Speaker 1: sing anymore, and she tracked. She contacted me, and um,
- 28:49Speaker 1: told me that. She said, I've been thinking about you.
- 28:52Speaker 1: She said, we're auditionally from my life story, and she said,
- 28:54Speaker 1: I want you in my life store. And she said
- 28:57Speaker 1: I know true talent when I hear it, and and
- 29:00Speaker 1: she she was telling me she believes in me, and
- 29:02Speaker 1: she was just she encouraged me during the time when
- 29:05Speaker 1: I felt like giving up. And I just there's another
- 29:08Speaker 1: story I want to tell you. I was just I
- 29:10Speaker 1: was in Detroit during the show a couple of years ago,
- 29:14Speaker 1: and I had to promote the show at the news
- 29:16Speaker 1: station down there, and she called down to the news
- 29:19Speaker 1: station after she saw me perform on the show, and
- 29:22Speaker 1: everyone thought it was a prank call, and they said,
- 29:24Speaker 1: someone saying there with the Franklin, but we're not not
- 29:27Speaker 1: sure if this is really her. And I said, well,
- 29:29Speaker 1: I do know her, so it could possibly be her.
- 29:32Speaker 1: So I got on the phone and it was Miss Franklin,
- 29:35Speaker 1: and she told me again. She said, I didn't think
- 29:37Speaker 1: I didn't forget about you were still doing my Life
- 29:40Speaker 1: Story and she said I would love you to play
- 29:43Speaker 1: my sister. And I don't know if that's going to
- 29:46Speaker 1: manifest or not, but just to hear her say those
- 29:50Speaker 1: words to me and just she was always so encouraging
- 29:52Speaker 1: to me, and I said something that I can forever
- 29:56Speaker 1: hold onto because I have wonderful memories. We've had wonderful
- 30:01Speaker 1: conversations over the years, and she will never be for guy. Never.
- 30:07Speaker 1: All right, we'll have more of the Steve Harvey Morning
- 30:10Speaker 1: Show right after this. You're listening Steve Harvey Morning Show.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Take me too hot. She's the Queen and she will
- 30:21Speaker 1: forever have an impact on my soul. I know millions
- 30:24Speaker 1: of people haven't heard her music, and she's gonna forever
- 30:27Speaker 1: be remembered. And I loved her dignity and all she
- 30:32Speaker 1: did and her love of God made her who she is.
- 30:38Speaker 1: When she's saying, you had to feel the fire your
- 30:42Speaker 1: heart and soul because he was very uplifting. Her music
- 30:45Speaker 1: brought joy to everybody. Her music was absolutely inspirational. She
- 30:52Speaker 1: was there all in arm with mar Luther King and
- 30:56Speaker 1: when she did respect, that went a long way. Hey,
- 31:02Speaker 1: Today on the Steve Harvey Morning Show, we're gonna honor
- 31:05Speaker 1: the life, the legacy and the music of my friend
- 31:08Speaker 1: one And on the Queen of Soul, can you just
- 31:10Speaker 1: tell us we know that you all had a special
- 31:12Speaker 1: bond so Steve tell us about the time one of
- 31:15Speaker 1: the times you met Aretha um the N A B A.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I think it was n it ain't b JAL Association
- 31:23Speaker 1: Black Journalists. I think she was performing at one of
- 31:28Speaker 1: the events and uh we were back still. It was
- 31:31Speaker 1: sort of funny because Aretha needed when she performed. She
- 31:35Speaker 1: liked the adda be off o yeah, all ye, and
- 31:42Speaker 1: uh it was already a little warm in in a yeah,
- 31:48Speaker 1: the black journalist was already hot. Reva came in there
- 31:52Speaker 1: and said, cut whatever air they cut that as off.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I bought them siss in that half start reacting and
- 32:01Speaker 1: make up. They was looking good though them sisters were strong.
- 32:04Speaker 1: They held it together. Came out there and saying, because
- 32:07Speaker 1: this read. As soon as she left, you've seen the
- 32:11Speaker 1: black people try to cut that because there was real
- 32:16Speaker 1: respectful wreathing. The queen man so on his wreathing, got
- 32:22Speaker 1: through saying saying her tail off too, thought her mercument,
- 32:26Speaker 1: this woman's voice, man, And as soon she got through
- 32:29Speaker 1: them people trying to cut that on man. But she
- 32:33Speaker 1: was always kind to me. She always said beautiful stuff
- 32:37Speaker 1: to me. I just love you, Steve. You're just doing
- 32:40Speaker 1: so much. Oh I watch you on that show Family Feud,
- 32:44Speaker 1: I'd be sitting up laughing. You know, just remember stuff
- 32:47Speaker 1: like that. I like talking about people in positive ways,
- 32:49Speaker 1: you know, of course, because you know what I mean. Look,
- 32:53Speaker 1: we're all gonna leave him some sooner, some later, but
- 32:57Speaker 1: were all pulling up out of him. And I just
- 33:00Speaker 1: think about my terms and my life in terms of
- 33:04Speaker 1: my longevity. Man, and I didn't had more time than
- 33:07Speaker 1: I got left, that's for sure. I'm not gonna live
- 33:10Speaker 1: another sixty years. I'm not gonna be a hundred and twenty.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I don't even got to. But we want you around.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna do one o ut more years. I'm gonna
- 33:22Speaker 1: gonna punch you out. Kids by the end. Yeah, see
- 33:26Speaker 1: your grandkids, more grandkids, That's what I'm hoping for. If
- 33:31Speaker 1: I could see Winton's grandkids, great grandfather, huh. If I
- 33:36Speaker 1: could see Winton's grandkids, you'll be good. I'm gonna push
- 33:41Speaker 1: the button. Boy. Yeah, Winter is my youngest. So one
- 33:46Speaker 1: let's say went and have a kid in ten years,
- 33:49Speaker 1: and then twenty years later that would be thirty years
- 33:53Speaker 1: from now. I'll be ninety. I could see his Sonday,
- 33:56Speaker 1: I'd go on in. I just want to see it.
- 34:00Speaker 1: That little boy. M Yeah, that's how I'm gonna do it. Okay,
- 34:05Speaker 1: I'm just that's what I'm going to the Lord with. Okay, alright,
- 34:09Speaker 1: So um, more stars and more celebrities. Thank you for that, Steve.
- 34:12Speaker 1: We're all talking about what Aretha Franklin means to them.
- 34:16Speaker 1: We'll talk about it as well. We'll continue talking about
- 34:19Speaker 1: it this morning. So Steve mss anna is here with
- 34:21Speaker 1: a special tribute to the Queen of Soul. Well, here
- 34:25Speaker 1: she is, then, the lovely miss a trip. Thank you
- 34:29Speaker 1: very much everybody. This is and troop with the news.
- 34:32Speaker 1: The official Morning for John McCain shifts from Arizona to Washington,
- 34:35Speaker 1: d C. Today. Thousands of mourners gathered in and around
- 34:38Speaker 1: the North Phoenix Baptist Church yesterday for memorial service force
- 34:42Speaker 1: Senator McCain remarks one from the personal to personal funny
- 34:46Speaker 1: like the fact that McCain was apparently a real lousy driver,
- 34:49Speaker 1: to poignant and sad. Senator McCain died of brain cancer,
- 34:52Speaker 1: you know, and that was something that was extra personal
- 34:55Speaker 1: to former Vice President Joe Biden, who spoke as he
- 34:57Speaker 1: held back the tears. Disease. It's John's life took our
- 35:02Speaker 1: mutual friends Teddy Slide the exact same disease nine years ago,
- 35:06Speaker 1: and three years ago it took my beautiful son BoA's life.
- 35:11Speaker 1: It's a brutal it's relentless, it's unforgiving, and it takes
- 35:16Speaker 1: so much from those we love and from the families
- 35:20Speaker 1: who love them, that in order to survive, we have
- 35:23Speaker 1: to remember how they lived, not how they died. Santor's
- 35:29Speaker 1: body is being flown east today. He's two line stayed
- 35:31Speaker 1: inside the US Capital. Later on there's to be a
- 35:34Speaker 1: stop of the Vietnam War Memorial and then on to
- 35:36Speaker 1: the National Cathedral for a funeral service. And then on
- 35:40Speaker 1: Sunday there's to be a private service at the U. S.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Naval Academy in Annapolis where the war heroes to be buried.
- 35:46Speaker 1: President Trump has poorly informed the Congress he's canceling the
- 35:49Speaker 1: pay raises due in January for most civilian federal employees.
- 35:52Speaker 1: He's citing budget constraints as the reason. Quan to a
- 35:56Speaker 1: recent nationwide pope, President Trump is disliked the most in
- 35:58Speaker 1: the state of Massachusetts. Researches for The Morning Consult pole
- 36:02Speaker 1: voters in all fifty states and found that six of
- 36:05Speaker 1: those in Massachusetts disapproved of Trump's job performance, which works
- 36:09Speaker 1: out to a negative twenty net approval rate. Looks like
- 36:12Speaker 1: Colin Kaepernick's collusion case against the NFL is going to
- 36:15Speaker 1: be going to trial. That's right, the gifted yet unemployed
- 36:18Speaker 1: quarterback accusing the National Football League owners of conspiring to
- 36:21Speaker 1: keep him out of work over his kneeling during the
- 36:23Speaker 1: playing of the national anthem. Is well that an arbiter
- 36:27Speaker 1: to a judge, rather that that is going to court.
- 36:30Speaker 1: That's that merits a trial. Uh, the NFL tried to
- 36:33Speaker 1: get a thrown out put you know, unsuccessfully. Finally, funeral
- 36:36Speaker 1: services schedule in Detroit today for Wreatha Franklin. The list
- 36:38Speaker 1: of performers as long as a phone book, with the
- 36:41Speaker 1: likes of Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Shaka Khan, Shirley Caesar,
- 36:45Speaker 1: the Clarks. This is included the invitation only service to
- 36:48Speaker 1: be taking place at Detroit's Greater Grace Temple. Former President
- 36:51Speaker 1: Clinton and the Reverend Jesse Jackson among those scheduled speakers.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Today's homegoing service follows a week of tributes as the
- 36:57Speaker 1: Queen of Soul laying reposed at the Charles Right African
- 36:59Speaker 1: American Street resum and at her late father's church, New
- 37:03Speaker 1: Bethel Baptist Church, resons to be laid to rest with
- 37:06Speaker 1: her father, brother and her two sisters. And there ain't
- 37:08Speaker 1: no way they'll ever be anyone like her again. Rest
- 37:11Speaker 1: in peace, a Resa, ain't no way. Stevie Harvey Nation,
- 37:14Speaker 1: Uncle Steve Smarta's nephew will see back in twenty minutes
- 37:17Speaker 1: after the hour Steve Harvey Morning Show. You're listening Steve
- 37:22Speaker 1: Harvey Morning Show. Hey, listen up, welcome back today. We
- 37:27Speaker 1: are paying tribute to the Queen of Soul. We're gonna
- 37:30Speaker 1: go to the phones. Uh, I'm gonna let you tell
- 37:34Speaker 1: us what the Queen of Soul meant to you? All
- 37:36Speaker 1: your favorite read the Franklin song Memory Anything call us
- 37:40Speaker 1: eight seven seven twenty nine. Steve eight seven seven twenty nine, Steve, Hey,
- 37:45Speaker 1: who is this? What's up? Steve? Man? Is Uncle Charlie,
- 37:49Speaker 1: Queen Franklin, Queen of Soul passed on? Man? It is
- 37:54Speaker 1: It had me at all right now. And I'm just
- 37:58Speaker 1: gonna miss her a lot, not only your the vocals,
- 38:00Speaker 1: you know, she taught us all how to sing, you know.
- 38:03Speaker 1: And if she's the best that ever touched the microphone,
- 38:06Speaker 1: hands down, female, male, doesn't matter. She's just what he was,
- 38:09Speaker 1: the greatest man. She do anything with a voice, And
- 38:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna miss her a lot. I'm gonna miss singing
- 38:16Speaker 1: at a birthday party, and I'm gonna miss comparing diamond
- 38:20Speaker 1: rings or whether you know, you couldn't go around her
- 38:23Speaker 1: with a ring that she thought that was bigger than hers.
- 38:25Speaker 1: So you know, we used to laugh about that. So
- 38:29Speaker 1: if if she knew I was gonna have a ring
- 38:31Speaker 1: that was bigger, she would bringing she would wear I
- 38:32Speaker 1: think the ring so but it was she couldn't outdo her,
- 38:36Speaker 1: period said. So I was like, I'm gonna miss that man.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Just she's just an awesome woman. She asked me to
- 38:42Speaker 1: do a record for her, and so the guys that
- 38:44Speaker 1: I had working on the record sounded like, um, what
- 38:48Speaker 1: was that movie? Uh, Sparkle? It sounded like Sparkle because
- 38:52Speaker 1: I was just so upset, and I didn't send a
- 38:54Speaker 1: record because you know, searching for a record for for
- 38:56Speaker 1: a record for her. It's just like she had done
- 38:59Speaker 1: every kind of soil, every kind of vibe, every kind
- 39:01Speaker 1: of flavor that's known to her vocals. It's just whatever
- 39:05Speaker 1: you came up with it, it's gonna sound like something
- 39:07Speaker 1: she had already had not already done before, and so
- 39:10Speaker 1: I just couldn't come up with it. I was you know. Anyway, Man,
- 39:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna miss her a lot. I'm gonna miss her
- 39:15Speaker 1: coming to the shows. You know. She always would pop
- 39:18Speaker 1: up every time I'm in Detroit. She would always um
- 39:22Speaker 1: come to the shows. Man. I love you, Read the Franklin.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna truly, truly miss you, and God bless the family.
- 39:31Speaker 1: I love y'all. I love you, Steve Read the Franklin's
- 39:33Speaker 1: funeral service is today, and we'll be graced by the
- 39:37Speaker 1: voices of Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Ronald Easley, Shaka Khan,
- 39:42Speaker 1: Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia Barrino, Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, the Clark's Sisters,
- 39:50Speaker 1: Jennifer Holiday, Tasha Cobbs, Leonard, Marvin Sapp, the Williams Brothers,
- 39:57Speaker 1: Vanessa Bell, Armstrong, Audrey du Bois, Harris, Alice McAlister, Tillman,
- 40:04Speaker 1: Edward Franklin, Aretha Franklin Orchestra, Aretha Franklin Celebration Choir. All
- 40:12Speaker 1: morning long, we are saluting the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
- 40:17Speaker 1: We'll be back at thirty four after the hour. You're
- 40:20Speaker 1: listening to Harvey Morning Show. Hey, Today on the Steve
- 40:24Speaker 1: Harvey Morning Show, we're gonna honor the life, the legacy
- 40:27Speaker 1: and the music of my friends one and on the
- 40:30Speaker 1: Queen of Soul. Hey, listen, everybody on the phone. We've
- 40:33Speaker 1: got singer song right in on b Superstar Maxwell. Maxwell,
- 40:37Speaker 1: give me your thoughts on the Queen and what she
- 40:40Speaker 1: meant to you, Basty, Good morning. It's a tragic loss.
- 40:44Speaker 1: One of the eight Winners of the World, which her
- 40:46Speaker 1: voice is um. Former President Obama stated in his message
- 40:50Speaker 1: about her, I've been following her for a while. I
- 40:56Speaker 1: got to meet her at the Borgata. She came to
- 41:00Speaker 1: see me perform. Almost lost my mind. I couldn't believe
- 41:04Speaker 1: that in the audience and she was she was like
- 41:06Speaker 1: four rows. And I actually said in the audience, I
- 41:11Speaker 1: mean I want to get really ex rated, guys, but
- 41:14Speaker 1: you know, miss Franklin to the audience and she was like,
- 41:16Speaker 1: go ahead, so do what you have to do. She
- 41:20Speaker 1: was like going ahead, you know. She her hands were
- 41:23Speaker 1: up and she was like the thing, say what you want,
- 41:26Speaker 1: you know, and we got a chance to talk backstage,
- 41:30Speaker 1: we took photos. She was like, baby, your eyes are tired,
- 41:33Speaker 1: are you okay? And I mean it's just for me.
- 41:36Speaker 1: It was the beginning of a friendship and a connection
- 41:40Speaker 1: that I never thought would ever come my way. I mean,
- 41:43Speaker 1: I don't know. I've been listening to her because I
- 41:46Speaker 1: was born. I know pretty much every song. So it
- 41:49Speaker 1: three days ago when everyone got news about you know
- 41:53Speaker 1: that she was. She was kind of in a critical state.
- 41:57Speaker 1: You know. All I did was player records over and
- 41:59Speaker 1: over again, prayer for every meal. She was always there,
- 42:04Speaker 1: um and you know, to wake up today. It's crazy
- 42:10Speaker 1: because I really I actually have her phone number frame
- 42:14Speaker 1: when she gave it to me, you know, she wrote
- 42:16Speaker 1: re Re which was definitely was her nickname, and it hanging.
- 42:20Speaker 1: But the first black and white photo I've ever gotten,
- 42:23Speaker 1: I was gifted by my manager and best friend. John D.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Was the grandson of John D. Hammond, who signed her
- 42:29Speaker 1: to Columbia and also signed Billie Holiday. So that's like
- 42:33Speaker 1: the first piece of art I've ever had, photographic that's
- 42:36Speaker 1: on and frame. Everything is in the studio And when
- 42:40Speaker 1: I got the news, I walked in and up looking
- 42:42Speaker 1: at that photo. Right next to that photo was her
- 42:46Speaker 1: signature and her phone number, you know, and it was
- 42:48Speaker 1: like written on an envelope. I'm hard figured it out,
- 42:52Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like this is like precious
- 42:55Speaker 1: thing and it's just you know, the last time I
- 42:57Speaker 1: saw her was I saw her last before him as
- 43:00Speaker 1: at Elton John's fiftieth anniversary for his foundation trade I
- 43:04Speaker 1: V and I watched him play the piano and sing
- 43:09Speaker 1: like there was no tomorrow. And h who would have
- 43:13Speaker 1: known that a few months later that that would be
- 43:16Speaker 1: the case. So, I mean, we all would be so
- 43:20Speaker 1: lucky to even do one fourth or one twelfth of
- 43:23Speaker 1: what she's done for for the world through her voice
- 43:26Speaker 1: and through her music. And He's great for that God
- 43:30Speaker 1: game in the opportunity to actually need her and to
- 43:33Speaker 1: celebrate her and to tell her just just what an
- 43:35Speaker 1: impact she had not only on me, but on everyone
- 43:39Speaker 1: that's her. Thank you for letting me call in today
- 43:42Speaker 1: to be part of this tribute to her. And you know,
- 43:45Speaker 1: of course you know Steve Harvey and when he's a
- 43:48Speaker 1: mass and done to keep the tradition of film music
- 43:53Speaker 1: going and the encouragement and self esteem is all people
- 43:57Speaker 1: that he always brings. It's just great to to get
- 44:00Speaker 1: a chance to not only contect with him about her
- 44:04Speaker 1: through him. You know. So thank you guys for having me,
- 44:08Speaker 1: and I'm wishing that, you know, we keep her alive.
- 44:11Speaker 1: We keep her alive due her songs, all the things
- 44:15Speaker 1: that she did to make this world so beautiful with
- 44:18Speaker 1: her music. We mess all right, Maxwell, thank you man.
- 44:22Speaker 1: We are saluting to Queen all morning long. On the
- 44:25Speaker 1: Steve Arvy Morning Show, jan I'm change everywhere along. We

- 45:42Speaker 1: will sing at the service at the Greater Grace Temple

- 48:52Speaker 1: This is my hey Today, everybody will salute the Queen
- 48:56Speaker 1: of Soul all morning long and right now on the phone,
- 48:59Speaker 1: the one and only Revernew shoting man. We lost a
- 49:02Speaker 1: really great one. Give us your thoughts, Revenew good Martin Steve.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I wanted to share with you as we all celebrate
- 49:11Speaker 1: the life of Areta Franklin. That UH a reason. Franklin
- 49:15Speaker 1: was not only the ultimate UH singer and vocalist of
- 49:21Speaker 1: all times, she was a real civil rights activist. She
- 49:26Speaker 1: used to tell me about how her father, Reverend Cel Franklin,
- 49:30Speaker 1: was the partners with Dr King and Martin Luther King
- 49:34Speaker 1: Marks in Detroit and first did I have a dream
- 49:37Speaker 1: speech in Detroit in Junior nineteen sixty three before going
- 49:42Speaker 1: to Washington doing it at the nineteen sixty three March
- 49:46Speaker 1: on Washington, and she telled me ramal and sixty seven
- 49:50Speaker 1: Dr Team. Last year he couldn't make payroll a lot
- 49:54Speaker 1: because a lot of donors had stopped giving money to
- 49:57Speaker 1: his organization because he had come out of gainst the
- 50:00Speaker 1: war Vietnam. And I went on the road and did
- 50:03Speaker 1: eleven cities with Harry Bella Frante to raise money to
- 50:07Speaker 1: cover Dr King's payroll when I was a young aunt,
- 50:10Speaker 1: and then from there all the way through her career.
- 50:14Speaker 1: He was the Freemandela movement. Stevie wanted to give him
- 50:17Speaker 1: the Dr King Holiday. She would always meant a present.
- 50:21Speaker 1: And then when I started becoming known, she knew me
- 50:25Speaker 1: when I was a boy preacher. She was about thirteen
- 50:28Speaker 1: fourteen years old of me, but her father's come preach
- 50:30Speaker 1: at the church. So as I grew she said, you know,
- 50:33Speaker 1: I know who you are and I'm gonna help you.
- 50:35Speaker 1: And she would she come to my event. She would
- 50:39Speaker 1: send us checks. I remember one time she uh sent
- 50:42Speaker 1: me a check to Nashanks Network and I saw a
- 50:45Speaker 1: few months later, I said, you know, miss Franklin, I
- 50:48Speaker 1: was so taken aback. Then you're sending the check out
- 50:51Speaker 1: framed it. She's a boy. You better put there in
- 50:53Speaker 1: the bank for I move all the money at that account.
- 50:56Speaker 1: She said, you have he a copy of the check
- 50:58Speaker 1: frame the copy I mean. She was like that. But
- 51:01Speaker 1: her legacy was that she never was disconnected from her community.
- 51:07Speaker 1: She was never one that lost her authenticity. No starting
- 51:12Speaker 1: made her too big for her not to stay grounded.
- 51:17Speaker 1: You could be the tallest tree in the music forest
- 51:20Speaker 1: as long as you were connected to your roots, that
- 51:23Speaker 1: besides your height. And I learned that from her. She'd
- 51:27Speaker 1: liked the cook. She laughed and talked. I would always
- 51:30Speaker 1: go to a birthday part. She was all the way
- 51:33Speaker 1: real and regal at the same time. She was real
- 51:38Speaker 1: and she was regal, and she appreciated people that never
- 51:42Speaker 1: forgot their roots and would take a stand when she
- 51:46Speaker 1: has Sel Franklin's daughter took a stand and started singing
- 51:50Speaker 1: R and B. Some of the critipos criticized then in
- 51:53Speaker 1: the Rhythm and Blues where they criticized because she'd always
- 51:56Speaker 1: put a Gopfel song in her show. She never uh
- 52:02Speaker 1: in any way waver. She had this internal strength that
- 52:06Speaker 1: she would do things because she felt it was right.
- 52:09Speaker 1: So we've lost the greatest female vocals of all time,
- 52:14Speaker 1: but also a great freedom fighter. And I've lost a
- 52:17Speaker 1: dear friend. The world will never have another Aretha Franklin.
- 52:22Speaker 1: And I know she stood for what's right. And let
- 52:25Speaker 1: me say that, Steve, there's a lot of that in you.
- 52:29Speaker 1: That's why I wanted to call you this morning, because
- 52:32Speaker 1: sometimes you gotta have people that are standing for something
- 52:35Speaker 1: rather than fall for anything. I thank you God, bless
- 52:39Speaker 1: your Queen, the soul and the entire Franklin family. Since
- 52:43Speaker 1: festival I'm hosting, and I brought my mamaca. My mama,
- 52:46Speaker 1: No Mrretha Franklin gonna be there, So I'll go ahead
- 52:49Speaker 1: and say, ladies and gentlemen, Mr readA Franklin, don't see Mr.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Rereada Franklin at all. Five minutes ago by my mama
- 52:56Speaker 1: saying she ain't got the money yet, baby, huh, she
- 53:00Speaker 1: you got the money, will come out there without the money.
- 53:01Speaker 1: I said, what are you doing? Mr? Read Frankler came
- 53:04Speaker 1: out there with this gigantic purse with her money and
- 53:06Speaker 1: set it on that stool and started slaying. And I said, wow, yes,
- 53:13Speaker 1: you know, the old school, old school artists are still
- 53:16Speaker 1: that way. Look we're celebrating the life of the Queen
- 53:18Speaker 1: of Soul. I just remember um one time when I
- 53:21Speaker 1: met her. I was working at w g C I
- 53:23Speaker 1: in Chicago. Yes, and she she She gave a concert
- 53:27Speaker 1: and the radio radio station hosted the concert, and afterwards
- 53:31Speaker 1: we got a chance to go up and meet Aretha Franklin.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Oh my god, you had to walk up these stairs.
- 53:40Speaker 1: You had to wait. You talk about waiting in line
- 53:42Speaker 1: here at the Gucci store, Steve off the air, you
- 53:45Speaker 1: talked about that, but we I didn't care about. I
- 53:47Speaker 1: didn't care how long the line was to wait to
- 53:50Speaker 1: see Aretha and when when when it finally came to
- 53:53Speaker 1: be my turn, they opened the door. I took a
- 53:56Speaker 1: deep breath and there she was sitting there like the
- 53:59Speaker 1: queen that she is. And it was really like meeting
- 54:03Speaker 1: the Queen. I mean really, I felt I did everything,

- 1:19:37Speaker 1: We all know a Wreatha. Franklin grew up in the church.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: When you say grew up in the church, gospel singer,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: it's my sister right here. You're Landa Adams. Landa is
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: checking in. Good morning. You're Landa Hey, brother Steve. I
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: am overwhelmed, number one. Um. I've been trying to find
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: the words to describe how I feel right now, knowing
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: that at we won't have the beautiful Miss Areta Franklin
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: with us any longer. To me, she was a great mentor.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: She taught me so many things about the business, what
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: to do, what not to do, and she was one
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: of the most giving women I know. You know, she
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: always would send flowers just on g P. You know
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: I told somebody that already. You know, you get home
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: from a trip or whatever, and you see these beautiful flowers,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: and you know it has to be from one of
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: two people, Tyler Perry or Area Franklin. And you know
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: she was just to me, to just the epitome of
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: a queen. And that is why she's called the Queen
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: of soul. And I know you have a whole lot
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: more people to talk to, but she embodied the excellence
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: of combining all music genres. She could sing gospell, she
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: could sing R and B, she could sing pop, she
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: can sing opera, country and Western, you name it, she
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: could do it. And so we're really gonna miss her.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I loved her so much, still love her. We've been
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: praying for the family, been in touch with the family,
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: and uh it's pretty hard on them right now. So
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: keep them in your prayers. Okay, I love you all
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: so much. We got more of the Queen of Soul
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: tribute on to Steve Harvey Morning Show. You're listening to
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: Steve Harvey Show. Well today, people, our hearts are heavy
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: as we lost the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. Funeral
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: service is today and will be graced by the voices
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: of Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Ronald Easley, Shaka Khan, Jennifer Hudson,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: Fantasia Barrino, Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, the Clark's Sisters, Jennifer Holiday,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Tasha Cobb's, Leonard, Marvin Sapp, the Williams Brothers, Vanessa Bell, Armstrong,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Audrey Dubois, Harris, Alice McAlister, Tillman, Edward Franklin Aretha Franklin Orchestra,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: Aretha Franklin Celebration Choir. Miss Franklin, of course, was born
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: in Memphis, Tennessee, back in nineteen two. She began singing
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: in church before recording her first gospel album at the
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: age of just fourteen years. Yeah. After ten modestly successful albums,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: she shifted to R and B and became the Queen
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: of Soul. Yes, she was the first female solo artist
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: that was ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: of Fame. She performed, Yes, she performed at the presidential
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: inaugurations of Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and of course Barack Obama.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: That hat, Yes that You'll never forget that. That remember
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: when Ellen wore the hat on her show the following day.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: That was funny. Yes, Uh, Mrs Areta was married and
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: divorced twice. She was survived by four sons. And all
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: morning long, we're going to play Aretha Glynn songs. And
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: boy did she have some hits, man, Steve, she had
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: some hits. I mean she she truly earned her title
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: and wore her title as the queen. Well her voice
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: don't yeah greatest, I agree, because she can sing anything anything, gospel, country, rock,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: soul of course goes on and on. Yes, all right,
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: we're gonna right now. Just let's hit it girl. You know,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: let me tell of Carlo Carlo's favorite song. Put this
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: song on right here, and Carla Ferrell loses her mind.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: Rock steady baby, that's called exactly what it is? Who
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: sings lyrics like that? Genius the queen baby Roster, Yes,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: beast my lake who shot a baby? Just what I feel?
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: That's as I can't want. Let's move you from stop side.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: Let the stop and take her off by moving lust
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: rob Saturday. Let's call this song exact one feeling in
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: my last night? What is im sha come setting rushing,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: come sent me? When the people from side side just
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: slip down in your car and take right light. Staid
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: it right, steady, Let's saw the song a sacker. It's
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: a fucking load. I'm reeling from it. Iss about did
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: I started shady blue rising? Shocking about left hut in
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: about sucking sha siscoing thing in the same cross hey
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: checking in Right now? We got R and B singer
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: my boy Anthony Hamilt to Anthony, we've been talking about
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: the Queen of soul. All morning long. Give me some
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: of your thoughts. Man, Good morning, Steve. Yeah, man, um
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: Aretha was a big influence on my music. H just
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: her delivery and the passion she had. I remember one
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: time I was supposed to have done a tribute to her,
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: singing her song, and she requested that not only I sing,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: but that I sing my own music. She wanted me
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: to sing Charlene and Can't Let Go, and I was like, wow, here,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: it is a tribute for her, but she understands the
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: importance of an artists being an artists and delivering their
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: own songs. So it was really touching to know that
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: she wanted that. And uh, you know, back when I
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: was like really young, about seven and eight, I'm so
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: used to hearing just gospel, and you know, my family
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: was playing this music that felt like gospel. But I
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: heard the lyrics You make me feel like a natural woman,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: and I was blown away. I was just like, how
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: could it not be godful if it makes me feel
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: like that? And from then on, I was just really
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: drawn to learn more, to feel more, and they experience
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: more of that sound and a Wretha had it consistently.
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: It's a big miss, but that can see a live
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: on through my kids. You know, I'll play her and
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: just her legacy, the legendary Aretha Franklin will always be around.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: We got more of the Queen of Soul tribute on
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: the Steve Harvey Morning Show. You're listening to Steve Harvey
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: Show today. We are paying tribute to the Queen, the
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: Queen of Soul. All right, Steve. As you know, a
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: lot of stars, celebrities and singers love and of course
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: respect the Queen of Soul. We're gonna go to the phones.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you tell us what the Queen of
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: Soul meant to you or your favorite read the Franklin
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: song Memory Anything call us eight seven seven twenty nine,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Steve eight seven seven twenty nine, Steve, all right, y'all, Uh,
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: here we go? Hey, who is this? Hey? Steve Tyler,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: Perry here man. I wish I was calling on a
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: better occasion, but you know, just celebrating Areta. I gotta
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: tell you, I was at one of the last performances
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: that she did at the Kennedy Center Islands. I was
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: there honoring Rita Franklin. I was sitting up in the
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: balcony with Barack Obama and Michelle, and he turned to
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: me and he after she finishing Natural Woman and bringing
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: the house down, he turned to me and said, that's
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: why she's the Queen of soul. And I never forgot
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: that and the reason she's the Queen of souls because
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: not only she had this incredible voice, but she knows
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: that she knew how to use it. She knew how
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: to use it to make us feel good, to let
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: me have us make babies, to take us the church.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I mean, she sung us through assassinations and celebrations. So
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: Areta is going to be missed, man. And I posted
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: this thing yesterday. Uh, the Prince, the Princess, the King,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: and the Queen, Prince, Whitney, Michael, and Areta all gone.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: So I don't know where music is headed now, man,
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: but but I'm glad they left us with such incredible
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: direction and such an incredible blueprint on what and how
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: to do. And I'm just hoping that more singers take
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: a listen to these legends and bring us to that
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: kind of music, because that's what we missed. So God
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: bless her in her family. I want to thank her
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: for being a close friend to me and just every
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: time she saw me. She loved talking. We love talking.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: She loved talking about the halves and half nots, and
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: how much she loved she loved Medea and just I
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: mean it was just really really great. And I got
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: a chance to talk to her, you know, when I
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: found out she was ill, and they had her in
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: good spirits, laughing and so and so forth. So my
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: prayers are with her. God bless you, God, bless you.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: See for what you're doing today, what you hoole? Just
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: little bit ms up, just a little bit. I ain't
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: gonna do whe Where are you gonna, ain't gonna do wrong?
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Oh I ask you why spook? Just a little bit lame,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: just a little bit whole, just a little bit, just
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: a little bit. I'm not forget it. Oh my money
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: getting turned Huney, forgive me my Promose when you're gonna
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: tell Lester, Lester, tell just a joint, just a little bay.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: Just let you kissing somewhere to me. He easy, Coming
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: up next, everybody, Detroit's O my man, Judge Gregg Mathis,
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: you're listening Stry Morning Show. Hey, Today on the Steve
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Harvey All Morning Show, We're gonna honor the life of
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: the Legacy and the music of my friend one and
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: on the Queen of Soul, and on the line we
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: got Detroit's on Judge Greg mathis, he's been my friend.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: This is my due Later the Judge and Areta used
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: to playing family vacations together, Judge get Um, give me
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: your thoughts. Yeah, I'm sad the loss of my friend
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: Aretha Franklin. I was just in communication with her. Her
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: spirits were up so much so that she wanted to
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: vacation and I knew that, you know, she could not
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: do so. And she said, let's go on another trip, Greg,
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: and I said, sure, the three And of course we know.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: But one of the things that many people did not
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: know about is that she played a significant role and
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: continues to in changing America. Um her father raised her
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: in the civil rights movement. In fact, C. L. Franklin
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: a towering figure in the civil rights movement. In fact,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: she traveled with Dr King um Ar Luther King in
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: concerts that benefited the f E. L C And the
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: Silver Ice movement. Indeed, they did a tour of eleven
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: cities to raise money. And also I was fairly to
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: work with her in Detroit and the city. We're both
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: from we've worked in the community there together for some
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: twenty years or more. And she was a great woman
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: more than just the greatest vocalists of all times, which
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: she was, but she was also dedicated to her community
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: and helped change the world with her efforts and civil
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: rights and social justice. And one of the other things
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: that I think people should know is that she was
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: very cultivated and very intelligent and aware of all current affairs.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: We sit and talk about the political affairs of the day,
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: we would disagree on many of them, uh, And I
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: found it very impressive that she kept up on many
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: of the issues very few entertainers might be informed on
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: or might seek to involve themselves. As you know, she
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: introduced one of the greatest or she brought to us
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: one of the greatest performances of any White House inauguration.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: And we've been blessed and will continue to be blessed
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: for years and with that performance and with the symbolism
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: that goes along with that. And she was just a
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: great woman, the greatest vocalists of all times, and a
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: great humanitarian who helped change America. Detroit and the rest
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: of the country. All morning long, we are saluting the
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Queen of soul, Aretha Franklin A Speed and everybody. This
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: is Lonnie Love. Y'all know I'm from Detroit, and you
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: know Aretha Franklin. She was our queen. I know she
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: was everybody's queen, but when it came to the city
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: of Detroit, Aretha was Detroit. Um. I remember my mom's
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: and everybody listening to her. She was always active in
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: the church and her dad's church. We would go to
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: her dad her would hear her seeing and she was
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: just a joy. Um. Even though she's gone, we still
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: have her music, especially her gospel music. And that's the
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: influence that I will always have. That's the vision of
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: her that I will always have. And I just want
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: to say I love you, Aresa. Thank you so much
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: for representing Detroit. You made us wow. Thanks guys. All right,
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: coming up our last break of the day, we're gonna
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: close out the show. You're listening to the Steve Well Steve,
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: We've called upon the world and the Steve Harvey Nation.
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: And now we have a special guest. She is Detroit
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: and Philly radio legend, Miss Frankie Darcel. Good Morning, Steve,
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Carla Shirley, Temmy good morning Jr. Um Like, Steve, Wow,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: we were just talking about Aresa the other day and
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: and you know I found it interesting. You crossed my
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: mind when you said the other day that God's will
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: will be done. What a legacy we're all gonna make
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: our transition, Steve. You know, we've got a birthdate and
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: a death date and in that middle there there is
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: that dash. What a life to rehash of Aretha Franklin.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: You know, she could have lived anywhere on the globe,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: and she chose to continue to live here in the
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: city of Detroit. And of course our hearts are heavy.
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: We pray for her family, um. And nothing like losing
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: a parent and to lose you know, your mom, So
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: we pray for her children, uh and her family and
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: extended family. She is the queen of soul. But Steve,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: you know I would share with you as well that
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: not only was she the queen of soul, but the
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: work that her father C. L. Franklin did on behalf
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: of not only the citizens of the City of truth Detroit,
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: but around the world and working with Dr King and others,
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: she too was a part of that civil rights movement.
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: Now that we think about her life to rehash we
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: think about who a Wretha Franklin really was not only
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: the queen of soul. And I said the other day, Um,
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: she's the Queen of soul to the world, but she's
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: also family, um to us. You know, she will be missed,
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: but she has left just a huge example of what
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: our young artists should be, how they could tap into
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: her greatness um and of course her her her legacy
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: that she leaves uh here in the city of Detroit.
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: And you know what, Steve, thank you as well. Everybody's
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: talking about her passing, but just the way that you're doing, um,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: what you're doing and celebrating her life, her loves and
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: her legacy. So you know, on behalf of the city.
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: You know, we just thank you for telling the world
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: what they already knew, but reminding them this morning. Aretha
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: Franklin's funeral service is today. The Franklin family announced that
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: nineteen artists will sing at the service at the Greater
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: Grace Temple in Detroit and will be graced by the
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: voices of Stevie Wonder, Faith Hill, Ronald Easley, Shaka Khan,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, You're Linda Adams, Shirley Caesar, the Clark's Sisters,

- 1:39:12Speaker 1: Vanessa Bell, Armstrong, Audrey Dubois, Harris, Alice McAlister, Tillman, Edwin,
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: Edward Franklin, Aretha Franklin Orchestra, and the Aretha Franklin Celebration
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: Choir r I P. Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, this
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: is a farewell. Missy Elliott says something really smart she
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: was after she sent her prayers up. She said, refer
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: back to my text, and Missy Elliot had text that
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: we've got to take time out to honor these legends
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: while they live in So to the Queen of Soul,
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: who was such a fan of mine and I fan
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: of hers, and you know we've talked many times. And
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: in case you're young and millennial, I don't care, I
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: don't care who you are. You should know who would
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: reread the frankiship. So just let me help you understand.
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: Treasure see a national treasure. She is the Queen of Soul,
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: just like James Brown was the Godfather of Soul. Mr
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: Queen of Soul. But do you understand that if it
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: was no Aretha Franklin, there would be no Mary J. Blinde,
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: that there would be no Anita Baker, that there would
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: be no Quitney. Do you know that there would be
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: no error Kaba dude? There would be no Jill Scott,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: that would be no Vivian Green, that would be no Beyonce,
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: that would be no Layla half Away. There would be
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: no Yalanda Adams. That would not be no Kimbarel, that
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: would be no Shaka Khan. I can go down the list.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: That would no emotions, I'm telling you, and all these
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: girls I'm naming to you can't say. And you know
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: where they got it from from the Queen of soul.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: Her daddy was all that up in Detroit. Now listen
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: to me. There are other icons in this world still living.
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: Patti LaBelle, Still Hill, Gladys Night, steal Hill. But do
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: you understand, Dana Ross. Let let me let me, let
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: me just get you to understand what we're really talking about.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: We're just talking about sheer greatness at the rawest level.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: Take all the technology out, and all these people I
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: just named, you can still flat out saying now if
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: your name ain't on this list, I just forgot. There
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: are some names I probably forgotten. You know, some some
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: great female vocals out there, Shot Days and and Dog,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Oh Lord, have Merci, you know, Faith Evans. You know
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: it's it's some girls out here that I left off
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: the list. And it wasn't to show you in disrespect
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: at all. I'm just telling you Fantasia can give her
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: career to reform. But I'll tell you what Fantasier tell
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: you that because they got it. See Eric got it,
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: they got it. Janet Jackson would not exist without Aretha Franklin.
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: I just saw Beyonce live and Beyonce right now the
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: greatest living female artists in terms of showmanship and singing
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: the whole package. I've never seen a more talented person
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: than Beyonce. Now, when you started talking about singing, hold on, now,
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: we got to get on. I was gonna start top
